A Scalable ECC Processor for Elliptic Curve based Public-Key Cryptosystem (타원곡선 기반 공개키 암호 시스템 구현을 위한 Scalable ECC 프로세서)

  • A scalable ECC architecture with high scalability and flexibility between performance and hardware complexity is proposed. For architectural scalability, a modular arithmetic unit based on a one-dimensional array of processing element (PE) that performs finite field operations on 32-bit words in parallel was implemented, and the number of PEs used can be determined in the range of 1 to 8 for circuit synthesis. A scalable algorithms for word-based Montgomery multiplication and Montgomery inversion were adopted. As a result of implementing scalable ECC processor (sECCP) using 180-nm CMOS technology, it was implemented with 100 kGEs and 8.8 kbits of RAM when NPE=1, and with 203 kGEs and 12.8 kbits of RAM when NPE=8. The performance of sECCP with NPE=1 and NPE=8 was analyzed to be 110 PSMs/sec and 610 PSMs/sec, respectively, on P256R elliptic curve when operating at 100 MHz clock.

Liquefaction Characteristics of Polyethylene-Polypropylene Mixture by Pyrolysis at Low Temperature (Polyethylene-Polypropylene 혼합물의 저온 열분해에 의한 액화특성)

  • The low temperature pyrolysis of polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene-polypropylene (PE-PP) mixture in a batch reactor at the atmospheric pressure and $450^{\circ}C$ was carried out to investigate the synergy effect of PE-PP mixture. The pyrolysis time was from 20 to 80 mins. The products formed during pyrolysis were classified into gas, gasoline, kerosene, gas oil and heavy oil according to the petroleum product quality standard of Korea Institute of Petroleum Quality. The analysis of the product oils by GC/MS showed that no new component was detected and no synergy effect was made by mixing of PE and PP. Conversions and yields of PE-PP mixtures were linearly dependent on the mixing ratio of samples.

  • The high cost of ultra-high-performance engineered cementitious composite (UHP-ECC) is currently a crucial issue, especially in terms of the polyethylene (PE) fibers use. In this paper, cheap calcium carbonate whiskers (CW) were evaluated on the feasibility of hybrid with PE fibers. Diverse combinations of PE fibers and CW were employed to investigate the multi-scale enhancement on the UHP-ECC performance. A probabilistic-based UHP-ECC tensile strain reliability analysis approach was utilized, which was in general agreement with the experimental results. Furthermore, a multi-dimensional integrated representation was conducted for the comprehensive assessment of UHP-ECC. Results illustrated that CW improved the compressive strength and energy dissipation capacity of UHP-ECC owing to the microscopic strengthening mechanism. CW and PE fiber further promoted the saturated cracking of composite by multi-scale crack arresting effect. In particular, PE1.75-CW0.5 specimen possessed the best overall performance. The ultimate cracking width of PE1.75-CW0.5 group had 98 ㎛, which was 46.18% lower compared to PE2-CW0 group, the 28d compressive strength were slightly improved, the tensile strain capacity was comparable to that of PE2-CW0 group. The results above demonstrated that combinations of PE fiber and CW could significantly enhance the comprehensive performance of UHP-ECC, which was beneficial for large-scale engineering applications.

Full-scale TBM excavation tests for rock-like materials with different uniaxial compressive strength

  • Penetration rate (PR) and penetration depth (Pe) are crucial parameters for estimating the cost and time required in tunnel construction using tunnel boring machines (TBMs). This study focuses on investigating the impact of rock strength on PR and Pe through full-scale experiments. By conducting controlled tests on rock-like specimens, the study aims to understand the contributions of various ground parameters and machine-operating conditions to TBM excavation performance. An earth pressure balanced (EPB) TBM with a sectional diameter of 3.54 m was utilized in the experiments. The TBM excavated rocklike specimens with varying uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), while the thrust and cutterhead rotational speed were controlled. The results highlight the significance of the interplay between thrust, cutterhead speed, and rock strength (UCS) in determining Pe. In high UCS conditions exceeding 70 MPa, thrust plays a vital role in enhancing Pe as hard rock requires a greater thrust force for excavation. Conversely, in medium-to-low UCS conditions less than 50 MPa, thrust has a weak relationship with Pe, and Pe becomes directly proportional to the cutterhead rotational speed. Furthermore, a strong correlation was observed between Pe and cutterhead torque with a determination coefficient of 0.84. Based on these findings, a predictive model for Pe is proposed, incorporating thrust, TBM diameter, number of disc cutters, and UCS. This model offers a practical tool for estimating Pe in different excavation scenarios. The study presents unprecedented full-scale TBM excavation results, with well-controlled experiments, shedding light on the interplay between rock strength, TBM operational variables, and excavation performance. These insights are valuable for optimizing TBM excavation in grounds with varying strengths and operational conditions.

  • Acute pulmonary embolism (PE) ranges from asymptomatic to often fatal, incidentally discovered emboli to massive embolism causing immediate death. Acute PE may occur rapidly and unpredictably and may be difficult to diagnose. Mortality and complications can be reduced by prompt diagnosis and therapy. Untreated PE is associated with a mortality rate of approximately 30 percents. Most patients with PE have endogenous fibrinolysis, although it is not effective enough to prevent PE. A case of spontaneous remission of untreated acute PE has not previously been reported. Here we present a case of spontaneously resolved acute PE without any treatment.

Photo-degradation of Phenol and Toluene by Using the TiO2-coated Polyethylene Particles (TiO2가 코팅된 Polyethylene 입자를 이용한 페놀과 톨루엔의 광분해)

  • The photodegradation of phenol and toluene with the $TiO_2$-coated polyethylene (PE) particles were investigated in the slurry type photocatalytic reactor, changing the $TiO_2$ particle sizes, initial phenol and toluene concentrations, and the oxygen flow rate. The nano-sized $TiO_2$ photocatalyst particles were prepared by the diffusion flame reactor and they were coated onto PE particles by using the hybridization system for the efficient recollection of $TiO_2$-coated particles after photodegradation experiments. The degradation efficiencies of phenol and toluene with the $TiO_2$-coated PE particles were more than 90% after photodegradation of 80 minutes for most cases. The efficiencies of photodegradation with the $TiO_2$-coated PE particles were found to be lower than those by the pure $TiO_2$ particles by 50%, because of the decrease in specific surface area of $TiO_2$ particles in PE particles.

  • Dynamic time warp(DTW) needs for interative calculations and the design of PE cell suitable for the operations is very important. Accordingly, this paper aims at the real time recognition design which enables large dictionary hardware realization using DTW algorithm. The DTW PE cell is seperated into three large blocks. "MIN" is the one block for counting accumulated minimum distance, "ADD" block calculates these minimum distances, and "ABS" seeks for the absolute values to the total sum of local distances. We have accomplisehd circuit design and verification for the MIN blocks, and performed MIN layout and DRC(design rule check) using 3um CMOS N-Well rule base.ing 3um CMOS N-Well rule base.

  • A study was conducted in order to remove Poly vinyl chloride (PVC) from granular plastic mixture by using Air Table. The motion of plastic particle on Air Table was investigated, and separation test on the plastic mixture with the mixing ratio of PVC 10% and PE 90% was conducted. At the optimum condition obtained from this study, that is frequency of 9.2Hz, air velocity of 1.05 m/sec, End-slope of $7.5 ^{\circ}$, Side-slope of $1^{\circ}$, Feeding speed of 450 g/min, etc., we could separate the PE-PVC mixture to PE (99.96% grade and 98.9% yield) and PVC (88.7% grade and 99.6% yield).

  • The polar parabolic equation method (Polar PE) which introduces a series of "cascaded" boundary fitting coordinates into the parabolic equation method has been verified as a good numerical method for atmospheric sound propagation over a curved surface and hills. Polar PE is applied here to underwater sound propagation over a sea mountain assuming locally reacting boundary sea bottom and pressure release water surface for the boundary conditions. Calculations are presented for underwater propagation over a 450 m high sea mountain. Feasibility of Polar PE application for underwater sound propagation over a smooth mountain is discussed.

The anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effect of Psoralea corylifolia on Ulcerative Colitis Induced by Dextran Sulfate Sodium in Mice

  • Objectives: This study was to investigate the anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effect of Psoralea corylifolia water extract (PE) on ulcerative colitis which was induced by dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) in mice. Methods: Ulcerative colitis was induced by DSS in male BALB/c mice. The mice were divided into 3 groups. The control group (Ctrl) was not induced ulcerative colitis. The pathological group (CE) was induced the colitis. The experimental group (PT) was administered PE after inducing the colitis. The effects of the PE on ulcerative colitis were evaluated by morphological change in the colon tissue and cells, substance P production, activity of tumor necrosis factor $(TNF)-{\alpha}$ and nuclear factor $(NF)-{\kappa}B$, cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 production, and anti-oxidative activity. Results: In the PT group, PE alleviated hemorrhagic erosion in colon mucosa and infiltration of inflammatory cells in lamina propria mucosae. In the colon of the PT group, COX-2 production was inhibited via regulating the activity of $TNF-{\alpha}$ and $NF-{\kappa}B$ p65. PE also had an anti-oxidative effect via activating nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2). Conclusions: In this study, we found the utility of treatment with PE and the potential of developing a medicine for ulcerative colitis by applying our results. Further investigations for the anti-inflammatory mechanism of PE may be needed.
