  • The experiment was done to clarify the effect of keeping material and storage temperature on weight and quality of Chinese yam (Dioscorea opposita) tuber. After the yam tubers were placed into the plastic boxes filled with different keeping materials [polyethylene (PE) film, hull, soil, sand, vermiculite], they were stored under different storage temperature(room, cold) from Oct. 15 to Mar. 15 when all the characters related to the tubers were measured. Soil or PE film as keeping materials was the lowest sound tuber rate when stored at room or cold temperature, respectively, while vermiculite was the highest in both storage temperature. When PE film and vermiculite in both storage temperatures were used as keeping materials, tuber weight were less reduced than the others. Brightness of chromaticity and moisture content were lower in room temperature storage than in cold temperature storage although the characteristics related to marketability were not affected by storage temperature. PE film had greater brightness and value 'a' of chromaticity but lower its 'b' value in the latter temperature than in the former temperature. Vermiculite, however, did the reverse result in comparison with PE film.

  • This research was conducted to compare the quality of paprika ($Capsicum$ $annuum$ L.) packed with PLA film and OPP/PE film pouches during storage at $6^{\circ}C$. Weight loss of paprika fruit was higher in OPP/PE film pouches, mold decay was shown in OPP/PE pouches after 6 days, but was not yet shown in PLA pouches. Hardness decreased in all packages. Soluble solid content was highest in PLA1 film pouch, vitamin C content was also highest in PLA2. Mold decay was not shown in PLA pouches after 9 day, but shown at calyx of paprika fruit in OPP/PE pouches. Off-flavor was strong in the OPP/PE pouches when the pouches were opened, decay was also serious in the same pouches after 15 days and thus quality was inadequate for sale in market.

  • Many PE (pre-erection) blocks are supported by wooden, concrete, or steel supports when they are stocked in the outdoor areas of a shipyard. Their positions and numbers are planned on the basis of the workers' experience. Recently, many shipyards have been making PE blocks with various shapes and weight distributions because of the variety of ships and building technologies. Therefore, it is now necessary to deal with blocks that they have no experience with. We propose a method to conveniently and quickly evaluate the structural safety of PE block supports, without the need for special knowledge and technology related to structural analysis. This method can reduce the large number of man hours (MH) normally needed for the analysis. The three-dimensional grillage analysis is performed for a simplified grillage model of a PE block. For efficiency, the grillage model of the PE block is automatically built from its three-dimensional CAD model, and its weight is also automatically distributed on the grillage model. The integrated system has been comprehensively implemented to perform the grillage analysis for the reaction forces on block supports. This paper describes how to make a grillage model of a PE block and estimate the weight distribution of the block on this grillage model. These steps are verified by comparing the supports reaction forces to those of the 3D finite element analysis for the PE blocks that are provided by a shipyard.

  • Percentiles are convenient measures of the entire range of values of simulation outputs. However, unlike means and standard deviations, the observations have to be stored since calculation of percentiles requires several passes through the data. Thus, percentile (PE) requires a large amount of computer storage and computation time. The best possible computation time to sort n observations is (O($nlog_{2}n$)), and memory proportional to n is required to store sorted values in order to find a given order statistic. Several approaches for extimating percentiles in RS(regenerative simulation) and non-RS, which can avoid difficulties of PE, have been proposed in [11, 12, 21]. In this paper, we implemented these three approaches known as : leanear PE, batching PE, spectral $P^2$ PE in the context of sequential steady-state simulation. Numerical results of coverage analysis of these PE approachs are present.

  • In order not to make the malwares be easily analyzed, the hackers apply various anti-reversing and obfuscation techniques to the malwares. However, as the more anti-revering techniques are applied to the malwares the more abnormal characteristics in the PE file's header which are not shown in the normal PE file, could be observed. In this letter, a new malware detection technique is proposed based on this observation. For the malware detection, we define the Characteristics Vector(CV) which can represent the characteristics of a PE file's header. In the learning phase, we calculate the average CV(ACV) of malwares(ACVM) and normal files(ACVN). To detect the malwares we calculate the 2 Weighted Euclidean Distances(WEDs) from a file's CV to ACVs and they are used to decide whether the file is a malware or not. The proposed technique is very fast and detection rate is fairly high, so it could be applied to the network based attack detection and prevention devices. Moreover, this technique is could be used to detect the unknown malwares because it does not utilize a signature but the malware's characteristics.

  • This study was performed to investigate effects of ethanol and dietary protein levels on protein metabolism in 15-week-old male rats given a normal diet. Rats were divided into 8 groups : control group (165 protein, 16 PC) and 8%(8PE), 16%(16PE) and 24% protein groups (24PE) to which was given 5% ethanol mixed into their drinking water after 4 weeks and 10 weeks. Body weight gain, organ weight, serum glucose concentration and liver protein concentrations were not affected by either ethanol or dietary protein levels. Serum total protein concentrations after 10 weeks were significantly increased in the 16 PE and 24PE groups compared with that of control group. Serum albumin concentrations after 10 weeks were significantly increased in all the ethanol-administered groups than that of control group. Fecal and urinary nitrogen metabolism wee not affected by ethanol.

  • Celite with enormous pore space inside can hold small molecules and can be well blended with polyethylene (PE) to make a Celite-PE film. Two types of Celite-PE film were prepared, one with Celite surface-treated with surfactant to reduce the hydrophilicity and another with plain Celite. The anti-rust chemical such as dicyclohexylamine, dicyclohexylamine nitrite, or diisopropylamine was allowed to permeate into celite pore in the film, and slowly evaporated to protect the packaged steel material from the rust for a long period of time. The chemical concentration in the different packaging film bags was analyzed by a gas chromatography for a month, and the anti-rust effect on iron labware was compared for a six month period. The Celite film was superior to PE film in anti-rust effect and the long-term anti-rust chemical evaporation.

  • Abstract The crack resistance of PSG(Phosphosilicate Glass) and PE-SiN(Plasma Enhanced CVD S${i_2}{N_4}$)films deposited on aluminium thin films on Si substrate was analyzed in this study. PSG was deposited by AP-CVD and PE- SiN by PE-CVD. All the films underwent repeated heat cycles at 45$0^{\circ}C$for 30 min. Crack formation and development were examined between each heat cycle. The crack behavior was found to be closely related to the stresses in the films. The stress induced by the difference in thermal expansion behavior between the passivation layers and underlying aluminum film may cause the crack. Crack resistance decreases as the thickness of PSG films increases due to the high tensile stress of the films. Phosphorus in the PSG films releases tensile stress and consequently the stress of the films tends to show compressive stress. As a result, crack resistance increased as the concentratin of P in the PSG films increased. Crack resistance in the PE-SiN films also increased with compressive stress. An experimental model to predict crack generation in the PSG and PE-SiN films during heat cycle was suggested.

  • This paper explores the optimal processing element (PE) configuration for ultrasonic image processing at different resolutions ($256{\times}256$, $768{\times}1,024$, and $1,024{\times}1,280$). To determine the optimal PE configuration, this paper evaluates the impacts of a data-per-processing element (DPE) ratio that is defined as the amount of image data directly mapped to each PE on system performance and both energy and area efficiencies using architectural and workload simulations. This paper illustrates the correlation between DPE ratio and PE architecture for a target implementation in 130nm technology. To identify the most efficient PE structure, seven different PE configurations were simulated for ultrasonic image processing. Experimental results indicate that the highest energy efficiencies were achieved at PEs=1,024, 4,096, and 16,384 for ultrasonic images at $256{\times}256$, $768{\times}1,024$, $1,024{\times}1,280$ resolutions, respectively. Furthermore, the maximum area efficiencies were yielded at PEs=256 ($256{\times}256$ image) and 4,096 ($768{\times}1,024$ and $1,024{\times}1,280$ images), respectively.

  • In this study, the flexural performance of Highly Ductile Cement Composites(HDCC) mimicking boundary conditions of shellfish skin layer was evaluated. To improve ductility by mimicking the boundary skin layer structure of shellfish, the method of stratification by charging between precast panels using HDCC and the method of distributing PE-mesh to the interface surface were applied. Evaluation of flexural performance of layered cement composite materials mimicking boundary conditions of shellfish skin layer resulted in increased ductility of all test specimens applied with stratified cross-section compared to typical bending test specimens. The layered method by inserting PE-mesh showed excellent ductility. This is most likely because the inserted PE-mesh made an interface for separating the layers while the HDCC pillars in the PE-mesh gave adhesion between layers.
