The Process Safety Management (PSM) by the Law of Industry, Safety and Health has been performed for preventing major accidents of chemical plants since 1996. In terms of preventing chemical accidents more precisely, it is essential to develop a tool for quantitative risk assessment. For this, KOSHA (Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency) developed an Integrated Risk Management System (IRMS). The system is designed to assimilate data on chemical plant hazards from external database, to integrate these data with location information(topographic and demographic), and to make them user-friendly accessible. The system consists of several main functions: display of five major Korean petrochemical complex layout display of equipment layout with its information utilizing the external database, zonation of the hazard effected area with consequence analyses, the most probable accident scenario generation, accident/incident database and calculation of frequency of accident using equipment reliability database, etc. The highlight of IRMS is to provide the risk contours using GIS(Geographical Information System) technology. IRMS is intended to manage hazardous installation more systematically and effectively, to reduce the number of accident remarkably, further minimizing production loss in the plant. The system is now under application to about 500 PSM sites as well as and emergency authorities in Korea by KOSHA (Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency)
Gas is an energy source widely used in general households and industrial sites, and is also a process material widely used in petrochemical and semiconductor processes. However, while it is easy to use, it can cause large-scale human damage due to leakage, explosion, and human inhalation. Therefore, a gas facility safety management solution that can be safely used at home and industrial sites is essential. In particular, the need to develop advanced gas safety solutions is emerging as gas facilities are aging. In this paper, a technology was developed to measure the presence and concentration of gas leaks from a distance by irradiating photons, the minimum energy unit that can no longer be divided into gas facilities, and analyzing the number of reflected photons. This overcomes technical limitations such as short detection distance and inability to detect fine leaks, which are the limitations of conventional electric/chemical gas sensors or infrared-based gas leak detectors.
Climate change results in unusual weather pattern and affects annual rain fall severely. At the same time, growing industrialization leads to higher energy demand and leakage from petrochemical industry and tanker leads to water pollution. In this scenario, finding out solution to generate clean water is highly essential. For oil/water separation, there are several methods available such as chemical precipitation and adsorption but membrane separation technique is considered to be a more cost and energy efficient process. Amphiphilicity nature of membrane are enhanced by making composite membrane with 2D material such as MXene, resulting in good electrical conductivity and hydrophilicity. This review is mainly classified into two sections: pure MXene and modified MXene. A variety of polymer is used to prepare composite membranes and MXene is modified to further enhance the properties suitable for particular applications.
Lots of networks are constructed in a large scale industrial complex. Each network meet their demands through production or transportation of materials which are needed to companies in a network. Network directly produces materials for satisfying demands in a company or purchase form outside due to demand uncertainty, financial factor, and so on. Especially utility network and hydrogen network are typical and major networks in a large scale industrial complex. Many studies have been done mainly with focusing on minimizing the total cost or optimizing the network structure. But, few research tries to make an integrated network model by connecting utility network and hydrogen network In this study, deterministic mixed integer linear programming model is developed for integrating utility network and hydrogen network. Steam Methane Reforming process is necessary for combining two networks. After producing hydrogen from Steam-Methane Reforming process whose raw material is steam vents from utility network, produced hydrogen go into hydrogen network and fulfill own needs. Proposed model can suggest optimized case in integrated network model, optimized blueprint, and calculate optimal total cost. The capability of the proposed model is tested by applying it to Yeosu industrial complex in Korea. Yeosu industrial complex has the one of the biggest petrochemical complex and various papers are based in data of Yeosu industrial complex. From a case study, the integrated network model suggests more optimal conclusions compared with previous results obtained by individually researching utility network and hydrogen network.
Design techniques for minimizing the damage caused by leakage of $H_2S$ gas, contained in natural gas and petroleum, have been widely studied abroad in chemical plants that purify and process natural gas and petroleum. However, there is no domestic engineering practice and regulation of $H_2S$. In accordance with the circumstances, this study proposes the quantitative criteria of process equipment to install $H_2S$ toxic gas detector as 500 ppm and explains the valid basis. The $H_2S$ gas dispersion radius up to IDLH 100 ppm is calculated by ALOHA under previous $H_2S$ gas leak accident scenario. The weather conditions of modeling include the conditions of Ulsan, Yeosu and Daesan, the three major petrochemical complexes in Korea. The long radius up to 100 ppm was derived in order of Ulsan, Daesan, Yeosu. For emergency safety the dispersion radius up to 100 ppm of the $H_2S$ gas obtained in this study should be extended to apply the additional $H_2S$ toxic gas detector, and local climate conditions should be considered.

Recent popularity in mobile electronics requires higher standard on the mechanical strength of electronic packaging. Thus, the method of soldering between chip and substrate in electronic packaging process is changing from conventional method using intermetallic compound to a new method using organic solderability preservative (OSP) in order to improve the stability and the reliability of final product. Since current organic solder preservatives have several serious problems like thermo-stability during packaging process, however, it is necessary to develop new OSPs having thermo-stability. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of MeOH/IPA (Isopropyl alcohol) ratio on the fluxing of a new OSP, developed in previous research, andto find out an optimum formulation of flux components for the application of the OSP in current packaging process. As a result of this study, it was revealed that higher MeOH/IPA ratio in flux showed better performance of fluxing a new OSP.

Several complex processes that are employed in industries, such as shipping, power plants, and the petrochemical industry, involve time-varying behavior as well as strong nonlinear behavior during operation. The fixed-parameter proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers have difficulty in dealing with control problems that occur in such processes. In this paper, we propose a method of designing a nonlinear PID controller for industrial processes that exhibit a large number of nonlinearities and time-varying behavior. The gains of the nonlinear PID controller are characterized by a simple nonlinear function of the error and/or error rate depending on the process set-point and output. We tune the user-defined parameters using a genetic algorithm by minimizing the integral of time absolute error (ITAE) index. We verify the effectiveness of the proposed method by performing a comparison of the proposed method and two other nonlinear and adaptive methods that are employed for reference tracking, disturbance-rejection performances, and robustness to parameter changes on a continuously stirred tank reactor.

Information on the lists of pollutants from industrial wastewater discharge are essential not only to specify the key pollutants to be managed in permission process but to design the treatment facilities by the dischargers. In this study, wastewater quality analysis was conducted for three industrial categories including the specified hazardous water pollutants. The general description of the wastewater occurrence, major sources, treatment facilities are also investigated to obtain integrated database on the pollutant inventories for the industrial categories. In addition Based on the analysis of raw wastewater and final effluent, the detected pollutant items are confirmed by analyzing their presence in the raw or supplement materials, the potential of formation as byproducts, and the possibility of inclusion as impurities. The three industrial categories include petrochemical basic compounds, basic organic compounds, and thermal power generation. The water pollutants emitted from petrochemical basic compound manufacturing facilities are 31 items including 16 specified hazardous water pollutants. Basic organic compound manufacturing facilities discharge 30 kinds of pollutants including 14 specified hazardous water pollutants. Thermal power generation facilities emit 20 pollutants, 8 specified hazardous water pollutants among them. These substances were decided as emission inventories of water pollutants finally through the probability evaluation. The compounds detected for each categories are screened through investigation on the possible causes of their occurrence and confirmed as the final water pollutant inventories.
Carbon/carbon (C/C) composites as unique materials possess exceptional thermal resistance with light weight, high stiffness, and strength even at high temperature. However, one serious obstacle for application of the C/C composites is their poor oxidation resistance in high temperature oxidizing environments. SiC coating has been employed to protect the composites from oxidation. This study explored combustion characteristics of 4-directional (4D) carbon/carbon composites using liquid fuel rocket engine to investigate ablative motion of the materials. C/C composites were made of coal tar pitch as a matrix precursor, and heat-treated at $2300^{\circ}C$. Throughout repeated densification process, the density of the material reached $1.903g/cm^3$. After machining 4D C/C composites, the nozzle surface was coated by a SiC layer by pack-cementation method to improve oxidation resistance. Erosion characteristics of SiC-coated C/C composites were measured as function of the ratio of oxygen to fuel. The morphological change of the composites after combustion test was investigated using SEM and erosion mechanism also was discussed.
2,3,5,6-Tetramethyl-1,4-phenylenediamine (TMPD) based polyimide (PI) were crosslinked with 1,2-Diaminoethane (DAE) and 1,6-Diaminohexane (DAH) to enhance gas transport properties. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) studies show that imide groups were converted into amide groups during crosslinking process. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) results indicate that the degradation temperature of crosslinked PI membranes decreased after crosslinking. This is due to degradation of alkyl group in crosslinking agent. The d-space of crosslinked PI membranes decreased with increasing crosslinking time. The ideal permeability for $CH_4$, $N_2$, $O_2$, and $CO_2$ decreased after crosslinking and the ideal permeability of crosslinked PI membranes induced by DAH is larger than that by DAE. In contrast, the permselectivity of $CO_2/CH_4$, $CO_2/N_2$ and $O_2/N_2$ increased during crosslinking. For the gas pair of $CO_2/CH_4$, the maximum increment is about 39.5% after 6 minutes of DAE crosslinking. Also, that of $O_2/N_2$ gas pair is about 20.5% after 6 minutes of DAE crosslinking. According to these result, DAE is more suitable for enhanced permselectivity than DAH. On the contrary, DAE is not useful for $CO_2/N_2$ separation due to reduction in $CO_2/N_2$ permselectivity after 3 minutes DAE crosslinking.
