Structural design has an imperative role in deciding the failure possibility of a Reinforced Concrete (RC) structure. Recent research works achieved the goal of predicting the structural failure of the RC structure with the assistance of machine learning techniques. Previously, the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) has been trained supported by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to classify RC structures with reasonable accuracy. Though, keeping in mind the sensitivity in predicting the structural failure, more accurate models are still absent in the context of Machine Learning. Since the efficiency of multi-objective optimization over single objective optimization techniques is well established. Thus, the motivation of the current work is to employ a Multi-objective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA) to train the Neural Network (NN) based model. In the present work, the NN has been trained with MOGA to minimize the Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) and Maximum Error (ME) toward optimizing the weight vector of the NN. The model has been tested by using a dataset consisting of 150 RC structure buildings. The proposed NN-MOGA based model has been compared with Multi-layer perceptron-feed-forward network (MLP-FFN) and NN-PSO based models in terms of several performance metrics. Experimental results suggested that the NN-MOGA has outperformed other existing well known classifiers with a reasonable improvement over them. Meanwhile, the proposed NN-MOGA achieved the superior accuracy of 93.33% and F-measure of 94.44%, which is superior to the other classifiers in the present study.

In this study, we propose a space search algorithm (SSA) and then introduce a hybrid optimization of fuzzy inference systems based on SSA and information granulation (IG). In comparison with "conventional" evolutionary algorithms (such as PSO), SSA leads no.t only to better search performance to find global optimization but is also more computationally effective when dealing with the optimization of the fuzzy models. In the hybrid optimization of fuzzy inference system, SSA is exploited to carry out the parametric optimization of the fuzzy model as well as to realize its structural optimization. IG realized with the aid of C-Means clustering helps determine the initial values of the apex parameters of the membership function of fuzzy model. The overall hybrid identification of fuzzy inference systems comes in the form of two optimization mechanisms: structure identification (such as the number of input variables to be used, a specific subset of input variables, the number of membership functions, and polyno.mial type) and parameter identification (viz. the apexes of membership function). The structure identification is developed by SSA and C-Means while the parameter estimation is realized via SSA and a standard least square method. The evaluation of the performance of the proposed model was carried out by using four representative numerical examples such as No.n-linear function, gas furnace, NO.x emission process data, and Mackey-Glass time series. A comparative study of SSA and PSO demonstrates that SSA leads to improved performance both in terms of the quality of the model and the computing time required. The proposed model is also contrasted with the quality of some "conventional" fuzzy models already encountered in the literature.

With the development of the NB-IoT (Narrow band Internet of Things) and smart cities, coupled with the emergence of smart smoke sensors, new requirements and issues have been introduced to study on the deployment of sensors in large spaces. Previous research mainly focuses on the optimization of wireless sensors in some monitoring environments, including three-dimensional terrain or underwater space. There are relatively few studies on the optimization deployment problem of smart smoke sensors, and leaving large spaces with obstacles such as libraries out of consideration. This paper mainly studies the deployment issue of smart smoke sensors in large spaces by considering the fire probability of fire areas and the obstacles in a monitoring area. To cope with the problems of coverage blind areas and coverage redundancy when sensors are deployed randomly in large spaces, we proposed an optimized deployment strategy of smart smoke sensors based on the PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) algorithm. The deployment problem is transformed into a multi-objective optimization problem with many constraints of fire probability and barriers, while minimizing the deployment cost and maximizing the coverage accuracy. In this regard, we describe the structure model in large space and a coverage model firstly, then a mathematical model containing two objective functions is established. Finally, a deployment strategy based on PSO algorithm is designed, and the performance of the deployment strategy is verified by a number of simulation experiments. The obtained experimental and numerical results demonstrates that our proposed strategy can obtain better performance than uniform deployment strategies in terms of all the objectives concerned, further demonstrates the effectiveness of our strategy. Additionally, the strategy we proposed also provides theoretical guidance and a practical basis for fire emergency management and other departments to better deploy smart smoke sensors in a large space.

Recently, research on traffic signal control using artificial intelligence algorithms has been receiving attention, and many traffic signal control models are being studied. However, most studies either focused on independent intersections or are theoretical studies that calculate signal cycle length according to changes in traffic volume. Therefore, this study was conducted on a signalized intersection - roundabout in Gajwa-ro. The Particle Swarm Optimization - Bacterial Foraging Optimization (PSO-BFO) algorithm was proposed, which is developed from the GA and PSO algorithms for minimizing congestion at two intersections. As a result, optimum cycle length was determined to be 158 seconds. The Verkehr In Stadten - SIMulationsmodell (VISSIM) results showed that there was 3.4% increased capacity, 8.2% reduced delay and 8.3% reduced number of stops at the Gajwa-ro signalized intersection. Additionally, at the roundabout, a 9.2% increase in capacity, a 7.1% reduction in delay, and a 27.2% decrease in the number of stops was observed.

In recent years, the Television White Space (TVWS) has attracted the interest of many researchers due to its propagation characteristics obtainable between 470MHz and 790MHz spectrum bands. The plenty of unused channels in the TV spectrum allows the secondary users (SUs) to use the channels for broadband services especially in rural areas. However, when the number of SUs increases in the TVWS wireless network the aggregate interference also increases. Aggregate interferences are the combined harmful interferences that can include both co-channel and adjacent interferences. The aggregate interference on the side of Primary Users (PUs) has been extensively scrutinized. Therefore, resource allocation (power and spectrum) is crucial when designing the TVWS network to avoid interferences from Secondary Users (SUs) to PUs and among SUs themselves. This paper proposes a model to improve the resource allocation for reducing the aggregate interface among SUs for broadband services in rural areas. The proposed model uses joint power and spectrum hybrid Firefly algorithm (FA), Genetic algorithm (GA), and Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm (PSO) which is considered the Co-channel interference (CCI) and Adjacent Channel Interference (ACI). The algorithm is integrated with the admission control algorithm so that; there is a possibility to remove some of the SUs in the TVWS network whenever the SINR threshold for SUs and PU are not met. We considered the infeasible system whereby all SUs and PU may not be supported simultaneously. Therefore, we proposed a joint spectrum and power allocation with an admission control algorithm whose better complexity and performance than the ones which have been proposed in the existing algorithms in the literature. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared using the metrics such as sum throughput, PU SINR, algorithm running time and SU SINR less than threshold and the results show that the PSOFAGA with ELGR admission control algorithm has best performance compared to GA, PSO, FA, and FAGAPSO algorithms.

In this study, we introduce design methodology to develop a guidance for issuing heavy rainfall warning by using both RBFNNs(Radial basis function neural networks) and SVR(Support vector regression) model, and then carry out the comparative studies between two pattern classifiers. Individual classifiers are designed as architecture realized with the aid of optimization and pre-processing algorithm. Because the predictive performance of the existing heavy rainfall forecast system is commonly affected from diverse processing techniques of meteorological data, under-sampling method as the pre-processing method of input data is used, and also data discretization and feature extraction method for SVR and FCM clustering and PSO method for RBFNNs are exploited respectively. The observed data, AWS(Automatic weather wtation), supplied from KMA(korea meteorological administration), is used for training and testing of the proposed classifiers. The proposed classifiers offer the related information to issue a heavy rain warning in advance before 1 to 3 hours by using the selected meteorological data and the cumulated precipitation amount accumulated for 1 to 12 hours from AWS data. For performance evaluation of each classifier, ETS(Equitable Threat Score) method is used as standard verification method for predictive ability. Through the comparative studies of two classifiers, neuro-fuzzy method is effectively used for improved performance and to show stable predictive result of guidance to issue heavy rainfall warning.

The current study is dedicated to design a novel coordinated controller to effectively increase power system rotor angle stability. In doing so, the coordinated design of an AVR (automatic voltage regulator), PSS2B, and TCSC (thyristor controlled series capacitor)-based POD (power oscillation damping) controller is proposed. Although the recently employed coordination between a CPSS (conventional power system stabilizer) and a TCSC-based POD controller has been shown to improve power system damping characteristics, neglecting the negative impact of existing high-gain AVR on the damping torque by considering its parameters as given values, may reduce the effectiveness of a CPSS-POD controller. Thus, using a technologically viable stabilizer such as PSS2B rather than the CPSS in a coordinated scheme with an AVR and POD controller can constitute a well-established design with a structure that as a high potential to significantly improve the rotor angle stability. The design procedure is formulated as an optimization problem in which the ITSE (integral of time multiplied squared error) performance index as an objective function is minimized by employing an IPSO (improved particle swarm optimization) algorithm to tune adjustable parameters. The robustness of the coordinated designs is guaranteed by concurrently considering some operating conditions in the optimization process. To evaluate the performance of the proposed controllers, eigenvalue analysis and time domain simulations were performed for different operating points and perturbations simulated on 2A4M (two-area four-machine) power systems in MATLAB/Simulink. The results reveal that surpassing improvement in damping of oscillations is achieved in comparison with the CPSS-TCSC coordination.

In the paper, a hybrid technique is proposed for detecting the location and capacity of distributed generation (DG) sources like wind and photovoltaic (PV) in power system. The novelty of the proposed method is the combined performance of both the Biography Based Optimization (BBO) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) techniques. The mentioned techniques are the optimization techniques, which are used for optimizing the optimum location and capacity of the DG sources for radial distribution network. Initially, the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is applied to obtain the available capacity of DG sources like wind and PV for 24 hours. The BBO algorithm requires radial distribution network voltage, real and power loss for determining the optimum location and capacity of the DG. Here, the BBO input parameters are classified into sub parameters and allowed as the PSO algorithm optimization process. The PSO synthesis the problem and develops the sub solution with the help of sub parameters. The BBO migration and mutation process is applied for the sub solution of PSO for identifying the optimum location and capacity of DG. For the analysis of the proposed method, the test case is considered. The IEEE standard bench mark 33 bus system is utilized for analyzing the effectiveness of the proposed method. Then the proposed technique is implemented in the MATLAB/simulink platform and the effectiveness is analyzed by comparing it with the BBO and PSO techniques. The comparison results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed approach and confirm its potential to solve the problem.

In this study, the design methodology of pattern classification is introduced for avoiding faults through partial discharge occurring in the power facilities and local sites. In order to classify some partial discharge types according to the characteristics of each feature, the model is constructed by using the Radial Basis Function Neural Networks(RBFNNs) and Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO). In the input layer of the RBFNNs, the feature vector is searched and the dimension is reduced through Principal Component Analysis(PCA) and PSO. In the hidden layer, the fuzzy coefficients of the fuzzy clustering method(FCM) are tuned using PSO. Raw datasets for partial discharge are obtained through the Motor Insulation Monitoring System(MIMS) instrument using an Epoxy Mica Coupling(EMC) sensor. The preprocessed datasets for partial discharge are acquired through the Phase Resolved Partial Discharge Analysis(PRPDA) preprocessing algorithm to obtain partial discharge types such as void, corona, surface, and slot discharges. Also, when the amplitude size is considered as two types of both the maximum value and the average value in the process for extracting the preprocessed datasets, two different kinds of feature datasets are produced. In this study, the classification ratio between the proposed RBFNNs model and other classifiers is shown by using the two different kinds of feature datasets, and also we demonstrate the proposed model shows superiority from the viewpoint of classification performance.

The existence of damages in structures causes changes in the physical properties by reducing the modal parameters. In this paper, we develop a two-stages approach based on normalized Modal Strain Energy Damage Indicator (nMSEDI) for quick applications to predict the location of damage. A two-dimensional IsoGeometric Analysis (2D-IGA), Machine Learning Algorithm (MLA) and optimization techniques are combined to create a new tool. In the first stage, we introduce a modified damage identification technique based on frequencies using nMSEDI to locate the potential of damaged elements. In the second stage, after eliminating the healthy elements, the damage index values from nMSEDI are considered as input in the damage quantification algorithm. The hybrid of Teaching-Learning-Based Optimization (TLBO) with Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) are used along with nMSEDI. The objective of TLBO is to estimate the parameters of PSO-ANN to find a good training based on actual damage and estimated damage. The IGA model is updated using experimental results based on stiffness and mass matrix using the difference between calculated and measured frequencies as objective function. The feasibility and efficiency of nMSEDI-PSO-ANN after finding the best parameters by TLBO are demonstrated through the comparison with nMSEDI-IGA for different scenarios. The result of the analyses indicates that the proposed approach can be used to determine correctly the severity of damage in beam structures.
