  • Single-Carrier Frequency division multiplexing (SC-FDM) has been selected for the uplink transmission technique in 3GPP-LTE since it has an advantage of low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) in user's perspective. The receiver typically uses a frequency domain equalizer, which, however, suffers from noise boost and/or residual ISI especially when the channel has deep nulls. In this paper, we propose using turbo equalizer to mitigate such a problem. We provide link level performance comparison and an insight into how many iteration is needed for reasonable performance and complexity.

  • This paper presents an efficiency enhancement for the high power amplifier using DDBS(Digitally-controlled Dynamic Bias Switching) method which dynamically provides the power amplifier with two bias voltage levels according to the input envelope signal. It is quite easy to adjust the control signal by using a digital processing. The fabricated DDBS PA was evaluated using an 64 QAM FDD LTE signal, which has a center frequency of 2.6 GHz, a bandwidth of 10 MHz and a PAPR of 9.5 dB. The DDBS increases the power amplifier's PAE(Power-Added Efficiency) from 40.9 % to 48 %, at an average output power level of 43 dBm.

  • In this paper, we propose a new motion estimation algorithm for frame rate up-conversion. The proposed algorithm uses the variance of errors in addition to SAD in motion estimation to find more accurate motion vectors. Then, it decides which motion vectors are wrong using the variance of neighbor motion vectors and the variance between current motion vector and neighbor's average motion vector. Next, incorrect motion vectors are corrected by weighted sum of eight neighbor motion vectors. Additionally, we propose adaptive search range algorithm, so we can find more accurate motion vectors and reduce computational complexity at the same time. As a result, proposed algorithm improves the average peak signal-to-noise ratio and structural similarity up to 1.44 dB and 0.129, respectively, compared with previous algorithms.

  • The optical properties of InAs quantum dots (QDs) grown on GaAs substrates grown by molecular beam epitaxy have been studied using photoluminescence (PL) and time-resolved PL measurements. InAs QDs were grown using an arsenic interruption growth (AIG) technique, in which the As flux was periodically interrupted by a closed As shutter during InAs QDs growth. In this study, the shutter of As source was periodically opened and closed for 1 (S1), 2 (S2), or 3 s (S3). For comparison, an InAs QD sample (S0) without As interruption was grown in a pure GaAs matrix for 20 s. The PL intensity of InAs QD samples grown by AIG technique is stronger than that of the reference sample (S0). While the PL peaks of S1 and S2 are redshifted compared to that of S0, the PL peak of S3 is blueshifted from that of S0. The increase of the PL intensity for the InAs QDs grown by AIG technique can be explained by the reduced InAs clusters, the increased QD density, the improved QD uniformity, and the improved aspect ratio (height/length). The redshift (blueshift) of the PL peak for S1 (S3) compared with that for S0 is attributed to the increase (decrease) in the QD average length compared to the average length of S0. The PL intensity, PL peak position, and PL decay time have been investigated as functions of temperature and emission wavelength. S2 shows no InAs clusters, the increased InAs QD density, the improved QD uniformity, and the improved QD aspect ratio. S2 also shows the strongest PL intensity and the longest PL decay time. These results indicate that the size (shape), density, and uniformity of InAs QDs can be controlled by using AIG technique. Therefore the emission wavelength and luminescence properties of InAs/GaAs QDs can also be controlled.

  • To characterize organic and elemental carbon (OC and EC), and water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC) contents, daily $PM_{2.5}$ measurements were performed in August 2006 (summer) and Jan $11{\sim}Feb$ 12 2007 (winter) at an urban site of Gwangju. Daily size-segregated aerosol samples were also collected for WSOC analysis. No clear seasonal variations in EC and WSOC concentrations were observed, while seasonal differences in OC concentration, and OC/EC and WSOC/EC ratios were shown. The WSOC/OC ratio showed higher value in summer (0.56) than in winter (0.40), reflecting the greater enhancement of secondary WSOC formation at the site in summer. Secondary WSOC concentrations estimated using EC tracer method were in the range $0.0{\sim}2.1\;{\mu}g/m^3$ (average $0.42\;{\mu}g/m^3$) and $0.0{\sim}1.1\;{\mu}g/m^3\;(0.24\;{\mu}g/m^3)$, respectively, accounting for $0{\sim}51.6%$ (average 16.8%) and $0{\sim}52.5%$ (average 13.1 %) of the measured WSOC concentrations in summer and winter. Sometimes higher WSOC/OC ratio in winter than that in summer could be attributed to two reasons. One is that the stable atmospheric condition often appears in winter, and the prolonged residence time would strengthen atmospheric oxidation of volatile organic compounds. The other is that decrease of ambient temperature in winter would enhance the condensation of volatile secondary WSOC on pre-existing aerosols. In summertime, atmospheric aerosols and WSOC concentrations showed bimodal size distributions, peaking at the size ranges $0.32{\sim}0.56\;{\mu}m$ (condensation mode) and $3.2{\sim}5.6\;{\mu}m$ (coarse mode), respectively. During the wintertime, atmospheric aerosols showed a bimodal character, while WSOC concentrations showed a unimodal pattern. Size distributions of atmospheric aerosols and WSOC with a peak in the size range $0.32{\sim}0.56\;{\mu}m$ were observed for most of the measurement periods. On January 17, however, atmospheric aerosols and WOSC exhibited size distributions with modal peaks in the size range $1.0{\sim}1.8\;{\mu}m$, suggesting that the aerosol particles collected on that day could be expected to be more aged, i.e, longer residence time, than the aerosols at other sampling periods.

  • Osteosarcoma is a common primary malignant bone tumor in children and adolescents. Recent worldwide average incidences of osteosarcoma in people aged 0 to 24 years were 4.3 and 3.4 per million, respectively, with a ratio of 1.4:1. However, data on the incidence of osteosarcoma in Thailand are limited. This study analyzed the incidence of osteosarcoma in the upper northern region of Thailand, with a population of 5.85 million people (8.9% of the total Thai population), using data for the years 1998 to 2012, obtained from the Chiang Mai Cancer Registry (CMCR) at Chiang Mai University Hospital and the Lampang Cancer Registry (LCR) at the Lampang Cancer Hospital, a total of 144 cases. The overall annual incidence of osteosarcoma was 1.67 per million with a male:female ratio of 1.36:1. Incidences by age group (male and female) at 0 to 24, 25 to 59 and over 60 years were 3.5 (3.9 and 3.0), 0.8 (0.9 and 0.6), and 0.7 (0.8 and 0.5), respectively. The peak incidence occurred at 15 to 19 years for males and at 10 to 14 years for females. The median survival time was 18 months with a 5-year survival rate of 43%. Neither the age group nor the 5-year interval period of treatment was significantly correlated with survival during the 15-year period studied.

  • The long-term trends of global solar irradiance, air temperature, specific humidity and cloudiness measured at King Sejong station, Antarctica, during the period of 1988-2004, have been investigated. A statistically insignificant decrease, -0.21 $Wm^{-2}yr^{-1}$ (-0.26 %$yr^{-1}$, P<0.5) in global solar irradiance was found in an analysis from the time series of the monthly mean values, except for the increasing trends only in two months of January and June. The trends in irradiance are directly and inversely associated with the cloudiness trends in annual and monthly means. The trends in surface air temperature show a slight warming, $0.03^{\circ}Cyr^{-1}$ (1.88 %$yr^{-1}$, P<0.5) on the annual average, with cooling trend in the summer months and the warming in the winter. The exact relationship, if any, between the irradiance and temperature trends is not known. No significant tendency was found in specific humidity for the same periods. Recent (1996-2004) erythermal ultraviolet irradiance shows decreasing trend in annual mean, -0.15 $mWm^{-2}yr^{-1}$ (-1.18 %$yr^{-1}$, P<0.1) which is about five times the trends of global solar irradiance. The ratio of erythermal ultraviolet to global solar irradiance shows remarkable seasonal variations with annual mean value of 0.01 % and a peak in October and November, showing the increase of ultraviolet irradiance resulting from the Antarctic ozone hole. The sensitivity of global solar irradiance to the change in cloudiness is roughly $13%oktas^{-1}$ which is about twice of the value at the South Pole due to the difference in the average surface reflectance between the two stations. Much more sensitive values of $59%oktas^{-1}$ was found for erythermal UV irradiance than for the global solar irradiance.

  • To investigated the effect of liquid culture conditions and nutrient sources on the formation with bioactive substance of Paeilomyces japonica and Cordyceps militaris cultivated in the country, the result are as follow; The growth temperature of two mycelia is 25$^{\circ}C$ and the proper temperature for cordycepin growth is around 20$^{\circ}C$. The formation amount of bioactive substance by nutrient sources reached its peak with using 2% glucose and 1% galactose in case of carbon sources and 0.4% inorganic compound in case of nitrogen sources. Also, the ratio of C/N was optimal with 3% glucose 1% peptone. For a natural medium, most grains were sufficient but the soybean oil was superb. The formation amount of protein-binding polysaccharide that are used for anticancer substance was in proportion to the growth rate of mycelium, had lots of aeration and showed a trend of increasing when the acidity lower. and the content of structural protein showed a trend of increasing when the acidity lower. However, the content of the structural hexosamin did not get a great the effect of culture conditions and nutrient sources. The constitution of monosaccharide that organizes a protein-binding polysaccharide greatly changed in proportion to carbon sources. When Paecilomyces japonica cultured in a silkworm larvae for 30 days, the content of cordycepin was 204.5 mg/100mL as a dry weight in the fruiting body, 41.8 mg/100mL in mycelium and larva, and the content for each bottle was average 29.5 mg/100mL. In case of Cordyceps militaris for 45days, the fruiting body was 563.5 mg/100mL, the larva and the mycelium was 86.1 mg/100mL, and the content for each bottle was average 65.0 mg/100mL.

  • This study is aimed to analyze the reduction performance of building energy consumption according to planting base types of panel-type green walls which can be applied to existing buildings. The performance was compared to the general performance of green walls that have demonstrated effects of improving the thermal environment and reducing building energy consumption in urban areas. The number of planting base types was 4 in total, and simulations were conducted to analyze the thermal conductivity, thermal transmittance, and overall building energy consumption rate of each planting base type. The highest thermal conductivity by the planting base type was Case C (0.053W/mK), followed by Case B (0.1W/mK) and Case D (0.17W/mK). According to the results of energy simulation, the most significant reduction of cooling peak load per unit area was Case C (1.19%), followed by Case B (1.14%) and Case D (1.01%) when compared to Case A to which green wall was not applied; and the most significant reduction of heating peak load per unit area was estimated to be Case C (2.38%), followed by Case B (1.82%) and case D (1.50%) when compared to Case A. The amount of yearly cooling and heating energy use per unit area showed 3.04~3.22% of reduction rate. The amount of the 1st energy use showed 5,844 kWh/yr of decrease on average for other types when compared to Case A. The amount of yearly $CO_2$ emission showed 996kg of decrease on average when compared to Case A to which the green wall was not applied. According to the results of energy performance evaluation by planting location, the most efficient energy performance was eastward followed by westward, southward and northward. According to the results of energy performance evaluation by planting location by green wall ratio, it was found that as the ratio of green wall increased, the energy performance displayed better results, showing approx. double reduction rate in energy consumption at 100% of green wall ratio than the reduction rate at 20% to 80% of green wall ratio.
