  • Hand region detection in images is an important process in many computer vision applications. It is a process that usually starts at a pixel-level, and that involves a pre-process of color space transformation followed by a classification process. A color space transformation is assumed to increase separability between skin classes for hands and non-skin classes for other parts, to increase similarity among different skin tones, and to bring a robust performance under varying illumination conditions, without any sound reasonings. In this work, we examine if the color space transformation does bring those benefits to the problem of hand region detection on a dataset of images with different hand postures, backgrounds, people, and illuminations. Results indicate that best of the color space is the normalized RGB.

  • In this paper, we have implemented a low-cost mobile robot supporting the person tracking by detection using RGB-D cameras and ROS(Robot Operating System) framework. The mobile robot was developed based on the Kobuki mobile base equipped with 2's Kinect devices and a high performance controller. One kinect device was used to detect and track the single person among people in the constrained working area by combining point cloud data filtering & clustering, HOG classifier and Kalman Filter-based estimation successively, and the other to perform the SLAM-based navigation supported in ROS framework. In performance evaluation, the person tracking by detection was proved to be robustly executed in real-time, and the navigation function showed the accuracy with the mean distance error being lower than 50mm. The mobile robot implemented has a significance in using the open-source based, general-purpose and low-cost approach.

  • Emergency medical information center performs role of medical direction about disease consult and pre-hospital emergency handling scheme work to people. Emergency medical information system plays a major role to be decreased mortality and disability of emergency patient by providing information of medical institution especially when emergency patient has appeared. But, various attacks as a hacking have been happened in Emergency medical information system recently. In this paper, we proposed security structure which can protect the system securely by detecting attacks from outside effectively. Intrusion detection was performed using rule based detection technique according to protocol for every packet to detect attack and intrusion was reported to control center if intrusion was detected also. Intrusion detection was performed again using decision tree for packet which intrusion detection was not done. We experimented effectiveness using attacks as TCP-SYN, UDP flooding and ICMP flooding for proposed security structure in this paper.

  • As the World Wide Web (WWW) has become a major channel for information delivery, the data accumulated in the Internet increases at an incredible speed, and it derives the advances of information search technologies. It is the search engine that solves the problem of information overloading and helps people to identify relevant information. However, as search engines become a powerful tool for finding information, the opportunities of plagiarizing have increased significantly in e-Learning. In this paper, we developed an online plagiarism detection system for detecting plagiarized documents that incorporates the functions of search engines and acts in exactly the same way of plagiarizing. The plagiarism detection system uses morpheme analysis to improve the performance and sentence-based comparison to investigate document comes from multiple sources. As a result of applying this system in e-Learning, the performance of plagiarism detection was improved.

  • In this paper, we propose a real-time drone-based violent protest detection system. Our proposed system uses drones to detect scenes of violent protest in real-time. The important problem is that the victims and violent actions have to be manually searched in videos when the evidence has been collected. Firstly, we focused to solve the limitations of existing collecting evidence devices by using drone to collect evidence live and upload in AWS(Amazon Web Service)[1]. Secondly, we built a Deep Learning based violence detection model from the videos using Yolov3 Feature Pyramid Network for human activity recognition, in order to detect three types of violent action. The built model classifies people with possession of gun, swinging pipe, and violent activity with the accuracy of 92, 91 and 80.5% respectively. This system is expected to significantly save time and human resource of the existing collecting evidence.

  • In recent years, falls among elderly people have gained serious attention as a major cause of injuries. Falls often lead to fatal consequences due to lack of prompt response and rescue. Therefore, a more accurate fall detection system and an effective feature extraction technique are required to prevent and reduce the risk of such incidents. In this paper, we proposed an efficient feature extraction technique based on multiple sliding windows and validated it through a series of experiments using supervised learning algorithms. The experiments were conducted using the public datasets obtained from tri-axial accelerometers. The results depicted that extraction of the feature from adjacent sliding windows led to high accuracy in supervised machine learning-based fall detection. Also, the experiments conducted in this study suggested that the best accuracy can be achieved by keeping the window size as small as 2 seconds. With the kNN classifier and dataset from wearable sensors, the experiments achieved accuracy rates of 94%.

  • This paper presents a method for detection of an emergency signal expressed by arm gestures based on motion segmentation and face area detection in the surveillance system. The important indicators of emergency can be arm gestures and voice. We define an emergency signal as the 'Help Me' arm gestures in a rectangle around the face. The 'Help Me' arm gestures are detected by tracking changes in the direction of the horizontal motion vectors of left and right arms. The experimental results show that the proposed method successfully detects 'Help Me' emergency signal for a single person and distinguishes it from other similar arm gestures such as hand waving for 'Bye' and stretching. The proposed method can be used effectively in situations where people can't speak, and there is a language or voice disability.

  • With the development of computer music notation programs, when drawing sheet music, it is often drawn using a computer. However, there are still many use of hand-written notations for educational purposes or to quickly draw sheet music such as listening and dictating. In previous studies, OMR focused on recognizing the printed music sheet made by music notation program. the result of handwritten OMR with camera is poor because different people have different writing methods, and lens distortion. In this study, as a pre-processing process for recognizing handwritten music sheet, we propose a method for recognizing a staff using linear regression and a method for recognizing a bar using CNN. F1 scores of staff recognition and barline detection are 99.09% and 95.48%, respectively. This methodologies are expected to contribute to improving the accuracy of handwriting.

  • In recent years, the image processing mechanisms are used widely in several medical areas for improving earlier detection and treatment stages, in which the time factor is very important to discover the disease in the patient as possible as fast, especially in various cancer tumors such as the liver cancer. Liver cancer has been attracting the attention of medical and sciatic communities in the latest years because of its high prevalence allied with the difficult treatment. Statistics indicate that liver cancer, throughout world, is the one that attacks the greatest number of people. Over the time, study of MR images related to cancer detection in the liver or abdominal area has been difficult. Early detection of liver cancer is very important for successful treatment. There are few methods available to detect cancerous cells. In this paper, an automatic approach that integrates the intensity-based segmentation and k-means clustering approach for detection of cancer region in MRI scan images of liver.

  • In this paper, we compare and analyze smart technologies and present six obstacle detection features to help visually impaired people walk. Traditionally, visually impaired people walk with the white cane or a guide dog. With the development of IoT technology, various smart walking aids systems have been developed. Those intelligent walking aids systems have obstacle-detecting systems and route-guidance systems. Many researchers are developing the walking aids system, which detects an obstacle and provides the obstacle information by haptic feedback. Also, they are designing the database server system to share the obstacle information. Particularly the composed system can quickly give an obstacle-avoidance route using shared obstacle information. Smart walking aids systems for visually impaired people will advance more rapidly by applying machine learning and intelligent systems.
