  • In this research, we investigate an influence of a reader antenna location in Passive UHF RFID system based Object localization. When the localization system uses stationary RFID reader system, the performances of the system are significantly varied depending on the deployed antenna conditions due to its external environment such as reflection by the ground and obstacles. In this research we deeply study the RF conditions and differentiation with various antenna location. According to the empirical results, the localization system shows the best performance, where the reader antenna locates 1.5m from the target area of interest.

  • In this paper, we propose a general idea about an RFID system which provides lighted weight algorithm. We discuss how RFID could be applied for this kind of system, especially, compact protocol. We evaluate a few protocols that have been suggested for use in passive RFID tagged systems. We can reduce security computation without losing security features by message integration and pre-computation in this paper. And the proposed protocol can be used in low-cost RFID systems that require a small computational load for both the back-end database and the tags.

  • Mobile RFID system, that consists of the existing RFID reader mounted on the mobile devices such as smartphones, is able to provide the users a variety of services and convenience. Although the users can get the information about a certain product anytime anywhere, there is high probability that their privacy may be violated because their belongings with RFID tags can be scanned by other mobile readers at any time. Several RFID authentication schemes have been proposed to deal with these privacy issues. However, since the existing solutions require heavy computation on the tag side, most of them is not applicable to the general low-cost passive tags which do not have any processing unit. In this paper, we propose the efficient authentication scheme for mobile RFID system applicable to the passive tags as well as the active ones by the best use of computing capability of mobile devices. The proposed scheme satisfies the import security issues such as tag protection, untraceability, anti-traffic analysis. We also implement the proposed scheme on top of real smartphone for feasibility and show the experimental results from it.

  • The passive UHF RFID tags for item-level tagging are now explosively used in the supply chain and retail applications as they have several advantages, the two most relevant are cost and a longer read range. However, the signal interference problem between RFID tags and smart devices in real world is expected according to the smart-phone and tablet market growth together. The performance of RFID tags can be significantly less. The popular examples are the read-success rates and read range reduction. Especially, KT Corp. recently emphasized the serious signal interference at 900 MHz of LTE and old RFID frequencies through their public demonstration. By popular demands, this paper suggests the interference tolerance measurement method between the passive UHF RFID tag and the transmitted signal from a smart device. In addition, we selected three passive UHF RFID tags(Inlay) available on the market and quantitatively evaluated read range reduction results by interference signals using the PCR(Performance Change Rates) index. As a result, the LTE system is about three times as effective as the WCDMA system in terms of interference effects, and the read range performance of two RFID tags about 60 % drop.

  • RFID is a very important interface technology in a ubiquitous computing that is called new computing paradigms. that is, we can handle the data updating, recognizing and processing easily using a integrated the network and RFID technology in a ubiquitous computing. Therefore, we propose a business adminstration system that can able to change the passive management structure to active management structure in a u-business administration using RFID technology of ubiquitous computing. Proposed system has management server function that handle recording and management of information by business administration to improve structure of legacy passive management system actively, so that supply effect of reduce manpower and cost for the manager, and offer easy interface to user at the same time.

  • SAW (Surface Acoustic Waves) ID (identification) tags have been designed and implemented for RFID (Radio frequency IDentification) systems. With SAW ID tag of pulse position encoding method, the data capacity increased 3 times compared with SAW ID tag of amplitude on/off method. Two different kinds of SAW ID tag receiver systems, heterodyne and homodyne receiver systems, were made. The direct conversion receiver showed better isolation property, 10 dB improvement than the heterodyne receiver to increase wireless interrogation distance.

  • Both EPCglobal Generation-2 (Gen2) for passive RFID systems and Intelleflex for semi-passive RFID systems use probabilistic slotted ALOHA with Q algorithm, which is a kind of dynamic framed slotted ALOHA (DFSA), as the tag anti-collision algorithm. A better tag anti-collision algorithm can reduce collisions so as to increase the efficiency of tag identification. In this paper, we introduce and analyze the estimation methods of the number of slots and tags for DFSA. To increase the efficiency of tag identification, we propose two new tag anti-collision algorithms, which are Chebyshev's inequality (CHI) algorithm and hybrid Q algorithm, and compare them with the conventional Q algorithm and adaptive adjustable framed Q (AAFQ) algorithm, which is mentioned in Part I. The simulation results show that AAFQ performs the best in Gen2 scenario. However, in Intelleflex scenario the proposed hybrid Q algorithm is the best. That is, hybrid Q provides the minimum identification time, shows the more consistent collision ratio, and maximizes throughput and system efficiency in Intelleflex scenario.

  • A passive RFID tag which received attention as a future technology for automatic and quick identification faces some difficulties about security problems such as tag authentication, reader authentication, data protection, and untraceability in addition to cost and reliable identification. A representative passive RFID technology is the ISO/IEC 18000-6 Type C which is an international standard for 900 MHz UHF-band. This standard has some difficulties in applying to the security services such as originality verification, tag's internal information protection, and untraceability, because it does not provide high-level security solution. In this paper, we summarize security requirements of ISO/IEC ITC 1/SC 31 international standardization group, propose security protocols suitable for the UHF-band passive RFID system using a crypto engine, and analyze its security strength. In addition, we verify that it is possible to implement a tag conforming with the proposed security protocols by presenting concrete command/response pairs and cryptographic method.

  • The isolation between transmitter and receiver has been a critical problem in a pulse-modulated RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) system where transmitter and receiver use the identical frequency. A method using a switch, a mixer, a BPF (band-pass filter), and an additional oscillator in the transmitter is proposed to improve the isolation between transmitter and receiver in an RFID system. The Proposed system up-converts the outgoing wave from a frequency different from the received signal and improves the isolation. The proposed method provided additional 20 dB improvement on the isolation.
