  • A spray chrysanthemum cultivar 'Green Candy' was released by National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science, Rural Development Administration, in 2009. The cross between 'Yoko Ono', a spray chrysanthemum cultivar with light yellowish-green double type, and 'Green Bird', a spray chrysanthemum cultivar with vigorous and green double type, was made in Suwon in 2006. After the evaluation of the characteristics under shade culture in summer and retarding culture in spring and consecutive selection from 2007 to 2009, 'Green Candy' was selected finality. The natural flowering time of 'Green Candy' is October 28th, and it is possible to flower all year-round by shade and light culture. It has double flower type with green petals. The growth of plant is very vigorous and the color of the petals is stable when the variety is cultivated under high temperature conditions in summer season. The diameter of flower is 4.1 cm. The numbers of flower per stem and petals per flower are 12 and 217, respectively. The days for flowering under the short day treatment are about 58 and its vase life is 18.1 days in autumn season. 'Green Candy' was applied as No. 2010-212 on March 5, 2010 for variety protection and the plant variety protection rights have been registered as No. 3633 on August 2, 2011 at the Korea Seed and Variety Service.

  • A new $Saxifraga$ $fortunei$ cultivar 'Crystal' was bred by crossing 'Dotaerang' with light pink and light Green (RP 58D) colored petals and 'Rocksun' with light pink and light green white (RP62A + GW157A) colored petals. The selection and flower characterization were conducted from 2004 to 2007 in a greenhouse of the National Institute of Highland Agriculture. The flowering of 'Crystal' occurred from September 21 for 31 days. The number of flowers per plant was 279.0 with many flowering habit. The flower coloration was mixed light pink and green white (RP62D + GW157B) at the opening. The number of petals were 7.0, with a width of 2.1 cm and length of 1.8 cm. The plant height was 15.3 cm and number of leaves was 133.7. 'Crystal' cultivar can be used for pot flower. Fifty percent shading is a good cultural practice against direct sunlight and soft rot disease would occurs usually by over-irrigation. 'Crystal' cultivar was registered as a new variety with No. 3466 at Korea Seed and Variety Service in April of 2011 year.

  • This research was carried out to produce rainbow-colored roses from white cut rose, Rosa hybrida 'Denice', to meet customers' desire of having various colors of roses. The higher temperature of dyeing solution used, the faster coloring time surveyed. In high temperature, the flowering speed of cut flower accelerated and after treating more than 4 hours, the edges of flowers became too dark or dry. In the condition of concentration of dyeing solution, $11g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ dyed faster than $7.5g{\cdot}L^{-1}$, however, no differences between $15g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ and $11g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ have observed. It looked fast coloration at the stage of early blooming, but all three different petal opening stages need similar time to get even coloration from outer to inner petals. For the consideration of commercial value, flowers with 3-4 petals opened are better quality than flowers with less petals opened. It was possible to make rainbow-colored rose by dipping 'Denice' with 3 primary color combination, Hot Pink, True Blue, and Yellow dyes, at the best result conditions of $20^{\circ}C$ solution temperature, 3-4 petals opening stage, 11g/L concentration of dye solution and 3 hours dipping, respectively.

  • In the Edo period speaking of hair culture, common women wore decorative pigtail ribbons on the right, and twisted from side to side their tressed hair in such a manner as ungeunmeori and traemeori. Instead of gachae, common women used gogae made of their own hair, ungeunmeori on forehead, or jjokjinmeori at the back of head. During the Edo period, people women naturally exposed their necklines as a way of exposing their faces in the aesthetically ceremonial act of wearing make-up. As for lipsticks, they rouged extracts from red petals of safflowers mainly on their lips, and sometimes on their cheeks by blending this with white powder. Samurai families disliked women who wore thick lip makeup. In the latter period, women painted their necklines or foreheads black, applied a small amount of rouge on their cheeks thinly or thickly, and colored a reddish color into their fingernails by using petals and leaves of balsam flowers. Despite the chronological and spatial proximity of the King Jeongjo period and the Edo period, it was found that there were no similarities between two countries' cosmetic cultures. Moreover, it was discovered that current TV dramas were being produced, even not based on historical evidence in the Jeongjo period.

  • This study investigated the ecological characteristics of Frankliniella occidentalis on four horticultural crops. On red pepper leaves, larval developmental period and survival rate of F. occidentalis were 6.4 days and 67%, respectively. While adult female lived longer on cucumber leaves as long as 16 days, on Petal lived 8.1 days. F. occidentalis adult female preferred tomato to eggplant, cucumber and red pepper, and higher number of hatched larva were from leaves of middle part of egg-plant compared with those from other parts. F. occidentalis adult female fed preferably on petal compared with leaves and Petals of eggplant, and among petals of four tested plants, the most preference was those of red pepper.
