Wearable Personal Network Based on Fabric Serial Bus Using Electrically Conductive Yarn

  • E-textile technology has earned a great deal of interest in many fields; however, existing wearable network protocols are not optimized for use with conductive yarn. In this paper, some of the basic properties of conductive textiles and requirements on wearable personal area networks (PANs) are reviewed. Then, we present a wearable personal network (WPN), which is a four-layered wearable PAN using bus topology. We have designed the WPN to be a lightweight protocol to work with a variety of microcontrollers. The profile layer is provided to make the application development process easy. The data link layer exchanges frames in a master-slave manner in either the reliable or best-effort mode. The lower part of the data link layer and the physical layer of WPN are made of a fabric serial-bus interface which is capable of measuring bus signal properties and adapting to medium variation. After a formal verification of operation and performances of WPN, we implemented WPN communication modules (WCMs) on small flexible printed circuit boards. In order to demonstrate the behavior of our WPN on a textile, we designed a WPN tutorial shirt prototype using implemented WCMs and conductive yarn.

  • ZigBee기술은 Home Automation, Building Automation 그리고 Sensor Network 분야까지 다양한 분야에서 기술적인 가능성을 가지고 있다. 그러나 ZigBee기술은 WPAN(Personal Area Network) 영역으로 그 범위를 제한하고 있어 Home Automation에 적용할 수 있는 분야가 제한될 수 밖에 없다. 본 논문에서는 ZigBee의 binding기술을 확장하여 home network에 도입하기 위한 방안을 제시하고, 댁외 device들이 home server를 통하여 ZigBee의 device들과 어떻게 binding될 수 있는지를 보이고자 한다. 또한 위의 내용을 기반으로 home network의 automation을 댁외 망으로 확장할 수 있음을 보이고자 한다.

  • The international standards of high-rate WPAN (Wireless Personal Area network) are under development by IEEE802.15 WPAN TG3 (Task Group 3). The study area of TG3 mainly consists of three parts: high rate physical and media access control layer in 2.4GHz ISM (Industrial Scientific Medical) non licensed frequency band; an alternative high rate physical layer by using UWB (Ultra Wide Band); and another alternative high rate physical layer based on millimeter wave. This paper describes the standardization trends of UWB and millimeter wave.

Adaptive Cross-Layer Packet Scheduling Method for Multimedia Services in Wireless Personal Area Networks

  • High-rate wireless personal area network (HR-WPAN) has been standardized by the IEEE 802.15.3 task group (TG). To support multimedia services, the IEEE 802.15.3 TG adopts a time-slotted medium access control (MAC) protocol controlled by a central device. In the time division multiple access (TDMA)-based wireless packet networks, the packet scheduling algorithm plays a key role in quality of service (QoS) provisioning for multimedia services. In this paper, we propose an adaptive cross-layer packet scheduling method for the TDMA-based HR-WPAN. Physical channel conditions, MAC protocol, link layer status, random traffic arrival, and QoS requirement are taken into consideration by the proposed packet scheduling method. Performance evaluations are carried out through extensive simulations and significant performance enhancements are observed. Furthermore, the performance of the proposed scheme remains stable regardless of the variable system parameters such as the number of devices (DEVs) and delay bound.

The Effect of Social Capital on Personal Happiness: A Focus on Service Inderstry Employees

  • The purpose of this study focuses on finding the influences of social capital on personal happiness by studying service industry employees. This current study utilized a questionnaire survey method which was used to collect the analysis data, from July 20 to August 10 in 2019. 281 questionnaires were gathered in Korea and the statistical analysis was conducted. This study recognized social capital as 3 independent variables and personal happiness as a dependent variable. Social capital is composed of the social network, social trust and social norms. First, the social network consisted of the satisfaction degree in one's social relations and the social interaction degree. Second, social trust is composed of the trust degree with ones neighbors in the same local area. Last, social norms are consisted of reciprocity, participation and a sense of belonging one feels in the same society. The findings of this study were as follows: first, it was found that social network, social trust, and social norms made affirmative influences on personal happiness of the employees. Second, the social network and social norms made statistically significant influences with personal happiness, but social trust was shown to not have similar influence.

  • This paper proposes a middleware structure for the module-based personal robot, which can run on heterogeneous network interfaces and provides users easy interface-method regardless of underlying heterogeneous interfaces and convenient exchange of modules. The proposed middleware is divided into three layers of a streaming layer (SL), a network adaptation layer (NAL) and a network interface layer (NIL). The streaming layer manages application transactions using middleware services and provides user a uniform interfaces to the proposed middleware. The network adaptation layer manages a message-routing and provides naming service and it is a core of the proposed middleware. And the network interfaces layer manages dependent parts of heterogeneous network interfaces such as IEEE1394, USB, Ethernet, and CAN (Control Area Network). This paper implements the proposed middleware structure, where 3 types of interfaces of IEEE 1394, USB and Ethernet are used, and measures response times among those interfaces.

  • The study on the structure of personal information flows is very important because government can measure and respond the risks caused by companies which collect personal information from other personal data users to operate their business. Recently, as the value of personal information is increasing, number of companies which intend to process a large scale of personal information is increasing too. Accordingly, the issue on the structure of personal data flow has become important for the leading personal information processors which receive far more personal information from others to comply the personal information protection laws. However, research on this issue has rarely performed so far. Therefore, this study proposes a framework for personal information data flow structure based on network theory. Theoretically, the results of the study may contribute to extending the application areas of the network theory to personal information area. Practically, the study may contribute to assisting regulatory authorities to find and monitor personal information processors.

A Design and Implementation of modified ZigBee using the Directed-Messaging for Energy Efficiency Improvement (에너지 효율성 향상을 위하여 방향성 메시징을 사용하는 수정된 지그비의 설계 및 구현)

  • ZigBee is the low power, low cost and low data rate wireless personal area network(LR-WPAN) standard. The Directed-Messaging is the protocol which improves the energy efficiency through reducing the redundant message transmission by transmitting messages with directional information toward the specified sub-network area in wireless sensor network using broadcasting. In this paper, we design and implement the experimental grid sensor network using ZigBee modified by the Directed-Messaging for the energy efficiency improvement. The experimental sensor network in this paper is configured with Nano24 supporting the ADV message and the routing management module modified to use the directional information. The energy efficiency improvement of the experimental sensor-network by evaluating the experimental results according to transmitting ADV message.

  • Recetly, the term Personal Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) was introduced to supprot reliable and authenticated service in a Personal Area Network (PAN). However, traditional public key signature schemes and certificate status management are not suitable for a PAN environment since mobile devices that constitute the PAN have limited computing capability. In this paper, we propose a new scheme that efficiently provides signature generation and certificate status management for mobile devices. Based on hash chain technique, we intend to reduce computational overhead on signature generation, and further, to minimize communication overhead for managing certificate status.

  • 본 논문에서는 W-PAN 환경에서 IP공유기를 표준설계하고 구현하며 효율적인 실시간 사용자 웹기반 인증 기법을 연구하였다. 또한 W-PAN Device & Service Application 인증과 접근, 권한제어를 위한 인증 Client 모듈과 Server 모듈, Supplicant를 개발하고 제안하였다. 이를 통해 IP 공유기 기반 환경에서의 W-PAN 환경에서 인증 제어 솔루션에 대한 개발로 생산되는 단말기의 서비스 품질을 향상시키고 무선 접속 기술을 표준화 할 수 있다. 또한 유해한 트래픽을 검색하고 보호하는 안정적인 시스템 관리가 가능해졌다. W-PAN Device와 Service Application 인증, 접근 및 권한 제어를 위한 인증 시스템의 플랫폼 구축으로 향후 관련 기술의 통합과 융합 기술을 적용할 수 있는 능력을 확보하였다.
