Survey on Nurses's Perception Changes of Patient Safety Culture (일 병원 간호사의 환자안전문화에 대한 인식변화)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate perception of patient safety culture among hospital nurses. Methods: There were four steps in this study; education about patient safety culture, pre-test, nursing activities for patient safety, post-test. A questionnaire was distributed twice to all nurses in one hospital. Pretest data were collected from April 1 to April 20 and posttest from November 15 to November 25, 2013. For the pretest data, 302 data sets were analyzed and for the posttest, 266. SPSS 12.0 was used for descriptive analysis. Results: Overall perception of nurses on patient safety culture was "moderate"(3.27). For general characteristics, there was a significant difference in patient safety culture according to work unit and length of employment. Attitude to leaders was significantly different according to nurses' age, position and work unit. Organizational culture was significantly different according to nurses' age and work unit. System of patient safety was significantly different according to work environment. In the posttest, the mean score improved. Conclusion: Results indicate that patient safety cultural perception is related to safety during nursing activities and systematic strategies to increase perception should be expanded through research and the development of new educational programs on patient safety culture.

Study on Status of Safety Accidents and Related Factors of the Cooks for School Foodservice in Daegu (대구 지역 학교 급식 조리사의 안전사고 실태 및 영향 요인에 관한 연구)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate status of safety accidents of school foodservice cooks in Daegu and to analyze the factors affecting the occurrence of the accidents in order to seek effective ways for preventing safety accidents in school foodservice. The survey showed that the most frequent safety accidents were 'bruises', followed by 'burns', 'contact with harmful substances such as disinfectants', 'fall-off ' and 'sprains'. The mental fatigue perception of the respondents was generally lower than the physical fatigue perception. The means of the perception levels of work intensity, cooking environment of the foodservice place, and safety-related behaviors, and consciousness were 3.15, 2.99, and 4.06 out of 5 points, respectively. In addition, the annual average of the number of participating in the accident prevention training per person was 17.34 times, that is, the respondents received the training at least once a month on average. A multiple regression analysis was conducted to investigate the variables affecting the occurrence of safety accidents that happened to foodservice cooks. It revealed that the work intensity perception and the cooking environment perception influenced the frequency of safety accidents.

Dentists' perception of the image and work performance of male dental hygienists (치과의사의 남자치과위생사에 대한 이미지 및 업무수행 관련 인식도)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to improve awareness of male dental hygiene by investigating the dentists' perception of male dental hygienists' image and work performance in clinical practice. Methods: The participants were 102 dentists who agreed to participate in this study. They completed- a self-administered questionnaire survey available on a website. The questionnaire comprised 26 questions, with each item scored on a 5-point Likert scale. Results: The male dentists perceived that with an increase in the experience of male dental hygienists would be willing to pay more than for female dental hygienists. In the case of male dentists, male dental hygienists perceived that they would feel stressed in a women-centered work environment. Additionally, it was found that dentists who had experience working with Male dental hygienists responded more positively to work performance awareness than had no experience (p<0.05). Conclusions: Active employment of male dental hygienists in clinical practice, could positively change dentists' perception of male dental hygienists.

The Relationship between Work Environment factors, Perception of Insurance Crime and Job Satisfaction among Special Investigation Unit(SIU) (보험범죄특별조사팀(SIU)의 근무환경과 보험범죄에 대한 일반적 인식이 직무만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • Government organizations (including police, prosecutor, and Financial Supervisory Service) and programs to uncover or prevent from insurance crime are not well developed. However, insurance crime are increasing among not only private insurances such as life insurance, indemnity insurance, and auto insurance but also public insurances including national health insurance and industrial accident compensation insurance. The damages of crimes are serious in both economical and ethical perspectives. Insurance crime deteriorates a current account of insurance companies and the leakages due to insurance fraud worsen loss ratio. Consequently, insurance crime increases customers' costs of insurance. For this reason, insurance companies stated to establish Special Investigation Unit(SIU) to detect insurance crime and fraud by themselves. However, organizational and operational efficiencies are limited. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between work environment factors, perception of insurance crime and job satisfaction among Special Investigation Units. Therefore, this study investigated the perception of work environments of Special Investigation Units. In addition, this study examined how their work environments and general perception of insurance crime influence their job satisfaction. In order test the purpose of this study, reliability test, exploratory factor analysis(EFA), multiple regression were employed. The results of this study suggested that clarity of insurance company, distress/difficulty of resolve, compensation, perception of work pressure are statistically significant on jab satisfaction among Special Investigation Unit in South Korea. This exploratory study expected to contribute to understanding of Special Investigation Unit, and their insurance crime prevention system. The results from this analysis will be examined in light of previous findings and policy implications discussed.

The Appropriateness of Wage and Job Satisfaction of Radiological Technologists (방사선사의 임금 적정성 및 직무 만족도)

  • This study aims to provide the basic data helpful for the improvement of rights and interests of radiological technologists, by understanding the current working environment and if they get the proper reward through the analysis on the perception of appropriateness of current wage and job satisfaction of radiological technologists. Survey was conducted to evaluate the perception of satisfaction with job and wage system, work intensity, necessity of the radiological technologist limit system, and turnover in accordance. The appropriate starting salary was low in case of women and non-capital area, and when the age, academic background, career, and hospital size were lower. The appropriate wage was low in case of women and non-capital area, and when the academic background and hospital size were lower. The negative perception of the necessity to change the wage system was shown in university hospitals. Regarding the work intensity, in case of women and low career, and when the age, academic background, and hospital size were higher, the work intensity was perceived as high. When the academic degree and hospital size were lower, the positive perception of the radiological technologist limit was shown. The turnover intention was high in case of women, and when the age, academic background, career, and hospital size were lower. In order to increase the job satisfaction of radiological technologists, it would be necessary to the appropriate reward and the environment where they could concentrate on work.

Relative factors intent to leave for dental hygienists (치과위생사의 이직관련 요인)

  • Objectives : This study was to find out the status of job satisfaction and intent to leave the job for dental hygienists, and those factors affecting their intent to leave, so as to prevent dental hygienists from leaving their jobs in advance, and to strive for extending the life span of the job, contributing to improve dental care services provided by dental hygienists. Methods : The data were collected from 280 dental hygienists working in dental clinics or hospitals in Busan and Gyeongnam area by using a structured and self-administered questionnaire through mail, from February 1 to March 15, 2009, and were analyzed by using SPSS WIN 14.0 program. Results : First, It was the most prevalent for the dental hygienists surveyed to be between 100 to 149 thousand won in the level of monthly as 42.3%, and to be the assistance of dental examination and treatment for main duty as 62.5%. Leaving job was experience by 51.6% of the subjects, with work condition as the most common reason for 32.2%. Second, the degree of job satisfaction was 3.4 points overall in the score of 5 point Likert's scale on the average, showing affirmative level above the average, and significantly different according to certain characteristics such as age, education level, total years of work career, years of work career in the current job, monthly salary level, whether to provide monthly paid leave, and the number of patients treated per day. It also was significantly correlated with some structural factors and variables consisting attitude and value, including equity in pay(r=0.612), job perception as dental hygienist(r=0.573), work environment(r=0.552), self growth(r=0.531), affirmative attitude(r=0.421), and so on. Third, the mean score of intent to leave was 2.73 overall and lower than the average, showing significant relationship with some characteristics, such as age, marital status, education level, total years of work career, years of work career in the current job, monthly salary level, whether to provide monthly paid leave, and the number of patients treated per day. Intent to leave also showed the highest correlation with job satisfaction(r=-0.708), followed by equity in pay(r=-0.482), self growth (r=-0.453), job perception as dental hygienist(r=-0.392), work environment(r=-0.362), etc. Forth, job satisfaction was significantly influenced by some factors including equity in pay, followed by job perception as dental hygienist, relationship with fellow colleagues, affirmative attitude and work environment, and so on. Fifth, the intent to leave was significantly affected not only by job satisfaction but also by some structural factors including equity in pay, self growth and job perception as dental hygienist. Conclusions : The above results showed that the equity in pay was the most important factor for the intent to leave the job as well as job satisfaction among dental hygienists, thus suggesting that systematic measures should be provided to improve the job satisfaction to prevent economic loss due to leaving job frequently, and to provide pertinent reward system as a profession to enhance the motivation for accomplishment on job for dental hygienists.

A study on retention intention of dental hygienists : focusing on the labor standards act (치과위생사의 재직의도에 관한 연구: 근로기준법을 중심으로)

  • Objectives: The objectives of this study were to find the influential factors of dental hygienists' work environment and level of perception of rights on their retention intention, and to provide basic data for protecting their rights and interests and improving their employment rate. Methods: From June 6 to July 24, 2021, a questionnaire survey was conducted among 214 dental hygienists via an online link. After questionnaire collection, IBM SPSS program (ver. 21.0; IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA) was used to conduct frequency analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA and multiple regression analysis. Results: The significant and positive influential factors of dental hygienists' retention intention were married individuals (p=0.022), fewer working hours (p<0.001, p=0.007), good work environment (p=0.002), higher wages (p<0.001, p<0.001), higher education (p=0.032), and perception of rights in a mid-level (p=0.038). Conclusions: It is necessary to consider wages and welfare equivalent to dental hygienists' work intensity and workload. By regularly educating dental hygienists to increase their perception of rights, expanding an opportunity of participation, and improving their work environment, it will be possible to increase their retention intention and efficiently establish manpower in dental clinics.

Remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic and perception of indoor environment: a focus on acoustic environment (코로나19 팬데믹 기간 재택근무 경험자의 실내환경 인식: 음환경을 중심으로)

  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the global population has experienced drastic changes, one of which is the increase in remote work. Given the ongoing possibility of exposure to infectious diseases and various other circumstances, the expansion of remote work is anticipated. To enhance the efficiency of remote work and address its existing limitations, this study surveyed the perceptions of indoor environments among individuals who worked from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study examined how the characteristics of individuals influenced their perceptions of indoor environments. It was found that the number of occupants and rooms, size of the house, and noise sensitivity affected the perceptions of outdoor noise, neighbor noise, and indoor noise caused by cohabitants. The findings can be used as foundational data for designing multipurpose housing that can be utilized not only for residential purposes but also for work and educational settings in the future.

  • The purpose of this study is for finding the demand and perception about color situation of the working environment including work places and working clothes according to the workers in the machinery automobile shipbuilding companies. Data were collected by questionnaire surveying 679 workers. The collected data were analysed through frequency, mean, cross tabs analysis by SPSS for windows 17.0. As a result, most of the workers responded that they were not satisfied with the current working environment and the colors of their working clothes. However, the workers held a perception that influence that the colors of the working environment has on their psychology and safety or the colors' role was relatively significant. And they had a very positive expectation for the effect of the working clothing's color planning. The study would serve as the beneficial information for formulating the safer and more pleasant working environment in industrial work places as well as a basic material for the subsequent research on colors.

The Effect of Head Nurses' Authentic Leadership Perceived by Nurses to Nurses' Organizational Politics Perception and Organizational Silence (간호사가 지각한 수간호사의 진성리더십과 조직정치지각이 조직침묵에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of head nurses' authentic leadership to nurses' organizational politics perception and organizational silence. Methods: A descriptive research design was used with a convenience sample of 201 nurses. Data were collected from Aug 7 to Sep 13, 2018 using self-reported questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The mean scores of authentic leadership of the head nurses perceived by nurses and nurses' organizational politics perception and organizational silence were 3.44 out of 5, 2.57 out of 5 and 2.62 out of 5, respectively. Nurses' organizational silence was negatively correlated with authentic leadership of the head nurse and positively correlated with nurses' organizational politics perception. Factors influencing on nurses' organizational silence were organizational politics perception, clinical career, authentic leadership of the head nurses and work life satisfaction which explained 38% of the variance. Conclusion: Based on the finding of this study, it is necessary to develop education and intervention programs in order to improve unreasonable and unfair job environment, enhance head nurses' authentic leadership, manage nurses' careers appropriately and raise the level of their work life satisfaction.
