  • Linear displacement accuracy is one of the most important factors that determine machine tool accuracy The laser interferometer has been usually recommended for the measurement of linear displacement accuracy. In this paper, microcomputer aided measurement and compensation system has been developed for the pitch error in a CNC machine tool. For accurate pitch error calculation. the analysis code for the pitch error has been also implemented according to the international standards (ISO). The PC based automatic compensation system for the pitch error is also implemented. A new algorithm for calculating optimum value for pitch error compensation is proposed, minimizing the deviation at each target points. The development system has been applied to a practical CNC maching center and the performance has been demonstrated.

  • In this paper, conventional reactive power compensation is defined and instantaneous real control concept for shunt converters is proposed. This equipment incorporates the compensation function of harmonics at the distribution line by nonlinear load. These methodologies are applied to IEEE 13 distribution system with the modeling of nonlinear load using EMTEDC/PSCAD package. Simulation with EMTDC results presented to confirm that the new approach has better performance than those obtained by controllers based on traditional concepts of reactive power compensation.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel architecture, which is based on DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform), for ME (Motion Estimation) and MC (Motion Compensation). The traditional algorithms of ME and MC based on DCT did not suffer the advantage of the coarseness of the 2-dimensional DCT (2-D DCT) coefficients to reduce the operational time. Therefore, we derive a recursion equation for transform-domain ME and MC and design the structure by using highly regular, parallel, and pipeline processing elements. The main difference with others is removing the IDCT block by using to transform domain. Therefore, the performance of our algorithm is more efficient in practical image processing such as DVR (Digital Video Recorder) system. We present the simulation result which is compare with the spatial domain methods. it shows reducing the calculation cost. compression ratio. and peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR).

  • This paper proposes a method to improve the accuracy of a short-term electrical load forecasting (STLF) system based on neuro-fuzzy models. The proposed method compensates load forecasts based on the error obtained during the previous prediction. The basic idea behind this approach is that the error of the current prediction is highly correlated with that of the previous prediction. This simple compensation scheme using error information drastically improves the performance of the STLF based on neuro-fuzzy models. The viability of the proposed method is demonstrated through the simulation studies performed on the load data collected by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) in 1996 and 1997.

  • The hemispherical resonator gyroscope is a type of vibratory gyroscope, which can measure angle or angular rate, based on its operating mode. This paper deals with the case when the hemispherical resonator gyroscope is operated in angle measurement mode. In angle measurement mode, the resonator pattern angle precesses, with respect to the external rotation input, by the principle of the Coriolis effect, so that the external rotation can be estimated, by measuring the amount of precession angle. However, this pattern angle drifts, due to the manufacturing error of the resonator. Since the drift effect causes degradation of the angle estimation performance of the resonator, the corresponding drift compensation control should be performed, to enhance the estimation performance. In this paper, a mathematical model of the hemispherical resonator gyro is first introduced. By using the mathematical model, a nonlinear observer for imperfection parameter estimation, and the corresponding compensation controller are designed to operate hemispherical resonator gyros, as angle measurement sensors.

  • This paper presents control algorithms for unified active power filter. The algorithm is based in the performance function. The performance function is defined, and the compensation voltage reference is calculated for harmonics voltage and the compensation current reference is calculated for power factor. The proposed control algorithm can be applied to 3-phase 3-wire system and has a superior compensation characteristics for both harmonic current sources and harmonic voltage sources.

  • Mechanical and electrical parameter uncertainties cause dynamic and static estimation errors of the rotor speed and position, resulting in performance deterioration of sensorless control systems. This paper applies an extended nonlinear observer to interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSM) for the simultaneous estimation of the rotor speed and position. Two compensation methods are proposed to improve the observer performance against parameter uncertainties: an on-line rotational inertia adjustment approach that employs the gradient descent algorithm to suppress dynamic estimation errors, and an equivalent flux error compensation approach to eliminate static estimation errors caused by inaccurate electrical parameters. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is demonstrated by experimental tests.

  • In this paper, a robust feature compensation method is proposed for improving the performance of speech recognition. The proposed method is incorporated into the auto-regressive moving average (ARMA) based feature compensation. We employ variable weights for the ARMA filter according to the degree of speech activity, and pass the normalized cepstral sequence through the weighted ARMA filter. Additionally when normalizing the cepstral sequences in training, the cepstral means and variances are estimated from total training utterances. Experimental results show the proposed method significantly improves the speech recognition performance in the noisy and reverberant environments.

  • Dead-time element must be set into space vector pulsed width modulation signals to avoid short circuits of the inverter. However, the dead-time element distorts the output voltage vector, which deteriorates the performance of electrical machine drive system. In this paper, dead-time effect and its compensation control strategy are analyzed. Based on the analysis, the voltage distortion caused by dead-time is regarded as two disturbances imposed on dq axes in the rotor reference frame, which degenerates the current tracking performance. To inhibit the adverse effect caused by the dead-time, a control scheme using two linear extended state observers is proposed. This method provides a strong ability to suppress dead-time effects. Simulations and experiments are conducted on a permanent magnet synchronous motor drive system to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • A Compensation Algorithm for The Position of the User Hands based on the Moving Mean-Shift ($CAPUH_{MMS}$) in Human Robot Interface (HRI) System running the Kinect sensor is proposed in order to improve the performance of the gesture recognition is proposed in this paper. The average error improvement ratio of the trajectories ($AEIR_{TJ}$) in left-right movements of hands for the $CAPUH_{MMS}$ is compared with other compensation algorithms such as the Compensation Algorithm based on the Compensation Algorithm based on the Kalman Filter ($CA_{KF}$) and the Compensation Algorithm based on Least-Squares Method ($CA_{LSM}$) by the developed realtime performance simulator. As a result, the $AEIR_{TJ}$ in up-down movements of hands of the $CAPUH_{MMS}$ is measured as 19.35%, it is higher value compared with that of the $CA_{KF}$ and the $CA_{LSM}$ as 13.88% and 16.68%, respectively.
