Objectives : This study was to investigate the level of oral health, xerostomia, and oral health related activities of daily living(ADL) and the clinical factors influencing oral health related quality of life(OHIP-14) in elderly for visiting healthcare. Methods : Data were obtained from a cross-sectional survey of 106 elderly people(mean age=$77.5{\pm}4.98$). Participants in the study were recruited when they attended the public health center in Cheonan-si. Data were collected by means of a personal interview from July 19 through to August 20, 2010. Oral health related ADL, OHIP-14 and dry mouth was measured by the total 24-items. The data was analysed with t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression using the SPSS program. Results : Participants had a mean of 13.6 remaining natural teeth, which was significantly with age and perceived oral health. Xerostomia score achieved a mean of 6.39 out of a maximum 12 points. Powerful predictors of OHIP-14 were natural teeth, masticatory difficulty, oral pain, PHP index, perceived oral health, age and living together for the elderly Conclusions : Based on the findings, OHIP-14 has a significantly impact on oral health related ADL. These results suggest that elder people oral health promotion should be developed assessment index which was measured predictors related oral health in the elderly for visiting healthcare.
Objectives: This study aimed to examined the socioeconomic disparities in oral health related behaviors and to assess if those behaviors eliminate socioeconomic disparities in oral health in a nationally representative sample of adults aged 30-64. Methods: Data are from the Korea Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2005). Behaviors were indicated by smoking, over intake of daily calories from carbohydrate, perceived stress, frequency of daily tooth brushing, use of oral hygiene goods, insufficient oral treatment. Oral health outcomes were self-reported dental caries and periodontitis during the last 12 months and perceived oral health. Education, household income, and employed status indicated socioeconomic position. Sex, age, residential area, marital status were adjusted for in the logistic regression analysis. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess socioeconomic disparities in behaviors. Logistic regression model adjusting and not adjusting for behaviors were compared to assess the change in socioeconomic disparities in oral health. Results: Clear socioeconomic disparities in all behaviors were showed. After adjusting for behaviors, the association between oral health and socioeconomic indicators attenuated but did not disappear. For example, the odd ratios of reporting poorer oral health for persons in no education or elementary school education and middle school education groups, compared with college or higher education group, were 1.77 (95% CI: 1.36-2.29) and 1.56 (1.19-1.97), respectively. After adjusting for all indicators of behaviors, these odds ratios attenuated to 1.54 (1.17-2.03) and 1.48 (1.15-1.91) for those groups, respectively. Conclusion: These findings suggest that the presence of more complex determinants of socioeconomic disparities in oral health should be considered with developing preventive policies for those disparities.
This study attempted to identify the entrance exam stress levels in high school students and analyze the relationship this entrance exam stress and perceived oral health status. Self-administered survey was conducted in total 304 students attending in academic high schools in Bucheon. For analysis, SPSS was used to perform t-test and one-way ANOVA. As a result of the study, the entrance exam stress level of academic high school students was 2.71. The level of sub-factors were that tension for exam/poor result was highest by 3.08 and the next were future uncertainty (2.81), parents pressure (2.56), and insufficient free time (2.52). The group with high entrance exam stress showed significantly high perceived degrees of temporomandibular disorder, oral mucosal disease and xerostama. Among sub-factors of stress, the group with high tension for exam/poor result stress had significantly high perceived degrees of dental caries, teporomandibular disorder, oral mucosal disease and xerostama. Because perception on oral health issues increased with high entrance exam stress in high school students, it is necessary to seek some ways to decrease oral health problems even though entrance exam stress is intensified. To do so, it is inferred that it will be very important to promote oral health education to develop ability of high school students to practice correct oral management method.
Objective: This study was to investigate the relationship between hemoglobin A1c level and self-reported oral health status. Methods: The subjects of this study were 150 diabetic patients (60 male patients and 90 female patients) who went to the internal and family medicine departments of clinic. This study used the questionnaire and NYCOCARD$\square$ READERII to quantify hemoglobin A1c. Results: The proportion of well controlled diabetes subjects was 31.3%. When hemoglobin A1c levels became higher, subjects perceived that there were more decay teeth, bleeding, swollen gums, mobility teeth, and oral disease symptoms. In comparison with the well glycemic control group, poor glycemic control group perceived that the overall oral health status was worse, and had more bleeding teeth, swollen gums and mobility teeth. Conclusion: These results show that hemoglobin A1c level is related to the self-reported oral health status. Therefore, dental professionals should emphasize more the necessity of maintaining the hemoglobin A1c of normal range and monitoring it periodically, and the practice of thorough oral hygiene care in order to promote diabetic patients' oral health.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of oral health impact profile in two urban area The respondents enrolled in this study were elderly people aged 65years from Gwang-ju city, Sunchon city. A total of 371 participants(Gwang-ju city 161, Sunchon city 210) analyzed. The contents of the research were social demographic characteristics, self perceived need for dental care, attributes related to denture, dental visiting pattern, the perceptions regarding dental health condition, and OHIP-14. 1. In the comparison Two urban area, the perceptions regarding dental health condition, self perceived need for dental care, dental visiting pattern was statistically significant difference(p<0.05). 2. Among the 7 OHIP-14 subscales, the mean scores of physical disability were significantly higher in two urban area(p<0.05). 3. The Social demographic characteristics, OHIP-14 represented a statistically significant difference related to gender, age and denture use(p<0.05). Through this research, Both Gwang-ju city and Sunchon city was found that elderly people was more negative impact of physical disability on oral health related quality of life. Therefore need to oral health program for improving oral health in the elderly people.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of dental caries, periodontal status, and self-perceived oral health status of students in juvenile protection education institutions. The subjects of this study were 342 adolescents aged 13-20 years detained in two juvenile protection education institutions located in Gyeonggi Province. The study involved an oral examination to record decayed, missing, filled teeth and index teeth with bleeding, calculus, or periodontal pocket, combined with a questionnaire to investigate self-perceived oral health status. The main findings are as follows. 1. When compared with the result of National oral health survey, the students detained had more decayed teeth, DMFT, and teeth with bleeding, calculus, and shallow pocket than general population of the same age. 2. Female students showed more DMFT, more teeth with healthy periodontium, and fewer teeth with shallow pocket than male students (p<0.05). 3. Female students perceived their health to be poorer than male students (p<0.05). A majority(79.2%) of detainee valued their oral health in their life. 4. A majority(71.5%) of detainee reported their dental anxiety, and more female adolescents showed dental anxiety than male adolescents(p<0.05).
The purpose of this study was to identify the major variables against oral health promotion behaviors for collegian in Ulsan area. The measured variables for the oral promotion behaviors presently are previous oral health experience, stress by study, subjective oral health, perceived benefit, perceived barrier, self-esteem, self-efficacy, social support, oral health LOC(locus of control), life satisfaction, emotion and intension based on the Pender's 3th health model as a theoretical model in general health promotion behavior. Total data 330 were analyzed by SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0 program and path analysis method was used to verify the model's fitness. Results for this study were as follows: Firstly, the fitness degrees of research model was ${\chi}^2=39.06$(P>.05), GFI = .982, AGFI = .948, NFI = .967, NNFI = .982, RMSR = .028, so it was apparent that this model was well fitted. Secondly, 27 out of 39 total paths were turned out correspond with the hypothetical model which accepted as direct effect. And two paths had statistical significance in direct. Thirdly, the most positive influences on the oral health promotion behaviors presently were previous oral health experience, subjective oral health, social support, self-efficacy, intension, oral health LOC. And the most negative influences was perceived barrier. So, results from this model we could contribute to identify theirs oral health behavior patterns for collegian in Ulsan.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to survey dental prosthesis and dental prosthesis needs of elderly for improving oral health status. Methods: The data collected from 'The fifth Korean national health and nutrition examination survey 2010' was analyzed in this study. Statistical analysis was done using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 19.0 for Windows. We determined frequencies and percentage, calculating means, and standard deviations, and determined statistical significance using cross-tabulation analysis, logistic regression analysis. Results: General characteristics showed differences in mandible fixed crown bridge needs associated with periodontal disease. General characteristics showed differences in maxillar partial and full denture with gender, age, education, perceived oral health. General characteristics showed differences in mandible partial and full denture with age, residence, education, perceived oral health. Conclusion: In order to improve oral health of the elderly, Dental prosthesis support policy and oral health policy are necessary.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to identify the main variables of difference in high school students' oral health promotion behaviors among adolescents and to improve their academic and oral health promotion behaviors. Methods : The research subjects consisted of 311 high school students in Jeonju. Results : The adequacy of the hypothetical model accounted for 46.9 % of the oral health promotion behavior. The Redundancy of all variables showed the value of the positive values, indicating that the Goodness of fit was greater than the optimum value of the model, and the model of the PLS was a desirable model. The effects of perceived benefits, self efficacy, and social support on oral health promotion behaviors were found to be higher in oral health promotion behaviors. Conclusions : This study is expected to have a significant impact on the perception of the oral health promotion for adolescents in the future and will contribute to the expansion and generalization of Pender's oral health promotion model.
Objectives: This study analyzed the relationship between BMI (body mass index), perceived health status, and oral health behaviors of schoolgirls. Methods: This study utilized data from the 13th (2017) Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey. A total of 29,337 schoolgirls were analyzed. Statistical analysis was performed using PASW Statistics 21.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). Results: Compared to the obese group, the rate of being recognized as healthy was 1.882 times higher in the normal-weight group and 1.623 times in the underweight group. The rate of using supplementary oral hygiene devices was 1.383 times higher in the underweight group and 1.091 times in the normal-weight group than in the obese group. Compared to the obese group, the experience rate of the sealant was 1.407 times in the underweight group. Compared to the obese group, the scaling experience rate was 1.282 times higher for the underweight group and 1.205 times for the normal-weight group. Conclusions: These results suggest that individual health behaviors are interrelated. There is a need for an integrated approach in the planning and implementation of future health promotion strategies, and it would be useful to design a program that considers health characteristics such as BMI.
