  • This study explores the perspective of mothers who have children at teens concerning grandparents' role and grandchildren's role, especially focusing on the similarity and difference according to lineage. The analysis indicates as below. 1. Mothers highly expect the roles of grandparents which are related to the developing of self-identity of grandchildren at teens. There is much similarity between mothers; view on paternal grandparents' role and maternal grandparents' role. However the results support that paternal grandparents' role is more central than maternal grandparents in influencing to the development of self identity of grandchildren. 2. Grandchildren's role toward paternal grandparents is expected much more positively than grandchildrens' role toward maternal grandparents. 3. Mother's perspective on grandparents' role and grandchildren's role is associated with mother's view on the importance of grandparents in the lives of grandchildren.

청년기 손자녀-친/외조부모간 유대와 접촉, 가치유사성 및 부모-조부모 관계 질과의 관계 (The Affective Solidarity Between Grandparents and Their Grandchildren in Emerging Adulthood, Focused on Lineage and Grandchildren's Sex)

  • 본 연구는 청년기 손자녀의 인식을 기초로 조손간의 유대관계를 이해하는 것에 목적을 두었으며 손자녀 성(손자, 손녀)과 조부모 혈족(친조부모, 외조부모)에 따라 구분하여 조손관계를 분석하였다. 연구대상은 조부모님이 적어도 한 분 이상 생존해 계시는 만 19~25세의 청년세대 501명을 대상으로 자기보고식 설문지를 통해 평가하였다. 손자녀와 조부모간의 직접적 관계에 기초한 주요 특성변인들이 손자녀 성에 따라 차이가 있는지 t검증을 실시하고, 조손유대에 대한 부모특성변인들과 개인특성변인들의 설명력을 확인하기 위해 위계적 회귀분석을 실시하였으며, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 손자녀 성에 따라 친조부모와의 가치유사성, 친조부모와의 유대, 외조부모와의 접촉에서 유의미한 차이가 나타났다. 둘째, 지각된 아버지-조부모 관계 질, 어머니-조부모 관계 질, 접촉, 가치유사성은 모든 조손관계에서 조손유대를 유의미하게 예측하였으나, 각 특성변인의 상대적인 설명력은 각 조손관계에 따라 다양한 양상으로 나타나 조손유대를 설명하는 메커니즘이 손자, 손녀와 부계, 모계에 따라 다름을 보여주었다. 이러한 결과에 기초한 한국문화적 맥락에 따른 함의와 후속연구를 위한 제언을 논의에 제시하였다.

아동이 지각한 조부모의 사회적 지지와 아동의 사회적 능력과의 관계 (A Study on the Relationship between Perceived Grandparent's Social Support and Children's Social Competence)

  • In general, grandparents have been very influential resource persons on their grandchildren's gross development. Nevertheless it has been difficult to find many empirical studies that focused on the specific competence of grandchildren and showed strong evidence in its regard. Therefore this study was intented to investigate the influence of grandparents' social support on their grandchildren's social competence in the light of grandparent's social support on their grandchildren's social competence in the light of grandchildren-grandparent relationship. The subjects were 230 fifth grade children in elementary school who were 123 boys and 107 girls. Among them, 94 children were related with grandfathers, 167 children with grandmothers 101 children with maternal grandfathers and 182 children with maternal grandmothers. The questionaire was used as a methodological instrument and the statistics such as frequency, percentile, mean, Pearson's correlation, One-Way ANOVA and Scheff test were used for data analysis. The findings were as follows : 1) Children's affectional intimacy to grandparent was positively correlated with perceived grandparent's social support. 2) Perceived grandparent's social support was affirmatively correlated with grandparent-mother relationship, that is, grandchildren-grandparent relationship was mediated by mother. And 3) children who more perceived grandparent's social support than less perceived grandparent's social support were highly rated I social competence by teacher. In the result, children emotionally, informatively and instrumentally supported by paternal or maternal grandparents showed high social competence defined supported by paternal or maternal grandparents showed high social competence defined as interpersonal relationship ability on the significant level respectively.

유아기 손자녀를 둔 조모의 역할유형과 관련 변인들 : 사회인구학적 특성, 조모-손자녀 접촉 정도 및 조모-모 친밀감 (Types of Grandmothers with Preschool-Aged Grandchildren and Its Correlates : Demographic Characteristics, Contacts between Grandmothers and Grandchildren, and Closeness between Grandmothers and Mothers)

  • The objective of this study was to identify role types as they pertain to paternal and maternal grandmothers based on four role dimensions. To this end, a sample of 416 mothers of preschoolers was used. This study also examined correlates of and differences in the type of grandparents in terms of paternal and maternal types of grandmothers. Data were analyzed by K-means clustering, Chi-square, and multi-nominal logistic regression analysis. Grandmothers were classified into five distinct groups : influential, supportive, authority-oriented, passive, and detached types. Maternal grandmothers seemed to be relatively more involved with their grandchildren than paternal ones. The type of grandmothers varied as a function of socioeconomic status, the number of grandchildren, and geographical proximity for paternal grandmothers, and mothers' employment status and the closeness between grandmothers and mothers for maternal grandmothers. The results imply that grandmothers are currently becoming more active in their grandchildren's lives and that kinship in Korean society tends to lean to the maternal side.

청소년기 손자녀에 대한 조부모의 역할에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Grandparents' Role in Their Relationship with Grandchildren in Adolescent)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine grandparents' role to their grandchildren, the role type, and the variables that influence the role. For this purpose, data were collected from 542 grandparents through questionnaire. The main findings are as follows: 1. The most frequent role activity that grandparents perform include 'advising their grandchildren to be successful,' 'encouraging them to study hard,' 'having them help housework,' and 'teaching them how to behave', whereas the least one is 'to teach things such as cooking, paduk, and chess.' 2. Supporting role, educating role and raising role are three types of grandparents' role activity to their grandchildren. 3. One of the significant variables affecting their role level is living arrangement of grandparents. In addition, age, economic level, and educational level are partially effective variables in grandparents' role, along with whether they work or not, how often they meet their grandchildren, and how old their grandchildren are. However, it is not among significant variables whether they are healthy, or whether they are paternal or maternal.

세대간 애정적 결속에 있어서 부계와 모계의 비교 연구 (A Study on Intergenerational Affective Solidarity in Korean Families)

  • 본 연구는 세대간 애정적 결속의 양상과 결정요인을 부계와 모계로 구분하여 분석하고자 하였다. 세대간의 경제적, 도구적 정서적 지원을 통한 기능적 결속이나 잦은 만남 내지 연락을 통한 교류적 결속 거주지의 근접성을 바탕으로 한 구조적 결속의 양상과 변화에 대한 연구들과 달리 세대간 친밀감을 나타내는 애정적 결속에 대한 연구는 부족한 편이었다. 본 연구에서는 손자녀가 조부모에 대해 느끼는 정서적 친밀감을 종속변수로 하여 애정적 결속이 어떻게 나타나는지 살펴보고자 하였다. 또한 앞서 언급한 기능적, 교류적, 구조적 결속같은 요인들이 어떻게 애정적 결속에 영향을 미치는지를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 2011년 7월에 조사된 세대별 문화경험과 문화인식에 관한 설문조사에서 자녀가 있는 기혼이면서 양가 부모중 적어도 한분씩은 생존해 있는 30~59세 응답자 330명을 대상으로 분석하였다. 방법론으로는 '양가 조부모에게 느끼는 친밀감이 같다'라는 응답을 준거집단으로 삼은 다항로짓회귀분석을 사용하여 부계와 모계간에 변수별 영향력이 어떻게 다르게 나타나는지 보았다. 그 결과 부계에서는 경제적 지원 관계가 애정적 결속을 높이는 주요한 요인으로 드러난 반면, 모계에서는 경제적 지원뿐 아니라 도구적, 정서적 지원도 주요한 요인으로 작용하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

조모-성인자녀 결속도와 조모역할수행 간의 관계에서 돌봄만족과 손주관계의 조절된 매개효과 (Grandmother-Adult Child Solidarity and Grandmother's Child-rearing Role: Moderated Mediation Effect of Caregiving Satisfaction and Relation with Grandchild)

  • This study examined how the relationship between grandmother-adult child solidarity, caregiving satisfaction, and grandmother's child-rearing role varies according to the relation with the grandchild. Mediation effects and moderated mediation effects were analyzed to investigate the relationship between these variables. The participants were 295 grandmothers raising preschool-aged grandchildren in the Seoul and Gyeonggi areas. Data was analyzed using SPSS 23.0 and PROCESS macro, performing correlation analysis and hierarchical regression analysis. The statistical significance of the indirect effect was examined using a bootstrapping procedure. The results are as follows. First, grandmother-adult child solidarity directly affects the grandmother's child-rearing role. Second, grandmother-adult child solidarity indirectly affects the grandmother's child-rearing role through caregiving satisfaction. Third, the direct and indirect effects of grandmother-adult child solidarity on the grandmother's child-rearing role are moderated by the relation with the grandchild. The direct effect of grandmother-adult child solidarity on grandmother's child-rearing role was therefore shown to be significant on the maternal grandmother. Fourth, the indirect effect of grandmother-adult child solidarity on the grandmother's child-rearing role through caregiving satisfaction was shown to be significant on the paternal grandmother. Based on the results of this study, we discussed ways to strengthen the capacity of co-parenting between grandparents and adult children.
