The purpose of this study is to predict the remaining capacity of lithium-ion batteries and evaluate their performance using five artificial intelligence models, including linear regression analysis, decision tree, random forest, neural network, and ensemble model. We is in the study, measured Excel data from the CS2 lithium-ion battery was used, and the prediction accuracy of the model was measured using evaluation indicators such as mean square error, mean absolute error, coefficient of determination, and root mean square error. As a result of this study, the Root Mean Square Error(RMSE) of the linear regression model was 0.045, the decision tree model was 0.038, the random forest model was 0.034, the neural network model was 0.032, and the ensemble model was 0.030. The ensemble model had the best prediction performance, with the neural network model taking second place. The decision tree model and random forest model also performed quite well, and the linear regression model showed poor prediction performance compared to other models. Therefore, through this study, ensemble models and neural network models are most suitable for predicting the remaining capacity of lithium-ion batteries, and decision tree and random forest models also showed good performance. Linear regression models showed relatively poor predictive performance. Therefore, it was concluded that it is appropriate to prioritize ensemble models and neural network models in order to improve the efficiency of battery management and energy systems.
The study will assess the seasonal effect of hydrological models on performance and parameters for streamflow simulation. TPHM, GR4J, CAT, and TANK-SM hydrological models will be applied for simulating streamflow in ten small and large watersheds located in South Korea. The readily available hydrometeorological data will be applied as an input to the four hydrological models and the potential evapotranspiration will be computed using the Penman-Monteith equation. The SCE-UA algorithm implemented in PEST will be used to calibrate the models considering similar objective functions bedside the calibration will be renewed to capture the seasonal effects on the model performance and parameters. The seasonal effects on the model performance and parameters will be presented after assessing the four hydrologic models results. The conventional approach and season-based results will be evaluated for each model in the tested watersheds and a conclusion will be made based on the finding of the results.
The mean-line method using empirical models is the most practical method of predicting off-design performance. To gain insight into the empirical models, the influence of empirical models on the performance prediction results is investigated. We found that, in the two-zone model, the secondary flow mass fraction has a considerable effect at high mass flow-rates on the performance prediction curves. In the TEIS model, the first element changes the slope of the performance curves as well as the stable operating range. The second element makes the performance curves move up and down as it increases or decreases. It is also discovered that the slip factor affects pressure ratio, but it has little effect on efficiency. Finally, this study reveals that the skin friction coefficient has significant effect on both the pressure ratio curve and the efficiency curve. These results show the limitations of the present empirical models, and more resonable empirical models are reeded.
As the applications for Mobile Ad-hoc NETworks (MANETs) have varied, performance analysis has become one of the main research areas. They commonly offer only simple radio propagation models that neglect obstacles of a propagation environment. The radio wave propagation model has a strong impact on the results of the simulation run. In this paper we present the new experimental results of the impacts of the various propagation models on MANETs' performance. Intensive simulations have been presented using the group mobility which models typical ad-hoc situations such as military movements or disaster recovery activities under the supervision of a group leader. Comparisons of conventional simple models with more complicated models, i.e., shadowing, Raleigh, and Ricean models, show that, in spite of the models' popularity, the free space and two-ray ground models are too optimistic in describing real ad-hoc group mobility situations.
Six models of operator seat supplied to local tractor manufacturers were tested in the laboratory in accordance with ISO 5007 and 78/764/EEC. No models out of the six met the allowable damping and transmissibility performance criteria of both ISO 5007 and 78/764/EEC. From the ISO criterion standpoint, one model failed in damping performance and 4 models in isolation performance. From the 78/764/EEC criterion standpoint, 4 models failed in damping performance and 4 models in isolation performance. However none of them failed in all of the criteria, either. Each model met the one acceptance criterion but failed in another. This indicated that operator seat must be improved to meet the current ISO 5007 or 78/764/EEC and the exposure limit value that will be enforced in EU tractor market from 2014 by EU Directive 2002/44 EC.
Although some prediction models have successfully developed for ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC), they do not provide insights and explicit relations between all constituents and its consistency, and compressive strength. In the present study, based on the experimental results, several mathematical models have been evaluated to predict the consistency and the 28-day compressive strength of UHPC. The models used were Linear, Logarithmic, Inverse, Power, Compound, Quadratic, Cubic, Mixed, Sinusoidal and Cosine equations. The applicability and accuracy of these models were investigated using experimental data, which were collected from literature. The comparisons between the models and the experimental results confirm that the majority of models give acceptable prediction with a high accuracy and trivial error rates, except Linear, Mixed, Sinusoidal and Cosine equations. The assessment of the models using numerical methods revealed that the Quadratic and Inverse equations based models provide the highest predictability of the compressive strength at 28 days and consistency, respectively. Hence, they can be used as a reliable tool in mixture design of the UHPC.
Deep learning models, especially those based on long short-term memory (LSTM), have presented their superiority in addressing time series data issues recently. This study aims to comprehensively evaluate the performance of deep learning models that belong to the supervised learning category in streamflow prediction. Therefore, six deep learning models-standard LSTM, standard gated recurrent unit (GRU), stacked LSTM, bidirectional LSTM (BiLSTM), feed-forward neural network (FFNN), and convolutional neural network (CNN) models-were of interest in this study. The Red River system, one of the largest river basins in Vietnam, was adopted as a case study. In addition, deep learning models were designed to forecast flowrate for one- and two-day ahead at Son Tay hydrological station on the Red River using a series of observed flowrate data at seven hydrological stations on three major river branches of the Red River system-Thao River, Da River, and Lo River-as the input data for training, validation, and testing. The comparison results have indicated that the four LSTM-based models exhibit significantly better performance and maintain stability than the FFNN and CNN models. Moreover, LSTM-based models may reach impressive predictions even in the presence of upstream reservoirs and dams. In the case of the stacked LSTM and BiLSTM models, the complexity of these models is not accompanied by performance improvement because their respective performance is not higher than the two standard models (LSTM and GRU). As a result, we realized that in the context of hydrological forecasting problems, simple architectural models such as LSTM and GRU (with one hidden layer) are sufficient to produce highly reliable forecasts while minimizing computation time because of the sequential data nature.
Machine learning (ML) models based on artificial neural network (ANN) and decision tree (DT) were developed for estimation of axial capacity of concrete columns reinforced with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) bars. Between the design codes, the Canadian code provides better formulation compared to the Australian or American code. For empirical models based on elastic modulus of FRP, Hadhood et al. (2017) model performed best. Whereas for empirical models based on tensile strength of FRP, as well as all empirical models, Raza et al. (2021) was adjudged superior. However, compared to the empirical models, all ML models exhibited superior performance according to all five performance metrics considered. The performance of ANN and DT models were comparable in general. Under the present setup, inclusion of the transverse reinforcement information did not improve the accuracy of estimation with either ANN or DT. With selective use of inputs, and a much simpler ANN architecture (4-3-1) compared to that reported in literature (Raza et al. 2020: 6-11-11-1), marginal improvement in correlation could be achieved. The metrics for the best model from the study was a correlation of 0.94, absolute errors between 420 kN to 530 kN, and the range being 0.39 to 0.51 for relative errors. Though much superior performance could be obtained using ANN/DT models over empirical models, further work towards improving accuracy of the estimation is indicated before design of FRP reinforced concrete columns using ML may be considered for design codes.
