  • In this study, the design method of a 155 mm Solid Fuel Ramjet projectile is proposed and a flight performance analysis program through mathematical modelling is developed. Through flight performance analysis, ramjet performance during flight, which is comprised of thrust, specific impulse, pressure recovery ratio, location of shock waves, and magnitude of drag, was predicted. The results show that compared to Rocket Assisted Projectile(RAP), the range was increased by 90 %. Furthermore, how variations in nozzle exit area ratio and the intake area cause variations in range was observed. This research on modeling and simulation methodology will provide useful data for future development of solid fuel ramjet projectiles.

  • This paper presents modelling and analyzing method of centrifugal chiller which has a rated capacity of 200 RT(703 kW) through on-site performance test. Field performance data of a chiller installed in a research building of KIST have been collected. Simple models were developed for predicting the heat exchanger and system performances by regression of chiller operation data during 5 days in August. The models proposed here account for the effect of variations of cooling capacity, temperatures and flew rates of secondary fluids. The proposed models can predict the actual performance data from June to September within $\pm$ 5% error. The COP of centrifugal chiller are estimated under the standard rating conditions and reduced mass flow rates of chilled and cooling water.

  • Many algorithms for processing LIDAR data have been developed for diverse applications not limited to patch segmentation, bare-earth filtering and building extraction. However, since we cannot exactly know the true locations of individual LIDAR points, it is difficult to assess the performance of a LIDAR data processing algorithm. In this paper, we thus attempted the performance assessment of the segmentation algorithm developed by Lee (2006) using the LIDAR data generated through simulation based on sensor modelling. Consequently, based on simulation, we can perform the performance assessment of a LIDAR processing algorithm more objectively and quantitatively with an automatic procedure.

  • This study aims to examine OL as a potential mediating variable in the relationship between IT and organizational performance. Organizational learning (OL) has been proposed as the mechanism to accomplish this task. Existing empirical research demonstrates that OL may indeed act as a mediator for the effect of IT on organizational outcomes. Also, existing literature discusses the use of technology in the organization, and the case for OL as the key knowledge process, and the intersection between technology and OL as a knowledge-based means for improving organizational performance. Many studies use a descriptive measure of OL despite the theory suggesting that a normative measure may be more appropriate. This study aims to address these concerns in a setting by using structural equation modelling (SEM) to compare the effectiveness of descriptive and normative measures of OL as mediating variables in knowledge-intensive organizations. Survey results support OL as a mediator between IT and organizational performance in addition to normative measures of OL outperforming descriptive measures. Implications for research and practice are discussed. To test the model, we will apply (SEM) structural equation modeling in the analysis of a moment structures (AMOS) on the empirical evidence collected from 218 Pakistani CEOs and top managers.

  • Data modelling and interpretation for structural health monitoring (SHM) field data are critical for evaluating structural performance and quantifying the vulnerability of infrastructure systems. In order to improve the data modelling accuracy, and extend the application range from data regression analysis to out-of-sample forecasting analysis, an improved most likely heteroscedastic Gaussian process (iMLHGP) methodology is proposed in this study by the incorporation of the outof-sample forecasting algorithm. The proposed iMLHGP method overcomes this limitation of constant variance of Gaussian process (GP), and can be used for estimating non-stationary typhoon-induced response statistics with high volatility. The first attempt at performing data regression and forecasting analysis on structural responses using the proposed iMLHGP method has been presented by applying it to real-world filed SHM data from an instrumented cable-stay bridge during typhoon events. Uncertainty quantification and correlation analysis were also carried out to investigate the influence of typhoons on bridge strain data. Results show that the iMLHGP method has high accuracy in both regression and out-of-sample forecasting. The iMLHGP framework takes both data heteroscedasticity and accurate analytical processing of noise variance (replace with a point estimation on the most likely value) into account to avoid the intensive computational effort. According to uncertainty quantification and correlation analysis results, the uncertainties of strain measurements are affected by both traffic and wind speed. The overall change of bridge strain is affected by temperature, and the local fluctuation is greatly affected by wind speed in typhoon conditions.

  • The aimed to development general management system that can manage diverse facilities of city using RFID. Defining data format of items in each management, type and code for the urban facilities, the researcher designed database of urban facilities through the process of establishing logic model and data modelling. By inputting designed database into RFID Tag of each urban facilities and using RFID Reader and PDA, the researcher developed system that can efficiently manage the basic attributes and information and management information of urban facilities. Further, it was found that the characteristics of RFID Tag and GPS should improve the optimal hardware combination and PDA performance for the surrounding environmental influence and system performance.

  • A controller design procedure for an electro-hydraulic positioning systems has been developed using $H{\infty}$ control. The generalized plant models and weighting function for multiplicative uncertainty modelling error was presented along with $H{\infty}$ controller designs in order to investigate the robust stability and performance. Both disturbance rejection and command tracking performances were improved with the $H{\infty}$ controller, and the better uniformity of time response is achieved across wide range of operating conditions than the PID, LQR and LQG control scheme. The multiplicative uncertainty case was specifically suited for the design of an electro-hydraulic positioning control systems using $H{\infty}$ control.

  • This paper reviews the recent developments in fire engineering and the design approaches which are being used in the UK, compared with traditional prescriptive solutions. The research background which has underpinned this is briefly summarised, and the benefits of these more advanced methods are discussed. The focus is on structural fire engineering, but some consideration of modelling fires is also included. Some of the more commonly used design tools are discussed, together with the relative benefits they offer. The use of these more advanced approaches is then outlined in the context of which building types might be most suitable, and a number of case studies are included to illustrate this. Likely future developments are also discussed.

  • Capturing the carbon dioxide emitted from coal-fired power plants will be necessary if targeted reduction in carbon emissions is to be achieved. Modelling and simulation are the base for optimal operation and control in thermal power plant and also play an important role in energy savings. This study aims to analyze the performance of supercritical coal fired power plant through steady and dynamic simulation using a commercial software gCCS. A whole power plant has been modeled and validated with design data of 500 MWe power plant, base and part load operations of the plant were also evaluated, consequently it had been proven that the simulated result had a good agreement with actual operating data. In addition, the effect of co-firng on the plant efficiency and flue gases were investigated using gCCS simulator.

  • The purpose of this paper is to improve tracking performance for an EMS system using variable structure control. To improve current control of characteristics and to reduce chattering, a reaching law is applied. A disturbance observer using sliding observer is designed to compensate the influence of disturbances. This observer compensates modelling uncertainty and steady state error as well as external disturbance. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is demonstrated by experiments
