Consumer Response to Seller-Induced Perishability: Perceived Desirability of Products, Urge to Buy, and Purchase Acceleration

  • The implementation of a short renewal cycle has become one of the competitive alternatives for apparel retailers to respond quickly to fast-changing consumer tastes. This strategic orientation affects consumer decision-making by inducing perishability of the store offerings. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of perceived seller-induced perishability (as a result of a short renewal cycle) on perceived desirability of products urge to buy and purchase acceleration. The proposed model was tested in a field setting with female shoppers from two leading fast fashion retailers in the United States. This study found that perceived seller-induced perishability significantly enhances the perceived desirability of products and intensify the urge to buy while shopping which in turn accelerates purchases. In addition to perceived seller-induced perishability perceived desirability of products also contributed to intensifying the urge to buy. A number of theoretical and managerial implications were discussed and major areas of future research were suggested.

창업교육이 공과대학생의 진로결정에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Entrepreneurship Education on Career Decision for College Engineering Students)

  • This study examined the effects of entrepreneurship education on the career decision of students in the College of Engineering. The purpose of this study was to examine the perceived desirability, perceived feasibility and the career decision - making effects of career decision - making self - efficacy as subjects of entrepreneurship education. This study was carried out by using PLS 3.0 for engineering students in an university. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, it shows that entrepreneurship education has a positive impact on perceived desirability, perceived feasibility. Second, perceived desirability and perceived feasibility have different effects on career decision making and entrepreneurship intention. Third, career decision self - efficacy affects entrepreneurship intention and career intention in career decision making. The results of this study suggest the importance of entrepreneurship education for career decision making and provide meaningful implications for educators and policy developers.

The Effect of Social Capital on Social Entrepreneurial Intention among Vietnamese Students

  • This study develops the model to estimate the links between social capital, social entrepreneurial self-efficacy, perceived desirability and social entrepreneurial intention. Besides exploring the direct impacts of social capital, social entrepreneurial self-efficacy, and perceived desirability on social entrepreneurial intention, this study also focus on discovering the mediating roles of perceived desirability and social entrepreneurial self-efficacy on this relationship. Throughout adopting measures from some previous studies, the authors design the questionnaires and distribute to students in Vietnam. The study presents some demographic information of 289 students, who are studying at university and colleges in Vietnam. Then, the validity and reliability of scales are assessed using the value of Cronbach's alpha, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). In addition, by utilizing the structural modeling structure (SEM), the authors show that social capital plays the important role in shaping social entrepreneurial self-efficacy, perceived desirability, and social entrepreneurial intention. Interestingly, besides the direct effects on social entrepreneurial intention, perceived desirability and social entrepreneurial self-efficacy also mediate the correlation between social capital and social entrepreneurial intention. Also, with the interesting findings of the study, the authors propose several recommendations for policy-makers, educators and academics to promote the social entrepreneurship and innovation among Vietnamese students.

직장인의 직무불안정성과 기업가정신이 창업의도에 미치는 영향: Shapero의 창업이벤트모델을 중심으로 (The Effect of Job Insecurity and Entrepreneurship on the Entrepreneurial Intention: Focusing on Shapero's Entrepreneurial Event Model)

  • 최근의 악화되고 있는 고용지표를 개선하고, 세계적인 경기침체 국면을 돌파하기 위해서는 창업의 활성화 및 창업의 성공률 제고가 요구된다. 본 연구의 목적은 관련 분야의 지식과 경험 및 네트워크를 보유한 직장인을 창업가로 전환시키는 요인과 그 경로를 밝힘으로써, 창업활성화를 위한 시사점을 제시하고 창업 성공률 제고에 기여하고자 함에 있다. 본 연구에서는 Shapero(1982)의 창업이벤트 모델을 기반으로 하여, 직장인의 직무불안정성과 기업가정신이 창업의도의 촉진사건이 되는지와 창업에 대한 소망성 및 실현가능성의 지각이 그 사이를 매개하는지를 살펴보았다. 연구 결과를 정리해보면 첫째, 직장인의 고용불안정성과 혁신성 및 위험감수성이 창업의도를 높이는 요인임을 확인하였다. 둘째, 직무불안정성의 구성 요소와 창업의도 사이에서 지각된 소망성의 간접효과는 모두 유의하지 않았으나, 기업가정신의 모든 구성 요소는 창업에 대한 소망성의 지각을 통해 창업의도를 높이는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 고용불안정성과 혁신성 및 위험감수성은 창업에 대한 실현가능성의 지각을 통해 창업의도를 강화하는 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구를 통해 창업 역량을 보유한 직장인을 창업가로 전환시키기 위해서는 직장인에 대한 창업교육과 사내벤처의 지원을 강화하고 시니어창업 및 사내벤처창업 지원을 확대함으로써 창업에 대한 긍정적 태도와 실행에 대한 자신감을 고취시킬 필요가 있음을 확인하였다. 직장인의 창업 지원 강화로 창업 활성화 및 창업 성공률이 제고된다면, 일자리 문제를 해결하고 침체된 경기를 회복시키는 등 국내 경제에 활력을 불어넣을 것으로 기대된다.

조직신뢰와 오류관리문화와의 관계에 대한 연구 - 사회복지이용시설을 중심으로 - (A Study of the Causal Relationship between Organizational Trust and Error Management Culture across Social Service Agencies)

  • 본 연구는 크게 두 가지의 연구목적을 갖는다. 첫째, 사회복지연구에 있어서 개념적 중요성이 높은 조직신뢰와 오류관리문화와의 관계를 검증함으로써 오류관리문화의 이론적 위치를 검증한다. 둘째, 이전 연구와는 다르게 사회복지사의 직무특수성을 반영하는 일가치감과 측정의 타당도 제고를 위한 사회적 바람직성의 영향력에 주목하면서 연구모형 적확성 제고를 위한 제언을 시도한다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 서울 경기지역의 사회복지이용시설 즉 종합사회복지관, 장애인복지관, 노인복지관에 근무하는 경력 2년 이상의 사회복지사를 대상으로 층화표집 방법을 활용하여 조사된 564명의 자료를 활용한다. 주요 분석결과를 중심으로 핵심 논의를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 조직신뢰에 대하여 인구사회학적 변수를 통제한 상태에서 사회적 바람직성의 증분설명량이 유의하게 나타남에 따라 향후 측정의 타당도 제고를 위해 제3변수 효과에 의한 체계적 편향방지 가능성에 대하여 논의하였다. 둘째, 조직신뢰에 대하여 인구사회학적 변수와 사회적 바람직성을 통제한 상태에서 사회복지사의 직무특수성을 나타내는 일가치감의 증분설명량이 유의하게 나타남에 따라 향후 연구에서 연구모형구성의 적확성을 제고하기 위한 방안에 대해 논의하였다. 셋째, 조직신뢰에 대하여 인구사회학적 변수, 사회적 바람직성, 사회복지사의 일가치감을 통제한 상태에서 오류관리문화의 증분설명력은 사회복지이용시설별로 유의하게 나타남에 따라 오류관리문화의 이론적 함의와 오류관리문화 정착을 위한 실천적 함의에 대하여 논의하였다.

How Desirable is the Medium? Effect of Point Accumulation Scheme on Consumer Loyalty Toward Reward Program

  • An accruable point scenario study was applied to examine the effect of the point-accumulation trend (diminishing vs. increasing) and the nominal value (small vs. large) of a medium for repeated consumption on program loyalty. The results showed that both factors affect consumer loyalty toward a reward program. Consumers who received a medium with an increasing accumulation trend and a large nominal value perceived a reward to be more valuable than those who received a diminishing trend and a small nominal value. The results confirmed that a large nominal value or an increasing accumulation trend increased the perception of reward and program loyalty. However, when the desirability of the medium was controlled, the effect of trend was reduced to almost negligible whereas that of the nominal value remained the same. These findings suggest how consumer perceptions of loyalty programs can be practically managed through point accumulation processes.

Apparel design evaluation process from users' perceived values

  • Apparel design is an economic activity to create values for users over the value chain of a product. In this paper, the contribution of apparel design is defined as the enhancement of users' perceived values by improving users' experience of products. In this context, the value of a product corresponds to compensation for experience or a promise for experience of a product. Experience can be sensory or psychological benefits to users. To evaluate the value of apparel design, the researcher identified and analyzed the apparel design parameters affecting users' experience and benefits of products such as macro-, micro-environmental factors, value chain factors, apparel designer factors, and user factors. For an analytical modeling of the values of apparel design, this paper introduces the concept of a utility function from economics. In economics, utility is a measure of desirability or satisfaction that can be correlative to need or desire. The measure of value can be found in the price which a user is willing to pay for the fulfillment or satisfaction of need or desire via the experience of a product.

Social Network Service에서의 사용자 저항에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Factors Affecting the User Resistance in Social Network Service)

  • Purpose: The widespread use of social network services (SNS) has caused users concern about the disclosure of their privacy or personal information. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors of privacy concern and self presentation that affect the user resistance in the use of social network service. Methods: This study verifies the factors that affecting the user resistance in SNS. The research model suggested in this study is tested via a survey of 260 SNS users. SPSS and Smart PLS had been used to test the suggested hypotheses. Results: This study shows that privacy experience, privacy awareness, self esteem, and social desirability significantly influence perceived risk and that privacy awareness, self esteem, self efficacy, and perceived risk significantly influence perceived trust. It also verifies that perceived risk and perceived trust positively affect user resistance. Conclusion: This paper suggests that high awareness on privacy of SNS user encourages the SNS companies to consider the privacy protection mechanism for eliminating various factors that affecting the risk. This study also shows that the privacy calculus model applies to understanding the mechanism on resistance of SNS user.

"This Unfavorable Poll Result for My Candidate Doesn't Affect Me but Others": Third-Person Perception in Election Poll Coverage

  • The third-person perception phenomenon can consistently be found in opinion poll news, but it remains unknown what determines the degree of the third-person perception (TPP) about specific election poll news. We investigated how respondents' preferred candidate's status in the poll affects the perceived impact of polling news on both themselves (PMI1) and on others (PMI3) as well as TPP (PMI3 - PMI1). We also examined the effect of subjective political knowledge and the perceived level of political knowledge of others on TPP. An online experiment was conducted in the context of a gubernatorial election in South Korea, in which the leading candidate in the poll and the question order (self-question first vs. other-question first) were manipulated. The results indicated that PMI1 and PMI3 were greater when the respondent's preferred candidate was leading in the poll. TPP did not differ depending on subjective knowledge, but it was greater when the others were non-experts (vs. experts). Lastly, question order was found to be a method factor that affected both PMI1 and PMI3. The theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed.

Determinants Influencing Entrepreneurial Intention among Undergraduates in Universities of Vietnam

  • The paper aims to identify the determinants that influence entrepreneurial intention among National Economics University graduates. For the sample size, we conducted a questionnaire survey of 250 full-time third-year undergraduates at the National Economics University, with convenience sampling technique. Of those 250 undergraduates, 150 were Business Administration students and 100 Economy Management students. After eliminating invalid responses due to lack of information or low quality information, 215 responses were used (93.07% of respondents) for data analysis. The results show that the factor "Perceived desirability" has the strongest impact on the intention to start a business. It is followed by the factor "Perceived feasibility" in which the "ability to search and plan for start-up" has a stronger influence on undergraduates' entrepreneurial intention than the "leadership and ability to overcome adversity". The hypothesis of a positive relationship between undergraduates' propensity to act and their intention to start a business is also supported in this study. Based on the results, we suggest some recommendations for the university and State management agencies to nurture and develop entrepreneurial intention of undergraduates, forming the young generation of potential entrepreneurs to contribute to the development of emerging countries such as Vietnam, the case study.
