Powered toothbrush : who uses it and how to use? (전동칫솔 누가 어떻게 사용해야 하는가?)

  • Since early model of powered toothbrush (Broxadent) was introduced in the 1960s, the design of powered toothbrush has changed significantly. Today powered toothbrushes can be categorized as mechanical and sonic. The main patterns of movements in the modern powered toothbrushes are oscillation, reciprocation, and rotational. Powered brushes especially helpful for people who have disabilities or dexterity issue. These brushes are also highly recommended for patients who require a larger handle because these are easier to grasp. By systematic review of Cochrane group in 2014, powered toothbrushes reduced dental plaque and gingivitis more than manual toothbrushing in the short and long term. Now we can recommend powered toothbrushes to people who need to enhance self-control dental plaque removal efficacy.

  • This research suggests real-time people-powered Q&A system that overcoming limitation of natural language handling technology that Q&A system has and demerits that unrelated documents are included in the results of searching in existing information retrieval system and can adapt to change to Web2.0 environment by actively applying users' participation and providing real-time information to users' request of information.

  • The objective of this paper is to develop a powered wheelchair controller based on EMG for users with high-level spinal cord injury using a proportional control scheme. An advantage of EMG is relative convenience of acquisition by a surface electrode to users. Direction information can be easily extracted from two EMG channels and force information can be acquired by proportional relationship between the amplitude of EMG and user's power, respectively. Pattern classification algorithm is a threshold method with a supervised learning process. Furthermore, the emergency situation can be avoided using an interrupt function. We evaluated the performance of powered wheelchair controller by navigating a pre-defined path with three non-handicapped people. The results show the feasibility of EMG as an input interface for powered wheelchair and other devices for the seriously disabled.

  • Flexible, wearable, and implantable electronic sensors have started to gain popularity in improving the quality of life of sick and healthy people, shifting the future paradigm with high sensitivity. However, conventional technologies with a limited lifespan occasionally limit their continued usage, resulting in a high cost. In addition, traditional battery technologies with a short lifespan frequently limit operation, resulting in a substantial challenge to their growth. Subsequently, utilizing human biomechanical energy is extensively preferred motion for biologically integrated, self-powered, functioning devices. Ideally suited for this purpose are piezoelectric energy harvesters. To convert mechanical energy into electrical energy, devices must be mechanically flexible and stretchable to implant or attach to the highly deformable tissues of the body. A systematic analysis of piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs) for personalized healthcare is provided in this article. This article briefly overviews PENGs as self-powered sensor devices for energy harvesting, sensing, physiological motion, and healthcare.

  • Recently, according to demands for a mobility right of people with disabilities, the use of powered mobility device has been rapidly increased and recharging facilities have been set up in many places of country. But the standards for the installation and management of the facilities are not clear and many problems are brought up in operating the facilities. Therefore, regulations and realities of recharging facilities were investigated and the user survey was progressed. On the basis of the research results, a rational and efficient installation and management plan was drawn up. The plan suggests that the recharging facilities should be installed in a building managed by government and many kinds of public building like library, theater, sports facilities, department store, museum, etc. Further, the recharging facilities should secure independent place which have specified area for protecting of privacy and provide some amenities for people with disabilities to enhance the conveniences.

  • Sounds of electrically powered vehicle components such as window lift system, roller blind, etc., are required to be more comfortable and not to irritate the people emotionally. In this paper, a study was conducted to identify the significant sound quality metric and compose the luxuriousness sound quality index of electrically powered vehicle roller blind which is part of vehicle sunroof system. Before conducting subjective evaluation, sound characteristics of roller blind was analyzed and set the target operating sound for subjective evaluation. Thus, transfer sound of roller blind which has the characteristics of sound modulation was used for subjective evaluation. Multiple linear regression analysis was carried out by chosen Zwicker's metrics which are pointed by comments of jurors. Loudness and sharpness related metrics are prime metrics in luxuriousness sound quality index we composed. Also, effect of roller blind assay when it is attached to real vehicle was identified to evaluate the validity of index.

  • Power can be generated from either renewable or non-renewable sources. Renewable sources are liked to maintain a strategic distance from contamination emanation and rely on upon fossil energizes which is decreasing day by day. The proposed sun powered vitality transformation unit comprises of a sun oriented exhibit, Bidirectional DC-DC converter, single stage inverter and AC.   • Remarkable developments in the electric and electronic industry have given people's daily life much more convenience and abundance. However, in electrical communication, or electric and electronic fields, making electrical and electronic devices more functional, more integrated, and faster have put electromagnetic interference(EMI) into more complex forms, and lots of problems such as interruption, malfunction, or interference by noise between electrical communication systems occurs every day. In this research, the electromagnetic compatibility(EMC) filter in the high powered breaker was designed and fabricated as a counter measure. The filter attenuated noise more than 20${\sim}$50 dB in the range of 10 MHz${\sim}$1.5 GHz. And, when the electric fast transient(EFT) of 4 kV in the level 4 of IEC 61000-4-4 was induced, it was soon suppressed to 600 V.

  • Due to the recent Corona 19 outbreak, camping culture is rapidly drawing attention from many people. Convective heating devices, which many campers use during winter, have the temperature stratification problem. To solve this problem, various power circulators are being used. Several non-powered circulators are also on sale, but the direction of the circulator is designed to be at the right angle relative to the convection heating mechanism and the circulator does not properly play the role of air circulation. To solve this problem, a 3D printer is used to design a non-powered circulator in the same direction as the convection heating mechanism. Electricity is generated without power using Peltier element and ceramic paper and the circulator is produced to withstand heat using HTPLA-CF filament. This study presents a method to solve the temperature stratification problem through efficient convective circulation. In addition, the purpose of this study is to manufacture products at a lower cost by using a 3D printer.

A Biosignal-Based Human Interface Controlling a Power-Wheelchair for People with Motor Disabilities

  • An alternative human interface enabling people with severe motor disabilities to control an assistive system is presented. Since this interface relies on the biosignals originating from the contraction of muscles on the face during particular movements, even individuals with a paralyzed limb can use it with ease. For real-world application, a dedicated hardware module employing a general-purpose digital signal processor was implemented and its validity tested on an electrically powered wheelchair. Furthermore, an additional attempt to reduce error rates to a minimum for stable operation was also made based on the entropy information inherent in the signals during the classification phase. In the experiments, most of the five participating subjects could control the target system at their own will, and thus it is found that the proposed interface can be considered a potential alternative for the interaction of the severely disabled with electronic systems.
