Traffic Anomaly Detection for Campus Networks using Fisher Linear Discriminant (Fisher 선형 분류법을 이용한 비정상 트래픽 탐지)

  • Traffic anomaly detection is one of important technology that should be considered in network security and administration. In this paper, we propose an abnormal traffic detection mechanism that includes traffic monitoring and traffic analysis. We develop analytical passive monitoring system called WISE-Mon which can inspect traffic behavior. We establish a criterion by analyzing the characteristics of a traffic training set. To detect abnormal traffic, we derive a hyperplane by using Fisher linear discriminant and chi-square distribution as well as the analyzed characteristics of traffic. Our mechanism can support reliable results for traffic anomaly detection and is compatible to real-time detection. In addition, since the trend of traffic can be changed as time passes, the hyperplane has to be updated periodically to reflect the changes. Accordingly, we consider the self-learning algorithm which reflects the trend of the traffic and so enables to increase the pliability of detection probability. Numerical results are presented to validate the accuracy of proposed mechanism. It shows that the proposed mechanism is reliable and relevant for traffic anomaly detection.

  • It has become more difficult to correspond a cyber attack quickly as patterns of attack become various and complex. However, current security mechanism just have passive defense functionalities. In this paper, we propose new network security mechanism to respond various cyber attacks rapidly and to chase and isolate the attackers through cooperation between security zones. The proposed mechanism makes it possible to deal effectively with cyber attacks such as IP spoofing, by using active packet technology including a mobile code on active network. Also, it is designed to hove more active correspondent than that of existing mechanisms. We implemented these mechanisms in Linux routers and experimented on a testbed to verify realization possibility of attacker response framework using mobile code. The experimentation results are analyzed.

  • Kiosks are widely used in drive-thru systems in parking lots or on the highway to provide various services to drivers. However, the driver must stop at an exact location to access the kiosk, since its panel is fixed. In order to improve the kiosk accessibility, in this study we developed a manipulator that can adjust the position of the kiosk panel. The number of active joints was minimized to lower the cost, whereas a parallelogram mechanism and passive joints were adopted to increase its convenience for the users. Furthermore, a safety mechanism using springs and a cam was designed to ensure the safety of the user in the case of an emergency. The performance of the position controller and the safety mechanism were verified through various tests. In addition, the proposed collision reaction strategy improved the safety performance of the kiosk system.

Crassirhizomae rhizoma Exhibits Anti-Allergic Activity through Inhibition of Syk Kinase in Mast Cells (Syk kinase 억제를 통한 관중의 항앨러지 효과)

  • This study aimed to investigate the anti-allergic activity and the mechanism of action of Crassirhizomae rhizoma (CR). The extract of CR exhibited potent inhibitory activity in mast cells; its $IC_{50}$ values were $31.2{\pm}1.5{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ for rat basophile leukemia (RBL)-2H3 mast cells and $51.5{\pm}2.1{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ for bone marrow-derived mast cells by antigen stimulation. It also suppressed the expression of TNF-${\alpha}$ and IL-4 mRNAs in RBL-2H3 cells. In an in-vivo animal allergy model, it inhibited a local allergic reaction, passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA), in a dose-dependent manner. With regard to the mechanism of action, CR inhibited the activating phosphorylation of Syk kinase, a key signaling protein for the activation of mast cells. Taken together, these results strongly suggested that the anti-allergic activity of CR is mediated through the inhibition of histamine release and allergic cytokine production by the inhibition of Syk in mast cells.

  • Fault detection for dynamic loading conditions of rotational machineries was considered from the contactless, non-destructive infrared thermographic method, rather than the traditional diagnosis method. In this paper, by applying a rotating deep-grooved ball bearing, passive thermographic experiment was performed as an alternative way proceeding the traditional fault monitoring. In addition, the thermographic experiments were compared with the vibration spectrum analysis to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed method. Based on the results, it was concluded the temperature characteristics of the ball bearing under dynamic loading conditions were analyzed thoroughly.

  • This paper reports on the development of the gripping system for automation of phone-camera module assembling. If manual assembling is shifted by automation, it will increase the fabrication speed and reduce the defective rate. In the gripping mechanism design, we needs self-adjustable passive mechanism that minimize the number of the parts. The self-adjusting system compensates the positioning errors that have been made in translations. And also we need gripper system that can be modules of parts. That makes it easy to change or repair the parts. The forces put on the objects is another considerable in the system. It must not cause dropping, breakage, scratch, and large deformation. So final target of this reaseach is how to develop the system that is speedy, small, simple, and safe

  • This paper presents a basic ECU(Electronic Control Unit) hardware development procedure for the functional safety of in-vehicle network systems. We consider complete hardware redundancy as a safety mechanism for in-vehicle communication network under the assumption of the wired network failure such as disconnection of a CAN bus. An ESC (Electronic Stability Control) system is selected as an item and the required ASIL(Automotive Safety Integrity Level) for this item is assigned by performing the HARA(Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment). The basic hardware architecture of the ESC system is designed with a microcontroller, passive components, and communication transceivers. The required ASIL for ESC system is shown to be satisfied with the designed safety mechanism by calculation of hardware architecture metrics such as the SPFM(Single Point Fault Metric) and the LFM(Latent Fault Metric).

Development of a Barrier Embedded Chaotic Micromixer (배리어가 포함된 카오스 마이크로 믹서의 개발)

  • It is of great interest to enhance mixing performance in a microchannel in which the flow is usually characterized as a low Reynolds number (Re) so that good mixing is quite difficult to be achieved in this laminar flow regime. In this regard, we present a new chaotic passive micromixer, named Barrier Embedded Micromixer (BEM), of which the mixing mechanism is based on chaotic flows. In BEM, chaotic flow is induced by periodic perturbation of the velocity field due to periodically inserted barriers along the channel wall while a helical type of flow is obtained by slanted grooves on the bottom surface of the channel in the pressure driven flow. To experimentally compare the mixing performance, a T-microchannel and a microchannel with only slanted grooves were also fabricated. All microchannels were made of PDMS (Polydimethylsiloxane) from SU-8 masters that were fabricated by conventional photolithography. Mixing performance was experimentally characterized with respect to an average mixing intensity by means of color change of phenolphthalein as pH indicator. It was found that mixing efficiency decreases as Re increases for all three micromixers. Experimental results obviously indicate that BEM has better mixing performance than the other two. Chaotic mixing mechanism, suggested in this study, can be easily applied to integrated microfluidic systems , such as Micro-Total-Analysis-System, Lab-on-a-chip and so on.

A Hybrid Approach to Arbitrate Tag Collisions in RFID systems (RFID 시스템에서 태그 충돌 중재를 위한 하이브리드 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a new hybrid approach based on query tree protocol to arbitrate tag collisions in RFID systems. The hybrid query tree protocol that combines a tree based query protocol with a slotted backoff mechanism. The proposed protocol decreases the average identification delay by reducing collisions and idle time. To reduce collisions, we use a 4-ary query tree instead of a binary query tree. To reduce idle time, we introduce a slotted backoff mechanism to reduce the number of unnecessary Query commands. Simulation and numerical analysis reveal that the proposed protocol achieves lower identification delay than existing tag collision arbitration protocols.

Design of Mobility System for Ground Model of Planetary Exploration Rover

  • In recent years, a number of missions have been planned and conducted worldwide on the planets such as Mars, which involves the unmanned robotic exploration with the use of rover. The rover is an important system for unmanned planetary exploration, performing the locomotion and sample collection and analysis at the exploration target of the planetary surface designated by the operator. This study investigates the development of mobility system for the rover ground model necessary to the planetary surface exploration for the benefit of future planetary exploration mission in Korea. First, the requirements for the rover mobility system are summarized and a new mechanism is proposed for a stable performance on rough terrain which consists of the passive suspension system with 8 wheeled double 4-bar linkage (DFBL), followed by the performance evaluation for the mechanism of the mobility system based on the shape design and simulation. The proposed mobility system DFBL was compared with the Rocker-Bogie suspension system of US space agency National Aeronautics and Space Administration and 8 wheeled mobility system CRAB8 developed in Switzerland, using the simulation to demonstrate the superiority with respect to the stability of locomotion. On the basis of the simulation results, a general system configuration was proposed and designed for the rover manufacture.
