In this study, we investigated the effect of electrode pattern design on the thermal shock resistance and temperature uniformity of a ceramic heater. A cordierite substrate with a low thermal expansion coefficient was fabricated by tape casting, and a tungsten electrode was printed and used as a heating element. The temperature distribution of the ceramic heater was calculated by a finite-element method (FEM) by considering various electrode patterns, and the tensile stress distribution due to the thermal stress was calculated. In the electrode pattern with a single-line width, the central part of the ceramic heater was heated to the maximum temperature, and the position of the ceramic heater having a double-line width was changed to the maximum temperature, depending on the position of the minimum line width pattern. The highest tensile stress was found along the edges of the ceramic heater. The temperature gradient at the edge determined the tensile stress intensity. The smallest tensile stress was observed for electrode pattern D, which was expected to be advantageous in resisting thermal shock failures in ceramic heaters.
Novel silane grafted bentonite was obtained using the natural bentonite as precursor material. The material which is termed as nanocomposite was characterized by the Fourier Transform Infra-red (FT-IR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) methods. The surface imaging and elemental mapping was performed using Scanning Electron Microscopic (SEM/EDX) technique. The electroanalytical studies were performed using the nanocomposite electrode. The electroactive surface area of nanocomposite electrode was significantly increased than the pristine bentonite or bare carbon paste based working electrode. The impedance spectroscopic studies were conducted to simulate the equivalent circuit and Nyquist plots were drawn for the carbon paste electrode and nanocomposite electrodes. A single step oxidation/reduction process occurred for As(III) having ΔE value 0.36 V at pH 2.0. The anodic stripping voltammetry was performed for concentration dependence studies of As(III) (0.5 to 20.0 ㎍/L) and reasonably a good linear relationship was obtained. The detection limit of the As(III) detection was calculated as 0.00360±0.00002 ㎍/L having with observed relative standard deviations (RSD) less than 4%. The presence of several cations and anions has not affected the detection of As(III) however, the presence of Cu(II) and Mn(II) affected the detection of As(III). The selectivity of As(III) was achieved using the Tlawng river water sample spiked with As(III).
Direct electron transfer of hemoglobin (Hb) in the chitosan (CTS) and $TiO_2$ nanoparticles (nano-$TiO_2$) composite films was achieved by using a room temperature ionic liquid of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ($BMIMPF_6$) modified carbon paste electrode (CILE) as the basal electrode. UV-Vis and FT-IR spectroscopy indicated that Hb in the film retained the native structure. Electrochemical investigation indicated that a pair of well-defined quasi-reversible redox peaks of Hb heme Fe(III)/Fe(II) was obtained with the formal potential located at -0.340 V (νs. SCE) in pH 7.0 phosphate buffer solution (PBS). The electrochemical parameters such as the electron transfer coefficient (α), the electron transfer number (n) and the standard electron transfer rate constant ($k_s$) were got as 0.422, 0.93 and 0.117 $s^{-1}$, respectively. The fabricated CTS/nano-$TiO_2$/Hb/CILE showed good electrocatalytic ability to the reduction of trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$), which exhibited a potential application in fabricating a new kind of third generation biosensor.
Powder electroluminescent device (PELD) structured conventionally dielectric and phosphor layer, between electrode and their layer fabricated by screen printing splaying or spin coating method. To promote performance of PELDs, we approached the experiments for different structure and thickness variation of PELD. Thickness variation($30{\mu}m{\sim}130{\mu}m$) was taken. To investigate electrical and optical properties of PELDs, EL spectrum, transferred charge density using Sawyer-Tower's circuit brightness was measured. Variation of structure in PELDs was as follows: WK-1 (ITO/BaTiO3/ZnS:Cu/Silver paste), WK-2 (ITO/BaTiO3/ZnS:Cu/BaTiO3/ZnS:Silver paste), WK-3 (ITO/BaTiO3/ZnS:Cu/BaTiO3/Silver paste), WK-4(ITO/BaTiO3+ZnS:Cu/Silver paste) As a result, structure of the highest brightness appeared WK-4 possessed 60 ${\mu}m$ thickness. The brightness was 2719 cd/$m^2$ at 100V, 400Hz.

Ag thick-film has usually been used for the front electrode of Si solar cells with the outstanding electrical properties. Ag paste consists of Ag powers, vehicles, frits and additives. Ag paste has broadly been screen-printed on the front side of Si wafer with the merits of low cost and simplicity. The optimal contact formation between Ag electrodes and Si wafer in the front electrode during a fast firing has been considered as the key factor for high efficiency. Although the content of frit in Ag pastes is less than 5wt%, it can profoundly influence the contact formation between Ag and Si under the fast firing. In this study, the effects of lead-free frits on the contacts between Ag and Si were studied with the thermal properties and compositions of various frits. Our experimental results showed that the electrical properties of cells were related to the interface structures between Ag and Si. It was found that current path of electrons from Si to Ag would be possible through the tunneling mechanism assisted by tens of nano-Ag recrystals on $n^+$ emitter as well as Ag recrystals penetrated into $n^+$ emitter layers. These preliminary studies will be helpful for designing the proper frits for the Ag pastes with considering the properties of various Si wafers.
When butyl rubber dissolved in toluene was used as a binder of carbon powder, carbon paste showed a mechanical hardness due to the fast volatility of the solvent just after the electrode fabrication. With a view of validating its quantitative electrochemical behaviors, its kinetic parameters, e.g. the symmetry factor, the exchange current density, the capacity of the double layer, the Michaelis constant, the time constant and other factors were investigated. Our experimental facts indicated that butyl rubber is available for a promising binder of carbon powder.

In this study, the opto-electric properties of EL devices with PMN dielectric layer with variation of firing tempereature were investigated. For the PMN dielectric layer process, the paste was prepared by optimization of quantitative mixing of PMN powder, $BaTiO_3$, Glass Frit, $\alpha$-Terpineol and ethyl cellulose. The EL device stack consists of Alumina substrate ($Al_2O_3$), metallic electrode (Au), insulating layer (manufactured PMN paste), phosphor layer (ELPP- 030, ELK) and transparent electrode (ITO), which is well structure as a thick film EL device. The phase transformation properties of PMN dielectric with various firing temperatures of $150^{\circ}C$ to $850^{\circ}C$ was characterized by XRD. Also the opto-electric properties of EL devices with different firing temperature were investigated by LCR meter and spectrometer. We found the best opto-electric property was obtained at the condition of $550^{\circ}C$ firing which is 3432.96 $cd/m^2$ at 1948.3 pF Capacitance, 40 kHz Frequency, 40% Duty, Vth+330 V voltage.

For the detection of trace copper to be used in medical diagnosis, a sensitive handmade carbon nanotube paste electrode (PE) was developed using voltammetry. Analytical optimized conditions were found at 0.05 V anodic peak current. In the same conditions, various common electrodes were compared using stripping voltammetry, and the PE was found to be more sharply sensitive than other common electrodes. At optimum conditions, the working ranges of $3{\sim}19{\mu}gL^{-1}$ were obtained. The relative standard deviation of $70.0{\mu}gL^{-1}$ was determined to be 0.117% (n = 15), and the detection limit (S/N) was found to be $0.6{\mu}gL^{-1}$ ($9.4{\times}10^{-9}M$). The results were applied in detecting copper traces in the kidney and the brain cells of fish.
Cu(II) ion-responsive chemically modifed electrodes (CMEs) were constructed by incorporating 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol (PAN) into a conventional carbon-paste mixture of graphite powder and Nujol oil. Cu(II) ion was chemically deposited on the surface of the PAN-chemically modified electrode in the absence of an applied potential by immersion of the electrode in a buffer solution (pH 3.2) containing Cu(II) ion, and then reduced at a constant potential in 0.1 M KNO$_3$. And a well-defined voltammetric peak could be obtained by scanning the potential to the positive direction. The electrode surface could be regenerated with exposure to acid solution and reused for the determination of Cu(II) ion. In 5 deposition / measurement / regeneration cycles, the response could be reproduced with 6.1${\%}$ relative standard deviation. In case of using the differential pulse voltammetry, the calibration curve for Cu(II) was linear over the range of 2.0 ${times}$ 10$^{-7}$ ∼ 1.0 ${times}$ 10$^{-6}$ M. And the detection limit was 6.0 ${times}$ 10$^{-8}$ M. Studies of the effect of diverse ions showed that Co, Ni, Zn, Pb, Mg and Ag ions added 10 times more than Cu(II) ion did not influence on the determination of Cu(II) ion, except EDTA and oxalate ions.
