성능, 사용성, 환경성 평가를 통한 소형온풍기 설계안 개발 사례 (A Case Study of Eco-Design for a Small-Size Electric Heater by Performance, Usability, and Life-Cycle Assessments)

  • Life-cycle assessment (LCA) is often employed to quantify the environmental impact of a product in a comprehensive manner. The aspects of performance and usability as well as that of eco-friendliness should be considered in an integrated manner for the market competitiveness of an eco-friendly product. The present study developed a product improvement plan for an eco-friendly electric heater by benchmarking two small-size electric heaters (companies 'H' and 'T') in terms of performance, usability, and eco-friendliness. The performance measurements such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, noise, and power consumption were collected while the two heaters were operated in a laboratory setting. Then, the usability evaluations such as aesthetics, operation satisfaction, performance satisfaction, and overall satisfaction were surveyed for the two heaters using a 5-point scale (1 for very unsatisfied and 5 for very satisfied). Lastly, the LCA analysis was conducted by following the six-step process of eco-friendly product design provided by KEITI. The analysis results of the two products being integrated with the aspects of product, service, and user, four design improvement directions such as eco-efficient, smart, modularized, and user-support were recommended for an eco-friendly electric heater. These proposed concepts would be useful to develop an eco-friendly electric heater design with a high level of market competitiveness.

An evaluation on in-pile behaviors of SiCf/SiC cladding under normal and accident conditions with updated FROBA-ATF code

  • Although there are still controversial opinions and uncertainty on application of SiCf/SiC composite cladding as next-generation cladding material for its great oxidation resistance in high temperature steam environment and other outstanding advantages, it cannot deny that SiCf/SiC cladding is a potential accident tolerant fuel (ATF) cladding with high research priority and still in the engineering design stage for now. However, considering its disadvantages, such as low irradiated thermal conductivity, ductility that barely not exist, further evaluations of its in-pile behaviors are still necessary. Based on the self-developed code we recently updated, relevant thermohydraulic and mechanical models in FROBA-ATF were applied to simulate the cladding behaviors under normal and accident conditions in this paper. Even through steady-state performance analysis revealed that this kind of cladding material could greatly reduce the oxidation thickness, the thermal performance of UO2-SiC was poor due to its low inpile thermal conductivity and creep rate. Besides, the risk of failure exists when reactor power decreased. With geometry optimization and dopant addition in pellets, the steady-state performance of UO2-SiC was enhanced and the failure risk was reduced. The thermal and mechanical performance of the improved UO2-SiC was further evaluated under Loss of coolant accident (LOCA) and Reactivity Initiated Accident (RIA) conditions. Transient results showed that the optimized ATF had better thermal performance, lower cladding hoop stress, and could provide more coping time under accident conditions.

가능최대지진(MCE)을 적용한 콘크리트 댐 피어부 내진성능평가 방안 개선 (Improvement of Seismic Performance Evaluation Method for Concrete Dam Pier by Applying Maximum Credible Earthquake(MCE))

  • 본 논문에서는 MCE를 적용한 콘크리트 댐 피어부의 동적소성해석을 통한 내진성능평가 수행 시 소성재료모델, 성능수준 평가 방법에 대한 현행 기준의 적용성을 검토하고 개선안을 제시하였다. 다양한 조건으로 동적소성해석을 수행하여 소성재료모델에 대한 적용성을 검토하였고, 그 결과 현행 댐 내진성능평가요령에서 제시하는 평균응력-평균변형률 기법은 최소철근비가 확보되지 않은 조건에서 동적탄성해석으로 예측한 결과보다 피어부의 응답을 과소평가하는 것으로 확인되었다. 따라서 최소철근비가 확보되지 않은 댐 피어부는 무근콘크리트로 간주하여 콘크리트 인장거동특성에 파괴에너지를 적용하는 방법으로 피어부 성능수준을 평가하도록 하는 개선안을 도출하였다. 개선사항 적용할 경우 현행 내진성능평가 방법보다 보수적인 평가결과를 도출할 수 있다.

Static and fatigue performance of short group studs connector in novel post-combination steel-UHPC composite deck

  • Casting Ultra High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) on an orthotropic steel deck and forming a composite action by connectors could improve the steel deck fatigue performance. This study presents the mechanical performance of a proposed post-combination connection between UHPC and steel, which had a low constraint effect on UHPC shrinkage. A total of 10 push-out tests were conducted for static and fatigue performance investigations. And the test results were compared with evaluation methods in codes to verify the latter's applicability. Meanwhile, nonlinear simulation and parametric works with material damage plasticity models were also conducted for the static and fatigue failure mechanism understanding. The static and fatigue test results both showed that fractures at stud roots and surrounding local UHPC crushes were the main failure appearances. Compared with normally arranged studs, group arrangement could result in reductions of static stud shear stiffness, strength, and fatigue lives, which were about 18%, 12%, and 27%, respectively. Compared with the test results, stud shear capacity and fatigue lives evaluations based on the codes of AASHTO, Eurocode 4, JSCE and JTG D64 could be applicable in general while the safety redundancies tended to be smaller or even insufficient for group studs. The analysis results showed that arranging studs in groups caused obviously uneven strain distributions. The severer stress concentration and larger strain ranges caused the static and fatigue performance degradations of group studs. The research outcome provides a very important basis for establishing a design method of connections in the novel post-combination steel-UHPC composite deck.

Criticality benchmarking of ENDF/B-VIII.0 and JEFF-3.3 neutron data libraries with RMC code

  • New versions of ENDF/B and JEFF data libraries have been released during the past two years with significant updates in the neutron reaction sublibrary and the thermal neutron scattering sublibrary. In order to get a more comprehensive impression of the criticality quality of these two latest neutron data libraries, and to provide reference for the selection of the evaluated nuclear data libraries for the science and engineering applications of the Reactor Monte Carlo code RMC, the criticality benchmarking of the two latest neutron data libraries has been performed. RMC was employed as the computational tools, whose processing capability for the continuous representation ENDF/B-VIII.0 thermal neutron scattering laws was developed. The RMC criticality validation suite consisting of 116 benchmarks was established for the benchmarking work. The latest ACE format data libraries of the neutron reaction and the thermal neutron scattering laws for ENDF/B-VIII.0, ENDF/B-VII.1, and JEFF-3.3 were downloaded from the corresponding official sites. The ENDF/B-VII.0 data library was also employed to provide code-to-code validation for RMC. All the calculations for the four different data libraries were performed by using a parallel version of RMC, and all the calculated standard deviations are lower than 30pcm. Comprehensive analyses including the C/E values with uncertainties, the δk/σ values, and the metrics of χ2 and < |Δ| >, were conducted and presented. The calculated keff eigenvalues based on the four data libraries generally agree well with the benchmark evaluations for most cases. Among the 116 criticality benchmarks, the numbers of the calculated keff eigenvalues which agree with the benchmark evaluations within 3σ interval (with a confidence level of 99.6%) are 107, 109, 112, and 113 for ENDF/B-VII.0, ENDF/B-VII.1, ENDF/B-VIII.0 and JEFF-3.3, respectively. The present results indicate that the ENDF/B-VIII.0 neutron data library has a better performance on average.

양측 상지 기능 평가도구에 관한 체계적 고찰 (A Systematic Review on Measurement Instruments of Bilateral Upper Extremity Function)

  • 목적 : 본 연구는 양측상지기능 평가도구의 체계적 고찰을 통해, 대상자, 평가방법, 신뢰도, 타당도, 민감도 등을 분석하여 임상 및 연구에서의 자료로 활용하고자 하였다. 연구방법 : 2014년 12월 한달 동안 PubMed 데이터베이스에서 'upper extremity'와 'motor actiity' 'activities of daily living'와 'assessment instrument' 'disability evaluations'의 키워드로 검색하여, 최종적으로 68개의 연구에서 44개의 상지기능 평가도구를 추출하였다. 추출된 평가도구에서 양측상지기능 평가도구의 비율, 대상자, 측정방법, 신뢰도, 타당도, 민감도를 비교분석하였다. 결과 : 상지기능 평가도구 중 양측상지기능 평가도구는 2개로 가장 적었다. 모두 뇌졸중 환자를 대상으로 하였으며, 환자의 양측 상지수행을 통해 환측의 기능을 측정하는 평가도구였다. 평가도구의 신뢰도, 타당도, 민감도는 높은 것으로 조사되었다. 결론 : 본 연구를 통해 양측상지기능 평가도구의 개발 및 연구가 필요하며, 이를 통해 양측상지기능 치료 효과를 보기 위한 평가도구로 활용될 수 있기를 기대해 본다.

승용자동차 차로유지지원장치의 주행 성능 평가 (Road Test Scenario and Performance Assessments of Lane Keeping Assistance System for Passenger Vehicles)

  • Lane Keeping Assistance System (LKAS) is a kind of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) which are developed to automate/ adapt/ enhance vehicle systems for safety and better driving. The main system function of LKAS is to support the driver in keeping the vehicle within the current lane. LKAS acquires information on the position of the vehicle within the lane and, when required, sends commands to actuators to influence the lateral movement of the vehicle. Recently, the vehicles equipped with LKAS are commercially available in a few vehicle-advanced countries and the installation of LKAS increases for safety enhancement. The test procedures for LKAS evaluations are being discussed and developed in the international committees such as ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) and UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe). In Korea, the evaluations of LKAS for vehicle safety are planned to be introduced in 2016 KNCAP (Korean New Car Assessment Program). Therefore, the test procedures of LKAS suitable for domestic road and traffic conditions, which accommodate international standards, should be developed. In this paper, some bullet points of the test procedures for LKAS are discussed and proposed by extensive researches of previous documents and reports, which are released in public in regard to lateral test procedures including LKAS and Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS). And then, to evaluate the validity of the proposed test procedures, a series of experiments were conducted using commercially available two vehicles equipped with LKAS. Later, it can be helpful to make a draft considering domestic traffic situations for test procedures of LKAS.

Genetic Analysis of Milk Yield in First-Lactation Holstein Friesian in Ethiopia: A Lactation Average vs Random Regression Test-Day Model Analysis

  • The development of effective genetic evaluations and selection of sires requires accurate estimates of genetic parameters for all economically important traits in the breeding goal. The main objective of this study was to assess the relative performance of the traditional lactation average model (LAM) against the random regression test-day model (RRM) in the estimation of genetic parameters and prediction of breeding values for Holstein Friesian herds in Ethiopia. The data used consisted of 6,500 test-day (TD) records from 800 first-lactation Holstein Friesian cows that calved between 1997 and 2013. Co-variance components were estimated using the average information restricted maximum likelihood method under single trait animal model. The estimate of heritability for first-lactation milk yield was 0.30 from LAM whilst estimates from the RRM model ranged from 0.17 to 0.29 for the different stages of lactation. Genetic correlations between different TDs in first-lactation Holstein Friesian ranged from 0.37 to 0.99. The observed genetic correlation was less than unity between milk yields at different TDs, which indicated that the assumption of LAM may not be optimal for accurate evaluation of the genetic merit of animals. A close look at estimated breeding values from both models showed that RRM had higher standard deviation compared to LAM indicating that the TD model makes efficient utilization of TD information. Correlations of breeding values between models ranged from 0.90 to 0.96 for different group of sires and cows and marked re-rankings were observed in top sires and cows in moving from the traditional LAM to RRM evaluations.

The Prevalence of Undiagnosed Presurgical Cognitive Impairment and Its Postsurgical Clinical Impact in Older Patients Undergoing Lumbar Spine Surgery

  • Objective : Because elderly patients are undergoing more surgeries, the importance of postoperative cognitive impairment (CI) evaluations is rising, especially for spine surgery, which is related to subjective pain. We investigated the prevalence of undiagnosed CI among elderly patients who underwent spine surgery and the impact of CI on postoperative outcomes. Methods : The preoperative cognitive statuses of 129 patients over 65 who underwent lumbar spine surgery from 2012 to 2014 were determined with the Mini-Mental State Examination, and patients with scores under 24 were diagnosed with CI. The patients were then divided into a CI group (n=49) and non-cognitive impairment (NCI) group (n=80). Results : Among the 129 patients, 49 (38.0%) were diagnosed with CI, and 9 (7.0%) had severe CI. The age of the CI group ($72.88{\pm}6.20years$) was significantly greater than that of the NCI group ($69.96{\pm}4.53years$). In contrast, the postoperative visual analog scale scores and performance statuses did not differ significantly. However, postoperative delirium was more frequent and the hospital stay length was longer in the CI group compared with the NCI group (p<0.05). Conclusion : A high prevalence of undiagnosed CI was discovered among elderly patients undergoing spine surgery. The existence of CI was associated with higher rates of postoperative delirium and prolonged hospital stays, which affected clinical outcomes. Thus, CI assessments should be included in preoperative evaluations of elderly patients prior to spine surgery.

소급성과 신뢰구간 개념을 적용한 개별차량단위 검지기 성능평가 (Individual Vehicle Level Detector Evaluation with Application of Traceability and Confidence Interval Concepts)

  • 실시간 교통정보는 현장에 설치된 차량검지기가 수집하는 교통량, 속도, 점유율 자료를 기반으로 생성된다. 따라서 검지기 성능을 일정수준으로 유지시키는 것이 중요하다. 이를 위해 ITS 관리기관에서는 주기적으로 검지기에 대한 성능평가를 수행한다. 일반적으로 검지기 성능평가는 기준값을 생성하는 장비(기준장비)와 평가대상 검지기가 수집하는 자료를 상호 비교함으로써 수행된다. 여기서 유의할 점은 기준장비 수집값 역시 평가대상 검지기 자료와 같이 오차 및 불확도를 포함하고 있다는 것이다. 또한 검지기 평가가 표본집단에 대해 이루어지기 때문에 이를 모집단의 결과로 표현하기 위해서는 신뢰구간 개념이 적용되어야 한다. 그러나 현재 국내 검지기 성능평가는 합리적인 방법론 부재로 인해 기준값 불확도 및 신뢰구간 개념을 적용하지 않고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 기준값 불확도 및 신뢰구간 개념을 적용한 성능평가 방법론을 제시했고, 이를 루프, 영상, 레이더 검지기 성능평가에 적용했다. Over-count, Under-count 상쇄효과를 제거하기 위해 개별차량단위 자료를 평가하였고 그 결과, 제시된 방법론이 검지기 성능평가에 효과적으로 적용될 수 있음을 입증하였다.
