  • In the treatment of mandibular condyle fracture, conservative treatment using closed reduction or surgical treatment using open reduction can be used. Management of mandibular condylar fractures remains a source of ongoing controversy in oral and maxillofacial trauma. For each type of condylar fracture, the treatment method must be chosen taking into consideration the presence of teeth, fracture height, patient'sadaptation, patient's masticatory system, disturbance of occlusal function, and deviation of the mandible. In the past, closed reduction with concomitant active physical therapy conducted after intermaxillary fixation during the recovery period had been mainly used, but in recent years, open treatment of condylar fractures with rigid internal fixation has become more common. The objective of this review was to evaluate the main variables that determine the choice of an open or closed method for treatment of condylar fractures, identifying their indications, advantages, and disadvantages, and to appraise the current evidence regarding the effectiveness of interventions that are used in the management of fractures of the mandibular condyle.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the experiences of acute care hospital nurses' on spiritual care with focus group interviews. Methods: Data were collected from 24 nurses recruited from one acute-care hospital in a southern province of Korea. Six focus groups were assembled considering age and religion. All interviews were recorded and transcribed. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results: Five categories with 14 sub-categories emerged: 1) ambiguous concept: confusing terms, an additional job; 2) assessment of spiritual care needs: looking for spiritual care needs, not recognizing spiritual care needs; 3) spiritual care practices: active spiritual care, passive spiritual care ; 4) outcomes of spiritual care: comfort of the recipient, comfort of the provider; and 5) barriers to spiritual care: fear of criticism from others, lack of education, lack of time, space constraints, and absence of a recording system. Conclusion: Participants perceived spiritual care as an uncertain concept. Some participants recognized it as a form of nursing care, and others did not. They practiced spiritual care in acute-care settings according to their personal perceptions of spiritual care. Therefore, in order to perform spiritual nursing in acute-care hospitals, it is a priority for nurses to recognize the concept of spiritual nursing accurately. It is also necessary to prepare a hospital environment suitable for the provision of spiritual care.

  • Failure detection in a cross-ply laminated composite beam under tensile loading were performed using a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor. A Passive Mach-Zehnder interferometric demodulator was proposed to enhance sensitivity and bandwidth. The proposed FBG sensor system without active device such as a phase modulator is very simple in configuration, easy to implement and enables the measurement of high-frequency vibration with low strain amplitude such as impact or failure signal. Failure signals detected by a FBG sensor had offset value corresponding to the strain shift with vibration at a maximum frequency of several hundreds of kilohertz. at the instant of transverse crack propagation in the 90 degree layer of composite beam.

  • We propose a novel post-processing algorithm and its very-large-scale integration architecture that simultaneously uses the passive and active stereo vision information to improve the reliability of the three-dimensional disparity in a hybrid stereo vision system. The proposed architecture consists of four steps - left-right consistency checking, semi-2D hole filling, a tiny adaptive variance checking, and a 2D weighted median filter. The experimental results show that the error rate of the proposed algorithm (5.77%) is less than that of a raw disparity (10.12%) for a real-world camera image having a $1,280{\times}720$ resolution and maximum disparity of 256. Moreover, for the famous Middlebury stereo image sets, the proposed algorithm's error rate (8.30%) is also less than that of the raw disparity (13.7%). The proposed architecture is implemented on a single commercial field-programmable gate array using only 13.01% of slice resources, which achieves a rate of 60 fps for $1,280{\times}720$ stereo images with a disparity range of 256.

  • Surface soil moisture, which governs the partitioning of precipitation into infiltration and runoff, plays an important role in the hydrological cycle. The assimilation of satellite soil moisture retrievals into a land surface model or hydrological model has been shown to improve the predictive skill of hydrological variables. This study aims to improve streamflow prediction with Weather Research and Forecasting model-Hydrological modeling system (WRF-Hydro) by assimilating Soil Moisture Active and Passive (SMAP) data at 3 km and analyze its impacts on hydrological components. We applied Cumulative Distribution Function (CDF) technique to remove the bias of SMAP data and assimilate SMAP data (April to July 2015-2019) into WRF-Hydro by using an Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF) with a total 12 ensembles. Daily inflow and soil moisture estimates of major dams (Soyanggang, Chungju, Sumjin dam) of South Korea were evaluated. We investigated how hydrologic variables such as runoff, evaporation and soil moisture were better simulated with the data assimilation than without the data assimilation. The result shows that the correlation coefficient of topsoil moisture can be improved, however a change of dam inflow was not outstanding. It may attribute to the fact that soil moisture memory and the respective memory of runoff play on different time scales. These findings demonstrate that the assimilation of satellite soil moisture retrievals can improve the predictive skill of hydrological variables for a better understanding of the water cycle.

  • Radiation work always carries the risk of radiation exposure, so regulatory agencies manage it through licensing when high exposure is expected. However, due to passive management methods using TLD, etc., there are cases where risk management is done after an incident occurs or the incident is covered up. In this study, we developed a system to manage the location of radiation work and the risk of workers in real time through a safety management platform and a location-based personal dosimeter. The safety platform server receives data from the developed personal dosimeter in real time and manages risks in three steps for each worker using location and dose rate, and can predict risks and generate alarms in real time. The personal dosimeter transmits the location and dose rate of the worker in real time using GPS and LTE communication. The developed safety management platform and personal dosimeter were verified through a field test to receive real-time data of the location and dose rate data of the worker, and the risk management function according to the individual dose rate was verified.

  • Since the morden targets are of high speed and getting quiet in both active and passive mode, the necessities of developing advanced SONAR system capable of performing target motion analysis (TMA) and target classification are evident. In order to develop such a system, the scattering mechanism of complex bodies needs to be, some extent, fully understood and modeled. In this paper, MOving Spread Target(MOST) signal simulation model is presented and discussed. The model is based on the highlight distribution method, and simulates pulse elongation of spread target, doppler effect due to kinematics of the target as well as SONAR platform, and distribution target strength of each highlight point (HL) with directivity. The model can be used in developing and evaluating advanced SONAR system through system simulation, and can also be used in the development of target state estimation algorithm.

  • This study compared the macro and micro electrochemical characteristics at the local area of welding metal on dissimilar welding parts for type 304 stainless steel (SS) and type 316L SS. The materials are used for double wall gas pipe of duel fuel engine for a ship. The various potentiodynamic experiments were performed several times in 10% ${H_2C_2O_2}{\cdot}{H_2O}$ solution using macro and micro methods, respectively. The micro electrochemical experiments conducted to resolve at local area on cross-section of dissimilar welding materials by micro-droplet cell device. The micro-droplet cell techniques can be used almost electrochemical experiments to resolve corrosion characteristics of the limited electrode area of the metallic surface between wetted spot of working electrode and tip of sharpened capillary tube. The results of macro electrochemical experiments show that resistance of active dissolution reaction at welding zone was high due to low current density by formation of passivation protection film at passive region. According to the micro electrochemical experiment, the corrosion current density of welding zone and bond zone were relatively high.
