Objective : The aim of this study was to verify validity of the Activity Participation Assessment for school-age children. Methods : A questionnaire consisting of 30 items from the APA, 75 items from the PACS, and 55 items from the CAPE was administered to elementary school students. A total of 207 questionnaires were analyzed. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed to confirm the construct validity of the APA. Convergence validity and discriminant validity were verified with the average variance extracted (AVE) and the square of the correlation coefficient. The discriminant validity was the Pearson correlation coefficient of the APA, PACS, and CAPE. Results : The results of the analysis were as follows: 1) For construct validity, the goodness of fit of the modified hierarchical second-order factor model was found to be appropriate (p < .001), 2) For convergent validity, the AVE was higher than .50 for all latent variables, 3) For discriminant validity, the AVE of the latent variable was greater than the square of the correlation coefficient (0.239), 4) For concurrent validity, the correlation between the total sum of the APA and PACS scores showed a positive correlation in all domains, and the correlation coefficient ranged from .303 to .647 at a statistically significant level (p < .01), 5) The correlation coefficient between the total sum of the APA and CAPE scores was .490 for recreational activities, .329 for physical activities, .571 for social activities, .401 for skill-based activities, and .390 for self-improvement activities. All domains showed a positive correlation, and were statistically significant (p < .01). Conclusion : APA can be used as a valid assessment tool to measure the participation of school aged children.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical availability of the pendulum test (through reliability and validity) using a NK table attached electrogoniometer for spasticity measurement in patients with brain lesions. METHODS: Thirty-one stroke and traumatic brain injury subjects participated in the study. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to verify the test-retest reliability of spasticity measures of the pendulum test. Pearson's product correlation coefficient was used to examine the validity of the pendulum test through the amplitude of the deep tendon reflex (DTR) test known for objective and quantitative measure of spasticity. RESULTS: In these results, the test-retest reliability was showed significantly high correlation between pendulum tests (ICCs=.95~.97, p<.01). There were significant negative correlations between the amplitude of the DTR test and all measures of spasticity of the pendulum test(r=-.77~-.85, p<.01). CONCLUSION: Thus, it is possible to use the pendulum test using a NK table as an objective measure of spasticity, rather than other expensive equipment, which is more complicated to use. Further studies are needed to explore the therapeutic effects of spasticity using a newly designed pendulum test equipment in this study.

Objectives The purpose of this study was to examine the quality of life of overweight & obese women using SF-36 Methods We studied 244 patients visiting Gangdong Kyung Hee University Hospital from 1st April 2011 to 30th November 2011. The subjects were categorized in two groups, normal group(n=158) and overweight & obesity group(n=86). We studied the difference of SF-36 scores between two groups by independent samples t-test and correlation between anthropometry and SF-36 scores by Pearson's correlation coefficient test using SPSS for windows(version 13.0). Results Overweight & obesity group significantly showed lower quality of life in the domains of physical functioning, bodily pain, and social functioning than normal group. Some of body weight, fat mass, body mass index, percent body fat, fat distribution and quality of life in the domains of physical functioning, role-physical, bodily pain, general health, social functioning, role-emotional significantly showed negative correlation coefficient. Conclusions The results suggest that overweight and obese women tend to show lower quality of life.
The relations between words intelligibility and sentences intelligibility were tested on adults with cerebral palsy(athetoid type). Intelligibility is used as an important evaluation value in the field of diagnosis and therapy of dysarthric patients. In order to develop one syllable phonetic contrast intelligibility test using specific phonetic contrasts, the correlation with sentences intelligibility was tested to find out the validity. Pearson's simple correlation coefficient was .83 that shows a high correlation. Also, comparing the range and standard deviation given by seven evaluators on each subject, it was shown that when evaluating patients of moderate intelligibility, words intelligibility was more reliable than sentences intelligibility.

In this study, we developed textile proximity sensor using conductive textile to develop a Medication adherence management system. The textile proximity sensor utilizes the principle of the capacitor, and the ring type sensor used to reduce the fringe-effect. When take medicines, we made a custom PCB that converts the change of the data measured by the sensor into a digital value so that transmitted the PC. In order to compare the performance of the system, we evaluated the correlation between the data variation according to the quantity of pills in the electronic compact scale and the data in this system. As a result, Pearson's correlation coefficient was 0.956(p<0.01), confirmed a good correlation between the scale and our system. Therefore, we concluded that our system evaluated able to whether or not to take medication.
The purpose of this study was to investigate correlations among objective measurements of spasticity in patients with brain lesions. Thirty-two stroke and traumatic brain injury subjects participated in the study. Spasticity was quantified using the knee first flexion angle, relaxation index obtained from a pendulum drop test, and the amplitude of a knee tendon reflex test. Pearson's product correlation coefficient was used to examine relationships among these measurements of spasticity. There was a significant positive correlation between the relaxation index and knee first flexion angle in patients with brain lesions (r=.895, p<.01). There was also significant negative correlation between the amplitude of knee tendon reflex and relaxation index (r=-.612, p<.01), and between amplitude and knee first flexion angle (r=-.537, p<.01). Thus, it is possible to use the knee first flexion angle as an objective measure of spasticity, rather than relaxation index, which is more complicated to obtain. Further studies are needed to explore the effects of functional improvement and long-lasting carryover effects of spasticity using a simple objective measure such as the knee first flexion angle from a pendulum test.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship of pain, fatigue, and illness duration in elderly women with osteoarthritis. Methods: The subjects of the study were one hundred and thirty five elderly women (age over 65years) who have an osteoarthritis. Data were gathered from September 2002 to June 2005 using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed with the SPSS Win 11.0 using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: Pain in the elderly women with osteoarthritis correlated with fatigue (r= .447, p= .00). Pain showed a significantly positive correlation to illness duration (r= .197, p= .02). Fatigue showed a significantly positive correlation to illness duration (r= .213, p= .01). Conclusion: It is suggested that we need to develop the pain and fatigue control program considering illness duration should be provided for elderly women with osteoarthritis.
