Teachers are the primary agent of didactic transposition. In the process of transposing mathematical knowledge presented in mathematics curriculum and textbooks to mathematical knowledge for teaching in a classroom, teachers are significantly influenced by not only teachers' personal factors but also circumstances and constraints existing inside and outside of classrooms. Therefore, to understand teachers' didactic transposition, we need to analyze influence of institutional and socio-cultural factors on teachers' didactic transposition process. Identifying factors and constraints influencing teachers' didactic transposition provides important opportunities to have a deeper understanding of teachers' didactic transposition and develop their classroom practices. This study analyzed secondary mathematics teachers' perspectives on didactic transposition by exploring factors influencing their didactic transposition process using their reflective journal about their classroom practices. As a result, we identified the five factors influencing participating teachers' didactic transposition. We also found that different teachers had different extent of influence of five factors on their didactic transposition. Based on the results, we discussed ways to help mathematics teachers' didactic transposition.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the perspectives of pre-service elementary teachers on science education of future by using Draw-A-Science-Teacher-Test Checklist and open-ended questionnaire. The subjects of this study were 136 pre-service elementary teachers. The results of the research are as follows. The pre-service teachers thought that the physical environment reflecting the latest science and technology for science education will be developed in the future. However, few respondents indicated that student-centered equipment or a free and creative classroom environment would be provided. Second, they predicted that there would be changes in teacher's activities due to the introduction of advanced facilities and equipment, but most of the other teachers' activities were thought to be similar to those of current teachers. Third, the pre-service elementary teachers thought that a variety of new technologies would be used in science education and science teachers would mainly teach high-technology, IT technology, science knowledge, and newly discovered science concepts. In addition, we found that pre-service elementary teachers' images were more 'teacher-centered' than 'student-centered'. These results show that pre-service elementary teachers are expected to utilize the latest science and technology actively in science education in 2030 and that it will lead to changes in the physical environment, teachers' activities, education contents, and teaching and learning methods. In addition, they viewed acquisition of science concept as an important goal of science education in the future and had different points of view from the current science education curriculum and scholars' emphasis on educational research for the future.
This study explores perspectives on responding to EFL students' compositions at the semantic level. In the last three decades, there has been a shift from product-oriented approach to process-oriented one to teaching writing. The shift has led to the criticism of the traditional view on teacher response. The traditional view has been under attack for its overemphasis upon form and ineffectiveness on improving student writing skill. It is also noted that research into students' reactions to the traditional teacher response has been inconclusive. The process-oriented approach, on the other hand, draws its attention to meaning and the logical development of thought as well as linguistic matters. In this context, the present study discusses what EFL teachers need to take into account in providing the semantic-level feedback on students' compositions. Firstly, teacher response to student writing is on-going; teacher feedback involves teacher intervention in the drafting process, the revision process, and the presentation of product. Secondly, in the writing conferences, the teacher provides students an opportunity to talk about writing, assistance and advice on the content/meaning of the written text, helping them expand and clarify thinking about audience(reader) and purpose.
This study identifies elements involved in designing rehearsals for improving preservice teachers' capacity to teach mathematics. Observation of a secondary mathematics methods course and regular interviews with the teacher educator following each class were used in this research. After characterizing what is considered and enacted in rehearsals as a way to help preservice teachers practice the work of teaching mathematics, I illustrate them with examples from the observations and interviews. I then discuss the challenge of dual contexts-the teacher education classroom and the secondary mathematics classroom-and dual perspectives-the mathematical and pedagogical-in designing and enacting rehearsals. I conclude with implications for mathematics teacher education.

The purpose of this research is to find the impact of multicultural awareness of pre-service secondary teachers on multicultural efficacy. Specific content of the study for achieving this purpose is as follows: First, the correlation between multicultural awareness of pre-service secondary teachers and multicultural efficacy was analyzed. Second, the effect relation between multicultural awareness of pre-service secondary teachers and multicultural efficacy was examined. As part of quantitative research, the method of study was a survey targeting 234 pre-service Secondary teachers who were sophomores, juniors and seniors at D University, P University and S University located in Busan. The study results earned from this process are as below: First, statistically significantly high positive correlation existed between multicultural awareness of pre-service secondary teachers and multicultural efficacy. The areas of acceptance, openness and respect, which are the sub-scale of multicultural awareness of pre-service secondary teachers, showed high positive correlations with all sub-scale of multicultural efficacy including general efficacy, efficacy in instructional function, efficacy in caring perspectives and efficacy in helping multicultural families. Second, the sub-scale of multicultural awareness that significantly affected general efficacy in the sub-scale of multicultural efficacy of pre-service secondary teachers was acceptance and respect. The sub-scale of multicultural awareness that significantly affected efficacy in instructional function was acceptance. The sub-scale of multicultural awareness that significantly affected efficacy in caring perspectives was acceptance and respect. The sub-scale of multicultural awareness that significantly affected efficacy in helping multicultural families was respect. It showed that openness in the sub-scale of multicultural awareness did not affect multicultural efficacy much.
This research aims to compare and identify the prospective elementary teachers' perspectives on mathematics class. In this aim, we analyzed the comments on the mathematics class by the prospective elementary teachers (senior students and junior students) who are differ in the time of study in the University of Education. As the results of this research, the senior students commented the mathematics class by applying the theories in mathematics education, but the junior students did not. Furthermore, the senior students had the more rigid perspectives on mathematics class and commented in more depth on mathematics class in comparison with the junior students. While, the senior students showed a weak point that they overextended and over-applied the some mathematics education theories in the comments on mathematics class.

This research aimed to investigate whether Korean education programs for secondary science teachers reflect constructivist perspectives. To identify how to introduce the idea of constructivism and STS into the courses of the current Korean education programs for secondary science teachers, two programs were selected: the Qualifying In-service Program held in Seoul and the pre-service programs established in the four departments of science education of the Korean National University of Education in Chungbuk. The course guidebooks, syllabi, and text materials prepared for implementation of the courses were collected and analyzed. E-mail correspondence with the program instructors who had conveyed both ideas to the trainees provided us more precise information about the characteristics of the classes, such as the total time provided the ideas and the teaching strategies used to implement the classes. The results indicated that the pre-service programs included the ideas of constructivism and STS more than did the Qualifying In-service Program. It is necessary that the courses included in the Korean in-service program, in particular the Qualifying In-service Program for secondary science teachers, have to be more focused on the constructivist perspectives.
This study explored teachers (n = 219) from northern, central, southern and eastern Taiwan concerning their views about children's learning difficulties, mathematical instruction and school mathematics curricular. Results showed that teachers' mathematics knowledge or their instruction methods had no significant influence on their views of children's learning difficulties. Even though teachers indicated that understanding of abstract mathematical concepts was the most prominent difficulty for children, they tended to employ direct instruction rather than constructive and cooperative problem solving in their teaching. However, teachers' views of children's learning difficulties did influence their instructional practice. Results from in-dept interviews revealed that there were some obstacles that prevented teachers from putting constructiveism perspectives of instruction into teaching practice. Further investigation is needed to develop a better understanding of epistemology and teaming psychology as well as to help teachers create constructive learning situations.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions and perspectives on meanings and use of manipulatives in mathematics lessons. For the investigation, the researcher reviewed related literature and analyzed the perceptions of preservice teachers on the meanings and use of manipulatives in mathematics lessons. The participants were 75 preservice elementary school teachers who took a teaching practice course at the 1st or the 2nd semester in 2015. These preservice teachers observed mathematics lessons for two weeks during the student teaching periods. They were requested to observed the use of manipulatives in mathematics lessons and wrote about their ideas on the meanings and use of manipulatives. Result of the research was that the perceptions on the meanings and use of manipulatives from the preservice teachers' perspectives are as follows. Manipulatives in mathematics lessons were self-made or pre-made manufactures. The using time of manipulatives during lessons varies, and the teachers provide the manipulatives with contexts. Providing in-depth observation during a teaching practice course is allowed opportunities for preservice teachers to reflect their mathematics teaching and learning methods in the classroom.
