The results of stand and field testing of a combustion chamber for a heavy-duty 150 MW gas turbine are discussed. The model represented one of 14 identical segments of a tubular multican combustor constructed in the scale 1:1. The model experiments were executed at a pressure smaller than in the real gas turbine. The combustion efficiency, pressure loss factor, pattern factor, liner wall temperature, flame radiation, fluctuating pressure, and NOx emission were measured at partial and full load for both model and on-site testing. The comparison of these items of information, received on similar modes in the stand and field tests, has allowed the development of a method of calculation and the improvement of gas turbine combustors.
In automated search of a design database to support mechanical design, it is necessaryto recognize a shape pattern which represents a design object. This paper introduces the concept of a surface relation graph (SRG) for recognizing shape patterns from a 3D boundary representation scheme of a solid model(a B-rep model). In SRG, the nodes and arcs correspond to the faces and edges shared by two adjacent faces, respectively. An attribute assigned to an arc is given by an integer which discriminates the relationship between two adjacent faces. The + sign of the integer represents the geometric convexity of the solid, and the -sign the concivity at the shared edge. The input shape is recognized by comparison with the predefined features which are subgraphs of the SRG. A hierarchyof the database for upporting the design is presented. A search for the design database is also discussed. The usefulness of this method is illustrated by some application results.

Women were used as their own controls in the comparison of presterilization and poststerilization menstrual patterns. Five parameters were studied: regularity of cycle length, duration and amount of flow and incidence of dysmenorrhea and intermenstrual bleeding. Three parameters in the electrocoagulation group (regularity of cycle length and duration and amount of flow) and one parameter in the tubal ring group (duration of flow) showed significant changes after sterilization. However, by controlling for the effect of previous contraceptive methods used, no significant menstrual pattern changes following sterilization were discerned in either technique group.
The purpose of the present research is to develop an efficient numerical method for the calculation of potential flow and predict the wave-making resistance for the application to ship design of tuna purse seiner. The paper deals with the numerical calculation of potential flow around the series 60 with forward velocity by the new slender ship theory. This new slender ship theory is based on the asymptotic expression of the Kelvin-source, distributed over the small matrix at each transverse section so as to satisfy the approximate hull boundary condition due to the assumption of slender body. Some numerical results for series 60, C sub(b) =0.6, hull are presented in this paper. The wave pattern and wave resistance are computed at two Froude numbers, 0.267 and 0.304. These results are better than those of Michell's thin ship theory in comparison with measured results. However, it costs much time to compute not only wave resistance but also wave pattern over some range of Froude numbers. More improvements are strongly desired in the numerical procedure.

This paper describes briefly the simulation program for predicting the performance of a high speed turbocharged four cycle diesel engine. The wave phenomena in the intake and exhaust systems are calculated by the characteristic method. The combustion process in the power cycle is represented by the heat release pattern which is given by the Wiebe's function or the pattern based on measured values. Turbocharger matching for the engine is described by utilizing the characteristic maps of both the compressor and turbine, which are obtained from quasi-steady states. A comparison of experimental and calculated results shows a good agreement. Then the influences of the intake system, the period of valve overlap and the characteristics of the turbine are numerically investigated by the simulation.
The logistic model and the Bass model have diverse names and formulae in diffusion theory. This diversity makes users or readers confused while it also contributes to the flexibility of modeling. The method of handling the integration constant, which is generated in process of deriving the closed form solution of the differential equation for a diffusion model, results in two different 'actual' models. We rename the actual four models and propose the usage of the models with respect to the purpose of model applications. The application purpose would be the explanation of historical diffusion pattern or the forecasting of future demand. Empirical validation with 86 historical diffusion data shows that misuse of the models can draw improper conclusions for the explanation of historical diffusion pattern.
The colonization pattern and extent of decay produced in paddy stubble by soil inhabiting mycoflora were done by using nylon net bag technique. Among the three methods used for isolation of fungi, dilution plate technique recorded the highest number of fungi followed by damp chamber and direct observation method. Nutrient availability and climatic conditions (temperature, humidity and rainfall) influenced the occurrence and colonization pattern of fungi. Maximum fungal population was recorded in October ($48.99{\times}10^4/g$ dry litter) and minimum in May ($11.41{\times}10^4/g$ dry litter). Distribution of Deuteromycetous fungi was more in comparison to Zygomycetes, oomycetes and ascomycetes. In the early stage of decomposition Mucor racemosus, Rhizopus nigricans, Chaetomium globosum and Gliocladium species were found primarly whereas at later stages of decomposition preponderance of Aspergillus candidus, Torula graminis, Cladosporiun cladosporioides and Aspergillus luchuensis was recorded.
This paper proposes a fractal dimension method for measurement of degree of similarity between prototype pattern and input pattern at ART1 (Adaptive Resonance Theory 1) neural network. In order to confirm the validity of proposed method, comparison of the performance has made between the conventional method and the proposed method through simulation. The results show that the proposed method has considerably improved the performance.
To establish fabrication techniques for nano structure understanding of focused ion beam (FIB) milling process is required. In this study the mathematical model containing the factors related to FIB milling is developed to acquire the optimal fabrication condition. Then, the model is verified by comparison with various nano pattern fabricated in actual FIB system. Consequently, it is demonstrated that the nano patterns with the smallest pitch can be fabricated using developed FIB milling model.

This paper proposes an improved carrier frequency offset (CFO) and sampling frequency offset (SFO) estimation scheme for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based broadcasting system with cyclic delay diversity (CDD) antenna. By exploiting a periodic nature of channel transfer function, cyclic delay and pilot pattern with a maximum channel power are carefully chosen, which helps to enable a robust estimation of CFO and SFO against the frequency selectivity of the channel. As a performance measure, a closed-form expression for the achievable mean square error of the proposed scheme is derived and is verified through simulations using the parameters of the digital radio mondiale standard. The comparison results show that the proposed frequency estimator is shown to benefit from properly selected delay parameter and pilot pattern, with a performance better than the existing estimator.
