  • Rare and unusual occurrence of hydrothermal minerals were found in Geode mine area. They are developed in the late stage of hydrothermal alteration of earlier skarns and later by the open-space filling crystallization. The alteration of earlier skarns of clinopyroxene, garnet, and plagioclase formed mainly chlorite or sometimes uncommon hydrothermal minerals of prehnite, illite, and pumpellyite. Open-space filling crystallization characterized by hydrothermal minerals developedin open sapce or good are prehnite, pumpellyite, clinozoisite, illite, and Ca-zeolites of stilbite annstellerite. Mineral phases and paragenesis are examined in detail by microscopy, XRD, SEM, and EPMA. Using the Schreinemaker's method, equibrium reactions among these minerals are establishedand isothemal-isobaric phase diagrams of $\mu$$H_2O$-$\mu$$CO_2$cot are plotted. Hydrothermal minerals such asprehnite, pumpellyite, clinozoisite, illite, and some chlorite were ffrmed under high partial pressure of $CO_2$with relatively low $H_2$O fugacity. Later, stilbite and calcite in association with illite crystallized under relatively both high partial Pressure of $CO_2$and high $H_2$O fugacity.

  • The Yeonhwa (I, II) and Keodo mines, neighboring in the middle part of the Taebaegsan mineral belt, contain three distinct classes of skarn deposits: the zinc-lead skarn at Yeonhwa (I, II), the iron skarn at Keodo south (Jangsan orebodies), and the copper skarn at Keodo north (78 orebodies). The present study characterizes the three classes of skarn deposits mainly in terms of skarn/ore associations examined from chemical compositional point of view, and applies existing quantitative phase diagrams to some pertinent mineral assemblages in these mines. At Yeonhwa I the Wolam I orebody shows a vertical variation in skarn minerals ranging from clinopyroxene/garnet zone on the lower levels through clinopyroxene (without garnet) zone on the intermediate levels, and finally to rhodochrosite veins on the upper levels and surface. Ore minerals, sphalerite and galena, associate most closely with the intermediate clinopyroxene zone. At Keodo, the Jangsan iron skarn hosted in quartz monzodiolite as a typical endoskarn, shows a skarn zoning, from center of orebody to outer side, magnetite zone, magnetite/garnet zone, garnet clinopyroxene zone, and clinopyroxene/epidote/plagioclase zone. The 78 copper skarn in the Hwajeol limestone indicates a zoning, from quartz porphyry side toward limestone side, orthoclase/epidote zone, epidote/clinopyroxene zone, and clinopyroxene/garnet zone; chalcopyrite and other copper sulfides tend to be in clinopyroxene/garnet zone. Mioroprobe analyses of clinopyroxenes and garnets from the various skarn zones mentioned above revealed that the Yeonhwa zinc/lead skarns are characterized by johansenitic clinopyroxene (Hd 25-78, Jo 15-23) and manganoan andraditic garnet (Ad 13-97, Sp 1-24), whereas the Jangsan iron skarn at Keodo by Mn-poor diopsidic clinopyroxene (Di 78-93, Jo 0.2-1.0) and Mn-poor grossularitic grandite (Gr 65-77, Sp 0.5-1.0). The 78 copper skarn at Keodo is characterized by Mn-poor diopsidic-salite (Di 66-91, Jo 0.2-1.1) and Mn-poor andraditic grandite(Ad 40-74, Sp 0.5-1.1). The compositional charateristics of iron, copper, and zinc-lead skarns in the Yeonhwa-Keodo mines are in good correlations with those of the foreign counterparts. Compiling a $T-XCO_2$ phase diagram for the Jangsan endoskarns, a potential upper limit of temperature of the main stage of skarn formation is estimated to be about $530^{\circ}C$, and a lower limit to be $400^{\circ}C$ or below assuming $XCO_2=0.05$ at P total=1kb. Applying a published log $fS_2$-log $fo_2$ diagram to the Keodo 78 and Yeonhwa exoskarns, it is revealed that copper sulfides and zinc-lead sulfides do not co-exist stably below log $fS_2=-4$ and log $fO_2=-23$ at $T=400^{\circ}C$ and ${\times}CO=1$ atm.

  • Miscibility of poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) blends with poly(vinyl acetate-co-vinyl alcohol) (VAc-VAL copolymers) was investigated as a function of comonomer composition of VAc-VAL copolymers. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermo-optical microscopic (TOM) analysis confirmed that P4VP is miscible with VAc-VAL copolymers containing more than 30 mole% VAL. Fourier transform inflated (FT-IR) spectroscopic analysis revealed that the strong intermolecular hydrongen bonding interaction between the vinylpyridine and VAL hydroxyl group was formed. Theoretical phase diagram was constructed by the calculation using the Association model, a thermodynamic model for hydrogen-bonded polymer blend systems developed by Coleman et al. The calculated theoretical binodal phase diagrams were in good agreement with the experimentally determined cloud point curves.

  • InN nanograins were directly grown on $0.3^{\circ}$-miscut (toward M-plane) c-plane sapphire substrates by hydride vapor phase epitaxy (HVPE) and their growth characteristics were investigated by utilizing x-ray scattering. Depending on the various growth parameters, the formation of InN was sensitively influenced. Six samples were grown by changing HCl flow rate, the substrate temperature and Ga/In source zone temperature. All the samples were grown on unintentionally $NH_3-pretreated$ sapphire substrates. By increasing the flow rate of HCl from 10 sccm to 20 sccm, the formation of GaN grains with different orientations was observed. On the other hand, when the substrate temperature was raised from $680^{\circ}C$ to $760^{\circ}C$, the increased substrate temperature dramatically suppressed the formation of InN. A similar behavior was observed for the samples grown with different source zone temperatures. By decreasing the source zone temperature from $460^{\circ}C$ to $420^{\circ}C$, a similar behavior was observed.

  • As the integration of circuit components increases steadily, various EMS(Electromagnetic Susceptibility) problems have emerged from integrated circuits and electrical systems. The electromagnetic susceptibility of VCOs(Voltage Controlled Oscillator) is especially critical in RF systems. Therefore, in this paper, through the phase noise theory that models electrical oscillators as linear time variant systems, the EMS characteristics of representative VCO -ring VCO and LC VCO- with 1.2 GHz of reference oscillating frequency are analyzed under the existence of the electromagnetic noise coupled in power supply. An simulation algorithm is developed to extract impulse response function based on the phase noise theory. When there is no supply noise, the magnitude of the jitter of two oscillators were similar to around 2.1 ps, but in presence of supply noise, the jitter was significantly lower in LC VCOs than ring VCOs.

  • The substitution of cooling method from water quenching to air cooling after solution heat treatment was aimed for the development of a convenient and economical heat treatment process of duplex stainless steels without deterioration of mechanical and corrosion resistant properties for the industry. In order to achieve this goal, the mechanical properties and corrosion properties of a ASTM A890-4A duplex stainless steel were systematically investigated as functions of casting condition and cooling method after solution heat treatment. A 3-stepped sand mold and a permanent Y-block mold were used to check the effects of solidification structure and cooling rate after solution heat treatment. The microstructural characteristics such as the ferrite/austenite phase ratio and the precipitation behavior of ${\sigma}$ phase and carbides were investigated by combined analysis of OM and SEM-EDX with an aid of TTT diagram. Hardness and tension test were performed to evaluate the mechanical properties. Impact property at $-40^{\circ}C$ and corrosion resistance were also examined to check the possibility of the industrial application of this basic study. Throughout this investigation, air-cooling method was proved to effectively substitute for water-quenching process after the solution heat treatment, when the duplex stainless steel was sand mold cast with a thickness below 15 mm or permanent mold cast with a thickness below 20 mm.

  • Generally, combustion instability is generated by the mutual coupling between the heat release and the acoustic pressure in the combustor. On the occasion, the acoustic pressure generates the oscillation of the mass flow rate of propellant injected from injector, and this oscillation again affects combustion in the combustor. So, the dynamic characteristics of the injector have been studied to control combustion instability using injector itself in Russia from 1970's. In order to study injector dynamics, a mechanical pulsator for forced pressure pulsation is produced and the method to quantify the mass flow rate of the propellant that is oscillating at the exit of the injector is developed. With the pulsator and the method, pulsating values of the mass flow rate, pressure, liquid film thickness, and axial velocity generated at the exit of the simplex swirl injector are measured in real time. And phase-amplitude characteristics of each parameter are analyzed using these pulsating values acquired at the exit of the simplex swirl injector.

  • Soil internal erosion is a phenomenon in which fines attached to the solid skeleton are detached by fluid flow, and this continuous fine migration weakens the hydro-mechanical characteristics of the ground structure. This paper proposed governing equations for fine migration in pore spaces and its related scheme for the numerical analysis. Phase diagram for fine particles includes three different states: detached fines in the liquid phase ($c_e$), attached fines in the solid phase (${\sigma}_a$), and pore-clogged fines in the solid phase (${\sigma}_s$). Numerical formulations for finite element method are developed based on the hydraulic governing equations of pore fluid and fine migration. This study proposed a method of estimating model parameters for fine detachment, attachment, and clogging from 1D erosion experiments. And it proposed an analytical formula for hydraulic permeability function considering fine clogging. Numerical analysis of the previous erosion test developed the numerical scheme and verified the adequacy of fine migration models.

  • Morphotropic phase boundary (MPB), which is a special boundary that separates two or multiple different phases in the phase diagram of some ferroelectric ceramics, is an important concept in identifying physics that includes piezoelectric responses. MPB, which had not been discovered in organic materials until recently, was discovered in poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-trifluoroethylene (P(VDF-TrFE)), resulting from a molecular approach. The piezoelectric coefficient of P(VDF-TrFE) in this MPB region was achieved up to -63.5 pC N-1, which is about two times as large as the conventional value of -30 pC N-1 of P(VDF-TrFE). An order-disorder arrangement greatly affects the rise of the piezoelectric effect and the ferroelectric, paraelectric and relaxor ferroelectric of P(VDF-TrFE), so the arrangement and shape of the polymer chain is important. In this review, we investigate the origin of negative longitudinal piezoelectric coefficients of piezoelectric polymers, which is definitely opposite to those of common piezoelectric ceramics. In addition to the mainly discussed issue about MPB behaviors of ferroelectric polymers, we also introduce the consideration about polymer chirality resulting in relaxor ferroelectric properties. When the physics of ferroelectric polymers is unveiled, we can improve the piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties of ferroelectric polymers and contribute to the development of next-generation sensor, energy, transducer and actuator applications.

  • The $Bi_2Sr_2Ca_{n-1}Cu_nOy$(BSCCO) phase is well known to be a superconductor having a strong anisotropic behavior. It can be seen that it is difficult to control the growth direction. In this study, we try to grow a Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O phase crystal by the crystal pulling method with a seed crystal and crucibel rotation. Relatively large crystals of the order of $5{\times}5{\times}5{\textrm}{mm}^3$ dimensions can be obtained. We also discuss the possible crystallization field of the $BiO_{1.5}$-(Sr, Ca)O-CuO ternary phase diagram, and present some results of the characterization and magnetic measurements on the grown crystal.
