  • Aluminum, which is a metal fuel contained in the composite solid propellant, is not ignited and burned on the combustion surface by the oxide film, and it partially melts and coalesces with surrounding aluminum particles. For the evaluation and design of the propellant performance, modeling was performed to predict the size and distribution of agglomerated particles, and the size and distribution of agglomerates were compared and verified through experiment. The predicted values showed the tendency to decrease with pressure as in the experiment, but the error increased as the pressure increased. The agglomerated particle distribution graph showed a difference in the volume fraction although the diameter at the peak was the same.

  • Acid rain of soils has a significant impact on mechanical properties. An X-ray diffraction test, scanning electron microscope (SEM) test, laser particle size analysis test, and triaxial unconsolidated undrained (UU) test were carried out in red clay soils with different compaction degrees under the effect of different concentrations of acid. The experiments demonstrated that: the dissolution effect of acid rain on colluvium weakened with the increase in the compacting degree under the condition of certain pH values, i.e., the damage to the structure of red clay soil was relatively light, where the number of newly increased pores in the soil decreased and the agglomeration of soil particles increased; for the same compacting degree, the structural gap decreased, and the agglomeration increased with the increase in the pH value (acidity decreases) of the acid rain; the dissolution rate of Si, Al, Fe, and other elemental minerals and cement in red clay soil was found to be higher under the effect of acid rain, in turn destroying the original structure of the soil body and producing a large number of pores. This is macroscopically expressed as the decrease of the soil cohesion and internal friction angle, thereby reducing the shear strength of the soil body.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the dispersion degree of particles using a nanoindentation test for titanium oxide nanoparticles/epoxy resin nanocomposites. Thus, the effects of the particle size and weight fraction, dispersion agent, and position of the sample on the modulus and degree of particle dispersion in the nanocomposites were investigated. As a result, the dispersion degree of large particles was found to be better than that of smaller particles in composites. It could be found that the aggregation or agglomeration of small particles with large surface energy occurred more easily in nanocomposites because of the large specific surface area. The moduli of the upper side of the film-shaped sample obtained from a nanoindentation test were low scattering, while the values for the bottom side were high scattering. Thus, the dispersion situation of the nanoparticles on the upper side of film-shaped samples could be considered to be better than that for the bottom side. This could be concluded due to the non-uniform nanoparticle dispersion in the same sample. The modulus obtained from nanoindentation test increased slightly with the content of nanoparticles and increased with the indented depth for the same sample. The latter is presumably due to the increase in the accumulated particles facing the indenter with the indented depth. The nanoindentation test was found to be a useful method to evaluate the dispersion status of nanoparticles in nanocomposites.

  • Nickel ultrafine powder have been synthesized by chemical reduction of aqueous $NiSO_4$ with hydrazine at various reaction conditions. The effect of reaction conditions such as the amount of surfactant and reductor, and reaction temperature on the particle size and shape was investigated by the mean of XRD, SEM and SEM-PSA. Experiments showed that the ratio of $N_{2}H_4/Ni$ and the reaction temperature were affected on the particle size of the nickel powder. The average particle size of synthesized nickel powder increased with increasing reaction temperature regardless of the ratio of $N_{2}H_4/Ni$. Also the surfactant could influence the size and agglomeration of ultrafine powder with the reaction temperature.

  • An experimental investigation was conducted to explore the effects of air mass flux on the combustion efficiency and particle size distributions in a solid fuel ramjet using a fuel grain highly loaded with boron carbide. Particle distributions were measured at the grain exit and at the nozz1e entrance using a Malvern 2600 HSD. Combustion efficiency increased with decreasing air mass flux. In general, the particle distribution was trimodal or quadrimodal with node peaks at approximately 4, 15, and 25$\mu\textrm{m}$ and possibly one at less than 2$\mu\textrm{m}$. The larger particles were the result of surface agglomeration, primarily within the recirculation region. Higher inlet air temperature produced higher combustion efficiencies, apparently the result of enhanced combustion of the larger boron carbide particles that burn in a diffusion controlled regime.

  • Ultrafine particles have been widely used in many high technology industrial areas. The spherical nonagglomerated and uniform nanometer-size SiO$_2$particles are synthesized by the direct injection of TEOS(Tetraethyorthosilicate) using electro-hydrodynamic spraying method. Electro-hydrodynamic spraying can generate submicron-size TEOS droplets having high electric charges by applying a high electric field between the liquid injection nozzle and the reaction tube. These TEOS droplets are evaporated, and thermally decomposed or oxidized to produce nanometresized SiO$_2$particles in the reaction tube. Spherical, nonagglomerated and ultrafine particles are generated in various conditions and examined by using SEM and SMPS. As the total gas flow rate in the furnace changes from 1.5 lpm, the mean diameter of SiO$_2$particle decreases from 120 nm to 68 nm. The synthesized particle charging fractions are also investigated.

  • Aluminum nitride (AlN) powder specimens are treated by high-energy bead milling and then sintered at various temperatures. Depending on the solvent and milling time, the oxygen content in the AlN powder varies significantly. When isopropyl alcohol is used, the oxygen content increases with the milling time. In contrast, hexane is very effective at suppressing the oxygen content increase in the AlN powder, although severe particle sedimentation after the milling process is observed in the AlN slurry. With an increase in the milling time, the primary particle size remains nearly constant, but the particle agglomeration is reduced. After spark plasma sintering at $1400^{\circ}C$, the second crystalline phase changes to compounds containing more $Al_2O_3$ when the AlN raw material with an increased milling time is used. When the sintering temperature is decreased from $1750^{\circ}C$ to $1400^{\circ}C$, the DC resistivity increases by approximately two orders of magnitude, which implies that controlling the sintering temperature is a very effective way to improve the DC resistivity of AlN ceramics.

  • This Study was performed to get the suitable oil dispersion agent by assessment of color strength of organic pigment in non-aqueous systems. Organic pigment is used as a color expression material with other body pigments in the make-up products. But occasionally aggregation or agglomeration occurs for the lack of affinity with medium, This function is the cause of disturbing homogeneous dispersion, and then bring about an instability of products. Our study, research of dispersion mechanism between the pigment and oil phase, has been executed to solve this problem, and find a oil dispersion agent having optimum dispersion condition. Generally dispersion is related to between the solid-liquid mutual properties and electrical phenomena associated with solid-liquid interface. This factor is determined to input energy, milling time, optical properties, particle size, rheological properties, etc. Ideal dispersion state is told that coloring primary solid particle is homogeneously dispersed in medium. Good dispersed colorants are strongly and clearly appeared. We are already known that the particle size of organic pigment, chemical properties and viscosity of medium, refractive index. Consequently We determine the affinity of medium and organic pigment by measuring of color strength in the same mechanical condition. UV-VISIBLE RECORDING SPECTRO PHOTOMETER is used for measuring apparatus. We can decided the dispersion level of oil dispersion agent by measuring absorbance of color strength in the visible range that diluted medium for colloid colorant particles.

  • The Sericite Powder W3S Comminuted in 1 M $KNO_3$solution for 0.5, 1, 2, 5 and 10 h, compared with the addition of distilled water. It has been found that the mean diameter of the ground particles decreases until the comminuting for 1 h, however, increases after 1 h due to the agglomeration between fine particles. The sericite powder comminuted with 1 M $KNO_3$solution for 1 h shows the mean particle size of $1.9\mu$m, and it also shows the mean particle size of 2.4 $\mu$m in case of comminution in distilled water for 1 h.

  • A stable suspension with a colloidal $ZrO_2$ particle was prepared by an adsorption of PV A and investigated to the effects of PV A on the dispersion and particle growth within suspension. With a suspension added the optimum concentration of PYA (about 500 ppm in this study), it was shown the property of a stable sol due to the formation of adsorbed PV A layer on surface and the reduction of an agglomeration among the particles. Most of nucleation in colloidal $ZrO_2$ were occured in the early stage of hydrolysis reaction and the plate-like monoclinic $ZrO_2$ particle were grown with an aging time. The rate of particle growth and yield for a reaction were decreased with an addition of PV A. The compact prepared from well- dispersed suspension by an addition of PV A was contained the homogeneous particle arrangement and pore distribution.
