In this study, the qualitative characteristics of the permeability concrete by the changes in the grading of the recycled aggregates were analyzed and its results are as follows. First, the compressive strength represented the low range of strengths comparing with the typical concrete, and the high compressive strengths were represented as the aggregates with small grading of 2.5mm were used. The bending strengths did not satisfy the targeted range, and the permeability coefficient represented to be good when the aggregates with single grading greater than 5.0mm and the mixed aggregates of 5.0mm with 10.0mm.
This study investigated water vapor permeability of the 73 breathable fabrics for sports-wear according to the materials, finishing methods and fabric structural parameters. The water vapor permeability by KS K 0594 method of PET breathable fabric was superior than that of nylon one, in addition, water vapor permeability of coated or laminated breathable fabrics were higher than those of hot melt or dot laminated fabrics. The water vapor permeability of breathable fabric was dependent on the thickness, weight and density, which was consistent with measuring method. However, water vapor permeability according to materials and finishing method showed different results according to measuring method. The correlation coefficient of WVP of PET breathable fabrics between ISO and KS K measuring methods was -0.83 and the correlation coefficient of WVP of coated breathable fabrics was -0.72 and -0.71 for KS K and ASTM and -0.72 for KS K and ISO in hot melt laminated breathable fabrics. According to regression analysis, WVP of PET breathable fabric by both KSK and ISO measuring methods was highly dependent upon on the density and weight. In addition, WVP of hot melt laminated breathable fabric was highly dependent upon thickness, weight and density. Therefore, relevant measuring method for WVP of breathable fabrics has to be adopted to measure precise breathability.
This paper examined the water repellency, water proofing and water vapor permeability of twelve types of woven fabrics for sports wear clothing. Their physical properties were compared and discussed with the fabric structural parameters and surface finishing effect. A water repellent property of 100% was obtained in the coated or laminated water repellent finished fabrics; in addition, cotton/nylon breathable composite fabrics treated with a laminated finishing and with low fabric density showed a 90% water repellency. Water proofing fabric above 6,000 mm H2O hydraulic pressure was achieved by coated or laminated finishing; however, high density fabric or medium-level coated fabrics exhibited 100% water repellent and low water proofing characteristics. Superior water vapor permeability characteristics with good water repellency and proofing properties were achieved at the 2.5 layered low density and with 0.7 - 0.9 cover factor nylon fabrics treated with hydrophilic laminated finishing. The regression analysis for examining the effects of fabric structural parameters and surface finishing such as coating and laminating to the water vapor permeability exhibited a high determination coefficient of fabric structural parameters of 63.5%; in addition,, main factors among fabric structural parameters appeared to be cover factor and fabric thickness per weight. Coating and Laminating factors exhibited determination coefficient of water vapor permeability parameters of 36.5%.

The permeability of converter slag, replacing material of sand mat on improving soft clay foundation, was evaluated in the laboratory as well as in situ test. Effects of grain size, flow water time and aging were investigated using sea and fresh water Converter slag which has a grain size less than 10mm were submerged with fresh water and sea water. In fresh water, the coefficients of permeability in samples A and B were measured as 4.50${\times}$10$^{-2}$ cm per second and 1.20${\times}$10$^{-1}$ cm per second, respectively while as 1.88$\times$10$^{-2}$ cm per second and 3.86$\times$10$^{-1}$ cm per second in sea water. The condition of turbulent flow may exit and was experimentally certified based on the relationship of hydraulic gradient and seepage velocity. After 180 days in using sea water, the coefficients of permeability of samples A and B decreased ten times smaller than those initial values, and after that time continually decreased as for till 360 days. Finally, filling with voids in high-calcium quicklime(CaO) may result in the reduction of coefficient of permeability. In-situ coefficient of permeability however was Practically satisfactory.
During EPB shield tunnelling, construction speed and safety are severely affected by spewing. In this study, a theoretical seepage model is established to capture of the effects of screw conveyor geometry and turbulent flow on spewing. Experimental test results are used to verify the proposed theoretical seepage model. It is found that the seepage is greatly affected by the length of screw conveyor and soil permeability. The proposed model can increase the screw conveyor length and reduce soil discharge sections simultaneously, the permeability of treated muck thus decreases by one order of magnitude. By using the proposed theoretical seepage model, the criterion of critical soil permeability used to identify spewing is proposed. When the water head applied at tunnel face reaches 40 m and 50 m, the critical permeability coefficients of treated muck should be less than 10-5 m/s and 10-6 m/s to avoid spewing. For a given permeability coefficient of soil, the water flow rate is overestimated if structural characteristics of screw conveyor is not considered. Consequently, the occurrence of spewing is greatly overestimated, which increases construction cost substantially.

Porous concrete is defined as d type of concrete for which the fine aggregate component the matrix is entirely omitted. Although it had been used as a building material in Europe for over 60 years, low strength and high void ratio limited its application in the past. In recent years, however high void ratio of concrete has been recognized again and can be used as an environmental conscious material, for example, parking lots, draining light-traffic-volume pavements and as sea water purifying material. The result of an experiment on the void ratio of fiber reinforced porous concrete and its influence on the compressive strength and permeability relationship of concrete are reported in this paper. One-sized coarse aggregate of 5-10mm, and three absolute content of fiber(steel fiber, polyprophylen fiber) were used. The result of measured void ratio, permeability coefficient and compressive strength show a small variation. Void ratio, permeability coefficient and compressive strength of fiber reinforced porous concrete depend on contents of fiber and absolute volume ratios of paste to aggregate.
In order to characterize hydraulic property dependant on join roughness in rock mass, this study computed permeability coefficients on each range of joint roughness coefficient (JRC) suggested by Barton(1976). For a quantitative analysis of roughness components spectral analysis using the fast fourier transform was performed to select effective frequencies on each PC range. The results of spectral analyses show that low ranges of the JRC are mainly composed of low frequency domain, while high ranges of the JRC have dominant components at high frequency domain. The inverse Fourier transform made it possible to generate joint models of each JRC range using the effective frequencies of roughness spectrum. The homogenization analysis was applied to calculate permeability coefficient at homogeneous microscale, and then, computes a homogenized permeability coefficient (C-permeability coefficient) at macro scale. Therefore, it is possible to analyze accurate characteristics of permeability reflected with local effect of facture geometry. According to the calculation results, permeability coefficients were distributed between $10^{-3}m/sec\;and\;10^{-4}/sec$. In cases of sheared joint models permeability coefficients were plotted between $10^{-4}m/sec\;and\;10^{-5}/sec$, showing irregular distribution of permeability coefficients on each IRC range. The differences of permeability coefficients for the same aperture models or for the sheared joint models indicate that changes of roughness pattern influence on permeability coefficients. Therefore, the effect of joint roughness should be considered to characterize hydraulic properties in rock joints.
This study evaluates the permeability of cement-based composites, which are a mix of polyolefin fibers and silica fume. Test results indicate that permeability increases as the water/cementitious ratio increases. Silica fume in cement-based composites produced hydrated calcium silicate and filled the pores. However, permeability decreased as the addition of silica fume increased. Specimens containing polyolefin fibers also provided higher permeability resistance. The polyolefin fiber length did not have a significant effect on permeability. The decrease in the permeability is mainly due to the addition of silica fume and lower water/cementitious ratio. Addition of fibers marginally decreases the permeability. Incorporating polyolefin fiber and silica fume in composites achieved more significant decreases in permeability. The correlated test results reveal the interrelationship between them.

The matching condition at a perforated wall with vertical slits involves the permeability parameter, which can be calculated by two different methods. One expresses the permeability parameter in terms of energy dissipation coefficient and jet length at the perforated wall, being advantageous in that all the related variables are known, but it gives wrong result in the limit of long waves. The other expresses the permeability parameter in terms of friction coefficient and inertia coefficient, giving correct result from short to long waves, but the friction coefficient should be determined on the basis of a best fit between measured and predicted values of such hydrodynamic coefficients as reflection and transmission coefficients. In the present study, an empirical formula for the friction coefficient is proposed in terms of known variables, i.e., the porosity and thickness of the perforated wall and the water depth. This enables direct estimation of the friction coefficient without invoking a best fit procedure. To obtain the empirical formula, hydraulic experiments are carried out, the results of which are used along with other researchers' results. The proposed formula is used to predict the reflection and transmission coefficients of a curtain-wall-pile breakwater, the upper part of which is a curtain wall and the lower part consisting of a perforated wall with vertical slits. The concurrence between the experimental data and calculated results is good, verifying the appropriateness of the proposed formula.
The permeability coefficient is an essential parameter for the study of seepage flow in fractured rock mass. This paper discusses the feasibility and application value of using readily available RQD (rock quality index) data to estimate mine water inflow and grouting quantity. Firstly, the influence of different fracture frequencies on permeability in a unit area was explored by combining numerical simulation and experiment, and the relationship between fracture frequencies and pressure and flow velocity at the monitoring point in fractured rock mass was obtained. Then, the stochastic function generation program was used to establish the flow analysis model in fractured rock mass to explore the relationship between flow velocity, pressure and analyze the universal law between fracture frequency and permeability. The concepts of fracture width and connectivity are introduced to modify the permeability calculation formula and grouting formula. Finally, based on the on-site grouting water control example, the rock mass quality index is used to estimate the mine water inflow and the grouting quantity. The results show that it is feasible to estimate the fracture frequency and then calculate the permeability coefficient by RQD. The relationship between fracture frequency and RQD is in accordance with exponential function, and the relationship between structure surface frequency and permeability is also in accordance with exponential function. The calculation results are in good agreement with the field monitoring results, which verifies the rationality of the calculation method. The relationship between the rock mass RQD index and the rock mass permeability established in this paper can be used to invert the mechanical parameters of the rock mass or to judge the permeability and safety of the rock mass by using the mechanical parameters of the rock mass, which is of great significance to the prediction of mine water inflow and the safety evaluation of water inrush disaster management.
