웹 서버 클러스터에서 Cyber Foraging 응용을 위한 비주기적 부하 갱신을 통한 부하 분산 기법 (Request Distribution for Fairness with a Non-Periodic Load-Update Mechanism for Cyber Foraging Dynamic Applications in Web Server Cluster)

  • 본 논문에서 웹 서버 클러스터 환경에서 웹 요청들의 분산을 위한 부하 분산 기법을 제안한다. 전통적인 주기적 부하 정보 갱신 기반의 부하 분산 기법에서는 동기화된 부하 정보와 동적 페이지에 포함된 스크립트들의 갱신 정보 때문에 Cyber Foraging 서비스 같은 동적 웹 응용프로그램에서는 적합하지 않다. 이를 해결하기 위해 Update-on-Finish 부하 분산 알고리즘은 비주기적인 부하 갱신 방법을 사용하고 있다. 웹 스위치는 비주기적인 부하 리포팅 후, 서버들의 실제 부하 정보를 알 수 있다. 그런후 실제 정보에 따라 부하 분산 스케줄을 재배열한다. 하지만 Update-on-Finish 알고리즘의 경우 부하 정보를 유지하기 위한 통신 부하가 크다는 문제점을 가진다. 본 논문에서는 각 서버가 K%의 작업을 마친 후 비주기적 부하 정보 보고를 통하여 부하 감소시킨 방법을 제안한다. 또한 서버의 처리능력이 다른 환경을 고려하여 서로 다른 threshold Ti값을 적용함으로써, 다양한 처리 능력을 가진 서버들을 위한 로드 밸런싱 알고리즘으로 확장하여 제안하고 있다. 시뮬레이션 결과에서 제안된 K-Percent-Finish Reporting 방법은 Update-on-Finish 방법보다 최소 50% 이상의 통신 부하를 감소시키면서, 기존 주기적 부하정보 갱신 기반의 관련 연구들보다 향상된 시스템 처리 능력을 보여주고 있다.

The Relationships Among Occupational Safety Climate, Patient Safety Climate, and Safety Performance Based on Structural Equation Modeling

  • Objectives: The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationships among hospital safety climate, patient safety climate, and safety outcomes among nurses. Methods: In the current cross-sectional study, the occupational safety climate, patient safety climate, and safety performance of nurses were measured using several questionnaires. Structural equation modeling was applied to test the relationships among occupational safety climate, patient safety climate, and safety performance. Results: A total of 211 nurses participated in this study. Over half of them were female (57.0%). The age of the participants tended to be between 20 years and 30 years old (55.5%), and slightly more than half had less than 5 years of work experience (51.5%). The maximum and minimum scores of occupational safety climate dimensions were found for reporting of errors and cumulative fatigue, respectively. Among the dimensions of patient safety climate, non-punitive response to errors had the highest mean score, and manager expectations and actions promoting patient safety had the lowest mean score. The correlation coefficient for the relationship between occupational safety climate and patient safety climate was 0.63 (p<0.05). Occupational safety climate and patient safety climate also showed significant correlations with safety performance. Conclusions: Close correlations were found among occupational safety climate, patient safety climate, and nurses' safety performance. Therefore, improving both the occupational and patient safety climate can improve nurses' safety performance, consequently decreasing occupational and patient-related adverse outcomes in healthcare units.

스토리지 성능 평가지침 개발 연구 (A Study on Development of the Evaluation Guideline for the Storage Performance)

  • 본 연구에서는 스토리지 성능평가에 필요한 대표적인 성능지표로 IOPS 및 MB/s 을 결정하고 이를 평가하기 위한 지침을 개발하였다. 현재, 벤더 중립적인 스토리지 평가기준이 없기 때문에 스토리지 성능평가나 스토리지 자원 규모를 설계하는데 어려움이 있었다. 연구결과, OLTP 응용에 활용되는 스토리지는 IOPS를 성능지표로 하고 측정을 위한 블록크기는 4KB, 8KB, 16KB, 읽기대쓰기 비율은 7:3으로 측정하는 것을 제안하였다. 한편, 백업, VOD, LFP(Large File Processing) 과 같은 대용량 처리 응용에 사용되는 스토리지는 MB/s를 성능지표로 하고, 측정을 위한 블록크기는 64KB, 256KB, 1,024KB 으로 하고 읽기대 쓰기 비율은 1:0 으로 하는 것을 제안하였다. 끝으로 개발된 평가지침을 이용한 측정결과보고서 양식을 개발하였으며 측정도구로는 플랫홈에 비종속적인 Vdvench 측정도구를 제안하였다.

  • Under the Renewable Heat Obligation (RHO) public buildings in the Republic of Korea larger than $10,000m^2$ must achieve an 11% overall reduction to thermal energy consumption. Well intended solutions have been proposed. However, not all option is evaluated on the same basis, potentially resulting in incomplete or sub-optimal solutions. What's more once projects are implemented, there are inconsistencies in the methods used to measure and evaluate operating performance of the post-retrofit case. The RETScreen decision tools and methodology can be used by decision makers, policy developers, architects, engineers and community leaders to evaluate and select the most effective solutions for Korea's RHO needs.

Website를 이용한 환자안전문화 증진 프로그램의 개발 (Development of Website-based Patient Safety Culture Promotion Program)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a website-based patient safety culture promotion program that could be implemented by nurses in real work scenarios. Methods: This study was a methodological study. A patient safety culture promotion program, called 'Safe Culture, Save Patients' was developed, based on structuration theory and performance engineering approaches. Results: This program was delivered in the form of a website containing contents about changes in the work environment, information about accidents and the improvement process details, as well as a program for motivation. The program was tested about the validity on contents and usability - a panel of 14 experts confirmed its validity using the contents validity index (CVI), with a resulting S-CVI of .980. Usability was evaluated by 11 nurses, which allowed finalize the program. Conclusion: The 'Safe Culture, Save Patients' program was a valid program that could be applied in clinical practice immediately. The results of this study warrant further studies to evaluate the effects of this patient safety culture promotion program.

An Analysis of Combining Methods in Cooperative Spectrum Sensing over Rayleigh Fading Channel

  • This paper evaluates the performance of two methods of spectrum sensing: the linear combining method and the selection combining method which is based on maximum SNR of sensing channel. We proposed a rule for global detection for the purpose of combating hidden terminal problems in spectrum sensing. Our analysis considers a situation when sensing channels experience the non-identically, independently distributed(n.i.d) Rayleigh fading. The average probabilities of global detection in these methods are derived and compared. In the scope of this paper, the reporting channels are assumed to be the AWGN channel with invariant and identical gain during the system's operation.

  • In the development of executive information systems (EIS) the selection of an appropriate software package as a system building tool is regarded as a key technology. This paper attempts to shed some light on the evolving field of EIS software packages and provides a helpful Guideline for selecting the most suitable product by addressing significant considerations. A framework is presented that includes a six-step evaluation process: need analysis, team building, vendor survey, identification of decision criteria, and building an evaluation model and its verification. The major evaluation criteria of the full-featured software include: special functionality, reporting, graphics. decision support capability user friendliness, general functionality physical requirements, communication linkage, vendor support, cost related factors, performance, and documentation capability. An illustrative model using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method is also discussed to prove the appropriateness of our approach.

  • This study tried to figure out the framework of safety culture in railway industry to analyze root causes of railway incidents and accidents at Korean National Railway. Through the literature survey, authors found some critical dimensions common to railway safety culture such as employees' belief in the managers' management weight on safety and productivity, recognition of safety importance, risk taking attitude, practice of safety meeting before and after doing work, communication between management and employees and among drivers, traffic managers and infrastructure maintenance workers, safety reporting practice, safety and performance appraisal, effectiveness of safety audit, safety training, work place arrangement, incidents and accidents investigation, and safety knowledge management.

  • Hydrogen isotopes accountancy and storage are important functions in a nuclear fusion fuel cycle. The hydrogen isotopes are safely stored in metal hydride beds. The tritium inventory of the bed is determined from the decay heat of tritium. The decay heat is measured by circulating helium through the metal hydride bed and measuring the resultant temperature increase of the helium flow. We are reporting our preliminary experimental results on the hydrogen isotopes accountancy and storage performance in a metal hydride bed.

  • Despite the development of the various navigational equipment, such as GPS, ARPA, ECDIS, AIS, VDR, and hull monitoring system, marine accidents are still a leading concern in shipping industry. For all accidents over the reporting period, approximately 60 to 80% of the accidents was involved in human error. It means that in each case, some events which were associated with human error initiated an accident, and those failures of human performance led to the failure to avoid an accident or mitigate it's consequences. However, the improvement and the effort on the maritime human error are still limited in an elementary step. The objective of this paper is to propose a modified Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS) model in order to analyse the collision accidents of tug-barge ship.
