  • The recent Bistable Nematic ($BiNem^{(R)}$) LCD technology presents long term bistability, high level passive matrix multiplexing, gray levels capabilities and high optical quality. The $BiNem^{(R)}$ device, based on anchoring breaking, needs specific low anchoring strength materials - alignment layers and liquid crystal mixtures. We present here our approach to develop nematic mixtures with wide enough temperature range and low zenithal anchoring energy.

  • Hyundai LCD Inc. and LUXELL Technologies Inc. have jointly developed a 1.5" passive matrix full color OLED display ($132{\times}RGB{\times}96$, 111ppi) with characteristics of enhanced contrast ratio using black layer technology. This prototype ECR OLED was fabricated with the structure of ITO/HIL/HTL/RGB EML/HBL/ETL/LiF/Black Layer/Cathode and showed significant improvement of contrast ratio comparing with that of non-filtered OLED as well as compatible with circular polarizer OLED

  • LMI(Linear Matrix Inequalities) technique is implemented to control hybrid bio system with electric element Biological materials such as muscle and tissue are modeled as electrically passive element in the system. State feedback controller for the hybrid system is designed with constrained control input. The hybrid bio electrical system is characterized in terms of the time and frequency.

  • This paper presents a novel low power driving circuit for passive matrix organic lighting emitting diodes (OLED) displays. The proposed driving method for a low power OLED driving circuit which reduce large parasitic capacitance in OLED panel only use current driving method, instead of mixed mode driving method which uses voltage pre-charge technique. The driving circuit is implemented to one chip using 0.35${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS process with 18V high voltage devices and it is applicable to 96(R.G.B)X64, 65K color OLED displays for mobile phone application. The maximum switching power dissipation of driving power dissipation is 5.7mW and it is 4% of that of the conventional driving circuit.

  • In this paper, development of an omni-directional mobile robot with rocker-bogie link structure is addressed. The overall mobile robot system consists of the robot mechanism with embedded control architecture, wireless communication with host graphic monitoring system, and the joy stick tole-controller. In the cluttered environment with various sizes of obstacles, the omni-directionality and the traversality are required for a mobile robot, so that the robot call go around or climb over the obstacles according to the size. The mobile robot mechanism developed in this paper has both of the omni-directionality and the traversality by 4 steerable driving wheels and the 2 additional passive omni-directional wheels linked with the rocker-bogie structure. The kinematic modeling for the mobile robot is described based on the well-known Sheth-Uicker convention and the instantaneous coordinate system.

  • We presented the method to obtain four speckle patterns with relative phase shift of ${\pi}/2$ by passive devices such as wave plate and polarizer, and calculate the phase at each point of the speckle pattern in shearography using Wollaston prism. And, we analyzed the phase error caused by wave plates used in the proposed method by Jones matrix.

  • The antiferroelectric liquid crystal display (AFLCD) is unique display that can show the perfect moving image using the passive matrix driving scheme. We optimized the driving waveform and introduced the dual driving method. Also, by improving this driving method and using line inversion method, we realized AFLC display with high image quality, which has 160(RGB)${\times}$240, 32768colors, crosstalk free and flicker free. The contrast ratio is greater than 60:1, and the brightness is above 200cd/$m^2$.

  • Reflective paper-like display (PLD) using two types of particles having different electric polarity has been developed. A positive-charged particle has $TiO_2$, polymer and charge control agent (CCA), while a negative-charged particle consists of carbon black, polymer and CCA. We achieved fast response time (${\sim}0.2$ msec) and passive matrix driving addressing. These methods can easily be adapted to complete a large area display and flexible display.

  • The high mobilitie sallow larger current to be reached under operation in the space charge limited conduction region, hence facilitate access to higher luminance as required for passive matrix panel. In this work, we have investigated the molecular alignment control effect of organic electroluminescent devices. we aligned the p-sexiphenyl(6p) using a simple rubbing treatment. We studied the anisotropic optical properties and electrical characteristics.
