Although analysis of charts, which used in stock trading by distinguishing standardized patterns in the movements of stock prices, is simple and easy to use, there can be problems stemming from specific patterns being distinguished as a result of the subjective perspectives of analysts. In accordance with such problems, through the method of template pattern matching, 4 trend reversal patterns were designed and the fitness of the patterns were quantitatively measured. In cases when a stock is purchased when the template pattern fitness value is within a certain range and held for at least 20-days, the average return ratio was analyzed to be higher-with the difference being statistically significant-than the average return ratio attained from trading a stock according to the same method per the Efficient Market Hypothesis. From the results of stock trades of 2 domestic corporations to which the values of the 4 patterns had been applied based on the 4 strategies, it was possible to ascertain differences in the strategy- and pattern-dependent return ratios. Through this study, along with presenting the exceptions for the Efficient Market Hypothesis in stock trading, the fitness level of quantitative chart patterns was measured and the theoretical basis for application of such fitness level was proposed.
Face verification has been widely studied during the past two decades. One of the challenges is the rising concern about the security and privacy of the template database. In this paper, we propose a secure face verification system which generates a unique secure cryptographic key from a face template. The face images are processed to produce face templates or codes to be utilized for the encryption and decryption tasks. The result identity data is encrypted using Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). Distance metric naming hamming distance and Euclidean distance are used for template matching identification process, where template matching is a process used in pattern recognition. The proposed system is tested on the ORL, YALEs, and PKNU face databases, which contain 360, 135, and 54 training images respectively. We employ Principle Component Analysis (PCA) to determine the most discriminating features among face images. The experimental results showed that the proposed distance measure was one the promising best measures with respect to different characteristics of the biometric systems. Using the proposed method we needed to extract fewer images in order to achieve 100% cumulative recognition than using any other tested distance measure.
In this paper we propose a novel log template discovery algorithm which achieves high quality of discovered log templates through iterative log filtering technique. Log templates are the static string pattern of logs that are used to produce actual logs by inserting variable values during runtime. Identifying individual logs into their template category correctly enables us to conduct automated analysis using state-of-the-art machine learning techniques. Our technique looks at the group of logs column-wise and filters the logs that have the value of the highest proportion. We repeat this process per each column until we are left with highly homogeneous set of logs that most likely belong to the same log template category. Then, we determine which column is the static part and which is the variable part by vertically comparing all the logs in the group. This process repeats until we have discovered all the templates from given logs. Also, during this process we discover the custom patterns such as ID formats that are unique to the application. This information helps us quickly identify such strings in the logs as variable parts thereby further increasing the accuracy of the discovered log templates. Existing solutions suffer from log templates being too general or too specific because of the inability to detect custom patterns. Through extensive evaluations we have learned that our proposed method achieves 2 to 20 times better accuracy.
The Rapid transform is used in the recognition of Korean (Consonant) characters. The test pattern is represented by two gray levels (0 and 1). A 2-dimensinal rapid transform of the test pattern is computed. Feature selection is carried out in the Rapid transform domain. These features are used with the corresponding features of the template patterns in features of the template patterns in computing the Euclidian distance function and the decision is made based on the minimum distance criterion. Experimental results show that recognition rate is 94%.
This paper presents an image fingerprinting scheme for the print-to-capture model performed by a photo printer and digital camera. When capturing an image by a digital camera, various kinds of distortions such as noise, geometrical distortions, and lens distortions are applied. slightly and simultaneously. In this paper, we consider several steps to extract fingerprints from the distorted image in print-and capture scenario. To embed ID into an image as a fingerprint, multi-bits embedding is applied. We embed 64 bits information as a fingerprint into spatial domain of color images. In order to restore a captured image from distortions a noise reduction filter is performed and a rectilinear tiling pattern is used as a template. To make the template, a multi-bits fingerprint is embedded repeatedly like a tiling pattern. We show that the extracting is successful from the image captured by a digital camera through the experiment.
This article is concerned with automatic segmentation of two adjacent vowels for speech signals. All kinds of transition case of adjacent vowels can be characterized by spectrogram. Firstly the voiced-speech is extracted by the histogram analysis of vowel indicator which consists of wavelet low pass components. Secondly given phonetic transcription and transition pattern spectrogram, the voiced-speech portion which has consecutive vowels automatically segmented by the template matching. The cross-correlation function is adapted as a template matching method and the modified correlation coefficient is calculated for all frames. The largest value on the modified correlation coefficient series indicates the boundary of two consecutive vowel sounds. The experiment is performed for 154 vowel transition sets. The 154 spectrogram templates are gathered from 154 words(PRW Speech DB) and the 161 test words(PBW Speech DB) which are uttered by 5 speakers were tested. The experimental result shows the validity of the method.
