  • Recently, we have developed a linear brushless DC motor(LBLDCM) with high speed and precise position control performance to apply it to the semiconductor assembly and inspection machinery. It is composed of double side alignment by two armature-stator pairs and each pair is consist of a moving armature with 8 poles by 3 phase coils and a stator with rare earth permanent magnet (Nd-Fe-B) arrays. Through the thrust force analysis on a simplified and whole model of the suggested LBLDCM by an Electromagnetic FEM solver, skew angle of magnet arrays to reduce the thrust force ripple and the winding conditions of the armature is designed. From experimental results, the user's requirements was satisfied and we confirmed distinctly that the repeatable accuracy less than a micron of the linear motion can be obtained at high speed by the developed LBLDCM. This is owing to directly drive the work without the gear train.

  • The article presents the principle of a relatively small device that makes it possible to generate a strong magnetic field in an air gap without electrical energy consumption. It describes the implemented design of this device, the method of the assembly of opposing linear arrays from two NdFeB magnet layers, its advantages, the possible ways of increasing the parameters further and its application in various areas.

  • Eddy Current is one of ways to make heat using rotational energy of wind turbine rotor. Four difference arrays of permanent magnets around rotor surface are used to generate heat using eddy current in this study. For the evaluation of heating performance, new test rig is prepared to measure water flow and temperatures in the inlet and outlet of the eddy current heat generator. In the test, torque and rotational speed are also measured in the motor driven system, and evaluated if the torque is matched with it of wind turbine rotor or not. It will be shown that the eddy current heat generator can be applied to real urban wind energy systems in this study.

  • Machining operations require removal of chips to keep the coolant clean and fresh throughout the operation time. In this study, microchip removal equipment was developed using AutoCAD and CATIA programs for 3D modeling and 2D draft. In addition, the flow analysis and electromagnetic field analysis of the equipment were performed using the COMSOL Multiphysics program. The flow design of the coolant oil tank was realized on the basis of fluid analysis results. Further, on the basis of magnetic density analysis, a conveyer was designed for effectively removing metal microchips in the tank by using arrays of neodymium permanent magnets.

  • Permanent magnetic actuators (P.M.A.s) are widely used to drive medium-voltage-class vacuum circuit breakers (V.C.B.s). In this paper, a method for design optimization of a P.M.A. for V.C.B.s is discussed. An optimal design process employing the response surface method (R.S.M.) is proposed. In order to calculate electromagnetic and mechanical dynamic characteristics, an initial P.M.A. model is subjected to numerical analysis using finite element analysis (F.E.A.), which is validated by comparing the calculated dynamic characteristics of the initial P.M.A. model with no-load test results. Using tables of mixed orthogonal arrays and the R.S.M., the initial P.M.A. model is optimized to minimize the weight of the permanent magnet (P.M.) and to improve the dynamic characteristics. Finally, the dynamic characteristics of the optimally designed P.M.A. are compared to those of the initially designed P.M.A.

  • This paper deals with a dynamic analysis and a position control for air-core type linear synchronous motor with Halbach array (HA) permanent magnet mover. The primary coils are designed to be air-cored, so the HA-PMLSM don't exist the detent force. The secondary HA array of PMs does not require any ferro-magnetic yoke and excites stronger magnetic flux density and closer to the sinusoids than a conventional PM array.

  • In this paper, a novel planar type magnetic levitation system without other assistant devices is proposed and it can move with 6 degree of freedom (X, Y, Z, ${\theta}_X$, ${\theta}_Y$, ${\theta}_Z$) in wafer size as well as in nano scale positioning. The mover is composed with 2-D Halbach permanent magnet array and the stator is composed with $10{\times}10$ coil arrays. It was composed in laboratory and tested with short stroke (4 [mm]) and long stroke (160 [mm])movements. The errors of short movement test is [X, Y, Z, ${\theta}_X$, ${\theta}_Y$, ${\theta}_Z$]${\leq}$ [${\pm}200nm$, ${\pm}200nm$, ${\pm}250nm$, ${\pm}3urad$, ${\pm}2urad$, ${\pm}1urad$]The errors of long stroke movement test is [X, Y, Z, ${\theta}_X$, ${\theta}_Y$, ${\theta}_Z$]${\leq}$ [${\pm}200nm$, ${\pm}200nm$, ${\pm}250nm$, ${\pm}1.5urad$, ${\pm}2urad$, ${\pm}0.5urad$].

  • Since it is difficult to extract a high flux ion beam directly at an energy of hyperthermal range ($1{\sim}100\;eV$), especially, lower than 50 eV, the ions should be neutralized into neutral particles and extracted as a neutral beam. A plasma source required to generate and efficiently transport high flux hyperthermal neutral beams should be easily scaled up and produce a high ion density (${\ge}10^{11}\;cm^{-3}$) even at a low working pressure (${\le}$ 0.3 mTorr). It is suggested that the required plasma source can be realized by Electron Cyclotron Resonance (ECR) plasmas with diverse magnetic field configurations of permanent magnets such as a planar ECR plasma source with magnetron field configuration and cylindrical one with axial magnetic fields produced by permanent magnet arrays around chamber wall. In both case of the ECR sources, the electron confinement is based on the simple mirror field structure and efficiently enhanced by electron drifts for producing the high density plasma even at the low pressure.
