Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry (ESPI) has been recently developed and widely used because it has the advantage of being able to measure surface deformations of engineering components and materials in industrial areas without contact. The speckle patterns formed with interference and scattering phenomena can measure not only the out-of-plane but also the in-plane deformations. Digital image equipment processes the information included in the speckle patterns and displays the consequent interferogram on a computer monitor. In this study, the experimental results of a canti-levered plate using ESPI were compared with those obtained from the simple beam theory. The ESPI results of the canti-levered plate, analyzed by 4-step phase shifting method, are close to the theoretical expectation. Similarly, out-of-plane displacements of a spot welded canti-levered plate were also measured by ESPI with 4-step phase shifting technique. The phase map of the spot welded canti-levered plate is quite different from that of the canti-levered plate without spot welding.

Phase-shifting method using Fourier transform (PSM/FT) has been applied to measurement of in-plane displacement of a specimen. Thirty-two interference fringe patterns each of which has different phase of ${\pi}/16$ radian have been gathered from a specimen with in-plane displacement. Low-pass filtering by 2-D Fourier transform is used to suppress spatial noise of the fringe patterns. ${\alpha}-directional$ Fourier transform for PSM/FT is performed by use of the low-pass filtered 32 fringe patterns. Two kinds of specimens are used for experiment. One is a rectangular steel plate and the other one is a rectangular steel plate containing a circular hole at the center. In-plane displacement of each specimen is measured by PSM/FT, and calculated by finite element method (ANSYS) for comparison. The results are quite comparable, so that PSM/FT can be applied to measurement of in-plane displacement.
In-plane ESPI(Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry) was devised to measure in-plane deformations and rotation of a specimen with laser in this study. ESPI is a optical measuring method to be able to measure the deformations of engineering components and materials in industrial fields. The conventional measuring methods of surface deformations such as the strain gauge have many demerits because they are contact and point-to-point measuring ones. But that ESPI is noncontact, nondestructive and whole field measuring method can overcome previous disadvantages. We used ESPI which is sensitive to in-plane displacement for measuring in-plane deformations of a disk. And the 4-frame phase shifting method was used for the quantitative analysis. First of all, the system calibration was done due to an in-plane rotation before getting deformations of a disk. Finally we showed good agreement between the experiment results and those of the FEA(Finite Element Analysis).

The present study was performed to investigate the effects of two groups of sires with 'medium' and 'high' weight gain potentials (M-sires and H-sires, respectively) on growth of their progenies on varying planes of nutrition during the growing-finishing period. The ADG of the M-sires' progeny was greater (P < 0.05) than that of the H-sires' progeny (0.51 vs. 0.47 kg) during a 26- to 29-d early grower phase beginning from 55 d of age, but the opposite was true (0.66 vs. 0.72 kg) during the latter grower phase. Overall grower-phase ADG was greatest on the high plane of nutrition (H plane) followed by the medium (M) and low (L) planes (0.65, 0.61, and 0.51 kg, respectively; P < 0.05) in the M-sires' progeny, whereas in the H-sires' progeny, ADG was greater on the H and M planes vs. L plane (0.63, 0.62, and 0.54 kg, respectively). The ADG of pigs on the M or H plane during the grower phase and switched to the H plane thereafter (M-to-H or H-to-H planes) was greater than that of pigs on the L-to-L planes (0.99 vs. 0.78 kg) during the early finisher phase in the M-sires' progeny (P < 0.01). However, in the H-sires' progeny, ADG of pigs on the L-to-L planes did not differ from that of pigs on the M-to-M or H-to-M planes (0.94 vs. 0.96 kg). Results suggest that the H-to-H or H-to-M planes and M-to-M or M-to-L planes are optimal for maximal growth of the M- and H-sires' progenies, respectively.
An analytical model has been developed to predict the elastic properties of a filled resin reinforced by chopped fibers, a three-phase composite such as a filled sheet molding compound(SMC). In the model the matrix material and fillers form an effective matrix. The effective matrix is then considered to be reinforced with long fibers lying in the sheet plane but randomly oriented in the plane. Expressions for the resulting transversely isotropic composite properties are explicitly presented. Using this model, the Young's and shear moduli are calculated for the SMC sample with filler weight fraction of 35% and fiber content of 30%. The same properties are also determined experimentally. The agreement between the calculated and measured elastic moduli is found to be very good for the in-plane properties. However, the out-of-plane properties show a large difference because the effect of voids is not taken into account in the model.

The speckle patterns to be formed with interference and scattering phenomena can measure not only out-of-plane but also in-plane deformations, together with the use of digital image equipment to process the informations included in the speckle patterns and to display consequent interferogram on a computer monitor. The phase map of the spot welded cacti-levered plate is quite different from that of the canti-levered plate without spot welding.
This research is devoted to the study of plane wave propagation in homogeneous transversely isotropic (HTI) magneto-thermoelastic rotating medium with combined effect of Hall current and two temperature due to multi-dual-phase lag heat transfer. It is analysed that, for 2-D assumed model, three types of coupled longitudinal waves (quasi-longitudinal, quasi-transverse and quasi-thermal) are present. The wave characteristics like phase velocity, specific loss, attenuation coefficients, energy ratios, penetration depths and amplitude ratios of transmitted and reflected waves are computed numerically and illustrated graphically and compared for different theories of thermoelasticity. Some particular cases are also derived from this research.
This paper looks into phase plane behavior of the solution near the positive steady-state for the system with prey density dependent response functions. The positive invariance and boundedness property of the solution to the objective model are proved. The existence result of a positive steady-state and asymptotic analysis near the positive constant equilibrium for the objective system are of interest. The results of phase plane analysis for the system are proved by observing the asymptotic properties of the solutions. Also some numerical analysis results for the behaviors of the solutions in time are provided.
This paper introduces a novel approach to multi-material topology optimization (MTO) targeting in-plane bi-directional functionally graded (IBFG) non-uniform thickness Reissner-Mindlin plates, employing an alternative active phase approach. The mathematical formulation integrates a first shear deformation theory (FSDT) to address compliance minimization as the objective function. Through an alternating active-phase algorithm in conjunction with the block Gauss-Seidel method, the study transforms a multi-phase topology optimization challenge with multi-volume fraction constraints into multiple binary phase sub-problems, each with a single volume fraction constraint. The investigation focuses on IBFG materials that incorporate adequate local bulk and shear moduli to enhance the precision of material interactions. Furthermore, the well-established mixed interpolation of tensorial components 4-node elements (MITC4) is harnessed to tackle shear-locking issues inherent in thin plate models. The study meticulously presents detailed mathematical formulations for IBFG plates in the MTO framework, underscored by numerous numerical examples demonstrating the method's efficiency and reliability.
We propose an implementation scheme for an optical encryption system with hybrid-pattern random keys. In the encryption process, a pair of random phase keys composed of a white-noise phase key and a structured phase key are positioned in the input plane and Fourier-spectrum plane respectively. The output image is recoverable by digital reconstruction, using the conjugate of the encryption key in the Fourier-spectrum plane. We discuss the system encryption performance when different combinations of phase-key pairs are used. To measure the effectiveness of the proposed method, we calculate the statistical indicators between original and encrypted images. The results are compared to those generated from a classical double random phase encoding. Computer simulations are presented to show the validity of the method.
