  • To develop our original technology of concrete slab track, being widely accepted for new track, prefabricated concrete slab track, or precast concrete slab track has been developed. They have two different types according to slab shape and its dimensions, connection of slabs and connecting structure onto substructure. After the system design and successful performance evaluation in the laboratory, the trial installation on revenue line has been carried out. This paper is presenting the result of the trial installation and the performance tests in field. The performance tests have been performed as visual inspection for cracks and damages, measurement of track alignment and elastic behavior of track under passing trains. The performance test results during last 2 years have shown that no remarkable damages and settlements were found, and track alignment and elastic track behavior both exhibits good status.

  • Several lines of evidence indicate that scopolamine as a nonselective muscarinic antagonist disrupts object recognition performance and spatial working memory when administered systemically. In the present study, we investigated the different effects of scopolamine on acquisition, consolidation, and retrieval phases of object recognition performance and spatial working memory using the object recognition and the Morris water maze tasks in mice. In the acquisition phase test, scopolamine decreased recognition index on object recognition task and the trial 1 to trial 2 differences on Morris water maze task. In the consolidation and retrieval phase tests, scopolamine also decreased recognition index on object recognition task, where as scopolamine did not exhibited any effects on the Morris water maze task.

  • The DRM+ is the newest digital radio standard for in-band environment. Although various state of the art technologies are adopted, the performance evaluation information is not sufficient. It is hard that many countries and stations considering the DRM+ as their digital radio standard check the performance of DRM+. To evaluate the performance of the DRM+ system, this paper depicts the laboratory trial results of DRM+ standard. In the laboratory trial, the rack type DRM+ test bed is built. To reflect the practical broadcasting environment, various tests are executed. Many countries and stations can efficiently use these test results, which are considering converting their analog radio broadcasting to digital broadcasting.

  • RIB(Rigid Inflatable Boat) is widely used for coastal transportation in the commercial use and for ISR(Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) in the military use. Since RIB is around 10 meters in length and over 30 knots in speed, its motion characteristics in waves is quite different from a large scale ship. When it turns, large roll occurs and heeling direction is opposite to the large ship's case. Currently, many countries are developing USV(Unmanned Surface Vehicle) of which type is RIB. In order to develop high performance autopilot and way point controller, it is very important to identify RIB's motion characteristics. In this paper, sea trial test results of a 7-meter RIB such as speed, turning, zig-zag, and way point control tests were represented and its resistance and propulsion model was identified by using sea trial data and Savitsky's formula. In addition, the state space model which will be used in the identification of the four-degree-of-freedom dynamics in the next step was formulated and the identification procedure was proposed.

  • This study describes sea trial tests for a waterjet propulsion system attached in the hybrid super high speed cargo ship named "Narae". A measuring technique of jet velocity, gross thrust and impeller torque for the waterjet system is explained. From the measured data in sea trial test, performance of the waterjet propulsion system is analyzed and compared with model test results of a similar waterjet system which was carried out in 1996. The erective horse power estimated from sea trial tests shows a good agreement with resistance test results of the model ship. The optimum rising height is estimated as 0.75 m, and the overall efficiency of the waterjet system is predicted as 0.315 at 15 knots. Useful data such as the pump performance, the jet efficiency, the losses of inlet duct and nozzle were obtained. Test results show a similar behavior to the model test results.

  • It is expected that ISO issue a standard method for sea trial and the correction of data taken during speed trial. One of the major reason for this effort(or trend) is to get reliable and accurate sea trial measurement. With the same philosophy, SHI(Samsung Heavy Industries) developed a nautical signal integrated unit in 1996. Two years after this, SHI developed a software that enable the user to analyze the sea trial measurement on-board. After a series of stationary and performance tests, KR has issued a certificate for international application of the software. We have been utilizing this program for the measurement and analysis of sea trial of more than 70 ships built in SHI shipyard. However, one critical defect of the software has been that it can be applied only for single shaft vessels. In this short paper, we would like to introduce a new version of the software which can be used for both single and multi thruster vessels. This paper deals with the introduction, test method and some of the test result.

  • Background: Deficiencies in the ability to maintain balance are common in elderly. Augmented feedback such as knowledge of results (KR) can accelerate learning and mastering a motor skill in older people. Objects: We designed this study to examine whether one session of Wii-Fit game with self-regulated KR is effective for elderly people, and to compare the effect of two different timings of self-regulated KR conditions. Methods: Thirty-nine community-dwelling elders, not living in hospice care or a nursing home, participated in this study. During acquisition, two groups of volunteers were trained in 10 blocks of a dynamic balancing task under the following 2 conditions, respectively: (a) a pre-trial self-regulated KR ($n_1=18$), or (b) a post-trial self-regulated KR ($n_2=21$). Immediate retention tests and delayed retention tests of balancing performance were administered in 15 minutes and 24 hours following acquisition period, respectively. Results: In both groups, significant improvements of balancing performances scores were observed during the acquisition period. Regardless of the group, mean of balancing performance scores on retention tests were well-maintained from the final session. There were no significant differences between groups in balancing performance scores during the acquisition period (p>.05); however, the post-trial self-regulated KR group exhibited significantly higher balancing performance scores in both the immediate retention test and delayed retention test than that of the pre-trial self-regulated KR group (p<.05). Conclusion: Therefore, subjects who regulated their feedback after a dynamic balancing task, during the acquisition period, experienced more efficient motor learning during the retention period than did subjects who regulated their feedback before a dynamic balancing task. Accordingly, in case of presenting the KR of motor learning in clinical settings to elders who reduced dynamic balance abilities, the requesting time of KR is imperative according to self-estimation processes as well as types of KR and practice.

  • The objective of the This study is to access the speed performance employing the sea trial test and CFD with the our own designed and manufactured one-man boat. The overall design process including hull form design was explained. The sea trial was carried out with a manufactured boat in the clam sea. Brake power at the design speed of a boat through the sea trial was measured as 1680 W. The flow computation was conducted considering free surface and dynamic trim using a commercial CFD code(STAR-CCM+). The result of computation provided the information that residual resistance is bigger than fraction's at design speed. The total efficiency were predicted based on the sea trial and CFD. The Total efficiency was divided into shaft efficiency and quasi-propulsive efficiency. By using quasi-propulsive efficiency, it becomes possible to predict speed performance of boat in future. The results can provide information regarding hull form design, performance analysis and development of a boat in future.
