A seroepidemiologic survey for human sparganosis in Gangweon-do

  • Gangweon-do is known to be highly endemic area of sparganosis more than other provinces in Korea. A seroepidmiologic examination for the detection of anti-Spirometra erinacei plerocercoid IgG in serum was carried out in normal inhabitants in Hongcheon-gun, Gangweon-do. Sere were tested by enzyme-linked immunosrobent assay (ELISA) for the anti-sparganum antibodies. Positive rate for anti-sparganum antibody in 719 adults was 3.3%. Data of the questionnaire for 24 ELISA positive inhabitants revealed that 20 had a history of eating raw meat of snakes, 24 had a history of eating frogs, and 24 had a history of drinking stream water. Two positive cases had a past history of sparganosis. Two positive cases showed current symptoms of sparganosis. The data revealed that ELISA would be useful to find infected cases among normal inhabitants at sparganosis-endemic areas.

한국의 개고기 식용의 역사와 문화 (Dog Meat Eating History and Culture in Korea)

  • Dog meat was begun to be edible by the Chinese, Japanese, the French, Belginan, German Philippines Vietnamese, North-Americans African-Indians Canadian-aborigines Alaskan aborigines including Kor-eans. According to the record, Korea has a long history to have eaten dog meat from the era of Sam-kug(three kingdoms BC 57∼AC 668) and so there are numerous languages proverbs, and customs re-lated to the dog meat. Over the long history there have been many records and recipes about the edib-leness of dog meat. But at present time only the way of cooking such as Bosintang(a soup) Suyuk(a boiled meat) Duruchighi(boiled meat added spice and slightly roasted) Muchim(boiled meat added by spice and mixed) Gaesoju(an extract) Jeongol(boiled meat mixed with spices vegetables and water on the pot) remains. Koreans eat dog meat following the traditional customs n the Boknal(hottest day in summer). Also the areas of Buyo. Sochon, Boryong adn Chongyang of Chungnam province and the ad-jacent areas like Kongju, Iksan, and Nonsan have customs to kill the dog and offer dog meat to the gue-sts in time of small or big occasions such as funeral ceremony Hoigap(anniversary of one's 60th birth-day) and one's birthday. This range of customs is expanding larger and larger. These areas are the cen-ter of past Baekche(BC 57∼AC 660). In spite of this it is unreasonable, and excessive action for foreig-ner to fine fault with the dog meat or Korean food culture.

복부비만과 허혈성 뇌졸중 (Abdominal Obesity as a Risk Factor of Ischemic Stroke in Case-control study)

  • Objective: The purposes of this study are to know the relations of abdominal obesity and ischemic stroke and to know what index could represent the abdominal obesity appropriately. Methods. We have done case-control study and recruited 97 ischemic stroke patients and 117 controls. Case is matched by control by individual matching. All participants had questionnaire, interview and then were examined waist-hip ratio, waist circumference and body mass index. Results : WC, WHR and Hypertension history had differences in two groups, case and control groups. But BMI and other factors weren't significant. According to Quartile of Waist Circumference, the two groups had the differences in hypertension history, diabetes history, smoking status, WHR, BMI, and weight and in the Quartile of Waist-Hip Ratio Quartile, past history of hypertension and diabetes, WC, BMI and weight had the significances. Sex, Age Adjusted and Multivariate Odds Ratio (95% Confidence Interval) of WC Quartile are 2.083, 1.628, 4.491 and 4.418, 4.964, 12.306, and in WHR, the Ors are 2.252, 5.743, 15.776 and 2.632, 8.918, 23.596. Conclusions: We knew from these results that abdominal obesity is very important risk factor of ischemic stroke and WHR more than WC is a good indicator of abdominal obesity, so we should reduce the WHR to prevent of ischemic stroke.

記憶とパワーのジェンダーポリティックス: 東アジアの国際関係において日本の平和憲法と慰安部問題の意味づけ (Gendered Politics of Memory and Power: Making Sense of Japan's Peace Constitution and the Comfort Women in East Asian International Relations)

  • This paper examines how Japanese society produced and reproduced a distinctively gendered history and memories of the experience of WWII and colonialism in the postwar era. We argue that these gendered narratives, which were embedded in postwar debates about the Peace Constitution and comfort women, have engendered contradictions and made the historical conflicts with neighboring countries challenging to resolve. On the one hand, this deepens conflict, but on the other, it also generates stability in East Asia. After Japan's defeat in WWII, the American Occupation government created the Peace Constitution, which permanently "renounces war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes." The removal of the state's monopoly on violence - the symbol of masculinity - resulted in Japan's feminization. This feminization led to collective forgetting of prewar imperialism and militarism in postwar Japan. While collectively forgetting the wartime history of comfort women within these feminized narratives, the conservative movement to revise the Peace Constitution attempted to recover Japan's masculinity for a new, autonomous role in international politics, as uncertainty in East Asia increased. Ironically, however, this effort strengthened Japan's femininity because it involved forgetting Japan's masculine role in the past. This forgetting has undermined efforts to achieve masculine independence, thus reinforcing dependence on the United States. Recurrent debates about the Peace Constitution and comfort women have influenced how Japanese political elites and intellectual society have constructed distinctive social institutions, imagined foreign relations, and framed contemporary problems, as indicated in their gendered restructuring of history.

조선전기 기록관리 체계의 이해 (An Understanding of the Archival Management in Early Joseon Dynasty)

  • 본고에서는 조선전기 기록관리 체계의 윤곽을 살펴보면서 그 성격을 검토하였다. 먼저 과거의 기억, 당대 기록의 작성, 기록을 통한 미래의 전망이라는 측면에서 살펴보고, 실록의 성격에 대하여 기록학 개념을 통해 점검해보았다. 조선전기 과거의 정리는 기존 역사서의 연구와 간행을 병행하면서 진행되었다. 국사(國史) 영역에서는 정사(正史)인 "고려사", 편년인 "고려사절요", 통사인 "동국통감"으로 귀결되었다. 동아시아사 편찬은 "치평요람"으로 나타났다. 조선초기에는 국사와 동아시아사에 관한 정사와 통사가 편찬됨으로써 과거 경험의 활용이라는 실제적인 필요에 부응하였다. 새로운 나라를 세우면서 이전 시대인 고려와 중국의 역사기록을 정리할 필요가 있었고, 그 과정은 자연스럽게 조선의 정통성을 형성하는 과정이기도 하였다. 관료제는 조선 정부의 기록관리 체계를 더욱 발전시켰다. 직무의 연속성과 증거능력을 중시하는 관료제는 필연적으로 문서 생산을 증대시켰기 때문이다. 이에 따라 초기에는 중국 명(明)의 "홍무예제"를 차용하기도 했으나, 곧 "경국대전"에서 조선 나름의 행정문서 관리 방식을 갖추기에 이르렀다. 그런데 조선의 당대 기록관리는 이원적인 구조로 이루어졌다. 일반 행정문서는 생애주기론에 따라 살펴보았을 때 근대 기록관리와 큰 차이가 없었다. 차이를 보이는 것은 바로 사초의 작성과 실록의 편찬이었다. 그래서 사초와 실록의 편찬을 기록학의 원본성과 신뢰성 개념을 통하여 검토하였다. 공적 권한을 가진 사관에 의해 생산되는 점에서 사초와 실록의 원본성은 물론이고, 형식과 생산 절차를 고려해보았을 때 이들 기록의 신뢰성도 인정할 수 있음을 살펴보았다. 다만, 역사학의 사료비판에서 말하는 1차 사료/2차 사료라는 기준은 좀더 개념화가 필요하며, 그 이후에 기록학의 개념과 유용한 조정이 이루어질 것으로 보인다. 조선전기 사람들에게 과거의 기억과 당대의 기록은 곧 미래를 전망하는 유력한 수단이었다. 과거의 역사를 통해서는 조선 건국 이래 향후 조선을 이끌어갈 정책과 이념을 창출하였으며, 당대 역사를 기록하고 관리했던 체계인 사관제도는 문한(文翰) 기구로써, 조선의 문치주의(文治主義)를 지탱하는 제도였다. 그 정착과정에서 나타났던 갈등에도 불구하고 정치권력의 상반된 역사해석조차 동시에 남기는 문화적 풍토, 즉 조선후기 수차례 실록의 수정에도 불구하고 먼저 편찬된 실록을 함께 남기는 '주묵사(朱墨史)'로 상징되는 기록문화를 창출하였다. 변전하는 현실 정치 세력의 이해조차 역사와 기록을 통하여 남기고, 뒷사람들에게 그 평가를 위임하였던 역사의식의 소산이었다.

약물 음독과 정신과 과거력의 연관성 (Association of Prescribed Drug intoxication and Neuropsychiatric history)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between patients with a neuropsychiatric history and features of their suicide attempt, in order to analyze the risk associated with psychiatrist prescribed drugs Methods: We retrospectively investigated cases of intentional overdose drug ingestion in patients greater than 14 years of age who visited OO emergency medical center between January 1, 2008 and July 31, 2010. We evaluated patient medical records to ascertain their age, sex, neuropsychiatric history, and components of ingested intoxicant. Information regarding any suicide reattempt was obtained after discharge through follow up telephone survey. SPSS version 13.0 was used for statistical analysis. Fisher's exact test was performed with p<0.05 considered statistically significant. Results: Ninety-six of 209 patients (46%) had a past history of psychological problems. Among those 96 patients with a history of psychological problems, 46(48%) used an overdose of the medicine prescribed by their psychologist in order to attempt suicide. However, for patients without a history of psychological problems, intoxication by neuropsychiatric drugs was insignificant. Neuropsychiatric patients required greater follow up care after discharge and exhibited significantly more suicide reattempts. Conclusion: This study revealed that patients sometimes use the medicine prescribed by their psychologist to attempt suicide. Therefore, an exhaustive plan to control the medicines prescribed to psychiatric patients should be established.

이상적인 국립자연사박물관 건립을 위한 정책 제언 연구 (A Policy Research for Establishing an Ideal National Museum of Natural History)

  • 본 연구는 우리나라에 있는 자연사박물관 전문 인력들에 대한 현황을 분석하여, 향후 건립될 국립자연사박물관에서 근무할 전문 인력들을 어떻게 양성해야 하는 지에 대한 제안을 하고자 한다. 지난 20여 년간 여러 학술단체와 전문가 그룹의 국립자연사박물관 건립을 위한 다각적인 노력은 지속적으로 이루어져왔다. 그 중에서도 한국지구과학회는 자연사박물관과 과학관에 관한 여러 논문 발표를 통해 활발한 논의와 연구를 수행해오고 있다. 향후 건립될 국립자연사 박물관은 숙련된 전문인력들을 필요로 하며, 한국지구과학회에서는 이와 관련된 맞춤형 전문과정을 설치하여 다양한 분야에 맞추어 양성해야 한다.

복식사 분야의 학예사 제도 현황과 교육방안 (The Curator System in the Field of the History of Costume and a Plan for Curator Education)

  • Although the curator system of South Korea officially started in 2001, it has not taken root yet. Because most active curators do not have a certificate, concerned scholars are making efforts to complement and establish the curator system. Although there are currently numerous museums and art galleries that own a number of costumes and textiles in Korea, the number of curators who majored in the history of costume is very low. Despite the growing importance and the increase in costume-related exhibition than any other fields, this shortage of qualified curators resulted in the lack of specialty for the management and exhibition of past costumes. To solve this problem, there needs to be more hire for curators, in proportion to the possession and exhibition of costumes, who major in the history of costume. The history of costume must also be part of the curator test and be required even for the internship. And there must be education for curators who currently deal with costumes without having majored in the study of costume, history of costume students who want to become a costume-related curator in the future, and the general public. The contents for education must include the knowledge of artifacts, theories to enhance the management capacity, and practice in the museum.

한국사 속의 자기(磁氣) 관련 기록에 대한 조사 연구 (Survey on Records about Magnetism in Written Korean History)

  • 자석에 대한 인간의 관심은 긴 역사를 가지고 있으며, 또한 자석을 바라보는 시선도 다양했다. 과거에는 과학자의 시선이 아니라 철학자의 눈으로 바라다 보기도 하였다. 이 글에서는 과거 우리나라에서 자석을 어떻게 인식해왔는가를 다루어보고자 한다. 자석과 관련된 내용을 시기적으로 분류해 보면 1) 자성(磁性)의 인식기 2) 극성(極性)의 인식기 3) 근대지식의 유입기로 나눌 수 있다. 한국사 전체에서 보면, 신라에서 자석을 생산하였다는 기록을 찾을 수 있었으며 고려시대 기록에서는 자석에 관한 자료를 찾을 수 없었다. 자석에 대한 관심은 조선시대에 들어와서 고조된 것으로 보인다. 그 중에서도 풍수 즉 양택과 음택의 입지와 관련하여 가장 많이 이용되었다. 조선시대에는 항해에 자석을 사용하였다는 기록도 확인된다. 그밖에 의외의 사용처로는 약재의 일부로 쓴 경우를 볼 수 있다.

조선시대(朝鮮時代) 꿈(몽(夢)) 인식에서 나타난 자연관(自然觀)과 과학성(科學性)의 성격 (View of Nature and Science in Perception of Dreams in the Chosun Dynasty)

  • Phenomena experienced by all individuals and cultural interpretation of such phenomena seem to be irrelevant to the change of time. The subject dream to be discussed in this study is one of them. Nevertheless, people's attitude of understanding dreams in the past is obviously different from the contemporary one, and the interpretation of dreams reveals the science of the corresponding age. Bishop Daveluy, a missionary to Chosun in the mid 19th century, observed Korean people's hardly understandable response to dreams. According to his explanation, Chosun people regarded what they saw in a dream as a fact. It might have been quite long that a dream is regarded as a sign of the future. However, how a dream can be a sign of the future is explained different according to the science of the corresponding age. Many records on dreams since the late Koryo Dynasty and the early Chosun Dynasty did not give satisfactory answers to this question. However, new interpretations of dreams were attempted occasionally in the process that the Sung Confucian view of nature in the Chosun Dynasty was being matured. One of such interpretations is that a dream is obviously a phenomenon of human cognition and there is a rule behind dreams. I t was believed that the rule is a flow of energy defined by reason penetrating through the past, the present and the future and, as a consequence, dreams are future oriented. The view that a dream is a phenomenon with a causal relation is observed more specifically in medicine. I t was understood basically as a pathological phenomenon but, at the same time, a substance in an organic relation with the human body. In addition, it was understood as the results of facts (physiological and pathological processes) experienced by the body in the past and the sign of diseases in the future. However, from the viewpoint of contemporary science based on empirical rationalism, such foreseeability is fundamentally unacceptable. In contemporary science, in which scientific analysis of phenomena has to be of the past tense, dreams exist as the representations of the past. What Bishop Daveluy saw in Korean people was a phenomenon observed when the pre modern met the modern as pre modern people's life and idea were viewed from a modern people's eye.
