  • To analyze and design a motor magnetic permeance method and numerical methods such as F.E.M. are used. In this thesis, DC motor is analyzed and designed by the permeance method. Modified Carter coefficient and leakage permeance are presented. A magnetic flux path can be approximated properly by using a equivalent ${\pi}$ network representation adding the leakage coefficient. Finally, effective and easy-to-use program is realized. Experimental analysis and design with an actual motor proves that this program produces reliable results. There are many experimental coefficients in this algorithm and it makes some design errors. Using of this program, an motor engineer can obtain satisfactory characteristic and design value by inputting initial data at once.

  • The equivalent model of a permanent magnet (PM) plays an important role in electromagnetic system calculation. A type of subsection model for a PM bar is established, to improve the accuracy of the traditional equivalent circuit method. The mathematical expression, and its end verification condition, are presented. Based on the analytical method and finite element method, the leakage permeance calculation of a PM bar in an open magnetic circuit is investigated. As an example, for a given certain type of PM bar, the magnetic flux of each section is validated by experiment, and by simulation. This model offers a foundation for building a high accuracy equivalent magnetic PM model in an electromagnetic system.

  • A porous $\alpha$-alumina tube of 2.5 mm O.D. and 1.9 mm I.D. was used as the support of an inorganic membrane. Macropores of the tube, about 150 nm in size, were plugged with silica formed by thermal decomposition of tetraethylorthosilicate at $600^{\circ}C$. The forced cross-flow CVD method that reactant was evacuated through the porous wall of the support was very effective in plugging macropores. The H$_2$ permeance of the prepared membrane was of the order of $10^{-8}/ molㆍs^{-1}/ㆍm^{-2}/. Pa{-1}$/, while the $N_2$ permeance was below $10^{-11}/ molㆍs^{-1}/ㆍm^{-2}/ㆍPa^{-1}$/ at $600^{\circ}C$. This was comparable to that of silica-modified Vycor glass whose size was 4 nm.

  • This paper is concerned with the design and the construction of a moving magnet type linear DC motor(MM type LDM) for instrumentation. A mathematical model for the design of a LDM is developed and a permeance method is used to calculate the effective flux density in the air gap. The flux distribution in the air gap is analyzed and the width of iron core should be determined in order not to saturate the iron core by caluclating maxmum flux density. The design data culculated by a permeance method are compared with the analyzed results using FEM(MAXWELL 2D). The errors between two results are corrected. The tested LDM is constructed using the corrected design data. The results of experiment for thrust characteristics are compared with simulation.

  • Torque is proportional to the rate of change of inductance in a switched reluctance motor (SRM), and hence, phase inductance is an important parameter in determining the behavior of an SRM. Therefore, the accurate prediction of inductance with respect to rotor position makes a significant contribution to designing an SRM and its analytical approach is not straightforward due to nonlinear flux distribution. Although several different approaches using a finite element analysis (FEA) or curve-fitting tool have been employed to compute phase inductance [2-5], they are not suitable for a simple design procedure because the FEA necessitates a large amount of time in both modeling and solving with complexity for every motor design, and the curve-fitting requires the data of flux linkage from either an experimental test or an FEA simulation. In this paper, phase inductance is predicted by means of a permeance method, and the proposed approach is analytically verified in terms of the accuracy of estimated inductance compared to inductance obtained by FEA.

  • MFL(Magnetic Flux Leakage) methods are used extensively for inspection of ferromagnetic materials. As an example, pipelines that are buried underground are inspected using MFL methods. By the MFL methods, ferromagnetic pipelines are magnetized by a permanent magnet or an electromagnet and then flux leakage is detected at the defection position. In this paper, we perform modeling of the magnetized pipelines. Also we propose the method localization of th defected areas. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified experimentally.

  • In this paper, the characteristics of a double-sided linear pulse motor (DLPM) with permanent magnet are analysed using the method which combined the coenergy method and the equivalent magnetic circuit method. In the process of computation, the magnetic material nonlinealities of the permanent magnet, the primary and the secondary core are interpolated by the cubic spline method. Then, the equivalent magnetic circuit modelled by the permeance method including airgap reluctance, which is a function of displacement, is obtained. The static thrust which is the derivative of coenergy is computed by Newton Raphson method at each dispacement. And, in order to investigate the characteristics of the DLPM, the thrust shows as a function of displacement, input current and air gap. The simulation resuls are compared with experimental ones obtained from the DLPM with 2 phase and 4 poles.

  • 3D Equivalent magnetic Circuit Network Method (EMCNM) is comparatively the easy way that analyzes 3D models of Electric Machine by using permeance as a distributive magnetic circuit parameter under the existing magnetic equivalent circuit method and Numerical Method. The existing 3D EMCNM could not correctly describe the shape of an analysis target when using rectangular shape element or fan shape element, so it made errors when calculating permeance. Therefore, this paper proposes the trapezoidal element contained rectangular element, fan-shape element, and quadrilateral element to express a shape. The proposed method in this research was confirmed as a useful and an accurate method through comparing with the analysis result of SRM model that is sufficiently guaranteed by 2D-Analysis.

  • This paper develops the advanced method for the calculation of the equivalent circuit parameters of induction motor. An Induction motor is magnetically coupled system. But the conventional motor (the permeance method) calculates the each component of parameters separately. And it highly depends on the experimental factors and experiences to compensate the errors due to the some assumptions. Rut the proposed method calculates the parameters fully from the results of 2 dimensional finite element analysis. So the complexity in geometry and the non linearity of induction motor can be considered. And the computational cost is reduced compared with the conventional field and circuit approach. The results are compared with parameters from the permeance method. And it is verified by the comparison with the experimental results.
