The pavement is generally used on the highways, local loads, roads for bicycle riding and neighborhood living facility such as parking lot, plaza, park and sports facilities. However, the pavement material that is usually used on the most of roads is impermeable asphalt-concrete and cement-concrete. If the pavement material is impermeable, many problems can be happened on the drainage facilities in the rainy season. Additionally, a lot of rainwater on the pavement surface cannot permeate to the underground and flows to the sewage ditch, stream and river, etc. If a lot of rainwater flows at once, the floods can be out along the streams and rivers. So, underground water can be exhausted. Micro organisms cannot live in the underground. Recently, many studies has been conducted to exploit the permeable concrete that has high performance permeability. However, it is required to develop the permeable concrete which has high strength and durability. In this study, permeable and strength tests were performed to investigate the permeable characteristics of porous concrete according to fine aggregate content and substitution ratio of blast furnace slag. In this test, crushed stones with 10~20 mm and sand with 5~10 mm were used as a coarse aggregate and a fine aggregate respectively. The substitution ratio of blast furnace slag to cement weight is 0 %, 15 %, and 30 %. The ratio of fine aggregate to total aggregate is 0 %, 18 %, and 35 %. As a result, permeability coefficient was decreased according to fine aggregate ratio of total aggregate. Compressive strength was also decreased according to substitution ratio of blast furnace slag.
Stormwater pollution is a major problem in urban areas. Pollutants like heavy metals and harmful chemicals in the runoff can endanger soil and ground water, when they are not sufficiently removed doting infiltration. Strength and infiltration capacity of porous concrete are the major problems that must be considered if permeable pavement system are demanded to be used in a drive way application. In this study, a series of compacted porous concrete mixtures and the system of pavement ate tested for the physical characteristics like compressive strength, flexural strength, unit weight, porosity, water permeability, and the purification capacity of contaminated water. The test results obtained indicate that the strength and infiltration capacity of porous concrete are strongly related to its matrix proportion and compaction energy and providing adequate filter layers underneath pavement surface course is one of the most important design considerations of permeable pavement system for pollution retention purpose.
This study is performed to evaluate the strength and permeable properties of soil-concrete. The results show that the highest compressive strength and bending strength of soil-concrete is achieved by 20% gravel, 20% excellent soil compound and 0.1% polypropylene fiber filled soil concrete. The coefficient of permeability is decreased with increase of the content of gravel and excellent soil compound, and increased with increase of the content of polypropylene fiber. Accordingly, soil concrete with polypropylene fiber will be improve the physical and mechanical properties of concrete.
Recently, the study for practical construction application of recycled aggregate concrete is actively being proceeded, on the purpose of technical development for recycling on the construction waste concrete occurred at the time of destruction of building construction by the rapid increase of building wastes and exhaustion of natural aggregates. This study is performed to develop the permeable polymer concrete using recycled coarse aggregate and blast furnace slag for application of structures needed permeability. At 7 days of curing, compressive strength, flexural strength, water permeability and flexural load are in the ragge of $18\~20MPa,\;6\~7MPa,\;4.6\times10^{-2}\~6.9\times10^{-2}cm/s$ and $20\~25kN$, respectively. It is concluded that the recycled aggregate can be used in the permeable polymer concretes.
This paper presents the experimental investigations on the compressive strength and permeation properties of geopolymer concrete prepared with low calcium fly ash as the primary binder activated with different percentage of Alccofine. The durability aspect was investigated by performing permeable voids and water absorption tests since permeability directly influences the durability properties. The test results show that Alccofine significantly improves the compressive strength and reduces the water permeability thus enhances the durability of geopolymer concrete at ambient curing regime which encourages the use of geopolymer concrete at ambient curing condition thus promising its use in general construction also.
In this paper, bending strength and permeability tests were conducted on concrete permeable blocks manufactured by recycling industrial by-products of oyster shell and blast furnace slag to measure and compare bending strength and permeability coefficient, and present experimental research results. To this end, a total of 54 specimens with a size of 200x200x60mm for surface layer and base layer were manufactured, and bending strength and permeability test were carried ourt accoridng to KS F 4419. Eighteen types of mixing designs were implemented by varying the mixing and replacement rates of oyster shells and blast furnace slag. As a result of the experiment, the higher the mixing ratio of oyster shell, the lower the bending strength and the permeability coefficient. Thereafter, a total of three permeable blocks with dimensions of 200x200x60mm were manufactured and subjected to bending strength and permeability tests according to KS F 4419. As a result of the test, the bending strength satisfies the standard of KS F 4419, and the permeability coefficient is 12 times higher than the standard of KS F 4419. It seems that the proper mixing of oyster shells and blast furnace slag increases the amount of air, and further research on durability and economic feasibility of materials used to manufacture permeable blocks is required.
