  • In this paper, a navigation algorithm is proposed using RFID tags in indoor environments. Firstly, a stochastic sensor model of RFID is derived and the design factors including the maximum identifiable distance, the identification direction and the read success rate are obtained through experiments. The obstacle avoidance algorithm is developed with consideration of those factors for a variety of RFID antenna configurations and different indoor environments. The algorithm is tested by computer simulations and implemented on a mobile robot.

  • RFID technologies have attracted a lot of attention in recent years because of their cost/time-effectiveness in large-scale logistics, supply chain management (SCM) and other various potential applications. One of the most important issues of the RFID-based systems is how quickly tags can be identified. Tag collision arbitration plays a more critical role in determining the system performance especially for passive tag-based ones where tag collisions are dealt with rather than prevented. We present a novel tag collision arbitration protocol called Optimum Frame-Slotted Aloha (OFSA). The protocol has been designed to achieve time-optimal efficiency in tag identification through an analytic study of tag identification delay and tag number estimation. Results from our analysis and extensive simulations demonstrate that OFSA outperforms other collision arbitration protocols. Also, unlike most prior anti-collision protocols, it does not require any modification to the current standards and architectures facilitating the rollout of RFID systems.

Using radio-frequency data can be recognized automatically in the RFID system is vulnerable to personal information protection or security. And passive tags have a hardware problem is the limit for applying cryptographic. This paper presents an authentication protocol using AES and Nounce. After completing mutual authentication server to access and strengthen security vulnerability to the use of the Nounce, because safety in denial of service attacks.

  • A recent advance in RFID technology is one of the major technological drives in reducing cost in logistics, distribution and even in the manufacturing sector. However, currently the technology is practically accepted only in the area of logistics and inventory control. The characteristic of these application areas is that the technology is used in the controllable environment. In this paper, we discuss a case study of using active and passive RFID technologies to automatically gather process information in the mold factory. Active RFID tags are attached on the main parts of molds and their positions in the floor are tracked with the routers. We also discuss on the idea of using mobile device with RFID reader to inquire information for molds on the spot in the factory floor. The inquirable information includes 3D design data and basic mold data. The paper shows implementation results with hardware configuration for the testbed.

  • In the determination of suitable frame sizes associated with dynamic framed slotted Aloha used in radio frequency identification tag identification processes, the widely imposed constraint $L=2^Q$ often yields inappropriate values deviating far from the optimal values, while a straightforward use of the estimated optimal frame sizes causes frequent restarts of read procedures, both resulting in long identification delays. Taking a trade-off, in this paper, we propose a new method for determining effective frame sizes where the effective frame size changes in a multiple of a predetermined step size, namely ${\Delta}$. Through computer simulations, we show that the proposed scheme works fairly well in terms of identification delay.

  • In the realm of large-scale identification deployments, the EPCglobal Class-1 Generation-2 (Gen2) standard serves as a cornerstone, facilitating rapid processing of numerous passive RFID tags. The Q-Algorithm has garnered considerable attention for its potential to markedly enhance the efficiency of Gen2-based RFID systems with minimal adjustments. This paper introduces a groundbreaking iteration of the Q-Algorithm, termed Time-Efficient Q-Algorithm (SwiftQ), specifically designed to push the boundaries of time efficiency within Gen2-based RFID systems. Through exhaustive simulations, our study substantiates that SwiftQ outperforms existing algorithms by a significant margin, demonstrating exceptional expediency that positions it as a formidable contender in the landscape of large-scale identification environments. By prioritizing time efficiency, SwiftQ offers a promising solution to meet the escalating demands of contemporary Internet of Things applications, underscoring its potential to catalyze advancements in RFID technology for diverse industrial and logistical contexts.

  • This paper shows an UHF RFID metallic tags using a Cavity structure for a long reading range. The reading range of a general passive tag is limited because the EIRP of a reader system is limited as 36㏈m by ISO 18000-6. To extend the reading range, the tag antenna should have a high gain antenna structure. The designed tag antenna is recognized over 10m range with a Cavity structure. The directivity pattern and the performance of the tag with the Cavity structure is stable when it is attached to a metallic object. The designed tag antenna has two kinds as cavity thickness. The sizes of designed tag antennas are $176\;{\times}\;52\;{\times}\;10\;mm$ and $176\;{\times}\;61\;{\times}\;30mm$ They can be attached to a large metallic materials and heavy equipments. The measured reading ranges of the tags are about 11m and 15m when they are attached to a metallic object.
