  • This study was conducted to evaluate the dry matter yield and quality of the before and after renovation of summer depression damaged pasture, and carried out at Chungnam National University ffom 1997 to 1999. The yield of DM in first and second year of after renovation, comparing with those of before renovation(6,547kg/ha), significantly increase obtained 12,291kglha and 13,50Ikg/ha, respectively(P<0.05). In the chemical composition, CP content and DM digestibility were markedly increased comparing with those of before renovation(P<0.05), but the contents of NDF, ADF, cellulose and lignin were decreased respectively(P<0.05). In the botanical composition, weeds after renovation was markedly decreased comparing with before renovation, but increased the percentage of herbage in summer depression damaged pasture. The results from this study, It is proved that a renovation method, which was conducted by two times of reseeding and raking, was effective in recovering botanical composition of herbage, and enhancing productivity and upgrading quality in summer depression damaged pasture. • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of renovation of white clover dominated pasture. It was arranged in a randomized block design with two mixture types: 5-species mixtures(5-SM); orchardgrass 40% + tall fescue 20% + perennial ryegrass 10% + Kentucky bluegrass 10% + red clover 20% and 8-species mixtures(8-SM); orchardgrass 40% + tall fescue 20% + perennial ryegrass 10% + Kentucky bluegrass 5% + redtop 5% + red fescue 5% + alfalfa 5% + red clover 10%. This study was carried out from 1997 to 1999 at Chungnam National University. In the white clover dominated pasture, the DM yield was higher obtained in the 8-SM than that of in 5-SM, but there was no significant difference between 8-SM and 5-SM in both chemical composition and DM digestibility except content of CP. The yields of CPDM and DDM were higher in 8-SM than those in 5-SM as well(P

  • This study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of legume reseeding on legume establishment, dry matter yield, quality and botanical composition of grasses in timothy(Ph1eum prarense L.) dominated pasture at alpine area. Establishment number and percentage of legume in timothy dominated pasture were increased with spring, red clover(Tr$olium pratense L.) and gramoxone $treatment Dry matter yield of pasture was increased with fall and grazing after overseeding, but, there waq no difference in legume species. Crude protein content(%) of grasses at the first cutting was increased with red clover and paraquat (gramoxone) treatment. Based on the results, it is suggested that spring in seeding time, red clover in legume species and oveneeding after gramoxone treatment are good for effective renovation of timothy dominated pasture at alpine area.

  • This experiment was undertaken to determine the effect of pasture ages on the total production and seasonal yield trends, botanical composition and forage quality of pasture mixtures. This experiment was conducted at the Livestock Experiment Station, RDA, Suweon. The results obtained were as follows : 1. Total dry matterDM) yield of pasture mixtures was the highest in the first year, and thereafter no significant reduction in the 2nd through the 4th year, but decreased by 30% in the 5th year. 2. The 34.4% of total DM yield was produced at the first cut, and decreased from then on. Total DM yield of pasture mixtures varied by year and climatic facton. In 1992, Total DM and TDN yields of pasture mixtures were 13.4 and 8.5 IvlT/ha, respectively. 3. The content of crude protein(CP), in virro DM digestibility(IVDMD) and TDN of pasture mixtures were 12-14, 70-80, and 62-65%, respectively. The highest forage quality was obtained at the 4th cutting. 4. The botanical compositions of legumes and weeds were increased as the year of establishment advanced, and highly increased at the 3rd cut after summer growth. 5. Based on the results of this study it appears that economic forage production could be expended to the 4th year with proper management, and the special renovation techniques may be needed for maintenance of pasture yield from the 5th year.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of herbicide treatment and seeding method on the forage yield, weed control, and persistency in the Artemisia princeps dominated pasture. It was arranged as a randomized block design with seven treatments(\circled1 oversowing(control),\circled2 glyphosate 4 ${\ell}$/ha + oveysowing a \circled3glyphosate 4 ${\ell}$/ha + chiselreseeding, \circled4 paraquat dichloride 3 ${\ell}$/ha + oversowing,\circled5 paraquat dichloride 3 ${\ell}$/ha + chiselreseeding, \circled6 dicamba 4 ${\ell}$/ha + oversowing and \circled7 dicamba 4 ${\ell}$/ha + chiselreseeding), and conducted at National Livestock Research Institute in Suwon from June, 1985 to October, 1987. In the Artemisia princeps dominated pasture, the treatments of glyphosate 4 ${\ell}$/ha before oversowipg or chisel reseeding controlled 80.7-83.3% of the Artemisia princeps, and for two years the average dry weight of Artemisiaprinceps greatly decreased, but dry matter(DM) yield of forage increased 57-96% than that pf control. In the herbicide treatments, the average DM yield of forage in the plots with chisel r e d i n g was significantly higher when compared to oversowing. The results in this study indicated that herbicide treatment was effective for the control of Artemisiaprinceps, and good renovation of grassland and higher DM yield of forage could be obtained by application of glyphosate.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of herbicide treatment on the forage yield, nutrient productivity, weed control and persistency in the Rumex crispus dominated pasture in Suwon and in Youngam kom June, 1993 to October, 1995, respectively. It was arranged as a randomized block design with five treatments : 1. reseeding at middle August, 2. dicamba 2liter /ha+reseeding at early July, 3. dicamba 24liter ha+reseeding at middle August, 4.dicamba 2lliter /ha+reseeding at early July +dicamba 14 /ha and 5.dicamba 24liter /ha +reseeding at middle August +dicamba 1liter/ha. In the Rumex crispus dominated pasture, the treatments of dicamba 2liter ha+reseeding(early July or middle August)+dicarnba 1liter/ha were controlled 77-92% of the weed, and increased 105- 141% of forage yield and were higher 88-141% of energy (TDN and NEL) productivity compared with reseeding at middle August (control), respectively. The results indicated that herbicide treatment was effective for the control of Rumex crisps and renovation of grassland, and higher forage yield could be obtained by twice applications of dicamba.
