The effects of co-doping with complex dopants of softeners, $La^{+3}$ and/or $Nb^{+5}$, and a hardener, $Fe^{+3}$, on the microstructural and piezoelectric properties of PZT ceramics with a composition of a rhombohedral-tetragonal morphotropic phase boundary, $PbZr_{0.53}Ti_{0.47}O_3$, were investigated. Unlike single-element doping, the complex doping of both the softener and hardener ions led to various compensation effects for the piezoelectric properties of the PZT ceramics. For 0.5 wt.% $La_2O_3$ softener and/or 0.5 wt.% $Nb_2O_5$ doped compositions, there were apparent hardener doping (compensation) effects for an addition of over 1.0 wt.% $Fe_2O_3$. For the $La_2O_3$ and/or $Nb_2O_5$ doped composition, the co-dopant $Fe_2O_3$ addition led to lower kp and $\varepsilon$r, and increased $Q_m$ values. The prepared PZT ceramics modified with complex soft dopants, $La^{+3}$ and $Nb^+$, as well as a hard dopant, $Fe^{+3}$, showed that the piezoelectric properties were stable with the compositional variations, which made it possible to establish piezoelectric performances with higher reliability and reproducibility. The most improved piezoelectric properties of enhanced $Q_m$ with $\varepsilon_r$ remaining higher $k_p$, were obtained in the PZT composition complexly doped with $La^{+3}$ and $Fe^{+3}$. From the results obtained in this study, the properties of compositionally modified PZT ceramics can also be tailored over a wider range by changing the dopant compositions to meet the specific requirements for underwater or other applications.

In this study, recovery of plasma etching· damage in PZT thin film with additive gas and re-annealing after etching have been investigated. The PZT thin films were etched as a function of $Cl_2/CF_4$ with addition of Ar and $O_2$ with inductively induced plasma. The etch rates of PZT thin films were 1450 $\AA$/min at 30% additive Ar into $(Cl_2(80%)+CF_4 (20%))$ and 1100 $\AA$/min at 10% additive $O_2$ into $C(Cl_2(80%)+CF_4(20%))$. In order to recovery properties of PZT thin films after etching, the etched PZT thin films were re-annealed at various temperatures in at $O_2$ atmosphere. From the hysteresis curves, ferroelectrical properties are improved by $O_2$ re-annealing process. The improvement of ferroelectric behavior at annealed sample is consistent with the increase of the (100) and (200) PZT peaks revealed by x-ray diffraction (XRD). From x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis, intensity of Pb-O, Zr-O and Ti-O peak are increased and the chemical residue peak is reduced by $O_2$ re-annealing. The ferroelectric behavior consistent with the dielectric nature of $Ti_xO_y$ is recovered by $O_2$ recombination during rapid thermal annealing process.

The PZT thin films were etched as a function of $Cl_2/CF_4$ with addition of Ar and $O_2$ with inductively coupled plasma. The etch rates of PZT thin films were 1450 ${\AA}/min$ at 30% additive Ar and 1100 ${\AA}/min$ at 10% auditive $O_2$ into $Cl_2/CF_4$ gas mixing ratio of 8/2. In order to reduce plasma damage of PZT thin films after etching, the etched PZT thin films were re-annealed at various temperatures at $O_2$ atmosphere. From the hysteresis curries, the ferroelectric properties are improved by $O_2$ re-annealing process. Metasediment-hosted Pb-Zn mineralized zone has been found in Dyusembay of Kazakhstan. Its petrological properties, metal index, alteration index and redox-sensitivity are compared with those of SEDEX type deposit. Mineralization is developed along foliation of host rock (graphitic phyllite) and controlled by folds and faults; major ore minerals including pyrite, pyrrhotite, sphalerite, and galena are disseminated or interlayered with fine-grained quartz. The margin of the mineralized zone is metamorphosed accompanying sericite and chlorite. Hydrothermal brecciation and Pb-Zn mineralization formed in quartz-calcite stockworks are confirmed at the around of Maytyubin granitoid intrusions. The mineralization is classified into three types according to those of occurrence, paragenesis, chemical composition and isotopic characteristics. Type 1 whose fine-grained pyrite, pyrrhotite and sphalerite are formed in parallel yet discontinuous to well-developed foliations of the host rock; its geochemistry is similar to those of the earlier stage in SEDEX-type mineralization. In case of type 2, the ore minerals of which are concentrated being parallel to a foliation by regional metamorphism, and most of them associated with quartz and muscovite (${\pm}$ biotite) paragenetically. Type 3 is formed in the hydrothermal breccia zone whose ore minerals are controlled by foliation and breccia and developed in quartz ${\pm}$ calcite veins having a form such as stratification, stockwork or veinlets. Host rocks in the mineralized zone indicate homogeneous metamorphic grade and there is no specific alteration zonation. Also, all types (type 1, type 2, and type 3) represent similar REEs patterns, it can be interpreted that these are originated from a same source. Sulphides occurred in mineralized zone indicate a limited range of sulphur isotope values (type 2, ${\delta}^{34}S=-13.3{\sim}-11.7$‰; type 3, ${\delta}^{34}S=-13.9{\sim}-8.2$‰), and a result of geothermometry presents different temperature ranges: type 2($251{\pm}38^{\circ}C{\sim}277{\pm}40^{\circ}C$); type 3($360{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ to $537{\pm}29^{\circ}C$). It is estimated to be due to the effect of metamorphism and Maytyubin granitoid intrusions, respectively. In addition, ternary chart of thorium, scandium, and zircon for discrimination of tectonic setting and redox sensitivity using V/Mo values indicate that hydrothermal sediments put on reduction environment after precipitation, before being affected by metamorphism and intrusion activity. Geochemical data are plotted on a distal trend of SEDEX-type with discrimination plot using SEDEX index. As a result, petrological-geochemical properties demonstrate that Dyusembay Pb-Zn mineralized zone is comparable to distal-type of SEDEX deposit.

Various fabrication methods have been used to synthesize sapphire which has qualities of jewelry well beyond the industrial class. Among them, the flux sapphire of Chatham Company which has as high value as jewelry was selected in order to compare natural and synthetic sapphire. First, the WD-XRF (Wavelength dispersive x-ray fluorescence spectrometer) was used to analyze the chemical composition of natural and synthetic sapphire. Although natural sapphire had very diverse chemical compositions, flux sapphire had small quantities of Mo, Pt and Pb elements in addition to the similar chemical ingredients to natural one. Pt is decisive proof of flux sapphire. Next, by investigating spectroscopic characteristics using UV-VIS Spectrophotometer after heat treatment at high temperatures of $1300^{\circ}C$ and $1500^{\circ}C$, the variation of 690 nm absorbance related to $Cr^{3+}$ was detected in the natural sapphire while those of the 690 nm absorbance (related to $Cr^{3+}$) as well as absorbance of 376 nm and 388 nm ($Fe^{3+}$) were seen in the flux sapphire. It was found that the difference in the absorbance variation of flux sapphire is greater than that of natural sapphire after heat treatment. The chemical composition and spectrum analysis were utilized to compare the natural sapphire and the flux synthetic sapphire.
Lead and cadmium were analyzed with different pretreatemnt methods. Paddy soil and wastewater sludge samples were used and the result was compared each other. Pretreatment method affected the concentration obtained from samples significantly. Large difference was illustrated between the results. The concentration by 0.1N HCl extraction method, an official analytical method for soil and solid wastes, was far lower than those by the EPA3050B and mixed-acid digestion methods. The reason might be that metals associated with organics and silicates are not easily extracted by 0.1N HCl, while digestion methods using strong acids and high temperature dissolved all the elements in the samples. It implies that pretreatment method should be specified in addition to concentration on the report of metal analysis for environmental samples. Acid digestion methods are not necessarily good because the concentration obtained does not represent the natural condition which is our concern in many cases. The 0.1N HCl extraction method does not fully represent the natural condition either. The metals associated with organics will be extracted eventually as organics decompose with time. Therefore, proper pretreatment and analytical methods should be developed for specific purpose, and their standardization is recommended.
The Hongseong area of the southwestern Gyeonggi massif is considered to be part of suture zone that is tectonically correlated with the Qinling-Dabie-Sulu belt of China in terms of the preservation of collisional evidences during Triassic in age. The Wolhyeonri complex, preserved at the center of the Hongseong area, consists mainly of Neoproterozoic orthogneisses and Middle Paleozoic intermediate- to high-grade metamorphic schists, orthogneisses and mafic metavolcanics. The area includes various Middle to Late Triassic intrusives (e.g. dyke or stock). They are mainly monzonite and aplite with small intrusions of monzodiorit, syenite and diorite in composition. The SHRIMP U-Pb zircon ages yield 237 Ma to 222 Ma. The geochemistry of the studied Triassic intrusives show similar subuction- or arc-type signatures having Ta-Nb troughs, depletion of P and Ti, and enrichment of LILEs (large ion lithophile elements). In addition, the Triassic plutons in the Hongseong area, including those from this study, mostly possess high-K calc-alkaline to shoshonitic tectonic affinity. These results could be tectonically correlated to the post-collisional magmatic event following the Triassic collision between the North and South China blocks in China. Therefore, the Triassic plutons in the Hongseong area offer an important insight into the Triassic geodynamic history of the NE Asian region.

While dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is the most commonly used cryoprotectant agent in the cryopreservation of cultured mammalian cells, it has been reported to cause differentiation of some cell lines by DNA methylation and associated histone modifications. To avoid the side effects of DMSO in cryopreservation, other agents might be more appropriate for maintaining the stable differentiation of cultured cell phenotypes through cryopreservation. All cryoprotectants should be highly soluble in water and display low cell toxicity. Cryoprotective agents have been shown to be effective in animal sperm preservation, and eight types of amides were examined in the cryopreservation of cultured mouse endothelial cells. Among the amides examined, acetamide and lactamide were effective cryoprotectants for cultured mammalian cells. The most effective concentration of lactamide, 1.5 M, had an even lower cryoprotective ability than 1M DMSO. Because successful cryopreservation of cultured cells is hampered by osmotic stress, the adequate ionic concentration was determined by diluting phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) in the 1.5M lactamide solution. The most effective concentration was $0.4{\times}PBS$, which minimized osmotic stress during the cryopreservation of cultured cells. As the addition of high molecular weight materials in cryopreservation media improves the viability of cells, the effects of bovine serum albumin (BSA), hydroxyethyl-starch (HES), and dextran were examined. The best combination of lactamide-based media for cryopreservation was found to be 1.5 M lactamide in $0.4{\times}PBS$ with 1% BSA.
Aspergillus niger S-1 was proved to be a good hesperidinase producer which have been selected for naringinase utilization. Enzyme of this strain had good characteristics and purified relative high degree with good recovery by ammonium sulfate or aceton treatment. Results obtained were summarized as follows (1) The enzyme was most active at 60$^{\circ}C$, when the reaction was performed in the pH 4.0 for 30min. Optimum pH for enzyme activity was 5.0 and activity was retained 78% at pH value 3.5. (2) Hesperidinase activity retained 95% of its full activity after treatment at 60$^{\circ}C$ for 30min at pH value 4.0., 70% at 70$^{\circ}C$ and 65% at 80$^{\circ}C$. Most stable pH of this enzyme was showed 5.0 after treatment for 24hr at 4$^{\circ}C$ (3) Only Magnesium ion activated enzyme reaction, while other metallic ions, Cu$\^$++/, Mn$\^$++/, Pb$\^$++/, Mo$\^$++/, Ag$\^$++/, Hg$\^$++/ inhibited. (4) Eleven fold purification with 35% recovery was obtained in the case of 60% aceton treatment and 10-fold purification with 5.6% recovery was showed with 40% aceton comparing to the crude extract Enzyme. (5) Crude enzyme precipitated with 0.4-0.6 saturated ammonium sulfate contained 13f6 of the original enzyme activity with 48-fold increase in specific activity and enzyme has been purified 25 fold with a yield 19% by 0.6-5.8 saturation. (6) Hesperidinase formation was noticeably increased by addition of small amount of orange-peel extraction on the wheat bran medium.
