Shape anisotropy and magnetic properties of Co/Ni anti-dot arrays

  • Recently, patterned magnetic films and elements attract a wide interest due to their technological potentials in ultrahigh-density magnetic recording and spintronic devices. Among those patterned magnetic structures, magnetic anti-dot patterning induces a strong shape anisotropy in the film, which can control the magnetic properties such as coercivity, permeability, magnetization reversal process, and magneto-resistance. While majority of the previous works have been concentrated on anti-dot arrays with a single magnetic layer, there has been little work on multilayered anti-dot arrays. In this work, we report on study of the magnetic properties of bilayered anti-dot system consisting of upper perforated Co layer of 40 nm and lower continuous Ni layer of 5 nm thick, fabricated by photolithography and wet-etching processes. The magnetic hysteresis (M-H) loops were measured with a superconducting-quantum-interference-device (SQUID) magnetometer (Quantum Design: MPMS). For comparison, investigations on continuous Co thin film and single-layer Co anti-dot arrays were also performed. The magnetic-domain configuration has been measured by using a magnetic force microscope (PSIA: XE-100) equipped with magnetic tips (Nanosensors). An external electromagnet was employed while obtaining the MFM images. The MFM images revealed well-defined periodic domain networks which arise owing to the anisotropies such as magnetic uniaxial anisotropy, configurational anisotropy, etc. The inclusion of holes in a uniform magnetic film and the insertion of a uniform thin Ni layer, drastically affected the coercivity as compared with single Co anti-dot array, without severely affecting the saturation magnetization ($M_s$). The observed changes in the magnetic properties are closely related to the patterning that hinders the domain-wall motion as well as to the magneto-anisotropic bilayer structure.

배경 모델 갱신을 통한 코드북 기반의 전배경 분할 (Codebook-Based Foreground-Background Segmentation with Background Model Updating)

  • 최근 코드북 기반의 전 배경 분리 알고리즘에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 코드북은 입력 영상 시퀀스로부터 화소당 하나씩 만들어 지는데, 코드북 내의 각 코드워드는 동일 위치의 훈련 화소들을 대상으로 양자화를 수행한 클러스터 대표 벡터이다. 일반적인 코드북 기반 방법들은 초기 배경 모델 생성을 위하여 긴 시간동안 훈련 샘플들의 학습 과정을 거친다. 본 논문에서는 초기 몇 장의 프레임으로 부터 간단한 중위수 연산을 통하여 초기 배경 모델을 생성하고, 시간의 흐름에 따라 변화된 배경 정보를 포함할 수 있도록 코드워드의 사용 빈도수에 기반하여 배경 모델을 갱신한다. 제안한 알고리즘을 OpenCV 3.0과 연동하여 C언어로 구현하여 몇 개의 PETS2009 데이터에 적용 실험하였다. 해당 데이터는 준-주기적 움직임을 갖는 영상 시퀀스, 이동 물체의 일시 정지 등의 시나리오를 포함하고 있다. 실험을 통하여 제안한 방식이 GMM 알고리즘, 표준 코드북 알고리즘에 비하여 우수한 성능을 나타내고 있음을 확인하였다.

부산 시내 중.고등학교 축구선수의 운동손상에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Sports Injuries for Middle and High School Football Players in Pusan)

  • Recently sports injuries are increasing due to the development of sports leisure industries as well as the increase of exercising population, and the study for sports injuries is needed more than before. Then the author studied the reasons for injuries, incidence rate, sites and sorts of sports injuries for the middle and high school football players during one year period from Jan. to Dec. 1994. The study subjects were 319 middle and high school players in Pusan and the method was questionnaire method. The results were as follows; 1. The average injury rate due to football play was 3.3 times per person for the 319 subjects during the last one year, and it was highest in goalkeeper as 4.6 times by position. 2. 68 % of the subjects did not receive periodic health examination, 74.9 % wore body protectors. The sports injuries due to football play occurred most commonly in soil play-ground(79.6 %), during training(52.3 %), and in winter time(33.7 %). 3. The commonly occurred injuries by motion were coalition(39.2 %), tackle(12.9 %), dribble (11.4 %) in order; those by sorts were contusion(34.4 %), sprain (32.9 %), spasm(9.0 %) ; and those by body portions lower extremities(82 %), trunk(17.6 %), upper extremities(12.5 %). 4. The frequently used treatment area was home care as in 42.7 % ; treatment methods were physical therapy, acupuncture/moxacautery, rest, operation in order; choices of treatment method were recommendation by coach/manager, and that by medical professional was the lowest as in 2.2 %. 5. If sports injury occurred during play, coach or manager let the players take rest in 56.2 %, but emergent management by medical professional was done only in 1.9 %. The return to play was decided mostly by the player himself(52.8 %), but that decided by a doctor was only in 1.0 %. In conclusion, to lessen the sports injuries due to football play, annual physical check-up, strengthening of play rules, improvement of playground, conditioning exercise, regulation of body protectors, and preventive training for expected injuries behaviors should be done and the decision to return to play and emergent management should be done by a medical professional as well. 하전 입자의 비구형 응집 성장에 대한 수치적 연구 (Numerical Simulation far the Non-Spherical Aggregation of Charged Particles)

  • A numerical technique for simulating the aggregation of charged particles was presented with a Brownian dynamic simulation in the free molecular regime. The Langevin equation was used for tracking each particle making up an aggregate. A periodic boundary condition was used for calculation of the aggregation process in each cell with 500 primary particles of 16 nm in diameter. We considered the thermal force and the electrostatic force for the calculation of the particle motion. The electrostatic force on a particle in the simulation cell was considered as a sum of electrostatic forces from other particles in the original cell and its replicate cells. We assumed that the electric charges accumulated on an aggregate were located on its center of mass, and aggregates were only charged with pre-charged primary particles. The morphological shape of aggregates was described in terms of the fractal dimension. In the simulation, the fractal dimension for the uncharged aggregate was D$\_$f/ = 1.761. The fractal dimension changed slightly for the various amounts of bipolar charge. However, in case of unipolar charge, the fractal dimension decreased from 1.641 to 1.537 with the increase of the average number of charges on the particles from 0.2 to 0.3 in initial states. In the bipolar charge state, the average sizes of aggregates were larger than that of the uncharged state in the early and middle stages of aggregation process, but were almost the same as the case of the uncharged state in the final stage. On the other hand, in the unipolar charge state, the average size of aggregates and the dispersion of particle volume decreased with the increasing of the charge quantities.

The Influence of Fixation Rigidity on Intervertebral Joints - An Experimental Comparison between a Rigid and a Flexible System

  • Objective: Spinal instrumentation without fusion often fails due to biological failure of intervertebral joints (spontaneous fusion, degeneration, etc). The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of fixation rigidity on viability of intervertebral joints. Methods: Twenty pigs in growing period were subjected to posterior segmental fixation. Twelve were fixed with a rigid fixation system(RF) while eight were fixed with a flexible unconstrained implant(FF). At the time of the surgery, a scoliosis was created to monitor fixation adequacy. The pigs were subjected to periodic radiological examinations and 12pigs (six in RF, six in FF) were euthanized at 12-18months postoperatively for analysis. Results: The initial scoliotic curve was reduced from $31{\pm}5^{\circ}$ to $27{\pm}8^{\circ}$ in RF group (p=0.37) and from $19{\pm}4^{\circ}$ to $17{\pm}5^{\circ}$ in FF group (p=0.21). Although severe disc degeneration and spontaneous fusion of facet joints were observed in RF group, disc heights of FF group were well maintained without major signs of degeneration. Conclusion: The viability of the intervertebral joints depends on motion spinal fixation. Systems allowing intervertebral micromotion may preserve the viability of intervertebral discs and the facet joint articular cartilages while maintaining a reasonably stable fixation.

복합진자 모형의 뉴튼.오일러 알고리즘 비교 (Comparison of Newton's and Euler's Algorithm in a Compound Pendulum)

  • The Primary type of swinging motion in human movement is that which is characteristic of a pendulum. The two types of pendulums are identified as simple and compound. A simple pendulum consist of a small body suspended by a relatively long cord. Its total mass is contained within the bob. The cord is not considered to have mass. A compound pendulum, on the other hand, is any pendulum such as the human body swinging by hands from a horizontal bar. Therefore a compound pendulum depicts important motions that are harmonic, periodic, and oscillatory. In this paper one discusses and compares two algorithms of Newton's method(F = m a) and Euler's method (M = $I{\times}{\alpha}$) in compound pendulum. Through exercise model such as human body with weight(m = 50 kg), body length(L = 1.5m), and center of gravity ($L_c$ = 0.4119L) from proximal end swinging by hands from a horizontal bar, one finds kinematic variables(angle displacement / velocity / acceleration), and simulates kinematic variables by changing body lengths and body mass. BSP by Clauser et al.(1969) & Chandler et al.(1975) is used to find moment of inertia of the compound pendulum. The radius of gyration about center of gravity (CoG) is $k_c\;=\;K_c{\times}L$ (단, k= radius of gyration, K= radius of gyration /segment length), and then moment of inertia about center of gravity(CoG) becomes $I_c\;=\;m\;k_c^2$. Finally, moment of inertia about Z-axis by parallel theorem becomes $I_o\;=\;I_c\;+\;m\;k^2$. The two-order ordinary differential equations of models are solved by ND function of numeric analysis method in Mathematica5.1. The results are as follows; First, The complexity of Newton's method is much more complex than that of Euler's method Second, one could be find kinematic variables according to changing body lengths(L = 1.3 / 1.7 m) and periods are increased by body length increment(L = 1.3 / 1.5 / 1.7 m). Third, one could be find that periods are not changing by means of changing mass(m = 50 / 55 / 60 kg). Conclusively, one is intended to meditate the possibility of applying a compound pendulum to sports(balling, golf, gymnastics and so on) necessary swinging motions. Further improvements to the study could be to apply Euler's method to real motions and one would be able to develop the simulator.

  • 본 논문에서는 사용자가 2차원 또는 3차원 상에서 필기를 하는 경우의 관성치를 측정할 수 있는 가속도계와 각속도계를 장착한 펜형 입력 장치를 소개한다. 각속도계의 측정치를 한 번 적분해 시스템의 자세를 구하며 이는 가속도에 포함되어 있는 중력 가속도 성분을 제거하는 데 사용된다. 시스템의 위치는 보정된 가속도를 두 번 적분해 구한다. 이러한 원리는 관성 항법 시스템에서 보편적으로 사용되는 것이다. 그러나 필기 궤적을 복원하기 위해 사용되는 이중 적분 과정으로 인해 위치 측정치의 정확도는 시간이 지남에 따라 심각하게 떨어진다. 이러한 문제는 관성 항법 시스템에 있어 일반적인 경우이며 통상 외부의 기준 신호나 기타 정보를 이용한 주기적 또는 비주기적인 시스템의 교정을 통해 해결된다. 본 논문에서는 위치 및 속도의 보정은 온라인과 오프라인 교정 과정을 통해 이루어진다. 온라인 교정 과정에서는 칼만 필터를 이용한 보상 필터 기법을 사용한다. 오프라인 교정 과정에서는 최종적인 시스템의 항법 오차의 상수 성분을 속도 정보와 움직임 검지 알고리듬을 통해 제거한다. 실제 실험을 통해 제안된 시스템의 유용성과 효용성을 보인다.

소화근처 헵탄 풀화재의 화염불안정성 (Flame Instability in Heptane Pool Fires Near Extinction)

  • 액체연료를 사용하는 풀화재에서 화염불안정성에 대하여 산화제 유속변화와 농도변화의 효과를 알아보기 위해 컵버너 실험을 수행하였다. 연료는 헵탄을 사용하였고, 산화제는 공기에 질소와 이산화탄소를 희석하였다. 소화근처에서 축방향 및 화염 밑면에서 두 가지 형태의 대표적인 불안정성이 관찰되었다. 화염 밑면에서 발생되는 불안정성은 셀, 스윙, 회전 모드로 특성화 할 수 있고, 산화제의 유속이 증가할수록 모든 불활성 기체에서 셀, 스윙 모드에서 회전모드로 천이하였다. 이러한 화염밑면 불안정성에 영향을 미치는 변수들을 파악하기 위하여 초기혼합률, Le 수, 단열화염온도에 대해서도 함께 조사되었다. 이 중 Le 수가 불안정성 모드와 가장 큰 상관관계를 보이고 있지만 보다 정확한 관계를 규명하기 위해서는 더 많은 실험조건에서의 결과가 요구된다. 또한, 소화농도근처의 화염에서는 유속이 작거나 큰 경우에는 축방향 주기적인 진동불안정성이 나타나지 않고, 적절한 산화제 속도 영역에서만 관찰된다. 이는 작은 유속에서는 증발하는 연료속도가 임계유속이하이며, 큰 유속에서는 반응중인 연료유속과 산화제 유속이 유사하기 때문으로 판단된다.

운동선수의 만성 발목관절 불안정성에서 교량형 봉합술을 이용한 변형 Brostrom 술식 후의 기능평가 (Functional Evaluation after Modified Brostrom Procedure with Suture Bridge Technique for Chronic Ankle Instability in Athletes)

  • Purpose: Ligament reattachment technique using a suture anchor appears to show satisfactory functional outcomes and mechanical stability compared with conventional bone tunnel technique. This study was prospectively conducted in order to evaluate functional outcomes of modified Brostrom procedures using the suture bridge technique for chronic ankle instability in athletes. Materials and Methods: Twenty eight athletes under 30 years of age were followed for more than two years after undergoing the modified Brostrom procedure using the suture bridge technique. Functional evaluation consisted of the foot and ankle outcome score (FAOS), foot and ankle ability measure (FAAM) score. Range of motion and time to return to exercise were evaluated using a periodic questionnaire. Talar tilt angle and anterior talar translation were measured through stress radiographs for evaluation of mechanical stability. Results: FAOS improved significantly from preoperative mean 59.4 points to 91.4 points (p<0.001). Daily living and sport activity scores of FAAM improved significantly from preoperative mean 50.5, 32.5 points to 94.8, 87.3 points, respectively (p<0.001). Talar tilt angle and anterior talar translation improved significantly from preoperative mean $16.8^{\circ}$, 13.5 mm to $4.2^{\circ}$, 4.1 mm at final follow-up (p<0.001). Times to return to exercise were as follows: mean 10.2 weeks in jogging, 15.4 weeks in spurt running, 13.1 weeks in jumping, 11.5 weeks in walking on uneven ground, 9.1 weeks in standing on one leg, 7.2 weeks in tip-toeing gait, 8.4 weeks in squatting, and 10.6 weeks in descending stairs. Conclusion: Modified Brostrom procedure using the suture bridge technique showed satisfactory functional outcomes for chronic ankle instability in athletes. Optimal indication and cost-effectiveness of the suture bridge technique will be studied in the future.
