  • The spool displacement of directional control valve can be considered as the standard signal to measure the bandwidth frequency of a directional control valve. When the spool displacement is not available, the metering-orifice system is implemented in this research as an alternative way of measuring the 90 degrees phase bandwidth frequency of the hydraulic directional control valve. The inertia effect on the transmission line oil induces the phase lead of the valve load pressure when compared with the phase of spool displacement. The capacitance effect of the oil induces the phase lag of the valve load pressure. The phase of the load pressure can be adjusted to be the same as that of the spool displacement by controlling the opening area of the metering orifice. A series of experiments were conducted to verify the effectiveness of the metering orifice. The 90 degrees phase bandwidth frequency measured from the valve load pressure was significantly deviated in some cases from the frequency of the spool displacement. The metering orifice was hard to be applied to measure the -90 degrees phase bandwidth frequency of the high precision.

  • In this study, the 95W heavy alloys of 3/7, 5/5 and 7/3 of Ni/Fe ratio were sintered at the temperature range between 1420 and $1480^{\circ}C$ for 1h and their microstructures were discussed for an effect of the ${\mu}$-phase $(Fe_7W_6)$ on the microstructure. The ${\mu}$-phase was observed in the only 95W-1.5Ni-3.5Fe alloy of 3/7 and it is thought to be formed and grown from the surface of the W particle. The W particle was surrounded with the ${\mu}$-phase and there were only the W particles and this phase without Ni-Fe-W matrix at the most part. The ${\mu}$-phase changed the interphase structure in the alloy and the grain growth of the W was suppressed because of interrupting the solution-reprecipitation of the W. The W content in the matrix was considered to be lowered due to the interruption of the solution-reprecipitation and the formation of the ${\mu}$-phase in the .

  • In this paper, the effect of porosity on the acoustic phase velocity of the 3D printed Kelvin closed-cell structure was investigated using the spectral phase analysis. Since Kelvin cells bring about the large amount of scattering, acoustic pulses in ultrasonic measurements undergoes a distortion of waveforms due to the dispersion effect. In order to take account on the dispersion, mathematical expressions for calculating the phase velocity of longitudinal waves propagating normal to the plane of the Kelvin structure are suggested by introducing a complex wave number based on Fourier transform. 3D Kelvin structure composed of identical unit-cells, a polyhedron of 14 faces with 6 quadrilateral and 8 hexagonal faces, was developed and fabricated by 3D CAD and 3D printer to represent the micro-structure of porous materials such as aluminum foam and cancellous bone. Total nine samples of 3D Kelvin structure with different porosity were made by changing the thickness of polyhedron. Ultrasonic pulse of 1MHz center frequency was applied to the Kelvin structures for the measurement of the phase velocity of ultrasound using the TOF(time-of-flight) and the phase spectral method. From the experimental results, it was found that the acoustic phase velocity decreased linearly with the porosity.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of W substitution on the precipitation behavior of ${\chi}$ and ${\sigma}$ phases in super duplex stainless steel. The ${\chi}$ phase was precipitated at the interface of ferrite / austenite phases and inside the ferrite phase at the initial stage of aging. With an increase in the aging time, the volume fraction of the ${\chi}$ phase increased, and then decreased with the transformation from the ${\chi}$ phase to the ${\sigma}$ phase. The ${\sigma}$ phase was precipitated later than the ${\chi}$ phase, and the volume fraction of x phase increased with the increase in the aging time. The ferrite phase was decomposed into the new austenite (${\gamma}2$) and ${\sigma}$ phases by aging treatment. The decomposition of the ferrite phase into the ${\gamma}2$ and ${\sigma}$ phases was retarded by W substitution for Mo. The volume fraction of the ${\chi}$ phase increased and that of the ${\sigma}$ phase decreased due to W substitution. The ${\chi}$ and ${\sigma}$ phases were intermetallic compounds, which had lower nickel concentration, and higher chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten concentrations. The ${\chi}$ phase has higher molybdenum and tungsten concentrations than those of the ${\sigma}$ phase. The amounts of chromium and nickel in the ${\chi}$ and ${\sigma}$ phases did not change, but these phases have higher concentrations of molybdenum and tungsten due to W substitution for Mo.

  • The effect of ginseng glycosides and their aglycones on the thermodynamic characteristics of membranes from dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) was investigated. Total saponins (TS) from Korean red ginseng, Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer, interacted with the Eel Phase of lipid in the Polar region and did not penetrate the deeper glycerol backbone of lipid molecule. From the all investigated components of TS (aglycons and ginsenosides), only 20-(S)-panaxadiol (PD) had an effect similar to TS. High concentration of TS penetrated in hydrophobic Cl-C8 region. The presence of cholesterol did not influence the interaction of TS with DPPC. An elimination of transition, however, took place at 10~100 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml of TS. DPPC had a low ability to interact with cholesterol (CHL) as compared with other lecithins except ethanolamine. From our results, only TS and PD, at high concentrations (100 mol%), influenced the phase transition of mixture of DPPC:CHL.

  • This study aims a investigating the effect of volume fraction of chromium carbide phase(VFC) of hardfaced iron/chromium alloys on fracture toughness. The alloys were deposited twice on a mild steel plate using self-shielding flux cored arc welding process. In order to examine VFC effect, different VFC (0.28∼0.62) were employed by changing the Cr and C content, while the ratio of Cr/C was fixed in the range of 5.7∼6.6. Fracture toughness was constant as increasing VFC because fracture surface was developed in the eutectic phase which was growing parallel with introduced sharp notch in the hypoeutectic alloys, but fracture toughness did not decreased in spite of increasing volume fraction of coarse primary chromium carbide phase which was easily craced at the low stress because the growth direction of chromium carbide phase were more irregular as increasing VFC in the hypereutectic alloys.

  • In the present study, nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT) is developed for wave propagation of functionally graded (FG) nanoscale plate in the thermal environment by considering the porosity effect. $Si_3N_4$ as ceramic phase and SUS304 as metal phase are regarded to be constitutive material of FG nanoplate. The porosity effect is taken into account on the basis of the newly extended method which considers coupling influence between Young's modulus and mass density. The motion relation is derived by applying Hamilton's principle. NSGT is implemented in order to account for small size effect. Wave frequency and phase velocity are obtained by solving the problem via an analytical method. The effects of different parameters such as porosity coefficient, gradient index, wave number, scale factor and temperature change on phase velocity and wave frequency of FG porous nanoplate have been examined and been presented in a group of illustrations.

  • To idenifty effect of Bojungbangam-tang kakambang on Cisplatin-Induced G2/M Phase Arrest in Human Renal Proximal Tubular HK-2 Cells. Cytotoxicity of cisplatin was detected in HK-2 cells and the value of IC50 is about $25\;{\mu}M$. The treatment of cisplatin to HK-2 showed the G2/M phase cell cycle arrest. The ethanol extract of Bojungbangam-tang kakambang (EBTKB), a new herbal prescription composed of ten crude herbs, inhibited cisplatin-induced G2/M phase arrest in HK-2 cells. EBTKB increased G0/G1 peak in cisplatin-treated HK-2 cells. p53, p21 and p27 expression were increased in cisplatin-treated HK-2 cells. Inhibitory effect of EBTKB on cisplatin-induced G2/M phase arrest was accomplished through inhibition of p53, p21 and p27 expression. Also, reduced CDK2 and cyclin A expression by cisplatin were increased by EBTKB, but cyclin E was not changed. Reduction of ERK activation and increment of p38 activation by cisplatin were increased ERK activation and decreased p38 activation by EBTKB. Cisplatin had no effect on JNK activation, but EBTKB increased JNK activation. These results can suggest that EBTKB inhibits cisplatin-induced G2/M phase arrest in HK-2 cell through reduction of p53-dependent p21 and p27 protein, ERK activation and p38 inactivation.

  • Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of a low-protein diet on growth performance, carcass traits, nutrient digestibility, blood profiles, and odor emissions in growing-finishing pigs. Methods: A total of 126 crossbred pigs ([Yorkshire×Landrace]×Duroc) with an average body weight (BW) of 38.56±0.53 kg were used for a 14-week feeding trial. Experimental pigs were allotted to one of 6 treatments in 3 replicates of 7 pigs per pen in a randomized complete block design. Pigs were fed each treatment diet with different levels of crude protein (CP). Phase 1 (early growing): 14%, 15%, 16%, 17%, 18%, 19%; phase 2 (late growing): 13%, 14%, 15%, 16%, 17%, 18%; phase 3 (early finishing): 12%, 13%, 14%, 15%, 16%, 17%; phase 4 (late finishing): 11%, 12%, 13%, 14%, 15%, 16%. All experimental diets in each phase were contained the same concentration of lysine (Lys), methionine (Met), threonine (Thr), and tryptophan (Trp). Results: Over the entire experimental period, there was no significant difference in BW, average daily feed intake, and gain-to-feed ratio among all treatments (p>0.05), but a quadratic effect (p = 0.04) was observed in average daily gain (ADG) during the late finishing phase with higher ADG in Group D. Blood urea nitrogen concentration linearly increased with an increase in dietary CP levels (p<0.01). Regarding nutrient digestibility, excreted nitrogen in urine and feces and nitrogen retention linearly increased as the CP level increased (p<0.01). A linear effect was observed with increasing CP levels in amines, ammonia, and hydrogen sulfide in odor emissions (p<0.01). No significant effects were observed in the measurements of carcass traits and meat characteristics (p>0.05). Conclusion: In phase feeding, reducing the CP level to 14% in early-growing pigs, 13% in late-growing pigs, 12% in early-finishing pigs, and 11% in late-finishing pigs is recommended.
