  • This paper describes the architecture, the basic operation principle and detailed experimental results of digitally programmable high-voltage generators that can be used in monolithic low-power high-voltage bistable LCD drivers. Two different design approaches, depending on whether the application allows the use of external passive components or not, are analyzed.

  • Recently, much research has been done and many improvements have been developed for islanding protection of distributed generation(DG). Anti-islanding protection for DG must be act very quickly to prevent equipment damage at the time of disconnection and for the safety of maintenance and repair personnel. DG-based detection methods have included both passive and active types, and now research has shifted towards new anti-islanding detection methods that make up for the defects of the previous types. Because differences occur between the utility grid and the DG when connecting and disconnecting depending on the phase difference, voltage, current, relative capacity of electric power, and system operation characteristics, voltage phase angle is an important consideration. In this paper, we simulated islanded operation characteristics comparing phase difference of DG and the connected utility grid, and analyzed various parameters (real power, reactive power, RMS voltage, RMS current, power factor angle, and frequency) by varying the DG's voltage phase angle. Using this information, we propose a suitable DG voltage phase angle for enhanced passive islanding detection techniques.

  • In this paper, we designed an inter-operation architecture of 10G G-PON(Gigabit passive optical network) network and NGN(Next generation network) architecture. And, we proposed mechanism of dynamic GEM(G-PON encapsulation mode) Port-ID allocation. This is able to solve a problem of 10G G-PON inter-operation. The mechanism of dynamic GEM Port-ID allocation has OMCI(ONT management control and interface) mapping table for IP address and port number. That architecture is able to support per flow QoS(Quality of service) as well as QoS of NGN requirement. So that can improve the resource efficiency of QoS than the existing G-PON architecture.

  • The high-switching-frequency operation of power converters can achieve high power density through size reduction of passive components, such as capacitors, inductors, and transformers. However, a small-output capacitor that has small capacitance and low effective series resistance changes the small-signal model of the converter power stage. Such a capacitor can make the converter unstable by increasing the crossover frequency in the transfer function of the small-signal model. In this paper, the design and implementation of a high-frequency LLC resonant converter are presented to verify the power density enhancement achieved by decreasing the size of passive components. The effect of small output capacitance is analyzed for stability by using a proper small-signal model of the LLC resonant converter. Finally, proper design methods of a feedback compensator are proposed to obtain a sufficient phase margin in the Bode plot of the loop gain of the converter for stable operation at 500 kHz switching frequency. A theoretical approach using MATLAB, a simulation approach using PSIM, and experimental results are presented to show the validity of the proposed analysis and design methods with 100 and 500 kHz prototype converters.

  • This paper presents a concept of a pressure tube-type water-cooled reactor without the emergency core cooling system. It adopts an innovative fuel channel design using metallic fuel matrix to improve heat transfer from fuel to moderator at loss of coolant cooling. The heat produced in the fuel is cooled by the coolant system during normal operation, but by the passive moderator system at loss of coolant cooling including the loss-of-coolant accident(LOCA). Simple analysis shows that the fuel channel temperature can be maintained within the permissible range for both normal operation and a complete LOCA.

  • In this paper, operation characteristics of the Zero-voltage-Switching(ZVS) mode and Non-Zero-Voltage-Switching (NZVS) mode of the active clamp (ACL) forward converter are compared through the loss analysis. The losses of semiconductor devices, transformer and passive elements of the converter are analyzed and compared for each type of operation mode. In order to verify the validity of the analysis, we have built a 50W ACL forward converter and measured the losses of the converter. From the experiment it is known that the ACL forward converter shows nearly same loss distribution for both of operation modes

  • The Multipurpose BIPV System(MBIPVS) was evaluated as an effective passive system through analyzing the thermal performance and the efficiency of PV power generation in the previous papers. To achieve the performance better, the operation method should be determined by considering physical conditions in each occasion. Thus, we cheesed the reference operation methods in each season set by the overview of the meteorological data for last 6 years, In-choen, and compared them with the various alternatives that we had made up with for improving thermal performance. The results from adopting various alternatives on MBIPVS showed that the appropriate operational model would be effective to the energy savings ; we could reduce the total loads 1,051.0[kWh] in summer and 108.9[kWh] in winter.

  • This paper presents the VHDL implementation procedure of the passive RFID tag operating in Ultra High Frequency. The operation of the tag compatible with the EPCglobal Class1 Generation2(GEN2) protocol is verified by timing simulation after synthesis and implementation. Due to the reading range with relatively large distance, a passive tag needs digital processor which facilitates faster decoding, encoding and state transition for enhancement of an interrogation rate. In order to satisfy linking time, the pipe-line structure is used, which can minimize latency to serial input data stream. We also propose the sampling strategy to decode the Preamble, the Frame-sync and PIE symbols in reader commands. The simulation results with the fastest data rate and multi tags environment scenario show that the VHDL implemented tag performs faster operation than GEN2 proposed.

  • A parallel operation of Uninterruptible Power Supply(UPS) systems is used to increase power capacity of the system or to secure higher reliability at critical loads. In the conventional parallel operation, the load-sharing control to maintain the current balance is the most important, since the load-sharing is very sensitive to discord between components of each module, amplitude/phase difference, line impedance, output LC filter, and so on. To solve these problems various control algorithms are researching. However, these methods cannot apply to the different ratings of UPS. In the case, master and slave control algorithm for parallel operation is adequate. However, if the UPS ratings are different, the value of passive filters L, C is different, and it affects the sharing of current. This paper presents general problems of conventional parallel operation systems, and control strategy for parallel operation with different ratings. The validity of the proposed control strategy is investigated through simulation and experiment in the parallel operation system with two 3-phase UPS systems.

  • The electric railway cars are operated by high voltage supply through the catenary wire. Also, numerous electric equipments operated by electric signal are distributed in the electric railway cars. Such electric equipments are exposed to EMI/EMC problems, and there is the possibility that the magnetic field due to the catenary wire current takes effect on the electromagnetic field in the electric railway cars which move under the catenary wire. There is the possibility that the electromagnetic interference generates in view of the operation of many electric equipments in the electric railway cars. There is the possibility that the communication device faults generate, and that the hazards on the human beings generate. In this paper, we predict the magnetic field around the catenary wire, and obtain the exact magnetic field distribution by comparing the analytic results and the numerical results. Finally, we confirmed the possibility of the passive loop mitigation by comparing the analytic results and the numerical results through the passive loop mitigation technique.
