Evaluation of Capacity Spectrum Methods for Estimating the Peak Inelastic Responses (최대 비탄성 변위 응답 예측을 위한 기존 능력스펙트럼법들의 유효성 평가 및 비교)

  • In the capacity spectrum method(CSM) using a linear response spectrum, the peak response of an inelastic system under a given earthquake load is estimated transforming the system into the equivalent elastic one. The CSM for estimating the peak inelastic response is evaluated in this paper. The equivalent period and damping ratio are calculated using the ATC-40, G lkan, Kowalsky, and Iwan methods, and the performance points are obtained according to the procedure B of ATC-40. Analysis results indicate that the ATC-40 method generally underestimates the peak response resulting in the unsafe design, while the G lkan and Kowalsky methods overestimate the responses. The Iwan method produces the values between those by the ATC-40 method and the G lkan and Kowalsky methods, and estimates the responses relatively closer to the exact ones. Further, it is found that the Kowalsky method gives the negative equivalent damping ratios depending on the hardening ratios, and thereby can not be used to estimate the responses in some cases.

  • The recent summer power peak crisis has been caused by excessive use of cooling loads at daily peak time in summer. The yearly load shape of KEPCO has gradually became very steep valley. Under this situation, more efficient DSM(Demand Side Management) tools are fully required for summer peak clipping and shaving. In this paper, the KEPCO's Jeju-Do model project for DSM, especially for Demand Controller, is presented. Demand Controller was evaluated to have the very high economical efficiency against the investment in equipment, as compared with another DSM tools. There were some serious problem to apply Demand Controller to many customers in the aspect to synchronization with KEPCO's watthour meter. But these problems have solved by Keyin's new Demand Controller using vision algorithm.

  • By the speech production model, the first positive peak in a pitch interval of the voiced speech is mainly affected by the glottis and the first formant component, known as a typical energy source of the voiced speech. From these characteristics, the energy parameter can be replaced by the area of the area of the positve peak in a pitch interval, which parameter is generally used for classification of speech signals. In this method, the changed energy parameter is independent of window length applied for analysis, and the pitch can be extracted smultaneously. Furthermore, the energy can be extracted in the pitch period unit.

Biofunctionality of Peptides Purified from Naturally Fermented Anchovy Sauce (천연 숙성 멸치액젓 Peptide의 생리활성)

  • Bioactive properties of low molecular weight peptides purified from anchovy sauce fermented in underground at 15$\pm$3$^{\circ}C$ for 1, 3, and 5 years, respectively, were investigated. The fermented anchovy sauce for 1 year showed 3 peaks on gel permeation chromatography pattern, while 3 and 5 year fermented anchovy sauce showed 4 and 5 peaks, respectively. The longer fermentation period, the lower molecular weight of peptides on gel permeation chromatography pattern. Antioxidative, antitumor, and ACE inhibitory activities of low molecular weight peptides increased as fermentation period increased. Antioxidative and antitumor activities of peptide peak 3 purified from 3 year fermented anchovy sauce were the highest with 34 and 44 $\mu\textrm{g}$/mL of $IC_{50}$/ values, respectively, while ACE inhibitory activity ($IC_{50}$/, 32 $\mu\textrm{g}$/mL) of peak 3 purified from 1 year fermented was the highest.

Quality Properties of Cooked Germinated-brown Rice (유통중인 발아현미밥의 품질특성)

  • This study was carried rut to investigate the quality properties of two cocked germinated-brown rices(A- and B-product). Color value of A- and B-product were L=68.46, a=0.92, b=9.49 and L=69.32, a=-1.10, b=9.77, respectively. Moisture content of those was $64.5\%$. The free sugar contents of A-product were $0.2\%$ glucose, $0.15\%$ sucrose, $0.18\%$ maltose, and those of B-product were $0.14\%$ glurose, $0.50\%$ sucrose, $0.17\%$ maltose, respectively. Vitamin E content in A-product was $30.7\;{\mu}g\;100\;g$ and $46.9\;{\mu}g\;100\;g$ in B-product. Total dietary fiber contents were $2.8\%$, and $2.2\%$, respectively. The DSC(differential scanning calorimetry) characteristics of two cooked germinated-brown rices showed similar pattern. Onset temperature and gelatinization enthalpy of peak 1 were $56.5^{\circ}C$, 5.46 J/g in A-product and $56.2^{\circ}C$, 5.56 J/g in B-product, respectively. Onset temperature and melting enthalpy of peak 2 were $109.5^{\circ}C$, 0.33 J/g in A-product and $108.9^{\circ}C$, 0.37 J/g in B-product, respective1y. Sensory properties of cocked germinated-brown rices were affected by appearance, taste and texture. Palatability score of B-product was higher than that of A-product.

Effect of Sucrose and Gluten on Glass Transition, Gelatinization, and Retrogradation of Wheat Starch (밀전분의 유리전이와 호화 및 노화에 대한 sucrose와 글루텐의 영향)

  • Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used to study effects of sucrose and gluten on wheat starch glass transition, gelatinization, and retrogradation. Glass transition temperature ($T_{g}$) of wheat starch decreased as the ratio of sucrose or gluten to starch increased. Both peak temperature ($T_{G}$) and enthalpy values of gelatinization endotherm increased or decreased with increasing ratio of sucrose or gluten, respectively. Wheat starch gel with no sucrose and gluten recrystallized up to 4 weeks of storage at $4^{\circ}C$, whereas those with sucrose and gluten completed recrystallization within 1 week. Both wheat starch gels with no sucrose and gluten, and those with sucrose and gluten at storage temperature of $32^{\circ}C$ recrystallized up to 4 weeks, with wheat starch-sucrose-gluten (1 : 0.5 : 0.12) system, which had highest ratios of gluten and sucrose to starch, showing lowest recrystallization. Nucleation and propagation rates of starch gel recrystallization based on polymer crystallization principles can be converted into peak width (${\delta}T$) and peak temperature ($T_{R}$) of retrogradative endotherm by DSC, because higher nucleation rate at storage temperature of $4^{\circ}C$ close to $T_{g}$ showed higher ${\delta}T$, whereas higher propagation rate at $32^{\circ}C$ (close to $T_{G}$) had higher $T_{R}$.

  • Radiation damage in a single crystal of ammonium sulfate caused by ${\gamma}$-irradiation at room temperature has given rise to several paramagnetic centers. Electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra of crystal are obtained with the X-band EPR spectrometer at room temperature. An intense and isotropic peak of Gaussian shape at g = 2.0036 is assigned to $SO_3^-$, which shows power saturation effects. Angular dependence of spectra is studied for the rotations about three mutually perpendicular axes a, b and c. The g-values are obtained from the relative distances between isotropic peak of $SO_3^-$ and anisotropic peak of the species. Principal $g^-$values and direction cosines were calculated by diagonalizing the 3${\times}$3 matrix whose elements are the $g^-$values for each species. From the analysis of characteristic principal $g^-$values and direction cosines for ammonium sulfate single crystal, anisotropic peaks corresponding to $SO_4^-,\;SO_2^-$ and defect structure corresponding to electron excess type are identified.

Design of the Broadband PIFA with Multi-Band for SAR Reduction (다중대역을 가지는 SAR 저감용 광대역 PIFA 설계)

  • This paper proposed a novel broadband PIFA(Planar Inverted-F Antenna) for IMT-2000/WLAN/DMB terminal. Two branch lines for meander line were utilized in order to improve the characteristics of PIFA which usually has a narrow band. The shorting strip between the ground plane and meander-type radiation elements were used in order to minimize the size of the antenna. The -10 dB return loss bandwidth of a realized antenna was $38.2{\%}$(1.84~2.71 GHz), which contains the broadband bandwidth with triple band. And the simulated and measured values of 1 g and 10 g averaged peak SAR on human head caused by the triple band PIFA mounted on folder-type handsets were analyzed and discussed. As a result, the measured 1 g and 10 g averaged peak SARs of PIFA were similar with the simulated values and were lower than the 1.6 W/kg and 2 W/kg of 1 g and 10 g averaged peak SAR limits.

Discrimination of Domestic Rice Cultivars by Capillary Electrophoresis (Capillary Electrophoresis를 이용한 국내산 쌀의 품종 판별)

  • Capillary electrophoresis (CE) with rice proteins was used to discriminate 10 domestic rice cultivars in less than 25 min. Most cultivars were differentiated quickly and easily using P-ACN buffer system. CE of rice prolamins allowed classifying ten varieties of Korean rice into three groups. Peak h was characteristic peak for Dongjinbyeo, Gaehwabyeo and Yongnambyeo which were classified into the group of Dongjinbyeo. Chuchungbyeo, Odaebyeo, Mangeumbyeo and Bonggwangbyeo easily differentiated from the group of Dongjinbyeo by the absence of peak h which were classified into the group of Chuchungbyeo. Peak g typical for Illpumbyeo, Hwaseungbyeo and Hwayoungbyeo accounted for 70% of total peak area. They belong to the group of Illpumbyeo. Some cultivars showed specific peak patterns among ten cultivars, Illpumbyeo was differentiated from others by several peaks between peak c and peak f, and the peak d was apparently detected in Odaebyeo not in others. Other minor differences were also found within each group. The result of the study showed that CE has potential for discrimination of rice cultivars. It also possesses the inherent advantages such as low mass requirements, fast seperations, and quantitative analysis through on-capillary UV detection.

A Study of Copper Electroless Deposition on Tungsten Substrate (텅스텐 기판 위에 구리 무전해 도금에 대한 연구)

  • Copper was plated on the tungsten substrate by use of a direct copper electroless plating. The optimum deposition conditions were found to be with a concentration of $CuSO_4$ 7.615 g/L, EDTA of 10.258 g/L, and glyoxylic acid of 7 g/L, respectively. The solution temperature was maintained at $60^{\circ}C$. The pH was varied from 11.0 to 12.8. After the deposition, the properties of the copper film were investigated with X-ray diffractometer (XRD), Field emission secondary electron microscope (FESEM), Atomic force microscope (AFM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscope (XPS), and Rutherford backscattering spectroscope (RBS). The best deposition condition was founded to be the solution pH of 11.8. In the case of 10 min deposition at the pH of 11.8, the grain shape was spherical, Cu phase was pure without impurity peak ($Cu_2O$ peak), and the surface root mean square roughness was about 11 nm. The thickness of the film turned out to be 140 nm after deposition for 12 min and the deposition rate was found to be about 12 nm/min. Increase in pH induced a formation of $Cu_2O$ phase with a long rectangular grain shape. The pH control seems to play an important role for the orientation of Cu in electroless deposition. The deposited copper concentration was 99 atomic percent according to RBS. The resulting Cu/W film yielded a good adhesive strength, because Cu/W alloy forms during electroless deposition.
