Integrated Optimal Design of Hybrid Structural Control System using Multi-Stage Goal Programming Technique (다단계 목표계획법을 이용한 복합구조제어시스템의 통합최적설계)

  • An optimal design method for hybrid structural control system of building structures subject to earthquake excitation is presented in this paper. Designing a hybrid structural control system may be defined as a process that optimizes the capacities and configuration of passive and active control systems as well as structural members. The optimal design proceeds by formulating the optimization problem via a multi-stage goal programming technique and, then, by finding reasonable solution to the optimization problem by means of a goal-updating genetic algorithm. In the multi-stage goal programming, design targets(or goals) are at first selected too correspond too several stages and the objective function is th n defined as the sum of the normalized distances between these design goals and each of the physical values, that is, the inter-story drifts and the capacities of the control system. Finally, the goal-updating genetic algorithm searches for optimal solutions satisfying each stage of design goals and, if a solution exists, the levels of design goals are consecutively updated to approach the global optimal solution closest too the higher level of desired goals. The process of the integrated optimization design is illustrated by a numerical simulation of a nine-story building structure subject to earthquake excitation. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by comparing the optimally designed results with those of a hybrid structural control system where structural members, passive and active control systems are uniformly distributed.

  • As of today-half a century has passed after 1945, the liberation from Japanese imperialism-it's significant to introspect our culture. On the one hand our culture has succeeded due to the peculiar history, but on the other hand it hasn't. So to speak, it has gained in Quantity but lost in Quality. There are keen, international competition and exchange in the modern culture. So the Qualitive success of modern design depends on if it had an original character or not. According to Korean rapid industrialization, technological extence, and economic growth, the export has increased greatly, but package design hasn't been match for them. Korean expoters have been meeting with cutthroat competition in world market. Under these circumstances it's very important that we have a real understand and interest in our culture, we strengthen the competitive power of home products with good package design. This is our age of not home market but world market. We live in an age when design wins, so that we have to develop the good design native to Korea. Many designers have proposed their opinions with the characteristic designs, but it has been only a fragmentary and passive method. We must seek for the new method more positively. The effective and proper method resolves itself into the following four points. First, to understand Korean history and culture. Second, to have the exact grip of this economic situation. Third, to promote the national emotion. Fourth, in conclusion, to accord the package design with them. We cannot put off this task to overcome the cultural subordination, to place Korea on a firm cultural basis in the world, and to contribute to the cultural exchange of package design. Simultaneous Optimum Design of Hybrid Structural Control System (복합구조제어시스템의 동시최적설계)

  • In this paper, an integrated optimum design method for hybrid structural control system is studied. Not only the distribution and the capacity of passive devices but also those of active devices, and the controllers are treated as design variables in the proposed approach. Multi-objective optimization problem is formulated by using the preference function, which is newly defined in this study. Genetic algorithm is adopted as a numerical searching technique in order to simultaneously find the optimum solutions. The validity of the proposed method is verified through the example designs and the numerical simulations of an earthquake excited multi-degrees-of-freedom structure.

  • In this paper, the optimal design of a spring-type gravity compensation system for an articulated robot is presented. Sequential quadratic programming (SQP) is adopted to resolve various nonlinear constraints in spring design such as stress, buckling, and fatigue constraints, and to reduce computation time. In addition, continuous relaxation method is used to explain the integer-valued design variables. The simulation results show that the gravity compensation system designed by proposed method improves the performance effectively without additional weight gain in the main workspace.

A Study on the Gradual Differentiation in Parametric Design (패러매트릭 디자인에서의 점진적 조형특성 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the concept of 'Gradual Differentiation' in parametric design in terms of pure model logic and thus describe the distinctive feature from the previous design method. To meet the purpose, it explores external cases like gradual factor identified in natural phenomenon and artworks and define the inherent model principles into "Self-similarity', "Correlation', and 'Temporality' by examining these features in terms of algorithm. Meanwhile, it identified the principle of gradual model representation in parametric design within a single system called 'Attractor System' by applying these three concepts into specific methods of parametric design, and by interpreting the logical structure through the association among 'Attractor', 'Field', and 'Differentiation'. The creative utilization of parameter shows that gradual model process in parametric design does not mean a passive "conversion process" merely replacing natural parameter with algorithm; rather, it refers to an active "generating process" creating new meanings and value. By continuing this process of conceptual understanding and insight, creative perspective and practical ability to interpret parameter can be improved.

  • The elderly are more likely to experience passive emotions such as loneliness, anxiety, and depression due to decreased physiological function and low participation in social activities. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to seek how to apply biophilic design from a healing perspective considering mental health to the residential space for the elderly. Biophilic design has a positive effect on the psychological stability of human being and the creation of a human-centered environment that provides various benefits to people's health through the combination with natural elements. The method of this study is as follows. First, survey tools are developed by reviewing literature related to biophilic design and planning factors in housing. Second, we conduct the survey around mental health status and preference of applying biophilic design patterns to the elderly and pre-elderly. Third, we propose a plan to apply biophilic design patterns in houses based on the analyzed results. The biophilic design pattern covered in this study is meaningful in that it seeks clues, the housing plan to create healing environment for the elderly with the nature friendly view.

Simultaneous Optimization of Hybrid Mid-Story Isolation System and Building Structure (하이브리드 중간층 지진 격리 시스템과 빌딩 구조물의 동시 최적화)

  • A hybrid mid-story seismic isolation system with a smart damper has been proposed to mitigate seismic responses of tall buildings. Based on previous research, a hybrid mid-story seismic isolation system can provide effective control performance for reduction of seismic responses of tall buildings. Structural design of the hybrid mid-story seismic isolation system is generally performed after completion of structural design of a building structure. This design concept is called as an iterative design which is a general design process for structures and control devices. In the iterative design process, optimal design solution for the structure and control system is changed at each design stage. To solve this problem, the integrated optimal design method for the hybrid mid-story seismic isolation system and building structure was proposed in this study. An existing building with mid-story isolation system, i.e. Shiodome Sumitomo Building, was selected as an example structure for more realistic study. The hybrid mid-story isolation system in this study was composed of MR (magnetorheological) dampers. The stiffnessess and damping coefficients of the example building, maximum capacity of MR damper, and stiffness of isolation bearing were simultaneously optimized. Multi-objective genetic optimization method was employed for the simultaneous optimization of the example structure and the mid-story seismic isolation system. The optimization results show that the simultaneous optimization method can provide better control performance than the passive mid-story isolation system with reduction of structural materials.

  • Modular toys for creative education require functional blocks to create various types of movements. An active drive module and a lot of passive connection blocks are needed to express motion with combination. In this paper, we propose the design of modular toys to produce various creative movements and controller structure working with them. In order to facilitate the connection between the designed modules, a connection method and a suitable mechanism are suggested. We also dealt with the design of various types of sensor modules that can work in conjunction with modular toys. Using these toys, typical standard application form that can be imitated educationally is suggested and showed the usefulness of the modular toy by actually applying it with designed modules and components. The proposed method is applied to actual educational toys, and the operation is effectively performed by recording operation and playing repetitive operation.

The Effects of Fashion Involvement on Self-Satisfaction by Conspicuous Consumption Tendency Groups (과시소비성향집단별 패션관여가 자기만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study classifies conspicuous consumption groups and the difference of fashion involvement and selfsatisfaction by each group. It also examined the effect of fashion involvement on self-satisfaction by each group. A questionnaire method was used for the study method and the subjects of the study were females in their 20s-50s. A total of 580 sets of questionnaires were distributed and 554 sets were used for the final analysis. Data were analyzed by factor analysis, t-test, ANOVA, factor analysis, cluster analysis, Cronbach's alpha coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows: First, this study classified 4 groups of active conspicuous consumption, the group of passive conspicuous consumption, the group of syntonic conspicuous consumption and the group pursuing individuality & frugal consumption. Second, as a result of the examination of the impact of fashion involvement for each group with a propensity for conspicuous consumption on their self-satisfaction, it was found that the sex appeal of fashion involvement had no significant impact on the economic satisfaction in the group of active conspicuous consumption, and had no significant impact on all elements of self-satisfaction in the group of passive conspicuous consumption. It was also found that social symbolism had a negative impact on satisfaction with looks in the group of syntonic conspicuous consumption, and the physical complementation and directions of looks had a negative impact on satisfaction with living, the social symbolism on satisfaction with looks and the syntone on satisfaction with looks in the group of pursuing individuality & frugal consumption.

A Study on the Parameters of Design for Warpage reduction of Passive components Embedded Substrate for PoP (PoP용 패시브 소자 임베디드 기판의 warpage 감소를 위한 파라메타 설계에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, numerical analysis by finite element method and parameter design by the Taguchi method were used to reduce warpage of a two passive components embedded double side substrate for PoP(Package on Package). The effect of thickness of circuit layers (L1, L2) and thickness of solder resist (SR_top, SR_BTM) were analyzed with 4 variations and 3 levels(minimum, average and maximum thickness) to find optimized thickness conditions. Also, paste effect of solder resist on unit area of top surface was analyzed. Finally, experiments was carried out to prove numerical analysis and the Taguchi method. Based on the numerical and experimental results, it was known that circuit layer in ball side of substrate was the most severe determining deviation for reducing warpage. Buried circuit layer in chip side, solder resist and were insignificant effects on warpage relatively. However, warpage decreased as circuit layer in ball side thickness increased but effect of solder resist and circuit layer in chip side thickness were conversely.
