  • This study is to examine closely the frame structure of buildings in the royal palace of Josen dynasty, focused on inner buildings of Changgyeonggung(昌慶宮) which is built in 19th century, through considering the member size of main structure and analyzing the slope of a rafter. The plans of a size on main member are as follows ; firstly, a length of the perimeter column was accorded with Gunggwolji(宮闕誌) and the planning size of interior column was shown to a Chon(a Korean inch, 寸) unit. The slope of long common rafter that is formed between the perimeter and interior columns was grasped with limits of a definite value. This is that the perimeter column is trimmed to a Chon unit, as Yeongchunheon(迎春軒), In the roof frame of Korean traditional timber architecture, the slope of rafter, first of all, is to decide the slope of long common rafter and then to decide a height of ridge piece settled whole height of a building. And it is regulated with position and height of a post so as to set up middle rafter. Especially, the slope of long common rafter, it is not to be decide through scale of a building but through a length of the perimeter column and composition of bracket structure. And in case middle rafter, the process of its slope is to devide the central bay on the side of a building into equality, and then to adjust position and length of a post.

  • Despite continuous efforts to reduce on-site safety accidents, the construction industry remains a high-risk sector with a high rate of fatal accidents. Design for Safety(DFS), which manages safety risk factors at the design stage, is being used as a method to lower the construction safety accident rate. However, due to limited knowledge, designers are unaware of the design-results risks during the different of the project lifecycle, including construction, operation, and maintenance. Effective DFS can be conducted if the designer understands the effect of the building shape on the safety accident rate and corresponding safety management cost(SMC). The cost of safety facilities such as fall prevention nets and safety fences will vary depending on the shape of the building. This study analyzes the outer perimeter length's impact on SMC. Following the data collection from 21 projects for this study, an analysis was conducted using the independent variables of the building perimeter(BP), building shape factor(BSF), and building area(BA), the dependent variable of SMC. The correlation R2 was found to be 0.876, 0.801 and 0.792 between the BP and SMC, BSF and SMC, BA and SMC, respectively, indicating that these factors were closely related.

  • This paper presents a design procedure for building block integrated circuits that is based on the digraph relaxation model. A set of optimization procedure is prosented for a minimum area and routing-fecsible placement of IC building blocks. Chip area optimization is subject to perimeter and area constraints on the component rectangles in the dissection.

  • Laminar natural convection heat transfer from an isothermal rectangular beam attached to horizontal and vertical adiabatic plates has been studied for various aspect ratios of the beam and Grashof numbers. The local Nusselt number was increased with decreasing H/B for the constant beam width, B, and with increasing H/B for the constant beam height, H. The total mean Nusselt number of the vertical type was higher than that of horizontal type in the range of H/B.leq.0.52, but reversed in the H/B>0.52 at constant beam width. The total mean Nusselt number of the horizontal type was generally higher than that of vertical type at constant beam height. The total mean Nusselt number of the vertical type was higher than that of horizontal type in the range of H/B.leq.0.43 at constant wetted perimeter, but reversed in the H/B$\leq$0.43.

  • The environmental control based on interactive thermoregulatory behavior for swine production has many advantages over the conventional temperature-based control methods. Therefore, this study was conducted to compare various feature selection methods using postural images of growing pigs under various environmental conditions. A color CCD camera was used to capture the behavioral images which were then modified to binary images. The binary images were processed by thresholding, edge detection, and thinning techniques to separate the pigs from their background. Following feature were used for the input patterns to the neural network ; \circled1 perimeter, \circled2 area, \circled3 Fourier coefficients (5$\times$5), \circled4 combination of (\circled1 + \circled2), \circled5 combination of (\circled1 + \circled3), \circled6 combination of (\circled2 + \circled3), and \circled7 combination of (\circled1 + \circled2 + \circled3). Using the above each input pattern, the neural network could classify training images with the success rates of 96%, 96%, 96%, 100%, 100%, 96%, 100%, and testing images with those of 88%, 86%, 93%, 96%, 91%, 90%, 98%, respectively. Thus, the combination of perimeter, area and Fourier coefficients of the thinning images as neural network features gave the best performance (98%) in the behavioral classification.

  • The electrical properties of Au/n-type Ge Schottky contacts with different contact areas were investigated using current-voltage (I-V) measurements. Analyses of the reverse bias current characteristics showed that the Poole-Frenkel effect became strong with decreasing contact area. The contribution of the perimeter current density to the total current density was found to increase with increasing reverse bias voltage. Fitting of the forward bias I-V characteristics by considering various transport models revealed that the tunneling current is dominant in the low forward bias region. The contributions of both the thermionic emission (TE) and the generation-recombination (GR) currents to the total current were similar regardless of the contact area, indicating that these currents mainly flow through the bulk region. In contrast, the contribution of the tunneling current to the total current increased with decreasing contact area. The largest $E_{00}$ value (related to tunneling probability) for the smallest contact area was associated with higher tunneling effect.
