Microstructure and Tensile Properties of Tungsten Heavy Alloys

  • The main object of this research was to examine the effect of sintering conditions on the microstructure of tungsten heavy alloys and how the resulting modification of the microstructure can be used to optimize their mechanical properties. Alloys composed of 88%, 93% and 95% wt. of tungsten and the balance is Ni: Fe in the ratio of 7:3 were sintered at different temperatures for different sintering holding times in hydrogen atmosphere. It was shown that the mechanical properties of the alloys, and especially their ductility, are harmed when tungsten grains are contiguous.

IDENTIFICATION OF POSSIBLE MERCURY SOURCES AND ESTIMATION OF MERCURY WET DEPOSITION FLUX IN LAKE ONTARIO FROM LAKE ONTARIO ATMOSPHERIC DEPOSITION STUDY (LOADS)

  • Total gas phase mercury (TGM) concentrations and event wet-only precipitation for Hg were collected for nine months (from April, 2002 to Dec., 2002) at Sterling, NY on the shoreline of Lake Ontario. TGM concentrations measured in this study ($3.02{\pm}2.14\;ng/m^3$) were in somewhat high range compared to other background sites. Using simplified quantitative transport bias analysis (SQTBA) possible sources affecting high Hg concentration in Sterling was identified, and they are coal-fired power plants located in southern NY and Pennsylvania. Wet deposition measured at Mercury Deposition Network (MDN) sites including Pt. Petre and Egbert, ON were compared with data obtained at the Sterling to estimate the total mercury wet deposition flux to Lake Ontario. The wet deposition flux was calculated to be the highest at the Sterling site ($7.94\;{\mu}g/m^2$ from April, 2002 to Dec. 2002) and the lowest at the Egbert ($3.92\;{\mu}g/m^2$), due to the both the difference in precipitation depth and Hg concentration in the precipitation. The deposition measured at the Sterling site is similar to Lake Michigan deposition of $6-14\;{\mu}g/m^2$ (converted for ninth months) measured for Lake Michigan Mass Balance Study (LMMBS).

Sn-Xwt%Cu계 솔더의 젖음성에 관한 연구 (Study on Wettability of Sn-Xwt%Cu Solder)

  • The wettability of Sn-Xwt%Cu(X=$0{\sim}3wt%$) solder was evaluated with wetting balance tester. And, the intermetallic compounds(IMCs) which were formed at the interface between solders and pads were investigated by using scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS). The wetting force of Sn-0.7wt%Cu solder was higher than that of 100wt%Sn and Sn-3.0wt%Cu solder. The value of $\gamma_{fl}$ and ($\gamma_{fs}-\gamma_{ls}$) had a tendency to increase with increasing the wetting temperature. The activation energy with bare Cu pad and flux with 15% solid content was increased in the following order: Sn-0.7Cu (68.42 kJ/mol) ; Sn-3.0Cu(72.66 kJ/mol) ; Sn solder(94.53 kJ/mol). It was identified that the Cu6Sn5 phase was formed at the interface between Sn-Xwt%Cu solder and Cu pad.

편마비 환자를 위한 보행 재활기구 개발 (Development of the Gait Rehabilitation Equipment for Hemiplegic Patients after Stroke)

  • The aim of this study is to design and develop the gait rehabilitation equipment that judge patient's movement of his/her center of gravity using pressure sensors, and to aid hemiplegic patients to balance themselves using an automatic stepper that changes the patient's center of gravity. It is hard to bear the weight on the affected side for hemiplegic patients. The gait rehabilitation equipment detects the footing phase of hemiplegic patient during training and moves the unaffected footing side of the stepper up and moves the affected footing side down simultaneously so that the patient's center of gravity can shift from unaffected side to affected side. The gait rehabilitation system was developed and applied for hemiplegic patients during exercise. Eight hemiplegic patients and one normal adult were studied. The developed gait rehabilitation system could judge not only the normal adult's intention but also the patient's intention to move his/her center of gravity. Even though the most of hemiplegic patients exercised in automatic mode and a few hemiplegic patients exercised in manual mode, the developed gait rehabilitation system can aid the hemiplegic patients to train more easily.

A Zero Sequence Voltage Injection Method for Cascaded H-bridge D-STATCOM

  • Load variations on a distribution line result in voltage fluctuations at the point of common coupling (PCC). In order to keep the magnitude of the PCC voltage constant at its rated value and obtain zero voltage regulation (ZVR), a D-STATCOM is installed for voltage correction. Moreover, the ZVR mode of a D-STATCOM can also be used to balance the source current during unbalanced loading. For medium voltage and high power applications, a D-STATCOM is realized by the cascaded H-bridge topology. In the ZVR mode, the D-STATCOM may draw unbalanced current and in this process is required to handle different phase powers leading to deviations in the cluster voltages. Zero sequence voltage needs to be injected for ZVR mode, which creates circulating power among the phases of the D-STATCOM. The computed zero sequence voltage and the individual DC capacitor balancing controller help the DC cluster voltage follow the reference voltage. The effectiveness of the control scheme is verified by modeling the system in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The obtained simulations are further validated by the experimental results using a dSPACE DS1106 and five-level D-STATCOM experimental set up.

  • In this paper, a test apparatus for reliability evaluation of a rotary compressor has been suggested with a short-cycle concept. $CO_2$ refrigerant is adopted for this cycle to avoid phase change during cycle operation. Evaporator is not necessary in short-cycle. Utilizing a short-cycle, the test apparatus was built on the purpose of evaluating the reliability of each rotary compressor on the conveyer belt of the factory. The primary validation of the test apparatus is discussed by analyzing the experimental heat balance data. Additional validation was performed through the overload continuous operation test where the wear rate of the $CO_2$ short-cycle was found to similar to that of the R22 normal-cycle. The reliability evaluation test apparatus with a short-cycle in present investigation was found simple and efficient in the view of reducing sample numbers, costs, and test time in analyzing the reliability of rotary compressors.

  • 하향신호를 위해서는 반사형 반도체 증폭기를 기반으로 한 광역선폭 광원 기술이 사용되었고 상향신호를 위해서는 파장 재사용 기술이 사용된 양방향 파장분할 다중화 수동 광네트워크 (WDM-PON)가 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통해 구현되었다. 이 시스템에서 세가지 다른 종류의 광필터들이 비교되어 필터링의 영향이 분석되었고, 광 스펙트럼과 아이 다이어그램 (eye diagram)의 분석을 통해 파장 재변조 기술을 최적화 하였다. 최적화된 시스템 조건을 이용하여 양방향 신호의 전송 성능 곡선을 구하였고 이 시스템에서 반사에 의한 신호 왜곡의 영향을 분석하였다.

  • 본 논문은 반도체 변압기용 모듈형 멀티레벨 DC-DC 컨버터의 서브모듈 커패시터 전압 균형 제어 기법을 제안한다. 일반적으로 서브모듈 커패시터 전압은 개별적인 피드백 제어기에 의해 균등하게 제어할 수 있으나 모듈 개수에 따라 연산 시간이 증가한다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 전압 균형 제어 기법은 순시적으로 최대/최소 전압 값의 서브모듈만을 선택 및 제어하여 연산 시간을 저감할 수 있다. 시뮬레이션을 통해 제안하는 방법의 성능 및 타당성에 대한 검증을 진행한다.

New Two-Level L1 Data Cache Bypassing Technique for High Performance GPUs

  • On-chip caches of graphics processing units (GPUs) have contributed to improved GPU performance by reducing long memory access latency. However, cache efficiency remains low despite the facts that recent GPUs have considerably mitigated the bottleneck problem of L1 data cache. Although the cache miss rate is a reasonable metric for cache efficiency, it is not necessarily proportional to GPU performance. In this study, we introduce a second key determinant to overcome the problem of predicting the performance gains from L1 data cache based on the assumption that miss rate only is not accurate. The proposed technique estimates the benefits of the cache by measuring the balance between cache efficiency and throughput. The throughput of the cache is predicted based on the warp occupancy information in the warp pool. Then, the warp occupancy is used for a second bypass phase when workloads show an ambiguous miss rate. In our proposed architecture, the L1 data cache is turned off for a long period when the warp occupancy is not high. Our two-level bypassing technique can be applied to recent GPU models and improves the performance by 6% on average compared to the architecture without bypassing. Moreover, it outperforms the conventional bottleneck-based bypassing techniques.

미세유체장치를 이용한 생분해성 Polycarprolactone의 단분산성 미세입자 생성제어 (Controlled Production of Monodisperse Polycaprolactone Microparticles using Microfluidic Device)

  • 단분산성 마이크로입자는 약물캡슐화 및 전달을 위한 다양한 응용분야에서 사용되고 있다. 미세유체장치는 매우 균일한 액적을 생산할 수 있는 중요한 장치이며 이 액적은 단분산성 마이크로입자를 생성할 수 있는 중요한 템플레이트(template)로의 역할을 한다. 미세유체장치는 마이크론 크기의 채널로 구성되어 표면장력과 점성력 간의 균형을 정교하게 조절할 수 있으며, 이는 단분산성 액적을 형성하는 필수적인 기술 중의 하나이다. 본 연구는 유동집적채널 기반의 미세유체장치에서 매우 균일한 polycaprolactone (PCL) 생분해성 고분자 입자를 제조하는 방법을 제안한다. 유동집적채널 기반의 미세유체장치는 polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) 기반의 소프트리소그래피(soft-lithography) 방법을 통해 제작된다. 액적 생성에서 중요한 요소는 마이크로 액적의 크기와 단분산성을 조절하는 것이다. 이를 위해, 본 연구에서는 이 미세유체장치에서 오일용액 분산상과 수용액 연속상의 부피유속을 제어하여 단분산성 액적 형성 조건을 최적화하였다. 그 결과 균일한 액적을 형성할 수 있는 dripping 영역에 대한 최척화된 유속조건을 확인하였다. 그런 다음, 마이크로입자를 생성하기 위해 PCL 고분자를 포함한 액적을 장치에서 형성한 후 용매의 증발에 의해 입자화 하였다. 입자의 크기는 부피유속과 미세유체채널의 크기에 의해 조절되며 입자의 단분산도는 변동계수(coefficient of variation, CV)값이 5% 이하로 제어될 수 있다.
