Psychological stress is a growing issue in work stress research because work stressors are closely related to depression; and depression, in turn, decreases organizational effectiveness. Considering such causal relationships of work stress, a comprehensive source to control work stress is needed for worksite mental well-being. This study was conducted to identify how social support at work controlled work stress and which characteristics of social support were effective on work stress reduction. The study participants were 240 workers employed in a public hospital in Georgia, U.S.A self-administered survey was given to employees with their pay slips, and followed by a hospital wide voice reminder for 7 days. Surveys were conducted over a 20-day period. The questionnaires asked about job demands, job control, social support at work, depression, job performance, absenteeism, and demographics. The social support construct was structured on the source of support at work and the kinds of support were provided. Statistical analyses were conducted in the structural equation modeling approach. Social support at work was directly related to high job control, low depression, and high job performance. High score of social support at work were significantly associated with high job control, low depressive symptoms, and high job performance. By source of support, only organizational support was positively related to high job control. Organizational support was more effective than supervisor and coworker support. Any stressors and their outcomes were not differenciated by the kinds of support. This result indicated that job control was influenced more by the source of support than the kinds of support provided at work; and the most efficient source of support was the organization. Organizational support was a strong factor in improving workers" perceived controllability of their jobs from a work stress reduction perspective.tive.
The purpose of this study was to identity the level of burden, social support and quality of life of the subjects. The subjects of this study were 68 mothers of nephrotic syndrome patients whose children were hospitalized in one pediatric ward of the University Hospital in Seoul. The data was collected using questionnaires, and the period of the data collection was from Nov. 15 to Dec. 31, 1999. The instruments used for this study were the Burden Measurement Instrument developed by Montgomery et. al(1985), social support measurement instrument designed Brandt an Weinert(1978) and Quality of life scale designed by Ro,Yoo JA(1988). The data analysis was done by SPSS, t-test, ANOVA and the Pearson correlation coefficient. The results of were as follows. 1. The level of burden showed a mean score of 54.47, the level of social support, a mean score of 86.00 and the level quality of life, a mean score of 140.20. 2. The level of burden differed according to mother's religion, patient's purpose for admission and perceived patient's condition by mothers. 3. The level of social support and the level of quality of life differed according to perceived patient's condition by mothers. 4. There was a negative correlation between burden and social support(r=-.348, p<.001). Also, burden was negatively related with quality of life(r=-3.97, p<.001). Social support was positively related with quality of life(r=.064, p<.001).
Purpose: The purposes were to survey the level of work stress, social support, burnout of insurance review nurses and to measure the main & buffering effect of perceived social support on burnout. Method: The samples were 285 insurance review nurses who were registered in Review Nurses Association of Korea at the period of 25 July and 12 August in 2005. Data were analyzed by using of t-test, Pearson's correlation, stepwise multiple regression, two-way ANOVA. Results: There were significant differences of burnout according to the work experience, position, and work satisfaction of insurance review nurses. Among the variables explaining the level of burnout of review nurses, the most significant variable was work stress, followed by current work satisfaction, social support, position and total variance explained was 40.8%. For the analysis of the buffering effects of perceived social support on work stress and burnout, the interaction between work stress and social support was not significant. Conclusions: It is necessary to construct the social support system and to reduce the work stress in order to reduce the level of the burnout of insurance review nurses.
Purpose: The principal objective of this study was to assess correlations among the self-efficacy, social support networks, and health behavior of undergraduate students. Methods: The data were collected via questionnaires that investigated self- efficacy, social support networks, health behaviors, health-related factors, and general characteristics. A total of 310 subjects were selected and evaluated for a 3-week period. The data of 300 subjects were analyzed using descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and correlation, after 10 questionnaires had been excluded due to incomplete data. Results: We noted significant differences and impacts on self-efficacy according to the grade, perceived health status, and BMI. Social support networks differed significantly according to dwelling type and pocket money. Health behavior differed depending on the gender, major, dwelling type, religion, health status, and BMI. We noted a significant positive correlation between self-efficacy & social support networks, and between social support networks & health behavior, but we noted no significant correlation between self-efficacy & health behavior. Conclusion: Health care providers should focus on self-efficacy and social support networks in order to prevent bad health behavior among undergraduates.
The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of satisfaction with the marriage support policy on marriage intention among unmarried employed men and women. The study subjects included 300 unmarried working men and women aged over 30 years residing in the Seoul metropolitan area. First, according to the analysis of the subjects' overall tendency towards satisfaction with the marriage support policy and towards marriage intention, the marriage support policy gained the highest level of support in relation to housing for newlywed couples, which scored 3.29 (sd=.93), followed by improvements in corporate and family culture for the purposes of work-family compatibility at 3.24 (sd=.95), wedding loans at 3.18 (sd=1.01), and the paid leave system for marriage preparation at 3.12 (sd=.88). These variables scored slightly higher than the median 3 points. Conversely, satisfaction with the availability of marriage-related information and the provision of opportunities for dating scored 2.65 (sd=.88) and 2.78 (sd=.80), respectively, both of which were slightly lower than the median of 3. The overall mean score for satisfaction with the marriage support policy was 3.03 (sd=.95), which was slightly higher than the median of 3. In regards to marriage intention, the score was 3.32 (sd=1.15) points out of a perfect score of 5, which was slightly higher than the median. This indicated a slightly higher level in terms of the subjects' intention to marry. Second, a hierarchical regression analysis was performed to identify the effect of satisfaction with the marriage support policy on marriage intention among unmarried employed adults. Sociodemographic variables were entered as control variables in the regression at the first stage, and variables relating to satisfaction in a family-friendly social environment were entered at the second stage. When gender, age, educational level, monthly income, period of employment, working hours, and type of employment were inserted in the first stage of regression as control variables, gender, monthly income, period of employment, and type of employment were found to have a significant effect on marriage intention. Marriage intention was found to be greater in unmarried men with higher monthly incomes and longer periods spent working, and in unmarried working men and women engaged in tenured employment work. When variables relating to satisfaction with the marriage support policy were inserted in the second stage of regression, gender, monthly income, type of employment, and satisfaction with direct marriage support had significant effects on marriage intention. It was found that marriage intention was greater in unmarried men whose monthly income was higher, whose employment type was tenured work, and who showed greater satisfaction with direct marriage support.
This study was aimed at (1) investigating expectant mothers' prenatal attachment according to variables (age, gestational weeks, perceived health condition, anticipating the gender of the fetus, marriage duration, and parity), (2) analyzing correlations among their prenatal attachment, spousal support, and parenting efficacy, and (3) examining the role of prenatal attachment as a mediator between spousal support and parenting efficacy. For this purpose, 221 expectant mothers living in Seoul completed a 55-item survey. The collected data were analyzed by t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and regression analyses. The findings of this study were as follows. First, among the variables, gestational weeks, perceived health condition, marriage duration, and parity showed significant differences in the scores for the overall prenatal attachment and subordinate factors. Second, there were positive correlations between the expectant mothers' prenatal attachment and spousal support and between their prenatal attachment and parenting efficacy. Third, the expectant mothers' prenatal attachment proved to mediate between spousal support and parenting efficacy. These findings shed light on the significance of prenatal attachment and spousal support during the pregnancy period; therefore, it is essential to develop education programs for expecting parents to enhance prenatal attachment and spousal support and to conduct follow-up studies to verify the effectiveness of the programs.
Although the weapon systems are becoming more diverse and complex, they are progressing in a short development period and a longer test and evaluation period. The more difficult the given environment is, the more efforts and performance of quantitative target values can be made by development agencies to carry out stable projects. However, these target values of the Integrated Logistics Support are not specified in the requirements and being set during the system development phase. In this paper, application of MOEs, MOPs and TPMs for ILS are presented and provided the basis for carrying out systematic Verification & Validation activities. As a result that MOEs of the ILS were chosen as Availability and MOPs as Mission Reliability, Logistics Reliability, Maintainability and Supportability and TPMs as MTBF, MTBCF, MTTR and so on. In particular, it is appropriate tailoring and apply the TPMs considering the cost, schedule, scope of work and characteristics of the project.
This paper presents an embodiment of design integration framework corresponding to changes in the latest manufacturing environment. The embodied system is named by 'WEB-KBE System' because it supports a product design with a KBE technique based on web environment. The final purpose of the work is to implement a web-based integration design environment with a KBE technique to support non-skillful designers. The framework of the system Is designed to support necessary items in user-centric design environment. Two case studies were applied to the WEB-KBE system to evaluate the efficiency, flexibility, extensibility, and reusability of the system. The examples are [1] CART integration design environment construction and (2) Exhaust Duct Saddle Support integration design environment construction. In the former case, it took a period of 8 months for modeling and implementation of the WEB-KBE prototype system. However, with the high extensibility and reusability of WEB-KBE system, the second case required only a period of one month for modeling and implementation of the system. We conclude that the presented WEB-KBE system can bring fair effects on implementing a knowledge based design environment in aspect of time and expense.
The aim of this study is to present the basic reference data of age and specific gait parameters for Parkinson's Disease Patients. The basic gait parameters were extracted from 5 patients, 5 men and 65 years of age using VICON 512 Motion Analyzer. The temporal gait parameters and kinematic parameters is data of Parkinson's Disease Patients. The results were as follows; 1. The cadence, velocity, stride length decreased and single limb support period, double limb support period increased than normal adult in the temporal parameters. 2. The mean angles of joint pelvic tilt and hip, knee, ankle joint decreased than normal adult at kinematic characteristics on sagittal plane. 3. The mean angles of joint pelvic tilt and hip, knee joint has no difference than normal adult at kinematic characteristics on coronal plane. 4. The mean angles of joint pelvic tilt, hip joint no difference and internal, external rotation in ankle joint significantly decreased than normal adult at kinematic characteristics on transverse plane.
This research is a case study based on face-to-face interviews with eighteen Mongolian marriage-based immigrants. The purpose of the study is to understand Mongolian family living in general and the Mongolian immigrants' family living in Korea in order to help the immigrants in their initial settlement period and the crossculture families by providing them with the information on Mongolian family living. Based on the findings of the study, marriage-based immigrants need a great deal of support for Korean language and adaptation to the new life style during their initial settlement period. Meanwhile, the immigrants that have lived in Korea more than three years can benefit from differentiated types of support such as career reinforcement programs or empowerment programs. Also, their children should be encouraged to become bilingual in their mother's native language with appropriate education and support system, and they will be able to become a great asset to our society in the future.
