An Empirical Analysis of the Active Use Paths induced by YouTube's Personalization Algorithm (유튜브의 개인화 알고리즘이 유도하는 적극이용 경로에 대한 실증분석)

  • This study deals with exploring qualitative steps and paths that appear as YouTube users' usage time increases quantitatively. For the study, I applied theories from psychology and neuroscience, subdivided the interval between the personalization algorithm of the recommendation system, and active use and analyzed the relationship between variables in this process. According to the theory behavioral model theory (FBM), variable reward, and dopamine addiction were applied. Personalization algorithms easy clicks as triggers according to associated content presentation functions in behavioral model theory (FBM). Variable rewards increase motivational effectiveness with unpredictability of the content you search, and dopamine nation is summarized as stimulating the dopaminergic nerve to continuously and actively consume content. This study is expected to make an academic and practical contribution in that it divides the purpose of use of content in the personalization algorithm and active use section into four stages from a psychological perspective: first use, reuse, continuous use, and active use, and analyzes the path.

Performance Evaluation of Recommendation Results through Optimization on Content Recommendation Algorithm Applying Personalization in Scientific Information Service Platform (과학 학술정보 서비스 플랫폼에서 개인화를 적용한 콘텐츠 추천 알고리즘 최적화를 통한 추천 결과의 성능 평가)

  • In order to secure the convenience of information retrieval by users of scientific information service platforms and to reduce the time required to acquire the proper information, this study proposes an optimized content recommendation algorithm among the algorithms that currently provide service menus and content information for each service, and conducts comparative evaluation on the results. To enhance the recommendation accuracy, users' major items were added to the original algorithm, and performance evaluations on the recommendation results from the original and optimized algorithms were performed. As a result of this evaluation, we found that the relevance of the content provided to the users through the optimized algorithm was increased by 21.2%. This study proposes a method to shorten the information acquisition time and extend the life cycle of the results as valuable information by automatically computing and providing content suitable for users in the system for each service menu.

  • A recommendation system tracks past actions of a group of users to make a recommendation to individual members of the group. The computer-mediated marketing and commerce have grown rapidly nowadays so the concerns about various recommendation procedures are increasing. We introduce a recommendation methodology by which e-commerce sites suggest new products of services to their customers. The suggested methodology is based on web log analysis, product taxonomy, and association rule mining. A product recommendation system is developed based on our suggested methodology and applied to a Korean internet shopping mall. The validity of our recommendation system is discussed with the analysis of a real internet shopping mall case.

Sparsity Effect on Collaborative Filtering-based Personalized Recommendation (협업 필터링 기반 개인화 추천에서의 평가자료의 희소 정도의 영향)

  • Collaborative filtering is one of popular techniques for personalized recommendation in e-commerce sites. An advantage of collaborative filtering is that the technique can work with sparse evaluation data to predict preference scores of new alternative contents or advertisements. There is, however, no in-depth study about the sparsity effect of customer's evaluation data to the performance of recommendation. In this study, we investigate the sparsity effect and hybrid usages of customers' evaluation data and purchase data using an experiment result. The result of the analysis shows that the performance of recommendation decreases monotonically as the sparsity increases, and also the hybrid usage of two different types of data; customers' evaluation data and purchase data helps to increase the performance of recommendation in sparsity situation.

  • In ubiquitous computing environment such as ubiquitous marketplace (u-market), there is a need of providing context-based personalization service while considering the nomadic user preference and corresponding requirements. To do so, the recommendation systems should deal with the tremendous amount of context data. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to propose a novel recommendation method which provides the products-group list of the customers in u-market based on the shopping intention and preferences. We have developed FREPIRS(FREquent Purchased Item-sets Recommendation Service), which makes recommendation listof product-group, not individual product. Collaborative filtering and apriori algorithm are adopted in FREPIRS to build product-group.

  • Our research team implemented and operated the system by analyzing the membership information and identifying the different preferences for each group and providing the results of the recommendation based on accumulated membership information and activity log data to the individual. The utilization log was followed up. We analyzed how many people use recommended services and analyzed whether there are any factors other than the personalization service algorithm that affect the service utilization of the system with personalization. In addition, we propose recommendation methods based on behavioral changes when incentives are given through analyzing patterns of users' usage according to methods of recommending services and contents that are often used based on analysis contents.

  • Today, many services and products that used to be only provided on offline have been being provided on the web according to the improvement of computing environment and the activation of web usage. These web-based services and products tend to be provided to customer by customer's preferences. This paradigm that considers customer's opinions and features in selecting is called personalization. The related research field is a recommendation. And this recommendation is performed by recommender system. Generally the recommendation is made from the preferences and tastes of customers. And recommender system provides this recommendation to user. However, the recommendation techniques have a couple of problems; they do not provide suitable recommendation to new users and also are limited to computing space that they generate recommendations which is dependent on ratings of products by users. Those problems has gathered some continuous interest from the recommendation field. In the case of new users, so similar users can't be classified because in the case of new users there is no rating created by new users. The problem of the limitation of the recommendation space is not easy to access because it is related to moneywise that the cost will be increasing rapidly when there is an addition to the dimension of recommendation. Therefore, I propose the solution of the recommendation problem of new user and the usage of item quality as weight to improve the accuracy of recommendation in this paper.

  • A personalized product recommendation is an enabling mechanism to overcome information overload occurred when shopping in an Internet marketplace. Collaborative filtering has been known to be one of the most successful recommendation methods, but its application to e-commerce has exposed well-known limitations such as sparsity and scalability, which would lead to poor recommendations. This paper suggests a personalized recommendation methodology by which we are able to get further effectiveness and quality of recommendations when applied to an Internet shopping mall. The suggested methodology is based on a variety of data mining techniques such as web usage mining, decision tree induction, association rule mining and the product taxonomy. For the evaluation of the methodology, we implement a recommender system using intelligent agent and data warehousing technologies.

  • The need for personalized web site design has been increased these days. Current approach for personalized web site design is easily applied to web site with their cost-effective feature, but is hard to provide a more refined personalized service due to its lack of accumulation of user data. In this study, the design recommender system is investigated as a more advanced method for web site design personalization. We provide an overview of current recommender systems, and then outlined a newly developed design recommender system, which employs collaborative filtering technique to provide tailored recommendation for users.

  • Recently recommendation methods need personalization and diversity as well as accuracy whereas the traditional researches have been mainly focused on the accuracy of recommendation in terms of quality. The diversity of recommendation is also important to people in terms of quantity in addition to quality since people's desire for content consumption have been stronger rapidly than past. In this paper, we pay attention to similarity of data gathered simultaneously among different types of contents. With this motivation, we propose an enhanced recommendation method using correlation analysis with considering data similarity between two types of contents which are movie and music. Specifically, we regard folksonomy tags for music as correlated data of genres for movie even though they are different attributes depend on their contents. That is, we make result of new recommendation movie items through mapping music folksonomy tags to movie genres in addition to the recommendation items from the typical collaborative filtering. We evaluate effectiveness of our method by experiments with real data set. As the result of experimentation, we found that the diversity of recommendation could be extended by considering data similarity between music contents and movie contents.
