R-410a and R-407c witch have the best potential among the substances being considered as R-22 alternatives were tested as "drop in" refrigerants against a set R-22 baseline tests for comparison. The performance evaluations were carried out in a psychrometric calorimeter test facility using the residential split-type air conditioner under the ARI rating conditions. Other than the use of different lubricant and a hand-operated expansion valve, one of the commercial systems was selected for the experiment. Performance characteristics were measured; compressor power, capacity, VCR, mass flow rate and COP. The tests showed that R-407c can be directly applied to the existing refrigeration system because of its similar vapor pressure and other thermopysical properties with those of R-22. However, it required change to the volume flow rate of compressor in order to achieve the similar performance with R-22 because of its relatively small VCR and capacity. Meanwhile, R-410a has too high a vapor pressure to be applied to the existing system and this feature results in relatively low COP of the system compared to that of R-22. But this could be improved by changing compressor design considering R-410a's relatively high VCR and capacity compared to those of R-22.
When chewing forces are repetitively applied to a dental implant, gaps are often generated at the interface surfaces between the abutment and the fixture, which results in some deterioration, such as loosening of the fastening screw, dental retraction, and fixture fractures. To cope with such problems, a sealing-type abutment having a number of grooves along the conical-surface circumference was previously developed, and it showed better sealing performance than conventional ones. To enhance the sealing performance, a new model in which a gold ring is inserted into the top groove of the sealing-type abutment is developed in this study. In addition, a manufacturing process is developed, and performance evaluations, such as fatigue and sealing tests, are carried out. The evaluation results show that the gold-ring-inserted sealing abutment yields better performance than conventional ones.
This study analyzed the central heating system and the cogeneration system among the methods of supplying energy which have application to the Hydrogen Fuel Cell system and apartment complexes for performance evaluations. Therefore, a feasibility study on the first application of this system in an apartment complexes was considered to evaluate the energy performance by the amount of fuel consumed by the system using Hydrogen Fuel Cell energy and environmental performance by the amount of greenhouse gas emissions. As a result, the Hydrogen Fuel Cell system consumes 83% of fuel while the cogeneration system consumes 81% of fuel comparison to conventional central heating system. The Hydrogen Fuel Cell and the cogeneration system produce 73%t and 70% of greenhouse gas emissions in comparison to conventional central heating system.
Since gasoline engines are based on a combination of a cast iron liner and an aluminum block, which have different thermal properties and stiffnesses, bore shape distortion is likely to occur during honing due to uneven thermal deformation. To solve this problem, many tests and evaluations are needed to support the development of a high-performance honing stone with low heat generation. Moreover, performance evaluation, which depends on inspection and observation after work, often requires much trial and error to optimize tool design, due to challenges in the accurate interpretation of results. This study confirmed that the assessment of grinding capability was clarified by evaluating performance under severe work conditions and by in-situ measurement and recording of current consumption (workload) and heat generation during operation. As a result of using a honing stone with excellent grinding performance in engine block manufacture-in which cylinder bore distortion caused by thermal deformation during manufacture is a problem-a noticeable improvement in the degree of cylindricity was observed.
Since its introduction in Korea, design VE has widely been used as a means to enhance values in the construction industry. However, a greater emphasis is still placed on cost reduction in approach attitudes and performance evaluations on the implementation of design VE. In this regard, this study presented a performance evaluation method for cost, function, and value of VE proposals. Numerical criteria on the increase and decrease of cost and function that can classify the value enhancement type of VE proposals were proposed based on the performance evaluation method. It is expected that the use of numerical criteria for the type classification of VE proposal, and cost and performance evaluation method proposed in this study will make it possible to conduct a clear and more intuitive evaluation of VE proposal. However, it is appropriate to use the numerical criteria as a guideline to apply the new performance evaluation method for VE proposals. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a statistical analysis with a wider range of users after the repeated application of the findings of this study, and thus to carry out research for presenting the numerical criteria for various types of users.
Purpose: CEOs develop policies through their effective decision-making while employees implement the policies so that a business realizes the expected returns. This research focuses on the importance of the CEO's sustainable leadership to distribute environmental education culture to improve employees' environmental performance. Research design, data and methodology: The PRISMA that is selected by the present research is an evidence-based minimum group of entities for reporting in systematic reviews and meta-analyses. The core focus of the concept is to note studies that evaluate the impacts of intervention and can also be utilized as a basis for writing systematic reviews rather than intervention evaluations. Results: The current investigation indicates that there are four kinds of suggestions (a. Increased organizational learning, b. Open communication, c. Participative decision making, d. Psychological empowerment) how the management should develop sustainable leadership for distributing green culture and improving employee green performance. Conclusions: Based on four solutions, the present research concludes that sustainable leadership for CEOs is not only of advantage in terms of protecting the environment and the people, but it fosters increased organizational learning. Increased organizational learning leads to better employee sustainable performance, which includes financial performance and the social and environmental initiatives the organization implements.
In software-defined wireless networking (SDWN), the optimal routing technique is one of the effective solutions to improve its performance. This routing technique is done by many different methods, with the most common using integer linear programming problem (ILP), building optimal routing metrics. These methods often only focus on one routing objective, such as minimizing the packet blocking probability, minimizing end-to-end delay (EED), and maximizing network throughput. It is difficult to consider multiple objectives concurrently in a routing algorithm. In this paper, we investigate the application of machine learning to control routing in the SDWN. An intelligent routing algorithm is then proposed based on the machine learning to improve the network performance. The proposed algorithm can optimize multiple routing objectives. Our idea is to combine supervised learning (SL) and reinforcement learning (RL) methods to discover new routes. The SL is used to predict the performance metrics of the links, including EED quality of transmission (QoT), and packet blocking probability (PBP). The routing is done by the RL method. We use the Q-value in the fundamental equation of the RL to store the PBP, which is used for the aim of route selection. Concurrently, the learning rate coefficient is flexibly changed to determine the constraints of routing during learning. These constraints include QoT and EED. Our performance evaluations based on OMNeT++ have shown that the proposed algorithm has significantly improved the network performance in terms of the QoT, EED, packet delivery ratio, and network throughput compared with other well-known routing algorithms.

The major objective of this research is to evaluate performance of improved intersections for response time to emergency vehicle preemption. Smart technologies have been introduced to civil infrastructure systems for resilient communities. The technologies need to evaluate their effectiveness and feasibility to confirm their introduction. This research focuses on the performance of emergency vehicle preemption, represented by response time, when smart intersections are introduced in a community. The response time is determined by not only intersections but also a number of factors such as traffic, distance, road conditions, and incident types. However, the evaluation of emergency response has often ignored factors related to emergency vehicle routes. In this respect, this research synthetically analyzes geospatial and incident data using each route of emergency vehicle and conducts before-and-after evaluations. The changes in performance are analyzed by the impact of smart intersections on response time through Bayesian regression models. The result provides measures of the project's performance. This study will contribute to the body of knowledge on modeling the impacts of technology application and integrating heterogeneous data sets. It will provide a way to confirm and prove the effectiveness of introducing smart technologies to our communities.
In this paper, a novel air-interface is presented for Fleet-Net1, a self-organizing network for inter-vehicle and vehicle-toroadsidecommunication. The air-interface is based upon the lowchip-rate version of UMTS/TDD. To adapt the cellular UMTS standard to an air-interface for ad hoc networks, changes of the physical layer, medium access control sub-layer and radio resource management are required. An overview of the required modifications is given here. Particularly, a decentralized synchronization mechanism is presented and analyzed by means of simulations. Furthermore, changes for the medium access control are explained in detail, which allow for an efficient operation in partly meshed networks and prioritization. Performance results of the overall system considering throughput and delay are derived by means of analytical evaluations and event-driven simulations. Based on realistic mobility models, it is shown that the presented solution provides a robust communication platform even in vehicular environments. The proposed air-interface is a cost-effective solution not only for inter-vehicle communication, but also for ad hoc networking in general, benefiting from the mass-market of UMTS.
