Effects of Conditioners (Standard, Long-Term and Expander) on Pellet Quality and Growth Performance in Nursery and Finishing Pigs

  • A series of experiments were conducted to determine the effects of standard (ST), long-term (LT), and expander (EX) conditioners on nutritional value of phase-three nursery and finishing swine diets. In Exp. 1, 180 pigs (average initial BW of 11.7 kg) were fed com-soybean meal based diets (1.3% lysine) during a 28 d growth assay. Gain/feed was improved (p<0.004) with pelleting and pellet durability index (PDI) increased with degree of conditioning (LT>ST). However, there was no advantage for LT vs ST conditioning in rate or efficiency of gain (p>0.5). In Exp. 2, 180 pigs (average initial BW of 10.4 kg) were fed con-soybean meal based diets (0.9% lysine) during a 28 d growth assay, Pelleted diets tended to support greater ADG (p<0.08) and gain/feed (p<0.002) with no marked advantage from EX vs ST conditioning. In Exp 3, a total of 70 barrows (average initial BW of 54 kg) was used in a growth assay to determine the effects of feeding a com-soybean meal based diet processed with a standard (ST) steam conditioner, a long-term (LT) steam conditioner, and an expander (EX) conditioner. The conditioned diets were fed as mash (M) or pellets (P) to give a $2{\times}3$ factorial plus a meal control. PDI increased with degree of conditioning (EX>LT>ST). There was a trend (p<0.07) for greater ADG in pigs fed diets that had been thermally conditioned. Also, there was a general advantage in gain/feed with pelleting (p<0.04), but this advantage was pronounced only with standard conditioning. Indeed, the greatest gain/feed was observed for pigs fed the expander treatments (p<0.03) and the expander mash was used as efficiently as the expander pellets. There was no difference in backfat thickness among pigs fed the treatments (p>0.3). but the more extreme the processing technique. the greater the incidence and severity of stomach lesions (p<0.04). These results suggest maximum rate and efficiency of growth with pelleting after standard steam conditioning or simply feeding an expanded mash.

단백질 및 지질함량이 다른 배합사료와 생사료로 사육한 넙치의 육질평가 (Evaluation of Muscle Quality of Olive Flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) Fed Extruded Pellets Containing Different Protein and Lipid Levels, and Raw Fish-based Moist Pellet)

  • 본 연구에서는 단백질(51~5%) 및 지질(9~15%) 함량이 다른 배합사료(EP)와 생사료(MP)를 공급하면서 사육한 양식넙치의 육질을 비교해 보고자 하였다. 사육실험은평균체 중 106g의 넙치를 원형수조에 40마리씩 실험구별로 2반복으로 수용하면서, 단백질 및 지질 함량이 서로 다른 실험 배합사료(EP1, EP2, EP3)와 수입산 상품 배합사료(EP4) 및 MP를 16주간 공급하면서 사육하였다. 수분함량은 생사료(MP)를 공급한 넙치의 등근육에서 배합사료(EP)를 공급한 넙치의 등근육보다 유의적으로 높은 값을 나타내었다. 16:1n-7, 20:4n-6 및 20:5n-3의 함량은, 수입산 배합사료 EP4 및 MP를 공급한 넙치의 등근육에서 실험배합사료 EP1, EP2, EP3을 공급한 넙치 등근육보다 높게 나타났으나, 18:2n-6의 함량은 EP4 및 MP 공급구가 낮게 나타났다. 22:6n-3의 함량은 모든 실험구에서 높게 나타났으나 유의적인 차이를 보이지는 않았다. Taurine 함량은 MP를 공급한 넙치의 등근육에서 EP를 공합한 모든 넙치의 등근육보다 유의적으로 가장 높은 값을 나타내었다. Asparagine의 함량은 실험배합사료 EP1을 공급한 넙치의 등근육에서 EP2, E3, EP4 및 MP를 공급한 넙치 등근육보다 유의적으로 높은 값을 나타내었다. 각 사료를 공급한 넙치 등근육의 유리아미노산 중 lysine 및 serine의 함량도 유의적인 차이를 보였다. 핵산관련물질 중 넙치 등근육의 IMP 함량은 공급한 각 사료의 영향을 받아 유의적인 차이를 보였다. 물성측정 결과는 공급한 사료에 따라 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다.

시판 넙치용 배합사료의 품질평가 (Quality Evaluation of Commercial Extruded Pellet Diet for Olive Flounder, Paralichtys olivaceus)

  • This study evaluated the quality of commercial extruded pellet (EP) diet of five companies (A, B, C, D and E) for olive flounder Paralichtys olivaceus by biochemical analyses, physical properties and growth performance. The proximate analyses of five EP diets showed $3.2-10.0\%$ of moisture, $49.3-55.5\%$ of crude protein, $4.6-14.7\%$ of crude lipid, $7.0-13.8\%$ of crude ash, $0.7-10.5\%$ of crude fiber, $10.0-27.3\%$ of itrogen free extract (NFE), 304.3-395.4kcal/100g of digestible energy (DE) and 6.1-7.1 of calorie/protein ratio (C/P). Peroxide value (POV) was highest in diet D (47.4 meq/kg) as compared to other diets which in the range of 4.0-11.7 meq/kg. Total amino acid contents were ranged from 46.54 to $55.46\%$ with the highest content in diet B and the lowest content in diet C. Essential amino acid of diet C was lowest $(7.43\%)$ as compared to other diets which in the range of $19.43-20.30\%$. Saturated fatty acid was higher in diet A $(37.65\%)$ followed by diet B $(36.32\%)$, diet E$(34.39\%)$, diet C$(30.95\%)$ and diet D$(30.10\%)$. EPA+DHA were highest in diet E$(30.78\%)$ and lowest in diet C$(15.48\%)$. The floating rate after 6 hours on the sea water was highest in diet C$(100\%)$ followed by diet B$(40\%)$ and A$(10\%)$. However, diets D and E were completely settled down after 1 and 2 hours, respectively. The range of relative expansion rate was $27.2-49.3\%$ for all diets and all reached the peak at 2-3 hours. The water absorption rate of diets C and D was lowest, and diet E was highest at 1 hour after deposition of sea water. Growth rate was higher in diet B$(22.3\%)$ and E$(21.3\%)$. Feed efficiency was higher in diet A$(109.7\%)$ and E$(105.3\%)$ and was significantly lowest in diet D$(80.7\%)$. The protein efficiency ratio was highest in diet E (2.72) and lowest in diet D (1.76). These results suggest that there is a necessity for improvement of nutrients balance and feed physical properties to fulfill the nutrient requirements and digestive characteristics of fishes in commercial EP diets.

목타르와 톱밥을 혼합하여 제조한 펠릿의 특성 (Characteristics of Pellet Prepared from Sawdust and Wood-tar)

  • 본 연구에서는 소나무재와 굴참나무재의 톱밥을 이용하여 제조한 목재펠릿과 두 수종의 톱밥에 목타르를 혼합하여 제조한 펠릿의 특성에 대해서 조사하였다. 펠릿은 상온에서 만능강도측정기를 이용하여 2000 kgf/$cm^2$의 압력을 가하여 제작하였다. 목재펠릿의 밀도는 굴참나무 톱밥으로 제조한 것이 소나무 톱밥으로 제조한 것보다 다소 높았고, 미세분 발생량은 굴참나무 톱밥으로 제조한 펠릿이 소나무 톱밥으로 제조한 펠릿보다 낮았다. 발열량은 소나무 톱밥으로 제조한 펠릿이 굴참나무 톱밥으로 제조한 펠릿보다 다소 높았다. 톱밥과 목타르를 혼합하여 제조한 펠릿은 목타르 함량이 증가함에 따라 함수율, 밀도 및 발열량이 높게 나타났고, 미세분 발생량은 적었다. 이상의 결과로부터 목타르는 고품질 펠릿제조를 위한 원료로서의 이용이 기대된다.

시멘틱 공유를 위한 MDA기반 지하공간정보 온톨로지 모델 개발 (Development of MDA-based Subsurface Spatial Ontology Model for Semantic Sharing)

  • 최근 이질적인 정보의 폭발적인 증가와 다양한 관리주체별로 생산, 축적되는 공간정보의 특성으로 인하여 공간정보의 재사용과 공유가 어려운 실정이다. 국가공간정보체계의 하나인 지하공간정보도 공간분석을 위해서는 지형도, 지질도, 지하시설물도 등 여타 공간정보와 공유가 필수적이다. 그러나, 기존 표준 혹은 데이터웨어하우스에 의한 공유방법은 시멘틱 이질성을 고려할 수 없다. 본 연구는 지하공간정보의 시멘틱 공유를 위해 일반개념, 측정스케일, 공간모델을 포함한 온톨로지 레이어 모델을 개발하였다. 또한, 기존의 수작업에 의존하는 온톨로지 개발방법론이 아닌 MDA기반 방법론을 적용하여 직관적이며 환경변화에 쉽게 대응할 수 있는 메타모델(UML Profile)을 개발하였다. 개발된 온톨로지 모델의 시멘틱 품질은 Pellet 추론엔진을 통해 검증하였다. 본 연구를 통해 시멘틱 공유를 증진시키고, 온톨로지의 지식표현 능력을 이용하여 GIS 전문가시스템 개발이 가능할 것으로 기대된다.

건조 배합사료로 사육한 양식산 넙치의 어체 품질평가; I. 지방산 및 구성아미노산 조성 비교 (Quality Characteristics of Cultured Olive Flounder Paralichthys olivaceus Fed with Extruded Pellets; I. Comparison of Fatty Acid and Amino Acid Contents)

  • 본 연구는 건조 배합사료를 공급한 양식 넙치와 생사료를 공급한 양식넙치의 품질특성을 비교해 보고자 하였다. 즉, 건조 배합사료로서는 시중에 판매되고 있는 상품사료(CEP)와 직접 설계 제조한 실험사료(FEP) 2종을 사용하였고 생사료(MP)를 대조구로하여, 약 10달간 각각의 사료를 공급한 넙치(1.15 kg)의 등근육 및 지느러미 살을 대상으로 하여 각 사료 공급에 의한 일반성분, 지방산, 아미노산, 관능평가 및 물성측정을 통한 어육의 품질차이를 비교하였다. 넙치 등근육의 일반성분의 각 함량은 차이가 없었으나, 지느러미 살의 경우는 MP 공급구가 수분함량이 높고 조지방 함량은 낮았다. 넙치 어육의 지방산 조성은, 넙치를 사육하는 동안 공급하는 사료의 종류에 따라 등근육 및 지느러미살의 지방산 조성은 차이가 있음을 알 수 있었고, 주로 축산육의 품질 측정시 지표로 사용되던 18 : 0/18 : 2, 18 : 2/18 : 3 및 n-6/n-3과 같은 지방산의 비율을 활용해서 어류의 풍미와 정미성을 비롯해 어육의 질감 차이까지도 예측할 수 있을 것으로 사료되었다. 또한, MP, CEP 및 FEP를 공급한 넙치 등근육의 구성아미노산 조성 중 EAA, FAA, SAAA, SAA 및 FRAA의 함량에는 차이가 없었으나, 지느러미살의 경우는 맛 관련 성분인 glutamic acid와 감미성분인 glycine 및 alanine이 각 사료구별로 유의적인 차이를 나타내었다. 냄새, 외관, 맛, 질감 및 종합적인 기호도면에 대해 관능검사를 실시한 결과 모든 사료구에서 유의적인 차이는 없었고, 경도(hardness)는 MP 공급구가 CEP 및 FEP 공급구보다 높았다. 물성측정 결과도 역시 모든 사료구에서 유의적인 차이는 없었다. 본 실험 결과로부터 건조 배합사료를 공급한 넙치의 등근육 및 지느러미 살의 품질 특성은 생사료를 공급한 넙치와 큰 차이는 없음을 알 수 있었다.

근관치료시 사용되는 수종 임시충전재의 변연 폐쇄효과에 관한 연구 (A STUDY ON THE SEALING PROPERTIES OF TEMPORARY FILLING MATERIALS USED IN ENDODONTICS)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the sealing properties of the temporary filling materials used in endodontic treatment Access cavities were prepared in 135 extracted human molar teeth. Then, cotton pellets were placed in the pulp chamber until the depth of 5 mm for the temporary filling materials; Caviton, zine oxide-eugenol, double sealing (A) (stopping 15 mm + zinc oxide - eugenol, 3.5mm ) double sealing (B) (stopping 3.0 mm + zinc oxide - eugenol 2.0 mm) and gutta percha stopping. After filling the materials, the teeth were immersed in 1 % methylene blue solutions for 3 days, 1 week and 2 weeks. Then thermal cycling was performed at the temperature of $60^{\circ}C$ and $4^{\circ}C$, followed by longitudinal sections on the center of tooth. Finally, staining on the cotton pellet was evaluated. The following results were obtained. 1. Stopping showed lower marginal sealing quality than Caviton, zinc oxide - eugenol and double sealing. 2. In 1 week group, Caviton showed higher marginal sealing quality than zinc oxide-eugenol, double sealing and stopping. 3. Caviton and double sealing (B) showed a great decrease in marginal sealing quality with the increse of time. 4. Caviton had high marginal sealing quality in 3 day group and 1 week group, but in 2 week group, Caviton showed a great decrease. 5. Double sealing (B) showed fairly high marginal sealing quality in 3 day group, but decreased greatly after 1 week on.

Recent Advances in Artificial Insemination (AI) in Horses: Stallion Management, Processing and Preservation of Semen and Insemination Techniques

  • The efficiency of artificial insemination (AI) for horses remains unsatisfactory. It is mainly because each process of AI causes a detrimental effect on semen quality. To sustain quality of semen properly, several factors including libido of stallions and sperm damage during sperm processing and preservation should be considered. Stallions with decent libido produce a high ratio of sperm to seminal plasma in their ejaculates, which is the ideal semen composition for maintaining sperm quality. Thus, to maximize the fertility rate upon AI, stallions should be appropriately managed to enhance their libido. Seminal plasma should have a positive effect on horse fertility in the case of natural breeding, whereas the effects of seminal plasma on both sperm viability and quality in the context of AI remain controversial. Centrifugation of semen is performed during semen processing to remove seminal plasma and to isolate fine quality sperm from semen. However, the centrifugation process can also result in sperm loss and damage. To solve this problem, several different centrifugation techniques such as Cushion Fluid along with dual and single Androcoll-E$^{TM}$ were developed to minimize loss of sperm and to damage at the bottom of the pellet. Most recently, a new technique without centrifugation was developed with the purpose of separating sperm from semen. AI techniques have been advanced to deliver sperm to optimal region of female reproductive tract at perfect timing. Recombinant equine luteinizing hormone (reLH) and low dose insemination techniques have been developed to maximize both fertility rate and the efficiency of AI. Horse breeders should consider that the entire AI procedure should be optimized for each stallion due to variation in individual horses for a uniformed AI protocol.

목재펠릿과 석탄의 단위 발열량에 따른 사회적 비용 비교 분석 (Comparison on Social Cost by Unit Calorific Value between Wood Pellets and Coals)

  • With the growing importance of GHG reduction, wood pellets are considered as a cheaper renewable energy and carbon neutral. On the other hand, there is a concern that the burning wood pellets may release even more air pollutants such as CO and VOCs. In this study, we analyzed the social costs of burning fuels including wood pellets and coals based on the unit calorific value. The social costs were calculated by sum of the import costs of the fuels and the emission costs of the air pollutants. The results showed that wood pellets are inferior to coals in the aspect of the social costs. It is necessary to improve the quality of the wood pellets and pellet boiler facilities for being used eco-friendly energy sources in the future. We suggest that the control facilities of CO and VOCs should be installed, if the control costs are lower than the pollution costs.

다구찌 방법을 이용한 신발 아웃솔 펠레타이징 기계 절단부의 강건설계 (Taguchi-based robust design for the footwear outsole pelletizing machine cutter)

  • Purpose: This study attempts to find out the optimum condition of the rotary cutter making pellet in the footwear outsole process. The pellets are used in the process of outsole rubber fabrication to reduce cycle time and save raw material. Methods: Computer simulations are used to analyze the maximum stress in the rotary cutter after designing a variety of cutter shapes. Taguchi method is used to identify the robust condition of the cutter. In $L_{18}$ orthogonal array, the control factors such as knife width, twisted angle, number of knives, diameter, knife depth and supported angle are considered and noise factors like assembly tolerance and amount of antifriction are allocated. Results: It is found that the most important factors to reduce maximum stress in the cutter are supported angle and diameter. Using Tacuchi's results, we can reduce 70% cycle time and 9% raw material compared to the traditional method using cutting die. Conclusion: When designing the rotary cutter, the best conditions are the diameter at its maximum allowable value and supported angle in the boundary of machine inner space.
